GBTV: Glenn Parodies ‘Racist’ Headline Furor in ‘The C-Word’ Segment

Tonight, Glenn took on the furor surrounding the “Chink in the Armor” headline in a segment entitled “The C-word:”
During the segment, Glenn pointed out numerous examples of other headlines surrounding Knicks player Jeremy Lin that could easily be considered racist. He also parodied the idea of commonly used words or phrases being considered racist by arguing that the usage of the word “crackers” was racist (”Cracker,” besides referring to edible foodstuffs, is a derogatory term for white people).
“Ritz Crackers?” Glenn gasped in mask outrage. “What, are they saying all crackers are ritzy?”
Finally, Glenn took on Rep. Judy Chu (D-CA), whom he sarcastically “thanked” for comparing the usage of the word “chink” to the word “n—er” for blacks.
“What she apparently doesn‘t realize is that the expression ’chink in the armor’ has actually been around a lot longer than the 1800s! Yeah, we have been hearing that evil word since the middle ages!” Glenn exclaimed. “The knights would have Chinese people in their armor!”
Glenn previously took on this topic yesterday when he unloaded on ESPN and ABC for their oversensitivity about what he saw as probably an unintentional usage of a racist slur.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 9:29amSaw this on GBTV. I love how Glenn can take something as stupid as this, and make me laugh. I had never before thought of “ ***** in the armor” as racist, and have rarely heard ***** used to describe an Asian person. He’s right though, lets just stop talking all together and use sign language so that there is no way we can offend anyone. This is so absurd, that we cant use a phrase from the middle ages that has nothing to do with race.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 5:25pm“***** in the armor” itself is not a racist expression in the least bit, and has indeed been around for a long time (well before the term ***** was used as a racial epithet). However, it became racist the instant the journalist used it as some lame attempt at word-play when referring to someone of Asian descent. THIS is the whole reason people were upset by the headline. And fi you aren’t Asian or of Asian descent, you really don’t have a right to talk about whether or not this was offensive…

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 8:35ami have to agree with 4xeverything. going thru life worrying about what this person says or that person says means you should probably take a closer look at yourself. if someone calls me a cr@cker…so what. this is kindergarten stuff. and @sonic…just because u dont say anything because you get offended doesn’t mean you accept it. it means that your confident in your own self that you shouldn’t even have to respond. Good lord it seems we have an entire generation of wusses. oh no..i hope i didn’t offend anyone. if i did, call me a name in retaliation. see if i care. maybe i will stay awake at night thinking how offended i am.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 8:42amNo SONICK, accepting racism has nothing to do with being an adult. Using the age old saying “***** in the armor” is not racist either. But my point is that everyone is “offended” by everything anymore. Offending someone is not a crime, but you wouldn’t believe that in the mainstream media would you? When one person is “offended” by another anymore it seems that it means more than the common sense of the many. People are being raised to believe that their feelings are so important that they mean more than anything else in life, which means that everyone has to walk around on eggshells, constantly defending themselves for what common sense tells you is no reason at all, but because one person decides they want to twist around what it is you said. If I said that I like to eat crackers…someone somewhere is going to twist that around into a meaning that is both racist and sexual in nature. So, do I need to defend what I said? No, those people need to grow up and grow a thicker skin.
Report Post »SoNick
Posted on February 22, 2012 at 8:49am@Ticklemypickle: let me try to understand your point: standing up against blatant racism means you’re a wuss? Do you think women who object to being called “skirts” or “babes” (both expressions used by Brian Kilmeade on Fox and Friends on a regular basis) are just nags who should “man up” and “get a sense of humour”? Most people don’t want to be reduced to a racial stereotype. I certainly don’t want to be called a *******, because I don‘t hold a whip over anyone’s head. Does that make me thin skinned?
Report Post »SoNick
Posted on February 22, 2012 at 9:03am@4XEVERYTHING (sorry for mangling your screen name earlier) while I agree with your general sentiment that PC discourse leads to some completely absurd situations, let me clarify my main point: I don’t think the expression “Ch*nk in the Armor” is racist in itself, but using it to make a cheap pun about an asian player is. It’s all about context. Eating a c*acker is not racist. Calling all white people c*ackers is. Don’t you see the difference? That being said, I abhor censorship because I don’t consider words dangerous in and of themselves. And I’m sorry for all the asterisks, I don’t know which words get the ***** treatment anymore.
Report Post »TickleMyPickle
Posted on February 22, 2012 at 9:23am@sonic “Does that make me thin skinned?”
yes, and i dont mean that in a mean or insulting way honestly. most wars are created because someone is offended by what someone else says. my point is, who cares. i have more important things to worry about than trying to convince someone who is most likely a racist/ homophobic/ bigot to begin with, to try to say nicer things. going thru life always worrying about what other ppl are thinking, your never going to be happy/satisfied. i’m not saying to not stand up against racism. racism (or anything else) to me is more than just name-calling. sticks and stones. time to get past kindergarten games. part of the problem in the world today is because so many ppl are worried about what other ppl say. just because a racist says something in a “nicer” way, and that doesn’t offend, still makes them a racist. now they are just a polite racist. i think the point being, look at all this news because someone said “ch-i-nk”. the world is in turmoil and we’re worried about what someone said or how he said it. who the h cares. i would feel the same if someone called me names, my family, or my friends. So what, get over it. dont act like a child with their poor feelings hurt. it’s not worth the effort or the time over an “offensive” word that could mean anything. in this case, C-h-i-n-k, but that could be replaced by anything.

