Gallup: Conservatives Outnumber Liberals Nearly 2 to 1

Gallup Poll Shows Conservatives Outnumber LiberalsWhile many elements of society seem to surely be shifting ever-further to the left of the political spectrum, a recent Gallup poll released Thursday reveals otherwise. According to the survey, conservatives continue to make up the largest political segment in the country, outnumbering liberals nearly two-to-one.

The Gallup poll shows that 40 percent of Americans consider themselves conservative; 35 percent moderate; and 21 percent view themselves as liberal. The figures are no different than they were in 2010 and conservatives have outnumbered both moderates and liberals for three years running now.

Politico adds:

Conservatives began outstripping moderates in 2008, and the percentage of moderates has declined steadily over the last two decades, from 43 percent 1992 to 35 percent in 2011.

In fact, both self-identified conservatives and liberals have risen in number since the early 1990s, indicating a growing polarization in American politics.

While self-identified conservatives dominate the Republican Party, making up 71 percent, the Democratic Party is more split – 39 percent of Democrats view themselves as liberal, and 38 percent consider themselves moderates.

It might be worth noting that, per the poll’s findings, independents are mainly moderate (41 percent), but veer more towards conservatism (35 percent) than liberalism (20 percent).

The Gallup poll was conducted with 20,392 respondents and allows for a margin of error of plus or minus one.

      I’m with you. If the Republicans want to siphon votes away from the only Constitutional scholar on the panel, that’s on THEM. It’s not on ME.

      Screw that, I don’t take sides. I don’t root for team republican or team democrat, this isn’t football. I’m not gonna vote for corporate sponsored Romney just to get corporate sponsored Obama out of office. The government/media is not going to force me to vote between a douchebag and a turd sandwich.       Interesting how a vote for someone other than Romney considered a wasted vote. Seems to me we ought to try something other than a republican or democrat for a change. Might be able to get the country back in order.
      Get your heads out of the sand, the repubs and Dems are ruining this country and dividing us. Unless the people realize this it will only get worse, regardless of the party affiliation.       Lets take in some historical perspective here in order to deflect the notion that Repubs and Dems are equally to blame for the country’s current condition (on any level, local,state,federal what have you). It would be fair to say IMO at least that the 20th century (US politics in general) has been dominated by Democratic Progressive group think (with some notable Repoublican proponents from time to time actually able to shape policy on a large scale). By far though the Dems have been running things in large Urban centers for the last century with near impunity. The creep towards the left that now dominates once great urban centers stalwarts of “capitalism” (like NYC/New Orleans/San Fran, Chicago/St Louis/Atlanta/Detroit etc) as it was once practiced (free of real Gov’t meddling) have been transformed by these same political handlers (in concert with organized labor) to make a pact that has litteraly squeezed the life out of “rational” business practices in favor of “alien” social engineering utopian like collectivism. The Dems and the Progressives behind the scenes have masterfully played thier hands for the last 100 years using the cloak of a quasi “moral high ground” through manipulation of truth, the ballot box (coersion, propaganda, clever reworking of discredited systems, like Marxism) and repackaged that as uniquely American experience that has evovled beyond the scope of the founding father’s original vision.       The Dems are to blame for this mess, period. Repubs have been cleaning up the mess left behgind by Dems that have seriously mismanaged things…the two worst examples are post FDR and Psot Carter (with post Obama looking like the worst mess in US history) that the Repubs will have to deal with.
      It’s no longer possible for either party to turn thier back on the deficit…the can has reached the end of the road folks. We have a choice to make …Obama or the Republican candidate….a vote for a 3rd party is a vote for “truning your back on the country” when it needs you most. Forget about the small picture since it’;s the big picture that is in grave danger. I don;t like Romney that much but he’ll be a much better Prez than Obama, provided we deliver what is needed in the Senate and the House ( meaning super majorties for Repubs) come 2012. This sweep on Capital Hill is the only hope to drastically alter the Countries ruinous current tradjectory. Keep in mind that holding ones nose and voting for turining things around is far better than a protest vote that allows Obama and the Dems the time they need to finish the job.

