‘Furious’ TSA Screeners Complain About Smelly Passengers

The media have lent a sympathetic ear to the tribulations of air passengers facing invasive screenings at the nation’s airports, but how do TSA employees feel about their new job responsibilities? Furious TSA Screeners Complain About Smelly Passengers

According to the Daily Mail, “furious” security staff “hate” dealing with “obese passengers and people with personal hygiene issues.”

One travel blog reached out to TSA employees and received 17 testimonials from disgruntled employees upset over the policy put in place last month. Not surprisingly, one of the most detested parts of their job is carrying out individual body searches, one even claiming the experience was worse for him than for the passenger.

“It is not comfortable to come to work knowing full well that my hands will be feeling another man’s private parts, their butt, their inner thigh,” one told the BoardingArea blog.  “Even worse is having to try and feel inside the flab rolls of obese passengers and we seem to get a lot of obese passengers!”

Another said he had a huge problem dealing with a “large number of passengers… daily that have a problem understanding what personal hygiene is.”

In addition, the TSA staffers said they were uncomfortable with passengers’ negative responses to the policy.  Many complained that air travelers are unloading their angry backlashes on the screeners who say they’re just following orders and do their jobs.

“Being a TSO [Transportation Security Officer] means often being verbally abused, you let the comments roll off and check the next person,” one said.

“However, when a woman refuses the scanner then comes to me and tells me that she feels like I am molesting her, that is beyond verbal abuse.  I asked the woman if she thought I like touching other women all day and she told me that I probably did or I wouldn’t be with the TSA.  I just want to tell these people that s, but I cannot because I am a professional.”

The American Federation of Government Employees, the union representing the officers, says the agency must take action before the Thanksgiving rush “to ensure that TSOs are not being left to fend for themselves.”

The new screenings are creating bottlenecks at many security checkpoints and holiday travelers should expect delays as up to an estimated two million people per day are expected to fly this week for Thanksgiving.

Here in Atlanta today one of your rank kidnapped and raped a young woman..so, NO I don’t feel sorry for you! What’s wrong with you guys. The suggestions above don’t solve the problem. I would be more concerned with the Labor unions getting imbedded in the TSA.

    I am not a TSA TSO, I maintain the equipment. Your anger should be directed at the ones above the “Blue Shirts”. They are just doing what they are told to make YOUR FLIGHT as safe as possible. I don’t fly much, don’t have a problem with security required to keep me safe. If I was flying and you got abusive to adhering to the security measures, I wouldn’t just stand by. The STO’s may not be able to say anything to you but I sure as hell can. You have a lot of choices for travel, flying is only one of them. Don’t like the air mode of security, target those making the rediculous decisions, not hte front line workers who are just like you and me.

And please tell us how the TSA has made our flying safer. How many terrorists has the TSA stopped from boarding? How many have they caught?

      When you start talking “profiling” you might get people to listen to you. TSA front-line workers are reaping what they have sown. They don’t like the job, go work somewhere else.

      Massey-50 – You are of course correct. I’ve felt since the beginning of this fiasco, the average TSA agent must be horrified. I can’t imagine having to go to work and do what this administration is asking them to do. I think a lot of people realize this but most are extremely frustrated.

      When you see a nun, a child, and elderly man with bladder cancer being singled out, people say what in the hell is the TSA thinking. None of those people are remotely a danger and it’s so obvious that most people think this is juvenile or worse moronic. If we are attacked again, you can blame the idiots that didn’t profile people because of political correctness. Political correctness has made us impotent. People are fed up with incompetence in government, and unfortunately the blue shirts are at the front line. So they get to hear about it. Kind of like the waitress that gets yelled at because of the kitchen.

The German Jews, and other Germans were once prosperous, then their economy started to decline. Hitler siezed power in increments, and that is just what is happening here. First a little, then a little more. The progression: Nudge, nudge, push, shove, shoot. It’s not as far fetched as you think, and it is BECAUSE we have respect for those who lost their lives in the camps that we swear never to let it happen anywhere…especially here, in America.

      @ Burnthills,

      I sincerely hope that when all this is said and done Obama will be tried for treason and executed. I say this in all seriousness. No matter who pulls his strings he has opened this country up to unprecedented danger and disaster from all sides. Almost two years ago I started watching Beck, and laughing at his conspiracy theories. Just over a year ago I started paying attention to what he was saying…Now I wonder how much there is that he has still not uncovered! This whole TSA thing? Yeah…There is MUCH more to it than meets the eye. Slight of hand? Watch TSA while the unions close in? Try and collapse the system just a little more? Desensitize us just a little more to complete government control? I don’t know, but I do know this thing is huge and it is going to explode shortly. I know many in denial. I moved past my anger. I am still depressed, but I have accepted that our president wants to destroy the America I have always known. I also know that if we survive Obama then Romney is no solution. We will need a hard right, tea party, fiscal conservative to bring us back from this…

      O’Reilly and others may still be in denial, they have never encountered this mindset in a position of power. O’Reilly is a patriot, he cannot grasp that Obama would purposely hurt this country. I have accepted that fact. Hang on, it is going to get very bumpy very soon!

