Gay & Lesbian Advocacy Group Petitions CNN to Ban ‘Anti-Gay’ Guests

GLAAD, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, initiated a petition drive Thursday in an attempt to persuade CNN to prohibit guest appearances by representatives of what the group calls “the anti-gay industry.”
“CNN has long been one of America’s most respected journalistic organizations on many issues, but for several years, it has had a giant blind spot when it comes to issues that impact the LGBT community,” the group’s petition says, citing a recent John King USA segment in which Peter Sprigg, a senior fellow of the Family Research Council, voiced opposition to the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
The Family Research Council is a conservative organization that promotes “faith, family and freedom in public policy and public opinion.” But according to GLAAD, Sprigg “has worked to advance some of the most hurtful, dangerous, and demonstrably false notions about the lives of LGBT people that our country has seen in recent years.”
“CNN needs to stop elevating anti-gay opinions to the level of the actual experts who they SHOULD be talking to; people like scholars, historians, professionals, or folks with actual experience (not just animosity),” says a statement from GLAAD.
Here’s the CNN segment in which GLAAD claims Sprigg was “anti-gay.” You decide: Is Sprigg’s opposition to a DADT repeal inherently “anti-gay”?
In response CNN released a statement saying that they appreciated GLAAD’s “concern for objective and fair reporting,“ and promised to to continue to book the best guests who ”have opinions that reflect different points of view across the country.”

Posted on January 6, 2011 at 11:15pmI personally don’t care if someone is gay or not. It is a personal choice. I have a problem when they think that they have more rights than those of us who are not gay. I also do not approve of indoctrinating our children . As a parent I believe that it is my duty to educate my children as I see fit. I do not want my grandchildren to be exposed to that information at their schools instead of from their parents. My christian beliefs prevents me from approving of that lifestyle, but I wish them no harm and respect their choice to be gay.

It just doesn’t work. It’s a shame this group is trying to equate anti-gay people to racists. Where will they draw the line – next it will be “normal” for grown ups to like sex with kids. People are born a particular race, but I certainly don’t think they are born gay.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 1:16amIt doesn’t even matter whether someone was born with homosexual desires. There are many people born anti=social, bipolar, predisposition for alcohol and drug addictions and many other personality disorders. The simple fact that the human plumbing as you said is not designed to be treated that way and is impossible for two men or two women to reproduce settles the argument as to Gods design. I don’t care what consenting adults do in their private lives, but when someone or a group tries to make me accept something that I will never accept or believe is morally acceptable is where I draw the line . If that makes me homophobic Ill wear that badge with honor. I have plenty of shortcomings myself, but I won’t try to manipulate you to believe they are acceptable.

If GLAAD wants to petition them to do this censoring they can. If CNN actually wants to censor they can too. Congress or any government entity is not involved and no one is being forced to do anything, at least not by Congress or the Federal Government. Just like I can censor anyone I want from my own home. I am not gay but also fill it is not “natural” as GOD intended for us to live. I have known people who from a baby seemed to be different?? Not sure what is happening with that but in the end GOD made us male and female for a reason. I know alot of MEN love to think about being with TWO WOMEN at the same time. Well what they fell to realize is in doing so they are partaking of a homosexual encounter. The same desire that drives two men also drive two women.

@CATB Don’t act so high and mighty, you do the same exact thing to homosexuals. You’re all about small government staying out of our lives but you have no problem with big Government regulating homosexuals out.
@KRYPTONITE Are you implying that only gays sexually assault people in the military? I’ve been in the Army long enough and have NEVER heard of a homosexual rape. Ever. Not even implied. And with DADT gays were more than capable and have been serving with honor.
@DUSTYLUV You are more than capable of sticking your manhood into a womans rectum too. I still laugh at the recruitment aspect. Do you believe you are capable of being recruited into the gay lifestyle? If you believe that it’s a recruitable or “choice” aspect of life then you must accept the fact that you are capable of being gay. I don‘t believe it’s a choice, i believe they were born that way. Why do I believe this? Because I know I can’t just choose my sexual preference. I like women. No matter how hard a gay recruiter is, he can’t recruit me, this I know. Why should I be scared of a gay person? Why are you?
@CHEEZWHIZ Guarantee those Muslims are anti-gay too and I bet if they said the same thing against gays, they’d oppose them as well. How often does CNN or any news organization even have Muslims who are activist against Homosexuality? I‘m not saying there are none but when’s the last time you’ve heard of an organization here in America that is Muslim and Anti-Gay. To say they’re pinning this on Christians is a fallacy. It just so happens that all you see advocating against homosexuality are the Christian organizations. Is that GLAAD’s fault?
To the story, I believe they are wrong to ask/demand CNN censor themselves with something like Anti-gay guests. It’s a news organization. They’re suppose to report the news, the good and the bad, of both sides of the argument. They are wrong for asking what they are asking.