Report Post »As I said earlier, words are not inherently good or evil. The way we use them, however, matters a whole lot. I have noticed over the past few years a growing (and often justified) backlash against political correctness. That’s fine with me, but it also led a lot of genuine racists, homophobes and misogynists to reclaim certain words only to push their own agenda. Take a look at the messages on the Blaze. We’re witnessing an explosion of flaming rhetoric that is poisoning rational discourse. For example: some people have taken to comparing the current administration to the Nazi regime, to the point that “Democrats = Nazis” has become an acceptable concept. Why should it matter? Because once you have efficiently demonized Democrats as Nazis, you‘re saying that they’re evil creatures who should be stopped at all costs and it allows you to say absolutely ANYTHING about them, no matter how stupid, offensive or just plain wrong. I’ll say it again: language matters. A lot.

We’ve had a great debate, but I have laundary to do. Let’s all agree that if we are smart enough to know the difference, then those around us should be held to the same standards. If they are not, then it is their own fault, no one elses. I, like TICKLEMYPICKLE, say sticks and stones. The main stream media is pushing this racial tension cRap that actually has no real merit. They are pushing the left’s agenda and we the hard working, law abiding, independent people who would never be grouped into these subcatagories in “normal” times are being caught up in these stupid arguments and having to defend themselves just because they were born white. I for one am sick of it and I refuse to acknowledge these tools as in the mainstream way of thinking. The fact that we are debating this point at all is what this agenda is all about. So, I’m done defending my words…no more PC. Take it or leave it, I’m not worried about your feelings.

Words and be offensive to some more than others. someone calling me a no-good low down piece of crap craker or anything else. to my face or in cyber chat, really wouldn’t affect me. would it bother me, eh…maybe it would. we all have emotions. but look at some of the stupid things ppl do because they’re offended. i dunno, just my opinion for what it’s worth. just know i get it, the point your trying to make Sonic.i can see your side. but to me, the risk of violence/censorship/arguments just isn‘t worth the satisfaction of one’s own feelings. but nonetheless, i think we can agree to disagree on this topic.

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 2:42amSome interesting facts on the term “*******”
The term “*******” is quite old and still used today by many in central Florida to refer to themselves. It refers to those who use a whip to round up cattle and other livestock. The spanish used the term “cuáqueros,” to refer to Protestants (origionally Quakers)
The Florida “******* cowboys,” used the term to distinguish themselves from the spanish valeros and today from more recent immigrants to the area. They consider it a term of pride in their heritage in the land that goes back to the late 1700′s
In Elizabethan England the term ******* was used to describe someone who is loud and boastfull, and was also used in the phrase “cracked” a joke. In America is was later applied to the English and Scotch immigrants.
Report Post »The most recent adaptation which has become a racial slur, was adapted by black slaves to refer to the slave masters who also cracked a whip.

Report Post »Here was a film that was an equal opportunity offender. It positively wallowed in what would today be considered offensive racial slurs and insensitive stereotypes. It even has the dubious distinction of having the first fart joke in film.
Yet, its audience in 1974 had enough common sense to see through the film’s excesses and actually see it as offering a fairly positive message.
It’s such a shame that the PC mindset has robbed us of the common sense we had those nearly 40 years ago.

Glenn’s talking about how ridiculous it is that the word caused one guy to lose his job and be branded a racist and another guy to get suspended (and also branded a racist) and they’re censoring it out here on The Blaze. (by the way, in my previous post, I only put stars in the word “crackers”. I think I’ll go have some peanut butter and cheese with some crackers now. I’m hungry)

Posted on February 22, 2012 at 12:40amAs long as he doesn’t use the other c word (communism) or (catholilism) or (capitalism). Those are the really offensive words. El Duce might get mad and make another speech.