I always thought I was a rebel voting Democrat, I thought I was voting for more liberty. Until I began to read, research, question, did I understand. That is my excuse, however I know, and what is the saying “knowing is half the battle”. If my vote causes Obama to win, I will not take the blame, I will hold the two party system accountable. Often times on here, I provide an alternative view point without attacking anyone or personally insulting a single person, and pretty much every single time, there is an overflow of unchecked rage and hate that come from commentors on here. Just because someone has a different opinion from you or thinks a different approach to problem could be effective, that doesn’t mean they are anti-Christian, un-American commies who want to bring about the end of the country. And as for stealing elections, when has a Dem EVER done that? Bush famously did that his first term (or do you not remember?)…
      as for organizing rides to the polls – how is that a bad thing? Making sure that more citizens of this country actively participate in the democratic process seems like something patriots would support.

      @UpstateNYConservative – “liberals hate religion” – really? what about all the liberal religious groups? Or is the fact that they are liberal automatically disqualify them from being considered “religious”?

Since minorities tend to vote Dem and such laws are being proposed by the right, one could make the argument that the RIGHT is trying to steal the election by preventing a significant portion of the population who votes for the other side from even voting.

      Did anyone catch the story earlier about all the empty seats at a WH Obama thing. I seen it on FOX (Megan Kelly) earlier and it was downplayed as not that big a deal. They showed a picture of all the empty seats, With Biden (it was a guess…looked like the back of his head) as only one of a few people sitting in the seats. according to the report most of the people that did not show up “just had something to do last minute, and couldn’t make it.”

      The liberal analyst said “It’s obviously not that big a deal, if the white house wanted to fill seats it could do that with no problem. It was obvious that they were more focused on getting the message out over the air waves.”

      Why was something so big made to look so small? This is a huge deal and it speaks volumes….But what i like most about what it says is….”Obama’s support is going really bad, and that if Ron Paul ran as 3rd party it would surely end up being a battle between the republican, and the 3rd party candidate……That picture they showed and the story MATCHES the reality I see everyday.

    These polls always strike me as being a little less than ideal barometers. One‘s opinion of one’s own political persuasion, I feel, is too subjective to be taken as a benchmark for the makeup of society. i.e, one person’s “conservative” is another’s “extreme right – wing nutjob”. It is interesting, however, and somewhat encouraging.
    Just my 2 cents
    P.S. I wonder what percentage of Americans consider themselves attractive…

      My point was, that though I consider myself conservative, there are people, I’m sure, that would consider me a “right wing nutjob”. Arguments with my “less conservative” friends would indicate that. I was also saying that those that would consider themselves conservative may find me “more” conservative.

      I‘d like to think we can right the ship but our constitution has been under assault for over a century by progressives and they’ve done tremendous damage to the republic.I do know it’ll take many years to correct it if the next election goes the right way,we’ll see.

    And yet somehow ( the voting dead?) Obama will be reelected , unless of course Romney wins the republican nod. If it’s the latter ( no connection to his faith) then the Globalists will allow us the “appearance” of change in the white house. But in truth, it shall be as it’s been for as long as I can recall.
    One other thought: perhaps the FEMA camps are for the leftists, because at 40% there are not eneough of them to hold the conservatives. Reasoning 800 camps known to exist with an estimated capacity of 15-35 million. 40% of Americas present census population equals about 83-97 million, but 21% is 40-45 million. If we jam them in like sardines before we deport them, they fit.

      huh…funny they don’t show up at the polls to vote…so, where are they?
      how do you light a fire under people that you don’t who they are, where they are, WHY they dont’ care to vote
      If they‘re working and can’t get off….get an absentee ballot to them!!!
      together we can do this…however, i think everyone is expecting miracles if a republican gets elected…
      This mess didn’t start with Obama, and it will not end with him, unless we elect different reps/senators/judges.
      Obama is just the one who has been the most blatant about desroying our country.

      Maybe this reflects that while the Blaze gets 6 million unique viewers each month
      (December 2011), the m/m gets fewer and fewer of them. And now that Glenn is #12 on the HollyWood Reporter’s list of the 50 top Innovators In Digital Technology more conservatives will subscribe GBTV and maybe a few liberals will realize what they are missing.

      Indeed. Even if I disagreed with Ron Paul on everything else, I’d still vote for him purely for wanting to scrap the department of education. People underestimate the role they plan in brainwashing kids into being leftists.

      Seriously? Does no one remember Bush actually STEALING the election in 2000? And somehow Obama is the one who cheated? It seems like most people tend to apply a lot of the misdeeds of Bush to Obama with no realization that they are doing that.
