TRIPOLI, Libya (The Blaze/AP) – Disgraced Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi is remaining defiant until the end.
Gadhafi vowed Wednesday to fight on “until victory or martyrdom” and called on residents of the Libyan capital and loyal tribesmen across his North African nation to free Tripoli from the “devils and traitors” who have overrun it.
The broadcast came a day after hundreds of Libyan rebels stormed Gadhafi’s Bab al-Aziziya fortress-like compound in the capital but found no sign of the longtime leader. On Monday, the rebels entered Tripoli, pouring into the Mediterranean metropolis of some 2 million people in their thousands in a stunning breakthrough. They claim to control 80 percent of Tripoli.
Tuesday’s ransacking of Bab al-Aziziya, long the nexus of Gadhafi’s power, marked the effective collapse of his 42-year-old regime. But with Gadhafi and his powerful sons still unaccounted for – and gunbattles flaring across the nervous city – the fighters cannot declare victory.
In an address given from an unknown location and broadcast on the Al-Ouroba TV, Gadhafi asked: “Why are you letting them wreak havoc?” The Syria-based satellite station is owned by Iraqi dissident Mishaan Jibouri and has been supporting Gadhafi as well as Syria’s embattled leader Bashar Assad.
Sounding subdued and without his usually fiery rhetoric, Gadhafi said he would fight “the aggression with all strength until either victory or death.”
The channel earlier quoted the Libyan leader as saying he had left the Bab al-Aziziya compound in a “tactical move” after 64 NATO airstrikes reduced it to rubble.
Gadhafi’s chief government spokesman, Moussa Ibrahim, also managed to get word out in a phone interview with the same station, promising “we will be back to take Tripoli back.”
The 69-year-old Libya leader has routinely addressed his supporters from state Libyan television, but the rebels have taken the channel off the air on Tuesday.
Reuters reports on more of his remarks:
“All Libyans must be present in Tripoli, young men, tribal men and women must sweep through Tripoli and comb it for traitors,” the Libyan leader said. “I have been out a bit in Tripoli discreetly, without being seen by people, and … I did not feel that Tripoli was in danger,” he added.
So if Gadhafi escaped from his compound, how was he able to do it? The compound reportedly has a network of escape tunnels. Al-Jazeera reports they are even large enough to accommodate vehicles:

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 4:27pmThe US media now loves to call Qaddafi the “madman” of the middle east. What happened to Ahmadinejad (or after-dinner-jacket)? I thought he was the mad man of the middle east.? In reality Qaddafi is not that smart for even I can come up with ways to deal with these protesters. The fact that Tripoli is now taken over by the protesters offers a perfect military tactical plan: let as many protesters enter that city and once it reaches tipping point then bombard the city with mustard gas.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 3:52pmHe sounds just like the leftist Day of Ragers…”Why won’t you get out in the streets and fight for me and my power? Yes, you may be injured or killed, but you’d be doing it for ME!!” Seems G’Daffy has made his bed over decades…now it’s time to lie in it. You can‘t continue to treat people as if they’re nothing, then expect them to defend you when times get tough. That’s certainly a lesson our current administration could learn. It will be quite interesting to see what happens to that country and the leadership vacuum that is being created. Bet it won’t be pretty…

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 3:43pmHere is the funny part on this story, Obama pissed off a bunch of his friends because he went along with the invasion of this country. Obama has friends that were getting huge sums of money from the Libyan leader like Rev White, Louis Farrakhan, and yes Obama himself. Farrakhan made his public statement loud and clear to Obama stating his anger.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 1:56pmThe only reason we are in Libya is that Gadafi is not a threat to the United States. After the invasion of Iraq, he became quite docile even surrendering his WMDs. If Gadafi was a threat we would be trying to negotiate with him. That’s just the way Obama works. We are interfering in the internal affairs of a country where we have no national interest. This is a violation of international law. How many times did the left tell us this in Iraq, but not that it‘s their guy it’s OK. This is a civil war, we have no business being involved. How many times did the left tell us this in Iraq, but not that it‘s their guy it’s OK. Think about it. Gadafi is a bad guy, but he’s their bad guy.

Posted on August 24, 2011 at 12:18pm“NATO Gives Al-Qaeda Access to Deadly Weapons Stockpile” How’s THAT for a headline? According to this, our government is now in league with the enemy, and by their own legislation, they are supporting terrorists and what does the patriot act say about that? THEY CAN BE ARRESTED AS SUCH!
NATO is now our enemy through the same legislation? or at least the words of the Presidents.
Wonder what they will do about this? Probably NOTHING. We need these guys (terrorists) in order to continue to take away the liberties of the people of These United States.