      And our point is that “just following orders” as an excuse was put to bed once and for all in the 1947 Nuremburg trials.

      If you‘re ordered to blatantly violate somebody’s rights, dignity and very freedom, if you’re an honest person, you refuse and resign. If you comply with the order, you are a tyrant and a monster. Following orders. Geesh.

      It’s not the fault of the TSA. Just like the rest of us, when their boss tells them they must do something, they do it – or risk becoming unemployed. The complaints that are being heard are not from TSA agents, but from ‘union’ people who want nothing more than to unionize TSA.
      So, before getting thoroughly disgusted with a person who is simply doing their job, thank them for NOT being part of the union thuggery. Write and demand that your Congress and Senate representatives go through the same process, but don’t make a case for a union take-over. Should that happen, the American public will still fly, but not from America…and those 65,000+ TSA employees will be without jobs – or union support – because they are being used. Be smart. Be kind to your TSA agent…they are as miserable as you are.

      @redirishman

      If they’re so put out, they can quit their job and get a line of employment that doesn’t require them to perpetrate sexual assault on people, and taking photos of children naked. I don’t buy the “but they’re just doing their job” argument for these animals. No. Were the guys who herded jews into the ovens “just doing their jobs”? No. One has to be a sadist and control freak to even consider this kind of employment, and I mean even before the crotch grabbing. To hell with these people.

      @redirishman YES!

      @Ghostofjefferson I didn’t know there were jobs! If there are so many jobs that would be available for them, why is everyone complaining about unemployment?

      I’d laugh but I know it is not the fault of the general staff employed by TSA.

      I belive all of this may not have been a secert plan…but will make folks in ther TSA that never would have considered being in a union, (e.g AFL-CIO) more apt to join because of this “us vs. them” result of this stupid old Counter Terroist on the Objective technique that every American is being forced to endure if they opt out of the scanner. This technique was discarded by the CT units in the military as “ too time consuming for the net result”. It is much easier to profile and ask specific questions of suspected terorists or thei teammates and then give them a detailed search. This policy will have unintended consequences and a fully unionized “federal police force” is one of them

      I thought the ‘upper echelons’ said pat searches are not as intrusive as the public perceives, that they don’t grab genetalia?

      “It is not comfortable to come to work knowing full well that my hands will be feeling another man’s private parts, their butt, their inner thigh,” one told the BoardingArea blog. “Even worse is having to try and feel inside the flab rolls of obese passengers and we seem to get a lot of obese passengers!”

      Hmmmmmm?????

      I believe so too , specially since Hussain couldn’t get his guy who wanted to unionize TSA installed as its chief.
      Now , not only millions in kickbacks flow in when the nudy scanners are sold ,
      but also
      unions get rich with infusion of even more cash and a fresh batch of thugs.
      Or as any parasitic DC dweller would say :
      WIN WIN

      I agree, dogs, dogs, dogs. Dogs can be trained to detect almost any substance that can be hidden on the body and they don’t get thier ya yas doing it. Psychological profiling too while we’re at it, please.

      Now I can finally eliminate the “opt-out” option and make scans mandatory for everybody. When enough of are humiliated after their naked pics hit the internet, they’ll just stay home and we can put some more of these airlines out of business once and for all. My plan is working brilliantly.

      EXACTLY! I trust a DOG more than ANY agent of the government. How much do these people care? It’s OK though, they can care even less once they’re unionized. Poor babies, havin’ to touch icky gross people all day : ( Richard Trumpka will save you! He will make sure you don‘t have to do anything at all you don’t want, and then when you strike, YOU alone will be powerful enough to shut down the WORLD!! What did they just say about Europe? The unions control the very movement of the people in some places? Yeah, no thanks!
      ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Imagine if no one can go anywhere until they are screened, they will bring everything to a screeching halt. GIMME MY RIGHTS BACK! What a bunch of crybabies, if you don’t like touching fat or smelly people, QUIT! You won’t even have to look for another job for 2 years now.
      The TSA employees didn’t apply to the playboy mansion, so they’re stuck with everyday ordinary people. Pictures I have seen of these federal wannabe cops, doing the groping, don‘t comply with what I’d consider, a visual or physical pleasant experience either….so Touche’!!
      I see…so now it’s okay for them to be unprofessional and complain by insulting those they invade. I get that this is their job and they are following directives—however, it’s a known fact many of them are going well over the line and are being backed up for going over the line. Don’t like the smell? Get another job.
