‘GBTV Is the Future’: Beck Announces Details of New Live Streaming Video Network

In a story first reported tonight by The New York Times, Glenn Beck, and his company Mercury Radio Arts, are proud to announce the creation of GBTV - a live streaming video network featuring Glenn’s new daily two-hour show and a wide range of original and licensed information and entertainment programming.
The network will be the new home for Glenn Beck and his daily show, which will be expanding to two hours and feature Glenn’s unique fusion of entertainment and enlightenment. Mercury’s own S.E. Cupp and Brian Sack will be contributors to the new show when it launches on September 12th.
For months, Glenn has been teasing a major announcement that would change the way you receive information and entertainment. “GBTV is the future,” said Glenn. “The confines of traditional media no longer apply. GBTV is about getting active in the community, participating in stories, and finding new ways to deliver news, information and entertainment directly to the audience.”
Read the complete news releases here.
On Tuesday, Mr. Beck will announce a first-of-its-kind effort to take a popular — but also fiercely polarizing — television show and turn it into its own subscription enterprise. It is an adaptation of the business models of both HBO and Netflix for one man’s personal brand — and a huge risk, as he and his staff members acknowledged in interviews in recent days.
“I think we might be a little early,” Mr. Beck said of his plan for the Internet network, called GBTV, which will cost $5 to $10. “But I’d rather be ahead of the pack than part of it.”
The business decision by Mr. Beck’s company, Mercury Radio Arts, hinges on an expectation that more and more people will figure out how to view online shows on their TV sets through set-top boxes and video game consoles — and that they will subscribe directly to their favorite brands.
Eventually, Mr. Beck said, his goal is to have an array of scripted and unscripted shows alongside his own daily show, which will simply be titled “Glenn Beck” and will run for two hours on weekday afternoons.

Posted on June 7, 2011 at 9:26amI see that the price will be $5 to $10…. per what? Is that per show, per week, per month, per year or forever? Will there be a trial period to see what the quality of the picture is and how Glenn will change the show? Will we be able to record the show and watch it later? That is what I have done a lot since his current show comes on a 4:00 P.M. in my time zone and I cannot always get home to watch live.
Report Post »I have been a regular watcher of Glenn’s show, but I don’t know if this is workable/affordable for me. MORE INFO PLEASE!
Mr. Erskine
Posted on June 7, 2011 at 10:55amYou can pay $49.95 for 12 months for regular show or you can pay $99.95 for 12 months for GBTV-Plus (like insider extreme only better). I would guarantee that with Beck, the quality will be top noch and worth every penny. Beck has been there, giving the information to bring America back to its roots – this show will be a great extension of his cause.

Posted on June 7, 2011 at 4:39pmDR_Funk………I agree. Ata time when most people are having the hardest times in there lives paying bills, Glenn wants us now to pony up $$$ to get what we use to get on Fox. I understand Beck is in this to make money, BUT gezzz, some of us are working 60hr weeks to just get by. We thought he was going to have a cable channel but now find out it’s a “pay per view” type “online” channel. Thanks but no thanks Glenn. You lost a long time supporter. Can’t tell ya how disappointed I am.

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 3:10pmDelta,
What most of the negative posters here either do not know, or just don’t want YOU to know, is that streaming Internet viewing IS the future of the media. A Roku box is a one time fee (depending on which one you get….it can be cheaper or close to your current monthly cable bill but you only have to pay it once) and it basically turns your television into a really big IPod.
You can use all the same kind of “aps” on your TV that you use your IPod/smartphone for-and more are coming all the time! Facebook, games, movies, news, videos, tv shows (old and current) all whenever you want them-no “TiVo” required.
As this industry takes off-cable companies will die off (or merge into the technology if they are smart) and ALL media will change over. What burns the liberals who are “in the know” the most about this whole thing (and it SHOULD…..those who don’t see it yet are just uninformed) is that Glenn Beck is not only leading the way- he‘s actually going to be the thing that generates a monstrous surge in it’s future development. If even HALF of his fans make the move into the digital format with him, those people will be all the proof future investors need to start dumping money into the infrastructure and programming.
In other words-Glenn Beck is a freaking genius!!!

