GBTV Preview: Richmond Tea Party Hit With Audit After Complaining Occupiers Given a Break

Richmond Tea Party Gets Audited By City for Asking for Same Treatment as Occupy Wall Street

[Editor's note: this story is a preview to a segment that will run on the Glenn Beck Program on GBTV tonight.]

Occupy Richmond is quick to accuse corporations of not playing by the rules, and millionaires of not paying their “fair” share. So when the Richmond Tea Party learned that the City of Richmond was permitting protesters to “occupy” public space without paying, the local tea partiers felt it was only fair that the city reimburse them for past rally expenses.

But instead of making sure that everyone played by the rules, the city served Richmond Tea Party with a notice that it was being audited. Not the answer they had hoped for after invoicing Mayor Dwight Jones for reimbursement of the $8,500 they had paid for complying with city procedures during their rallies at Kanawha plaza.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that an auditor with the Department of Finance sent the Richmond Tea Party a letter on November 14 telling the political organization to provide tax records related to its meals, admissions, and personal property, and advising that the group it was being audited for nonpayment of taxes in 2010 and 2011

A spokeswoman for the Richmond Tea Party called the letter “a little coincidental,” telling the Times-Dispatch that it appears to be another example of the city’s unequal treatment of the group.

“What did they send to Occupy (Richmond)? Obviously, there‘s nothing to send to them because they didn’t have (a business license or rally permit),” said Colleen Owens, a spokeswoman for the Richmond Tea Party. “It’s kind of adding insult to injury. We complained about the unequal treatment, and they turned around and piled on more.”

Jones’ office claims the issue is not political. The Mayor’s Press Secretary Tammy D. Hawley told the Times-Dispatch that the Richmond Tea Party was one of about 700 taxpayers that were identified as noncompliant during a recent system-led review. Owens maintained Monday that the Richmond Tea Party had submitted the necessary forms every month for the past two years.

On November 15, the Virginia Right blog posted incomplete invoices obtained from the city totaling $7,000 showing that the City of Richmond willingly paid for toilets and cleanup for an Occupy Richmond “event” at Kanawha Plaza, the same location where the Richmond Tea Party has paid to use for rallies in the past. The blog noted that the invoices do not include what the city will have to pay in “police overtime, health inspector’s time and countless other expenses that we do not yet know about.”

Mayor Jones has not responded to Richmond Tea Party requests to meet in regards to the unequal treatment of their group in comparison to Occupy Richmond. The Mayor, however, met with representatives of Occupy Richmond on November 18, at his invitation.

The city had shut down the Occupy Wall Street encampment after about two weeks, on October 31. But since November 15, the Occupy Richmond protesters have been camping in the yard of Jones’ next-door neighbor, Richmond Free Press Editor and Publisher Raymond H. Boone. The Times-Dispatch reports that Boone, who has welcomed the protesters, was cited last week for a zoning-ordinance violation.

The Richmond Tea Party says they received a letter from the city acknowledging that they had received their invoice. The next response they received was the audit letter.

The Richmond Tea Party has already posted this statement on their website following the audit:

“We are the Tea Party and, therefore, have followed every applicable tax law to this point, including filing all the proper forms. We will file them again, though, to satisfy the audit requirements. But that won’t be the last the City of Richmond hears from the Richmond Tea Party and the American people.

The City is now openly rewarding and financing lawlessness, while punishing and charging the law-abiding. These actions represent the kind of bullying and abuse of power the American people have come to expect from those in office and are now dedicated to stopping. We stand united in holding accountable every last corrupt politician, no matter which office they hold or at which level they serve.”

A representative from the Richmond Tea Party will be on with Glenn Beck on GBTV tonight to discuss their frustration with Mayor Jones’ treatment of their group, and the city’s response to their protest.

How do you fight corruption at so many levels. Perhaps it is time for the good people of Richmond VA to start a RECALL of this mayor for playing favorites. We can’t fight corruption if the good people sit idly by on the sidelines any longer. Time to fight fire with fire. We need to get out of our comfort zone and do everything we legally can to make their lives miserable. The more we yell like they do, “The whole world is watching”, the more they won’t be able to hide behind Obama skirt tails.

How about EveryOne emailing this little obama-ite lemming mayor. Let him know that his actions have not gone un-noticed by America and the payback will be BHO’s slap down and kick to the curb in 2012. Advise him that Richmond isn’t Las Vegas. In other words: Everything that happens in Richmond doesn’t stay in Richmond. America Is Watching and America Always Finds Out! And thank him for doing such a great job of campaigning against BHO and on behalf of America.

