‘Gannon Is Not Going To The Prgrogm’: 6 Year Old Outsmarts School With Forged Note

Public education might have just jumped the shark.

Gannon Farley, a first grader from Middleboro, Massachusetts, was apparently like most first graders in that he was sick of being stuck at school for hours on end and just wanted to go home to play with his Wii. However, unlike most first graders, Farley apparently possessed such an audacious capacity for deceit that he was able to fool a school administrator into actually letting him get out of an after-school program and leave school early…with a note written in fluorescent yellow marker.

Yes, that’s right. Apparently this convinced a school administrator:

First Grader Gannon Farley Outwits His School With Handwritten Misspelled NoteFor those who can’t tell, the note reads: “Dery Mrs. Trotty, Gannon is not going to the prgrogm.”

Shockingly, this brilliant forgery attracted some suspicion. However, when the school failed to reach Farley’s mother, they apparently decided it was perfectly alright to just take it on faith that this note, written in marker and with misspellings no parent could possibly have made, was genuine.

Unfortunately for them, when Farley’s mother, Amie Nay, did hear that her son had failed to show up for his after school program, she panicked and spent hours searching for him in terror until a neighbor called to report that the little six year old was with her. And to no one’s surprise, Nay is now hopping mad at school administrators for being duped by a six year old child.

Amie Nay, Gannon Farley's mother

The Daily Mail reports:

Nay is furious that her son’s school would put his life in danger and accept a note that had been written by a child.

“I looked at it and I said to the principal, ‘you’re kidding me right, really? This was accepted as a legitimate note?”‘ Nay told NECN.com.

“It terrifies me to think that he managed to outsmart your administration.”

The school claims the incident was investigated but the secretary who dismissed Gannon remains at the institute.

“She’s still employed,” Nay told NECN. “I don’t feel that appropriate action has been taken.”

Gannon, meanwhile, says he won’t be pulling this stunt again, claiming he “wasn’t thinking anything” when he wrote the note. At the risk of being flippant, one seriously doubts that a six-year-old has the impulse control necessary to think before doing something like this – that’s why schools have adults who can spot this behavior in the first place.

Cass Sunstein says this is exactly why we need to start putting prison fences up around schools. Just think, if we had Homeland Security guards at the gates this kid never would have been able to leave the safe combines of his school.

Obviously the local SROs are not capable of maintaining the security of these children. This womans terror wouldn‘t have happened and it’s the exact reason we need federal officers patrolling the nations schools.

I’m starting to understand how progressive logic works. Forward on Comrade. Forward on.

In socialist France, school fences and locked doors are to keep parents OUT. Really no kidding. The overall atmosphere in schools is “parents not allowed– just trust us, whatever we do here is for your child’s and YOUR own good.” Parents are taught just to leave it alone and do as they are told. Then when there is a problem with a child– of course it is the parent’s fault for not taking an interest.

First we tried private school– you could actually walk onto school grounds to pick up your child!
Then we homeschooled. Much MUCH better.

Ever wonder why the majority of educators, lawyers, judges, sociologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, many in the counseling fields/health professionals and many more that impact your life are liberal. The libs figured it out long ago…control the children via education. Hit the colleges first and work the way down.
This infestation impacts everything you do and believe….now keep posting stupid crap here versus organizing against this heavy inculcated in education machine. End lawyers (notorious to compromise with the competition or lie to get a win) controlling our laws, teachers controlling our children and shut down scientists/docs that are pushing crap.
Why did not one person speak about Nancy Sebring having her sister work in the same Des Moines School district – because now nepotism is acceptable, where was the tea party to slam this liberal unethical skank?
Probably posting here at The Blaze….

As a public school teacher, I have seen some pretty scary examples of parents’ writing skills. Although I often double check the really bad ones (and get a lot of flack for doing so), I am amazed at how many are real. Some misspell their own kids’ names, while others write in crayon.

The “teachers” need to return to school and perhaps take a few courses on common sense.
ya’get what ya; deserve…if parents would be involved they would know the teachers and whether or not they are any good..course most of the parents aren;t any better.

I hate to play devil’s advocate, but suppose the adult did write that letter and was suffering from dyslexia/some other ailment that they had to write that way. In this litiguous society, they’d end up suing the school for humiliation and having no respect for persons with disability. Part of the problem we will have with a society whose mentality is to sue for ridiculous amounts for perceived slights.

Then it would‘ve been in the school’s best interest to make sure they got a hold of the mother before releasing the kid.

When in doubt, make sure you get a hold of a parent or other adult.

      @ TEXASGRANNY73

This is just the writing of an adult who was taught reading and writing using the Whole Language program as developed in the late 80‘s early 90’s in Oneonta NY, SUNY by name! This program purports that students learn to write by writing–spelling is not important, grammer is not important, page setup is not important–just express yourself and get an “A” for content!

However, someone has to READ the writing to determine the content, and if you have ever read an examination booklet (a “blue book” used for college essay exams), you will know that Whole Language is failing the students! I used to be an office manager in the Sociology department in a large Eastern Univeristy. Professors would bring these booklets to me or my assistant to see if we could read what a student had written. I guess the theory was, if we could read the professors’ writings, we could read anything! However, much of what was penned by high school graduates made no sense and even if we struggled through to determine content, it had NO CONTENT, therefore was failed (at least at that Augustinian (honest) university!

Maybe that is why most college exams today are multiple choice where you only have to fill in a dot!

After I moved to NY, I realized I knew the retired Chair of the department that developed Whole Language learning. I had to ask him, “WHAT WHERE YOU THINKING”?

“Brilliance” teaching absurdity, or absurdity trying to replicate brilliance?

@Logan54 Good reply in seeing this from another angle. I had thought this really could have been
written by an adult. In education today, a lot of students are promoted to the next grade, even when
they didn’t master the skills from the classes taught in their current grade. If the adult NEVER wrote letters, checks, took down phone messages etc., perhaps the only writing instrument was a crayon.
      Hey! It’s possible.

I hate to play devil’s advocate in this case…but hear me out. Suppose an adult did write that for their child, and he/she was suffering from dyslexia or something else that made it difficult for them to write and spell normally. In todays litiguous society, that parent would then sue the school for being discriminatory against them, subjecting them to undue embarrassment, etc etc. It’s bound to be a problem to be ultra worried about offending someone when the initial reaction is always to sue.

@outthesocialist – We don‘t need to raise the teacher’s pay!!!! We need to eliminate the Dept. of Education so there can be competition in schools!!! Get rid of unions, therefore eliminating tenure, thereby demanding quality performance from the teachers!!!! By the way, give the 6 yr. old some credit!! Kids are smart but they’re also born with the ability to lie. He probably saw it on a kid‘s movie or maybe a doctor’s excuse & realized he could do it too!!!!

The six year old is right. He should be at home with mom. Not at some lame state indoctrination after school program. Better yet mom should be home schooling her child instead of the state if she loves him. Moms working and shirking their responsibility of raising our youth and providing a solid neighborhood community is the root of much of what is wrong with our youth and our society.

I guess this is what you get when you spend so much per child for a public school system. Another reason to take the school systems back to the late 1800′s and have schools totally controlled by the local community. If parents had control of the schools in their communities and take the federal government out, it could not get worse than it is now.