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 4:57amI listened to Glenn talk about this and he has asked those who can afford the $9.95 a month to pay that and he tells those who cannot afford the $9.95/month to pay $4.99/month. I don’t think that is a lot of money to pay for something you cannot get anywhere else, THE TRUTH. I don’t know any other business that would offer a pay scale like that. I debated whether or not to become an Insider Extreme and after a while I felt I needed to get the other side of the story because I couldn’t really get the story anywhere else. It is disappointing to lose GB on FOX but it would be well worth it $4.99/mo to get it somewhere else. I mean most people spend that amount on coffee and a donut in the morning. I guess it all depends on what is more important to you.

I’m usually a few days to weeks ahead of his shows, but, I also know he and his people have been working on each show for weeks and even months.
Just saying I saw it coming, and fully agree and support him in this!
It is, indeed the future. Cable TV and satellite TV distribution will fade with attrition, as people consume more and more content via the internet. Cable TV companies will receive more and more revenue via ISP services they offer. Satellite? I’m not so sure. I think they will survive for rural subscribers. Even cable ISP services and mobile satellite subscriptions will shrink because of the growth in wireless internet services. For now, this will be from cellular providers.
However, I think if we see a change in tax structure that allows corporations to bring foreign earnings back to the USA tax-free, then we will see Apple and Google join forces and build a new, all-you-can-consume wireless company based on digital fm spectrum that was freed up by the switch to digital television. That spectrum will be auctioned and is able to handle massive amounts of digital data bandwidth!!
Cellular companies will scramble to match it but will not be able to compete due to bandwidth limitations, unless they compete for the same frequency auctions and implement the same technology.
Apple and Google are sitting on TRILLIONS of dollars abroad. That is enough t

Beck has probably accomplished what he has set out to on TV.
The Blaze is really only ancillary to his efforts.
He doesn’t need the money and I bet he determines TV won’t be as effective for sustaining his message as “alternate media” and he focuses on his web site and radio.
He will have a lot more flexibility and control of time that way.
Working for a network might be a bit too constraining for him now.
If he feels strongly that a really big societal change is near, the web and radio might be more effective as he has a lot more freedom there

I am already an insider extreme member so I will just be canceling my cable and moving to all internet television. When I want to watch sitcoms I just watch some hulu or netflix. Posted on June 7, 2011 at 1:33pmSorry but why even listen to Glenn anymore, let alone pay for his show, when he hypocritically touts the Constitution and then laughingly ignores Obama’s ineligibility?
Obama’s Kenyan father precluded his being a “natural born citizen” meaning born on U.S. soil of U.S. citizen parents; he is further ineligible by dual citizenship for being born a British citizen pursuant to the British Nationality Act of 1948.[1]
The Art 2, Sec 1, exemption from being a NBC, “or a citizen of the United States …” wasn’t needed if NBC just means a citizen!
Each authoritative definition of a NBC stipulates citizen parents (plural). First Congress, Ses II, Chp 3, Sec I, 104, 1790: “the children of citizens.” Bingham, House floor, 1866: “of parents not owing allegiance.” Supreme Court, Minor v. Happersett, 1874: “of parents who were its citizens.” Senate Res 511, 2008: “born to American citizens.”
Congress is hiding behind the birth certificate controversy rather than act and jeopardize reelection. Their deceptive dereliction of duty was deftly codified by rhetorically requesting guidance from the CRS on just the birth certificate issue. The expected reply was the infamous Maskell memorandum.[2]
Demand congress remove Obama now!

Posted on June 7, 2011 at 2:26pmI can not believe anyone is complaining about spending less than $10 a month for over 7 hours a day of unregulated programming. I’m sure it will not end with that. Glenn will surely be adding other programs to those who wish to pay for time on his network; and you will get that too.
7 hours a day x 52 weeks a year = 1820 hours of entertainment. Less than $.06 per hour. That is cheap without the specials.
The network was sucking half his hour cable program out with commercials leaving him with 32-34 minutes of program with constant interruptions. I’m sure there will be commercials and a few breaks, but at least there will not be someone turning the camera off while he is half way through making a point. and no break in to programming because someone has something … to say.
I have never watched him on Extreme and not been very satisfied. Sometimes I laugh so hard everyone in the house comes to see what is going on. Every day, I know that I’ve been told what is important in the news and what to expect in the future. I‘ve never felt misled and I’ve never been unable to double check other sources once I heard what to look for.
To dedicated Beck fans who can’t afford it; I’m sure there will be help out there by the time it goes live. Just look around at his website; there are more helpful individuals there than anywhere on the net. A group or Blog will start for those who need it.
Beck is leading the future of entertainment and news. I’m sure there will

