Full of Bologna? Gingrich Camp Says Claims About Offering ‘Friends’ as Witnesses to ABC Were False

It‘s the presidential debate question that America just can’t stop talking about. Regardless of where one stands on the appropriateness of CNN’s John King asking GOP candidate Newt Gingrich about his ex-wife’s “open marriage” claims at last week’s Southern debate, a new admission from the Gingrich campaign is noteworthy.
Now, following the candidate‘s insistance that ABC ignored individuals the campaign offered up to counter his ex’s story, the campaign is conceding that Gingrich’s claims — both in the original debate and during a follow-up interview — were, well, bologna.
(Related: More ‘Bologna!’: Gingrich Faces Off Again With CNN’s John King Over Debate Question)
On Tuesday, Gingrich and King faced off on CNN to discuss their uncomfortable debate exchange. As we reported, Gingrich, again, insisted that his campaign had offered up character witnesses who were willing to refute his ex-wife’s story, but that ABC News (the network that aired the bombshell interview with Marianne Gingrich) refused to interview them. When King said that ABC claims they would have talked to these people, but that the campaign never brought them forward, Gingrich claimed this simply wasn’t true. “Oh, that is just plain bologna!,” he responded.
But on Wednesday, the Gingrich campaign finally conceded that the claims that they brought sympathetic pro-Gingrich interview subjects to ABC‘s attention and that the network declined to interview them simply aren’t true — at least not in the framework through which the claims were originally presented.
During the debate, Gingrich said, “Every personal friend I have who knew us in that period says the story was false. We offered several of them to ABC to prove it was false.” But the campaign now says that no friends were offered up.
“Tonight, after persistent questioning by our staff, the Gingrich campaign concedes now Speaker Gingrich was wrong — both in his debate answer, and in our interview yesterday,” King reported. “Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond says the only people the Gingrich campaign offered to ABC were his two daughters from his first marriage.”
Watch King deliver this news, below:
POLITICO calls this admission, “An important victory for John King in his ongoing effort to justify last Thursday’s confrontation.”

Romney is not the establishment. Romney never worked in Washington unlike Newt Gingrich who spent his life in Washington making money from big government.
Romney has lots of support from Republicans in Congress because the members of Congress know Newt Gingrich and they know how corrupt, dishonest and how erratic Gingrich‘s leadership was in the 90’s. They also know that Gingrich is no conservative. To me this is very telling when you have strong conservatives like Rep. Peter King and Senator Conrad who have openly denounced Newt Gingrich and strongly stated that they would not endorse Gingrich……you can’t just ignore these facts!

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 1:44pmUNDELIEVABLE, Michael Reagan just verified on FOX interview that there are two Republicans as frontrunners right now. One is a Reagan Conservative and the other is a Rockerfeller Republican. Newt is fir first, Mitt is the latter. As Michael says, there were things done back then that people didn’t agree with what Reagan was doing, but after the fact, saw it was right.
Give me Newt. Even if he is a big government spender, it would pale compared to what we have right now, and there is even a greater chance that it will not be that way at all. I truly believe Newt when he says he is running because he doesn’t want his grandchildren to grow up in a country that is being changed to a European style government. As arrogant as Newt is, his legacy has to be one of the greatest presidents in history, not the president that destroyed the country. I don’t think Mitt cares quite that much, he would be more like GHWB or Ford, just not a lot of fire in his belly to reverse the past three years.

They are spiritual, probably more than most other so-called religious

much as any Christian church ever has. They serve their religion
without pay in every conceivable capacity. Not one of their leaders,
teachers, counselors, Bishops or music directors receive one dime for
the hours of labour they put in.
The Mormons have a non-paid ministry – a fact that is not generally
known. I have heard many times from the pulpits of others how evil and

What exactly would you say the President has done that has put us on this path. Newt’s food stamp President line is a similarly silly statement. More people are on food stamps as a result of Bush’s recession and the banking crisis. The annual deficits are equal to the run rate that Bush left. The main issue with the economy is the decline in real wages that began in the mid 1980′s. But understanding that requires going beyond the sound bites, slogans and ideology based thinking. This has been an effective debate tactic, but it leaves him un-vetted as a candidate–much like Obama on questions surrounding his radical background and associations.

