Emotional Speeches, Standing Ovation for Gabby Giffords During House Resignation

Gabrielle Giffords Leaves Congress with Standing Ovation

(The Blaze/AP) — Rep. Gabrielle Giffords has resigned from the House with a standing ovation from her colleagues, more than a year after she was gravely wounded by a would-be assassin.

The Arizona congresswoman formally resigned after a series of tributes from her colleagues in both parties. She’s stepping down to focus on her recovery from a gunshot wound to the head.

As Giffords sat in the chamber’s front row, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle praised her dignity, grace and perseverance. Her mother, Gloria, and husband, retired Navy Capt. Mark Kelly, watched from the gallery. Giffords stood in the well of the House as her close friend, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, read her resignation letter. Other members of the Arizona delegation surrounded her. And Rep. Jeff Flake held her hand. An emotional Wasserman Schultz said Giffords would return one day.

Giffords announced on YouTube Sunday that she planned to step down. During the State of the Union Tuesday night, fellow Congressmen and Congresswomen chanted “Gabby, Gabby, Gabby,” and gave her a standing ovation when she entered the chamber.

Giffords’ last event in her district as a Congresswoman was to return to the site of her shooting to finish the greeting event with her constituents at a supermarket that was tragically halted one year ago.

To all you folk saying vile things about Congresswoman Giffords… imagine she was a soldier. Would you be moaning and whining about her ‘life time benefits” after being shot on duty? Would you label a soldier any of the names you called her? Would you say anything to her face? Would you call her husband “Uncle Fester”.
There are days I am so glad we have the freedom of speech and how that freedom works both ways.

Gabby has always known she would never be able to return to work. But the Democrats need to make sure their party keeps her seat. So they’ve put on this little dog and pony show with her and her husband, Uncle Fester, in order to gain sympathy and familiarize the voters with him. They even had him sitting next to Moochelle in her stunning $2,400 evening gown last night. Any day now they’ll announce Uncle Fester will run in her place. He’ll be going it for Gabby. Awwwwwwwwww . . . how sweet.

What an incredible, pathetic, evil thing you just posted. I hope that nothing bad ever happens to you.
FYI: Just so you know, she used to be a republican. Just because she was a democrat, doesn’t excuse the fact that she deserved to be shot and almost killed nor enable you to insult her.

How old are you, 18 with a mentality of 7? Try to grow up.

You’d better pray and ask for forgiveness.

I am ashamed to associate myself with some of the vile and insulting comments on this board. You disgrace the meaning of being an American. She may not hold you values or your political ideals, but she was serving her constituents as best as she could and was needlessly gunned down. For those of you who ridicule her on a personal level, you should be ashamed of yourselves and I hope karma proves to be a bitch in your life.

The Republican SENATE member “Kirk” who had a stroke is recovering NOW. While the LIBERALS APPROVED of a brain dead/half paralyzed Giffords staying in office but said Michelle Bachman’s migraines should bar her from being presidents..will SOON start SCREAMING for Kirk to step down so they can try to get that Senate Seat.

I think that was uncalled for. She may not hold conservative values but that doesn’t allow you to insult her. She was almost killed for doing her job as a representative. I don’t think that she deserved to be shot, do you?

I wish her the best and hope that she continues to get better. As my mother always said, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.”

Detroit paperboy wonders, “How much money will we steal from our grankids, to pay the pensions and benefits for just these two people for the next 35 years ???”

Good question. I’m not sure what benefits are available to elected officials when they get shot in the brain and survive, and frankly, I’d just as soon not learn what my insurance would pay if you know what I mean. You know, the same logic applies for soldiers. Just because they get maimed, wounded or shot in the head, why should our grandchildren be on the hook for that? It’s not their fault.

Let government workers pay out of their own pocket when somebody shoots a bullet in their brain.

Detroit paperboy, if you’re recommending that government employees pensions and medical insurance be eliminated, so that the country can reduce tax rates on billionaires, you won’t get a lot of support.

I think your position is to cut off SS, pensions and medical insurance to government workers and soldiers who get shot in the head so that the richest people in America can get tax breaks on Lear jets.

You really should take a good look inside and remember the phrase, “There but for the Grace of God go I.”

Again if the money aint there the money aint there, but leave it to a lefty, the first place you cut is injured soldiers, typical….. Lets start with do nothing beauracrats… Welfare crack heads…. Welfare to illegals…. SSI disability for drunks and drug addicts…. and since you have such disdain for millionaires and billionaires, try gettin a job from Homey, who cant even hold up his pants, good luck with that… And by the way , you could confiscate 100% of every billionares wealth , and it would’nt last this Criminal Federal Govt six weeks…. But we can just print it right???? And the billionairez would have all the money back in a year anyway, and your crackhead welfare buddies would be broke in a year….. Cuz poverty is a learned behavior of bad choices, and wealth is attracted to dynamic people willing to work ninety hours a week, but this is something leftys never comprehend so im prolly wastin time…..