Posted on June 8, 2011 at 2:08amI am in sales, and one of the strategies they want us to push is that the add on sales (warranties) “only cost $XXX.XX, and that breaks down to JUST $X.XX per month”.. Well, sooner or later you just can not spend the extra $X per month.. So if gas goes up another $.25 and you have a 20 gal. tank,, A tank of gas last what, about 2 weeks?,, does that mean that us paying another $10.00 per month on gas is not a big deal?.. I see the $5 a month as a loaf of bread, pack of bolonga, and cheese that I can eat lunches on for a week.. And yes, I have the internet.. I have it so I dont have to drive my two teens to the public library twice a week or more for their homework,, I have tried to not have the net, but by the time I paid for gas it was just as cheap or maybe within just $10 a month.. Maybe we should go without the unlimited texting plan for just $10 per month.. Or maybe the 50 extra tv chanels for just $10 per month.. The point is, is that the only people who MIGHT pay for his show are the ones who really can afford it,, If we are even close to not having available funds then GB is not getting it… 44 million are on welfare.. Todays paper said the power company is raising electric by 8%.. My yearly pay raise was a whopping $.22,, Thats not even a cost of living raise.. So basically I am now more broke than I was at last years prices.. WOW, I will make $450 more this year, and Glenn thinks he should get 11% of it?. But we all know thats not going to happen,, If GB wants paid for content then you know all of the content will have a copyright.. And if it is allowed on YouTube then why pay for it?.. So stop with the ploy of trying to reach the youth through this chanel, it is about making money.. If it were not then operating of off comercials and/or donations would be enough… Even the highest viewed GB YouTube clip has only been seen 2.7 million times, and thats from 4 years ago… The highest from this month is only 72,000, so even if it was free it is barely getting to the youth.. And would 72,000 subscribers be enough to stay on-air.. NO…. And what about TheBlaze?.. Does that mean you think we should pay for this as well??.. After all, I would say that 90% of what we would be paying for would be right here on TheBlaze FOR FREE,, along with whats on the radio, FOR FREE… Just stop pretending this is about getting to the youth,, This is about MONEY.. So bow to the green backed god.

C’mon Glenn. I already pay for cable. I cannot afford to watch you on the internet. I’m sorry, just can’t spare the expense. I predict you will lose many watchers because of this. In a time of lost jobs and a down-turned economy, you are charging people to watch you, now? I will stick with your show on the radio. It’s not like I could get home in time to watch, anyway. That time slot was bad for people who work 8-5.

Why in the world do you need cable? I have a converter box and two television sets but cannot get a channel. (One is for VCR, the other is for DVD.) I watch television on my computer, including Fox News.
My phone company keeps trying to sell me on bundling, to include television. Am just fine with unlimited long distance and high-speed Internet. A wonderfully generous friend paid for a year of Insider Extreme, which I enjoy, too. I am told that GBTV will be available on IE. So, I am delighted that there will be two hours each afternoon, instead of one as on Fox News.
And, I wish Glenn Beck all the best in his new venture. He deserves it.

Posted on June 9, 2011 at 12:13amI’ll have GB Tv from my insider subscription. Can‘t say I’ll watch everyday but I’ll try. I do not agree with everything Glenn says but I like how he thinks and how he lays out information and with no Fox guidelines, Glenn is sure to give a good show. As long as he keeps crying to a very small minimum, I’ll watch.
The first company to create a computer tv will win the electronic communication war. Not a tv that needs a computer attached but a computer that looks like a tv and has a tv tuner if you desire. Hopefully soon such tvs will be affordable to the everyday public.
Yes Internet TV looks to be way of the future but it will take some time. This change will not occur over night. Internet regulation has a whole new meaning to Glenn now. Such regulation could be a stumbling block but I think Glenn will work around any problems. Good luck Glenn…