You want to be proud of your sin? Reap the consequences then. I am tolerant of my gay next door neighbor, I even like the guy as a friend, but he comes in my shower while I am bathing, well at least I can wash the blood down the drain.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 7:08amThat doesn’t seem like a very smart approach unless they want other outlets to ban gay and lesbian guests – discrimination is discrimination no matter which side you’re representing. Think they need to rethink this in a more accepting way or they will raise more hostility towards gays and lesbians.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 7:19amYou can’t be anti-gay but you can be pro-gay, right ? The queers would love to silence the straight opposition to their deviate life style. If your gay, then freedom of speech is okay for homosexuals, but if your not gay it’s not okay for hetrosexuals. When these people are given an inch ( DADT ) they want a foot, yard and then DEMAND that you give them a mile. Homosexuallity is not a “gene problem ” and nobody was “ born gay ”. That‘s just a poor attempt to excuse oneself from the guilt of being what they are because they know it’s wrong.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 9:20am@UPSETVET, as a fellow upset vet I agree with you. I know of a guy that was fresh out of boot camp and was raped by two other guys. They invited him over after working hours, drugged him, and raped him. Those two guys are in the brig, and the guy that was raped was told basically, sorry about your luck, now get back to work.
@AmericanSoldier, I generally don’t care what people do, especially in the privacy in their own bedrooms, but c’mon, they are born that way? Sorry, I don’t think so. I was stationed ount in San Diego and I saw it for myself. Within some circles, being gay or acting gay is cool, it’s trending in Liberal areas. Nothing positive can come from such a life style. It’s a flawed identity, and warped mentality. It goes against the basic laws of nature. But like I said, I don’t care what you, or they do, I am just sick of hearing about it and how I should except the GLBT community. I just want them to STFU, keep it in the closet, the gay life style will never be main steam, the more I have to hear from these people the more I dislike them, that life style is repulsing to me and I am sick of hearing about it. The more they try and make their life style acceptable, the intolerable I am becoming, STFU, stick what you want where ever you want just STFU about it, again STFU!!!!!

To label a speaker a bigot or a racist for a comment that offends minimizes true racism. If being offended is enough to squander our freedom of speech, I’m offended by those who are offended. Such censorship offends me.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 1:04pmIt must be so nice, to be perfect and straight. I didn’t choose to be gay, but I did try to be straight, all through and after high school. Dating girls/women and hiding my true feelings from everyone because of the hateful crap some people spew. Not to mention the gay bashings, just to beat up someone that’s different than they are. Did you know Christians and others are using the same arguments on gay marriage that was used against interracial marriages ? Maybe some of you should read up on Anti-miscegenation laws in America. Did you know a conservative lawyer is the primary person fighting for gay marriage and to over turn CA’s Prop-8 ?
I’m so glad that so many of you follow the bible to the letter. If you want to implement the Bible’s standard for marriage, it is clear that many many marriages were one man – many wives. These marriages were clearly not condemned by God in the scriptures, nor by the rabbinical or Temple authorities. Did you know that Jesus said not one word — not one — about homosexuality. He did however condemn frequently and vehemently, those that condemn others. I understand divorce is a sin, but I guess that’s a exception Christians make and can live with.
You want the government to stay out of your lives and keep them from telling you how to live, but at the same time you want to restrict freedom and liberties from others telling them how NOT to live by passing laws against them. These people are hypocrites in every sense of the word: [ @OLD TRUCKERS , @CATB , @KRYPTONITE, @DUSTYLUV, @CHEEZWHIZ, ].
@AmericanSoldier -Thank you for most of your postings on this topic.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 1:24pm@gaydem4beck. so you say jesus talked about condemming those who condem others. Hmm, well then the gay community as a whole with that analogy should be condemed by jesus himself. They are constantly trying to condem others and force others to keep their opinions to themselves, and make what they do seem moraly correct. So thanks for the analogy.

Posted on January 7, 2011 at 1:27pm@GAYDEM4BECK Most? Hahaha. I’m with ya. For those that argue that people can turn gay or act gay to be cool, it’s my opinion that those that “Turn gay” were already gay but hiding their true self for fear of what GAYDEM4BECK mentioned. Fear of bullying, fear of torment, fear of beatings and possibly being killed.
I’ll tell ya, even I’ve done this, many of us in an Infantry unit are so close to eachother, you’d think we were gay. We goof around like that. I’m secure in my manhood. It’s not a choice.
And even if it were, this is still America!
And yes, you will continue to hear the controversy until they are not treated as second class citizens. They aren’t asking for special treatment but for equal treatment. You don’t have to invite them into your homes, hell, I’d even say not into your business either. I’m a strong believer of businesses rights to discriminate. There will always be other businesses willing to profit from your discrimination.

What does being Christian have anything to do with this? I’m Christian, yet do you see me harping or raving against the gays? No, so please don’t lable an entire religious group as Bigots when elements of that group have no problems with Gays or Lesbians.
You don’t want to be called a bigot, so don’t insinuate the same on others.

Speaking to various people like Old Truckers you said; “You want the government to stay out of your lives and keep them from telling you how to live, but at the same time you want to restrict freedom and liberties from others telling them how NOT to live by passing laws against them.”
You should read more carefully what they said. For instance, Old Truckers never said he wanted homosexuals to be restricted in their freedoms or laws being passed against you. What he was saying is that sinners will reap what they sow, and he does not want to be close enough to see it. That is why he, personally has banned homosexuals. Do what you want, he does not care.
