Gay Activists Upset Over Graphic HIV PSA

A new, extremely graphic, New York City public service announcement aimed at preventing HIV within the young gay community has some activists up in arms, while city officials say similar ads are effective.

The split is over language and pictures depicting one of the consequences of HIV: anal cancer. New York 1 reports on why some activists think the ad is stigmatizing, and why the city disagrees:

According to NBC’s New York affiliate, at least one gay rights group has come out in support of the ad. The full ad can be seen below:

      @ americanfreedompatriot – the “bleed(ing) on a regular basis” is a natural cleansing process that is in no way unnatural. Besides, I would rather be with and stay something that bleeds on a regular basis. At least it lubricates naturally rather than relying on store-bought assistance for every random encounter.

    The only thing that’s disgusting is the utter bigotry shown in almost every one of these comments. You people are ignorant bigots, plain and simple. But I find solace in the fact that, although you’ll keep fighting tooth and nail for to cling to your hateful medieval morality, your shouting will steadily and inevitably be reduced to an innocuous whisper as the vast majority of Americans come to accept gay people as people too. I know you’ll keep up with the dehumanizing till the very end, but you know what, he end is in sight, whether you like it or not. So get with the program people – maybe actually allow yourself to get to know someone who’s different from yourself. Or continue on with a miserable, hate-filled existence. Your choice.

      I agree that some comments are not positive, but you take no responsibility for what the gay agenda is doing to the nation. You only leash out at the ones that are frustrated about it. The frustration is due to the fact that the gay agenda is working and this offers an outlet to let people know how it feels to be powerless.

      Homosexuals have been frustrated for sometime about their issues not being heard, but they feel a little better now that HIV/AIDS affect heterosexuals too. In fact it was a purposeful event to ensure this happened “you will pay attention now that your babies have HIV.”

      In any event, I believe that this issue will take care of itself. We are becoming sophisticated in the sciences and new discoveries are made everyday. I believe HIV will be eradicated but so will other social issues that make society dysfunctional and unproductive. Obamacare is the beginning to getting rid of those contributors (people that take up a lot of resources to care for, I let you fill in the blank. But don’t be so thinned skinned in identifying gays here, try old seniors and the disabled first). You sound like you love and voted for obama, so congrats.

      This ad simply shows the negative consequences of choices made. Like, what woman wants to see her baby cut up in pieces in a bloody bucket. Thus, no buckets in anti-abortion ads. I say, pull the ad and let people deal with the consequences.

      Homosexuality is a mix of nature and nurture. That means there is a genetical component here and once science identifies the glitch, it’s lights out for homosexuality. And so on to a more perfect society.

    That ad is incorrect in depicting homosexuals as the primary cause of HIV. That maybe true to some extent in this nation but world wide it is the heterosexual population that has been devastated by that disease. Africa is a prime example where entire generations have been wiped out leaving orphaned children.
    Instead of throwing a fit about it, the gay leaders should put up a similar ad pointing to the real statistics that heterosexuals by and large are the primary victims of HIV. Even in this nation the rate of growth of this disease is increasingly seen among drug users who share tainted needles and most of those drug users are not gay.

      Current CDC data shows that contagion in the U.S. occurs primarily through young gay males. Also gays were responsible for the transmission of HIV from the host city in Africa to the rest of the world.

      The spread of HIV in Africa is a different story. The problem in Africa is that men of all orientations are highly promiscuous and don’t wear condoms, and prostitution is rampant. So HIV spread in Africa is more a matter of social breakup than sexual orientation.

    HIV is the only PREVENTABLE STD. If you don’t want to become infected and suffer the consequences, practice safe sex. Don’t scream discrimination and/or expect others to pay for your chosen lifestyle. When you have unsafe sex, whether you know you are infected or not, you can be charged with attempted murder. The law is on the books and has been used many times. Claiming ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law and endangering public safety. The person who chooses to have unsafe sex with you is also responsible. They made a choice and they will have to live with the consequences. Accept responsibility for what you alone chose to do and stop blaming “gay discrimination” at every turn. We did not make you make an unwise and unsafe decision and place your life in danger along with others. Get tested. Wear a condom and know your partners status. When you choose instant gratification over safety, you will eventually pay the ultimate price and only you are to blame. You had a choice and knowingly made the wrong one. How is that anyone elses fault? The gays I know do not enter into relationships lightly. They each get tested and enter into long term serious relationships in a responsible manner.

