Anti-Gadhafi forces are celebrating today, claiming that a Libyan air force pilot killed one of Gadhafi’s sons during a kamikaze-style attack on a Libyan army barracks. The government, however, denies the son’s death.
According to reports, 27-year-old Khamis Gadhafi, who commands the army’s elite 32nd Brigade, died at a hospital after a pilot targeted the barracks instead of following an order to open fire on rebels. The suicide attack purportedly occurred at the Bab al-Azizia barracks in Tripoli.
YNetNews.com reports:
According to the reports, which were denied by the Libyan government, on Saturday a Libyan Air Force pilot deliberately crashed his jet into the Gaddafi family compound.
Khamis was rushed to the intensive care unit of a Tripoli hospital, where he reportedly died from his wounds a few hours later, the reports said.
The Algerian newspaper Chorouk, citing a report on the Libyan opposite website Al-Manara, claimed that the pilot was ordered to bomb rebels in the Ajdabiya region. However, the report said, the plane suddenly changed course and headed towards the Bab al-Azizia barracks in the Libyan capital.
Kahmis is the sixth son of Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi.

While I agree that this person was incredibly brave to do what he did, he couldn’t have gone to another country. After the first few pilots defected in the beginning, planes were only provided with very little fuel, barely enough to get to their objective and back. This is in no way meant to belittle what he did, mind you! This person was a true patriot and I salute him.

The Libyan people as a whole did not ask for our intervention. It was the rebels that asked for our intervention. We do not know what percentage of the citizens of Libya wanted us to take action. What if the majority of the population did not want the US to get involved?
The fact is that Obama himself railed against our intervention in other countries yet he is going into a country using military force. It is hypocritical. People have died by the thousands and do die in the thousands in many countries in which internal strife happen. Why go into this country? Why are we not helping in other countries? There have been and are examples of governments that were much harsher to their citizens what is different in Libya that we MUST get involved. Especially when we are stretched thin to begin with.

Arab media reported today that Khamis al-Qaddafi, a son of Libyan leader Muammar Qaddafi, died of a “suicide raid”of their own Air Force Tripoli.
Apparently one of the pilots received orders to attack targets in the city of Al Aydabiya, a rebel stronghold in the east, but once in the air turned his game into the military complex of Bab al Aziziya, where he was Khamis al Qaddafi and intentionally crashed.
The president’s son was taken to a medical center died of the severe burns he suffered.
The Bab al Aziziya base has also been the target of attacks by coalition forces since Saturday bombed the African country to enforce a United Nations resolution.

When hot heads prevail, things get dangerous all around. I pray every day that it doesn’t come to civil war, because that is what it would be. We all have to speak out for our beliefs. But Gandhi and Martin Luther King changed the world peacefully. I think we can as well. Be peacefully prepared, but that isn’t a suicide pact. I will use force to defend my family.
