Gawker’s Fox News Mole Reveals Himself — And Then Gets Fired

Fox News Fires Joe Muto, Gawkers Fox Mole

Joe Muto, the "Fox mole." (via Gawker)

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Fox News had found out the identity of the mole within its ranks that was slipping information to the website Gawker by way of what was supposed to be a regular column (it only took one column for Fox to figure out who it was). Now the mole has revealed his identity — and he’s been promptly fired.

So who is it? His name is Joe Muto and he was apparently an associate producer for “The O’Reilly Factor.” Before he was permanently relieved of his duties, Muto penned an article for Gawker describing what happened:

Two hours ago I was called into a meeting with Dianne Brandi, the Fox News Executive Vice President of Legal and Business Affairs and suspended indefinitely… with pay, oddly enough.

They nailed me.

In the end, it was the digital trail that gave me away. They knew that someone, using my computer login, had accessed the sources for two videos that ended up on Gawker over the past few weeks. They couldn’t prove it entirely, but I was pretty much the only suspect.

I denied it, which is why they didn’t fire me outright. But two nice gentlemen from security escorted me to my desk to pack up my stuff, and it was pretty obvious at that point that I would not be setting foot back into 1211 Avenue of the Americas again.

But where as Muto had simply been suspended when he wrote his swan song, Fox tells media insider Mediaite that he’s been canned:

Joe Muto is fired effective April 12. Once the network determined that Mr. Muto was the main culprit in less than 24 hours, he was suspended late today while we pursued concurrent avenues. We are continuing to explore legal recourse against Mr. Muto and possibly others.

“I am a weasel, a traitor, a sell-out and every bad word you can throw at me… but as of today, I am free, and I am ready to tell my story,” he concludes, “which I wasn’t able to fully do for the previous 36 hours.”

All cut from the same “ transparent ” cloth of Lies, deception, the Code of Marx and Alinsky: it’s all about winning ; not about HOW you win.

      Muto seems to have an over-inflated perception of himself. He’s “free” to do what now? He was a low level hack that took 8 years to get to his low-level position at FOX. He’s nothing but a clock puncher. He‘s not privy to any of the inner workings of the high level decisions at the network or O’Reilly’s programme that his co-conspirators were seeking. Much like the trolls Media Matters sends here like JZS or MONACNE…Muto is a nothing that amounts to nothing. By all means…feel “free” Mr Muto to spill the beans on the lack of any knowledge you possess.

Go look at his interview with Mike Wallace in 2004. Bill O is no conservative, never has been, never will be. He is a left leaning Independent at best. He has given Oblahblah a pass at every opportunity, he let’s the lefties off the hook when he has a chance to nail them. He even thinks this upcoming Presidential election is going to the CLOSE, I say balderdash! I have cut down on watching his shows because he sometimes infuriates me at his naivety of the left. At times he is right on, but as I’ve watched many of his shows, he is sometimes off-base and misguided in his talking points and approach. You mean THAT Bill-O? LOL

      Huh? If you’re talking about Boycott the Media Let the People Decide, I don‘t see where you’re coming from. Maybe one of us doesn’t understand his meaning.

      I don‘t know for a fact that Fox’s ratings are down, but it wouldn’t surprise me. All my friends stopped watching when Beck left the network. Most of us were already complaining about Gretta (puff piece, makes sure you always blame both sides), Geraldo (Leftist/Statist Progressive), Hannity (can’t say enough good about Republicans) and O’Reilly (ego-maniac who can’t take a firm stand on anything).

      Who wants to watch Fox News when they can get the same crap on any other network? I suppose Fox News isn’t quite as left-leaning as MSNBC, but that’s not saying very much. It’s saying nothing at all if you start looking at people like Shepard Smith.

      @Unix

      “Independent” is just another way of saying wishy-washy, won’t take a principled stand, Progressive. At least, that’s what I see.

      It used to mean, “I’m neither a Republican nor a Democrat”. Of course, with the Democratic Party co-opted by Progressives, many Independents became Republican by default. Now that the Republican Party is ALSO co-opted by the Progressives, people like me only identify as “Tea Party”, and it‘s almost impossible to cast a vote that makes you feel like you’ve made an acceptable choice – or that you even had one to begin with.

      Wrap your heads around this for a minute… If you read his article, he’s essentially blaming Fox for (in his own words) being blacklisted by the rest of the (Hard Left) Media because he’s working on Fox.

      Uh… dunce? Need I remind you that the problem isn’t the company that gave you a job AT NETWORK- the Holy Grail of broadcasting, mind you, but it’s the *rest* of the Hard Left Media that’s blackballed you? I thought the thing that the Left hated most coming out of the Red Scare Era was precisely the fact that they were being blacklisted, and yet here they are, doing it themselves.

      I’ll say it again: In one hand, you have a job that’s the Holy Grail in your industry, on the other, you have your own people BLACKLISTING YOU and you;re blaming the company that gave you the job?

      You know what’s worse? In the real world, this blatantly beliggerent and malcontented attitude paired with his high profile firing would normally cause prospective employers pass someone over in the hiring process. For the circus mirror that is the Media, it actually raises his chances that he’ll get hired somewhere else!

      What kind of bizzarro world is the Media in?!

    This is so stupid and seemingly irrelevent that it has to be a Liberal tactic. I look for him to be on all the MSM programs spewing lies that make Fox look like evil doers. Then Holder and other loonies will demand Fox be gone. After all, Holder is probably bored to death since there is absolutely nothing happening in this country that he should be doing something about. Not to mention, with the upcoming election, Obama would love to silence Fox.

      I‘m betting you’re wrong. He’s a hero to them for going behind enemy lines. He took one for the team. No matter how slimy he is or his actions are, he’s still a hero in the liberal mind. Yet the guy who goes undercover for Breitbart is an evil, evil man. The warped lib mind…

      Totally agree, Cat. I don’t like interruptors and talk-right over-you’s to begin with, but when he let Juan Williams guesthost his show, that was the end of BillO’ for me.

      @Catb.
      Regardless of who’s show he was connected with, it was just another way for soros and the commie left to go after Fox.Sadly Fox “was” and good source of news, without much of an agenda, but since soros threatened Beck, his people and of course Murdoch,they have cow-towed to the commie left and started to become the sheep that is the left.

      That’s not what I meant, MARINE. As far as Juan goes, I think he’s a stand-up guy (anybody that NPR cans is ok in my book). Juan has strong leftist leanings, however, and, imho, I didn‘t care for him hosting BillO’s show. If you’re trying to paint me as a racist, then you sir, are a pinhead.

      JACK: Agree . Juan Williams seems like a decent guy BUT he also shows how much race can slant one’s views. For a decent, older journalist to be in total denial of Obama’s failed policies , shows why the Soros Crowd picked Obama : the perfect candidate for blind allegiance from the black population. Sad to see but crafty on their part.

      I emailed Fox and told them if Juan Williams hosted the show again that would be it for me. I do not turn to Fox News to watch Juan Williams. Most everything that comes out of Williams mouth is just crazy. Bill himself has been stepping in it more often as well.