    The truth is that the life span of homosexuals was shortened by their behavior, even before AIDS. Homosexual behavior causes tears in the fragile lining of the rectum, forcing fecal matter into the bloodstream, causing blood infections which can be lethal. It is sick and wrong, period. It should be stigmatized.

      Yes, we know it is possible, but we also know that AIDS was intentionally spread into the straight community by Gays in the 80s with an axe to grind. We know this, because they said so themselves. We also know that for a time, before there was testing, that AIDS was spread through the blood supply. Infected gays intentionally donated infected blood ahead of testing programs, and we know this, because gay rights activists said they were doing it and they supported it.

      We also know that in this country (USA) the vast majority of infected people are gay, or BI males.

      White males who do not use illicit IV drugs or run around on their wives have about no chance of contracting AIDS. However, those same men are all but 100% certain to be taxed out the backside (pun intended), to pay for the choice gay/BI men make.

      We’re sick of hearing about it. We’re sick of paying for it and we want the LGBT community to shut up and leave us and our wallets alone. What part of, “We don’t care what you do – just do it in private and keep it private” is so hard for the LGBT community to understand.

      I promise to never run around in the street in a thong declaring my raging heterosexuality and affection for my wife in exchange for LGBT silence about whatever their choices are.

      You say you know all these things about homosexuality and HIV/AIDS, but don’t really offer more than “gay activists admitted this” or simply, “we know.” In fact, there doesn’t appear to be one true fact in that vast field of garbage you just spewed. Gay activists intentionally infected the blood supply in the 80s? You have got to be kidding me. That is total slander based on nothing but hatred. There is at least one other semi-reasonable person on this site who has correctly pointed out that the world’s biggest HIV problems are among heterosexual populations. Of course, acknowledging the truth that straight sex spreads the disease just as easily as gay sex would deprive you of the false ammunition with which you persecute those you dislike.

    How in the world does someone find love in the hairy backside of a man? Disgusting.

    They make the choice to participate in unnatural acts with multiple sexual partners and they don’t want the medical consequences disclosed, because it insensitive and demonizes them to the public?

    Meanwhile, we’re to afford them super-rights and spend billions of tax payer dollars on medical research so they can conduct themselves in any way they wish without any consequences.

    I reason they are all mentally ill and fractured emotionally. Nature does reward such behaviors – it would select any species participating in its own destruction for extinction. Only if, as is most certainly true, man is God’s creation and endowed with “Free Will” can he choose to participate in such behaviors. LGBT’s cannot have it both ways – either they are making a choice as human beings created by God, or as they assert, there is no God and there is only nature. If that is true, then nature will select them for extinction. This, in my view, utterly destroys the argument that there is a “gay gene.” There isn’t in my view, there are only choices and the choices gay men make result in diseases that the whole of society should be made aware of and gay sex, for all that it is, should be known for the risks it presents – beginning with the risks to the human soul.

    LGBT’s, you have a choice. Make the right one and seek help. Turn to God through Jesus Christ and he will heal your heart and then you can begin to heal your mind. If you make the wrong choice, please leave everyone else alone. We don’t want to hear about your “orientation”, ever! We don’t want to be forced to afford you super-rights, just because you find love in the nasty backsides of other men. It’s none of our business, so stop making it our business by forcing us to pay for the choices you have made freely.

      You resent being taxed for the result of gay lifestyle choices, so I guess that means you resent being taxed for diabetic lifestyle choices, or smoker lifestyle choices, or alcoholic lifestyle choices, or criminal lifestyle choices. What lifestyle choices have YOU made that end up being funded for research or support by MY taxes??? There must be SOME choices you have made that result in a tax.       You correctly said that HIV/AIDS is not just a gay disease. I think that the GLBT issue with the ad is that it implies that it is just a gay disease.

      Yes, that is exactly my point – God did create all people and he gave them all Free Will – so gays are exercising their will and making choices – many of them very harmful to themselves and those around them.

      God did not make them gay, he made them free and independent and he believed that man would love him. Even when man did not, God didn’t give up on man and the Christ was born so that man could be saved no matter what his sins were.

      So yes, god made those that choose to be gay – he also made those that made other bad decisions. Free Will means that man is free to make bad decisions, too.

      To bad we wasted billions looking for a cure for AIDS, allowed billions to be killed by AIDS due to political correctness. When this first came out, and there were just a few thousand with it, we could have quarantined them, given them a million a piece, treated them like kings for the rest of their lives and been done with it once and for all. Instead we did everything we could to extend their lives to the point now, they can spread the disease for 30 years or more, causing countless people to suffer needlessly.
