Gallup Poll: Romney, Palin Early GOP Front Runners

A new Gallup poll on Thursday found that Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin are the early favorites for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination.
According to the poll, 19 percent would support Romney in a primary, followed by 16 percent who would support former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee garned 12 percent of the votes.
But those weren’t the only names mentioned. According to the poll, “in addition to the 12 named candidates, 1% of respondents volunteered the name of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie.”
However, an MSNBC/WSJ poll reveals that Romney is starting out in a weaker position than similar front runners in years past:
But if Romney is the front-runner, he’s starting out at a much weaker position than Bob Dole or John McCain ever did at this point in the ’96 and ’08 cycles. According to our latest NBC/WSJ poll, Romney’s national fav/unfav is upside down at 21%-30%, compared with Dole’s net-positive 38%-25% in Sept. ’94 and McCain’s 40%-16% in June ’06. Intensity is a problem, too, for Romney. Just 6% view him VERY positively, versus 14% for Dole in ’94 and 11% for McCain in ’06.
That poll also shows that Republicans have a less favorable view of Romney than they did of Dole or McCain at this point:
His fav/unfav among GOPers and conservatives is, respectively, 38%-17% and 30%-19%. For Dole in ’94, it was 65%-9% and 58%-14%. And for McCain in ’06, it was 47%-16% and 40%-17%.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 3:29pmMr. Romney has been running for the top spot for years and he continues to be the biggest snooze in career politics; he is a follower, not a leader, and simple does not have what it takes to win over the hearts and minds of voters or to win against obama. On the other hand, Sarah Palin is viewed by everyone (on the right, the left and in the middle) as the anti-obama and is the most exciting, engaging, pro-America person to hit GOP and American politics in decades; she is enemy number one to the dying breed of slobbering-obama-liberal that has run our nation into the ground. Let’s face it, everyone knows who she is, everyone knows where she stands on the issues (or has easy access to her positions), and she receives constant media coverage, both positive and faux-negative. No other person can take on obama and win. Sarah Palin will run, she will be the GOP nominee and she will be our 45th president. President Palin is America’s last, best hope.

Based on what criteria? The American people have in the main chosen governors as their Presidents, due to the glaringly obvious fact that only a governership can give one relevant experience. It is *the* only real executive political experience possible, wouldn’t you say?
It occurs to me that we’ve had lots of “qualified” people over the past decades, who have uniformly led us to ruin. I’m not interested in anymore Ivy League “geniuses” with law degrees.
I seem to recall that the greatest President in the last century once played a supporting role to a chimpanzee in “Bedtime for Bonzo”. A B-movie actor was the best president in our lifetime, by far, with second best being so far back you can’t see him over the horizon.
Somehow an energetic, vivacious Conservative woman with a baby on one hip and a hunting rifle on the other says “Don’t Tread On Me” much better than anything else I can imagine today. Certainly more than any so totally last week ideas of what constitutes “qualified”.
We the People decide who’s qualified.

And every time congress tries to give a tax break to a business the world court fines the US in violation and allows the foreign country to impose an additional tariff. The person who supports Romney is part of the Republican elite/RINO.
We need to wake up and pick our candidates carefully. I‘ve often heard people jump quickly on the bandwagon of Huckabee but I’ve heard that his record is also fairly liberal. I won‘t make any decision until they’re all thoroughly vetted – likely by the Tea Party – because the media won’t do it.

I could give a flip what the left wing and media think of her and neither should conservatives. How did worrying about the moderates and Democrat votes work out for us this past election? If you recall, Reagan was no darling of the press or the left wing and he won 49 states without compromising his conservatism or worrying about appealing to the other side for votes. When someone runs on a pure conservative platform they win. Look at Christie, Reagan, Demint. I would really like to see Mike Pence get out there too and even a Palin/Pence or Pence/Palin ticket.

To be quite frank with you, I have believed for a couple months now that the Tea Party needs to make a very concerted effort to reach out to Black Voters. Glenn Beck’s rally was wonderful. But as I watched the video it’s easy to see why the press described it as a “White man’s rally.” Not good. Not a good image. The Tea Party needs to prominently display minorities as a distinct part of its assemblage.

Sarah Palin never said she could see Russia from her backyard. That was Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live. The media and Libs have lied to you and they pass it off as Sarah saying it.
Sarah said she had more foreign affair experience than Obama/Biden because her State (which she governed) bordered two foreign countries.
Now about Sarah Barracuda. I would not vote for her in the primaries. I love her to death. But, she quit on Alaska. I understand why she quit. She was protecting her family from attacks and the residents of Alaska from paying all of the court expenses of her numerous lawsuits. But, she still quit and I can guarantee the attacks will only get worse in 2012. The Libs and LSM will have their backs against the walls in a losing battle and they will not pull punches. Sarah will be attacked ten-fold. if she wins the primary without my support, I will volunteer 20+ hours a week for her campaign like I did for HER (not McCain) in 2008. She will get 110% of my support in the general.