Then there was Bill Clinton and his escapades. They were screaming right wing conspiracy. America is done with this kind of crap. It takes a moral nation (voters and candidates) before it takes a slick talking debater to be the representative of our country.

There is a chance that if Newt gets to be the nominee, Obama may skip the debates. There is no law that states a president must debate his competitor. Presidents have done it before. These people that are crazy for Newt remind me of the crazies in 2008 that supported Obama. It is the same. He compares himself to Reagan, he is no Reagan. Reagan had a very low key persona, he could govern so effectively and at the same time present such a kindness that shown through his person. Posted on January 26, 2012 at 4:05pmI have not been critical of Newt Gingrich, but it is now time to take a stand before it is too late. If Gingrich is the nominee it will have an adverse impact on Republican candidates running for county, state and federal offices. Hardly anyone who served with Newt in Congress has endorsed him and that fact speaks for itself. He was a one-man-band who rarely took advice. It was his way or the highway.
Gingrich served as speaker from 1995 to 1999 and had trouble within his own party. Already in 1997 a number of House members wanted to throw him out as speaker. But he hung on until after the 1998 elections when the writing was on the wall. His mounting ethics problems caused him to resign in early 1999. I know whereof I speak as I helped establish a line of credit of $150,000 to help Newt pay off the fine for his ethics violations. In the end, he paid the fine with money from other sources.
Gingrich had a new idea every minute and most of them were off the wall. He loved picking a fight with Bill Clinton because he knew this would get the attention of the press. This and a myriad of other specifics helped to topple Gingrich in 1998.
In my opinion if we want to avoid an Obama landslide in November, Republicans should nominate Governor Romney as our standard bearer. He has the requisite experience in the public and private sectors. He would be a president we could have confidence in.
Bob Dole

Why all these politicians are jumping on with Romney is they think he is going to win and want to be on the same side. A vote for Romney would be more of the same. I lived and voted in the 90s and the press brutely attacked Newt and the Republicans. These Beck/Romney/Blaze/Bain/Clear blogs are attacking Newt like back in the 90s. Twisting and turning and lying and half truths.
No one can predict what is going to happen in the fall. A vote for Romney would be a Bush 3 candidate. Look at his record as Gov. No energy policy so more endless wars. Gov. health care like the perscription drug care. Fanny and Freddie happened under Bush’s term.
One thing about Newt the terrorist wouldn’t know what he was thinking. Unlike Mr. Nicely.

Paul because he has run an amazing race so far and he has kept on message even when the large majority of the GOP scoffs at his foreign policy. He sees the national debt as the number one threat to this country’s security and he is passionate about reducing this debt for future generations.
Romney came out on top because he is a private sector and an economics guy and he has a lengthy track record of reducing substantial deficits in business,in government and as CEO of the Olympics.
Romney’s resume is incredible, graduated number one from conservative Brigham Young in economics, graduated near the top from liberal Harvard with a law degree and an MBA.
Romney gave his father’s inheritance to charity and Romney then goes on to make millions in the private sector investing in failing companies and start-ups. He then goes on to takeover the Olympics for no salary, and turns them around from being in debt 400 million to a 100 million profit. Romney donates 1 million to the Olympics. Romney then goes on to be governor of MA where he takes a 3 billion deficit and turns it into a 1 billion rainy day fund.

Posted on January 26, 2012 at 8:46amAMEN Gonzo….I very much agree with this. Why is it Zero wasn’t scrutinized over every word and association he had like the republican candidates are? MSM gave him a pass, and the only one even questioning was Fox News and Glenn Beck. As soon as they did question him it became a war with Fox News by the Democrats.