There are three sides, not two. There are the politically informed, who Constitute the Conservatives and the Liberals. Conservatives are 42%, Liberals are 20%. The remaining 38% are not informed and have no real party allegiance, they are the independent voters.
You *don’t* need a single liberal to win. You need to persuade the independent voters, just like Ronald Reagan did, with a hopeful message and the ability to clearly articulate Conservative values. Since Conservative values *are* the truth, they have the ring of truth, and independent voters are attracted to that like all humans are.
There is nobody in the current fold that can more authentically articulate those values, nor who is a more flawless exemplar of them, other than Sarah Palin.
She was a governor of a state, the best job experience you can get for a Presidential run.
Those who poo-poo a Palin run are woefully short-sighted, in my estimation.

Its a tricky situation because anyone that could truely win the election probably will not return the power to the states and counties. I wish we could find someone with guts enough to say they would cut the federal government in half, Someone who would have the MSM screaming at the top of their lungs 24/7, and someone who would provoke all the hollywood elites to threaten to leave the country if they were elected. That person would have my vote and many others.

Ron Paul lacks the spine to do much of anything but complain. To be honest he is not Presidential material. My Libertarian friends would be tearing their hair out reading this but it’s fact.
@ANONIMOUSE
If the Judge would run, I’d vote for him. He’s got the character, he’s got the umph! and he’s got the backbone to stand up against the crap-chute headed at the next President after the Lame-Duck congress DemonPasses us into oblivion. He’s not a blame-gamer, and it’s about time we have an Italian President! :D

How is Mitch Daniels “new people”, as opposed to Sarah Palin?

Really. Liberals support totalitarianism, Libertarians support effective anarchy. Yet they are both libtarded?

Diego, please reconsider. If you are a republican or independent then you should make your vote count. DON’T WASTE IT!! Not voting is just wrong!
Hillary is in the other deep pocket of Soros and if you don’t believe that then you are not paying attention. She is as much of an extreme leftist as Obama. The Clintons, while in office, had to drift toward the center in order to survive, not because they were moderates.
Think of your family and the future of America.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 6:39pmyes, we need to keep a free country! Vote for a republican this time no matter what. If you don‘t we will have a dictatorship if demo’s get in & they will pass laws to do away with free speech, right to vote, etc. No jobs, no guns, no speech, & total slavery to dem’s b/c of power. If you don’t understand please listen to this old dragon. I have lived a long time & am wise. The evil current of the underworld seeks to destroy & devour. How do I know well power has always been since the beginning of timeThey will tax you to death. Take awaay freedom of religion & pass ungodly laws that allow evil to be practiced in this world especially harmful to women & children’s rights.Even if you don‘t like the republican running vote out dem’s keep freedom & then vote next time for your man or woman. If they have the name progressive tagged on them they are not for humanity’s freedom & twist the truth into a lie. They are very good at making you believe good is bad & bad is good & confusion is of the devil. If you are confused that is demonic & dangerous. vote repub b/c they are more for the democracy & freedom.

Posted on September 30, 2010 at 7:16pmI think Romney would be an excellent choice, he’s very experienced and balanced in all areas that a president requires, with some huge bonus points for economic smarts, plus he’s a very strong values based conservative. I think some folks are jumping to conclusions without looking at the big picture here or knowing the man. But I’d vote for his leadership any day! And I really like what Sarah is doing for the conservative movement (she is invaluable), but she’s simply not ready to be an American president at this point.

Posted on October 2, 2010 at 1:00amI don’t know why Romney is a favorate at all. Didn’t he make universal health care in Massacheusetts? I thought we were against universal govt controlled health care. Do people forget that quickly? Let’s not vote for anyone because they are cute and can make a good speech. I know Ron Paul is not cute and he squeals when he jabbers, but he is right really often. I know Alan Keyes uses big words too often, but he’s the most educated and most consistent and most unmoved by which way the wind blows than any among all of them, and always has been. You can look up an old speech that Keyes made and it still applies today! If you want Reagan, you want Alan, (only he doesn’t tell jokes as well.) I hope someone at least uses Keyes for an advisor. When it comes time to vote in the primary for Pres of the US, make your best choice. Then stick with us in the General Election!