How about exposing the corruption, dont waste time with emails and phone calls. These people dont care, but by all means go ahead and do that to crash their email and phone systems! There is no law against it, I mean if all the TEA Parties in decided to call them at once or email them “thats life”! ;)

Think out of the box kids you have to start hitting these people from left field. Lets find out who in Richmond at govt level is in cahoots with the Occupy drones. Who is responsible for ordering the audit? What are their connections etc? Put the spotlight on them I will bet they like most are dirty. It would be great if all the Tea Party members would meet downtown on a weekend and go to every shop and stop and look and examine and handle and refuse to buy ANYTHING! On leaving, apologize to the merchant explaining that this is in protest to the City of Richmond’s treatment and promise to return and shop in earnest if and when justice is done. The Merchants will raise hell! Don‘t think the merchants of Richmond don’t contribute to politicians and someone will have to answer. That’s how you get through all the layers of corruption! Hit them where it hurts: in the pocketbook. Call it an in-store boycott. I know there will be innocent merchants who may be hurt, but there will ALWAYS be collateral damage in any conflict.

Rayblue says, “jzs & Encin….Either you’re too young to act like adults or too old to act like children.” That is correct. I can only speak for myself, but in my case it’s the latter. Just ask my teenager.

Billy, good question. For reference he asked, “Which one of those mindless, faceless, leftist, lemming / drones is you?”

I’m the one in the middle, the one who actually does have some discernible facial features. Originally I was Emmanuel Goldstein until my good name was robbed, then Winston Smith, until I was robbed again. Dang!

The other, featureless people represent the right wing posters here. You know, the ones who go on about this or that person being a communist or a socialist or whatever, and then can’t even be original in their insults. I’m called an “idiot, moron, a slime” over and over. Yawn. Boring!

Anyway, except for that antisemitic tea party guy who goes on about Jews destroying the world, I can’t tell one poster from another. They are faceless.

I get the feeling you just want to hate what you don’t understand. Maybe some balanced research of the Tea Party Movement might set your mind straight.

Seriously, folks, how can any reasonable mind process the vast divide amongst Americans and not conclude that this country will not withstand such a stark contrast in ideologies – something’s got to give.

I’m curious to find out exactly “what” is going to give. Will there be a type of secession? How far up against the wall can those that pay the bills in this country be forced without pushing back? And, when the push-back comes, to what extent? Will they stop “feeding” the machine? Will there be violence and another Civil War???

It is not rational to witness what is transpiring here and expect this country to continue along to the extent that it always has.

They actually work at the communes while these people want sinecures where they high mindedly pontificate about how much they do for the work while working naught. The OWS crowd want slaves. Gain they could form socialist communes. If more & more people continually joined them then it would be the law of the land. It would have been consented to by the people. If I pay the bills of my country I want a say, a real say, in what goes on. We need term limits in Congress. That is abuse of the law that has been corrupted by political ideology and now it is pseudo law, used to hammer it’s opposition into submission. Not that this has anything to do with the Majors actions, but before I confirmed my suspicions and posted this post, I called it: “let me guess the major is Black”.

I guess I do have amazing insight when I can predict the skin color of a Major’s actions even before I know what the mayor looks like. Until we get all these Obama bowers (putting it mildly and keeping it clean) out of office, we can expect this kind of treatment. The people of Richmond need to wake up and quite electing any politician, regardless of skin color, who want to do is suck the life blood out of everyone who does not agree with them and their “messiah” Obama.

Now all you Liberal/Progressive wannabe’s will call me racist, honey if that is the best you got, then Bring It! I always say, “you can call me anything, just don’t call me late for dinner”. The number of socialists in government at all levels is no coincidence. They have been migrating into those jobs since the 60′s. Today, it very difficult to distinguish a communist and what you and I would call an average politician. “Political Science” isn’t called that without reason.

A ‘science’ is a discipline. And the money in “politics” can be far better than a classic science discipline like biology. Those other ‘disciplines’ have seen the money, too. As evidenced by the East Anglican University global warming fraud. And they are jealous.

Non dogma cool aid drinkers will suffer the consequences and the wrath of the almighty powerful who rule their fiefdoms like rulers of old. You remember how Clinton did the same thing with his ‘adversaries’? It’s how government works. It is totally corrupt. And it can’t be fixed. OWS has NO LEGITIMATE grievance against the banks!!

Let’s end this OWS movement once and for all.

How? Unify our position by getting the truth out – Remind everybody that not all banks wanted to be bailed-out, but Obama forced them to take it anyways! – it was to cover up which banks the politicians are favoring, or it was to create the atmosphere that all banks took bailouts, so all banks are evil. This shows that their grievances are with their government, not all the banks. I’ve been talking to the OWS crowd (occupywallst.org ) and every time I mention this, they usually shut up or occasionally go on to say they don’t like Obama either (fine by me, that’s a start). Also you might add – Shouldn’t the banks get their due process of the law before you attack their businesses or occupy (trespass) their property? – they can not argue with this either.

We have the truth on our side, it’s just a matter of getting it heard. Please spread this message whenever possible. Those who continue the OWS movement after knowing this, will be exposed as haters of the rich, not champions of the poor or equal justice.

Remember Stephen Lerhner? Former SEIU exec. who has met with President Obama four times in the first two years. Obama and Lerhner were the ones who started this OWS movement. The Blaze exposed this back in March: Here’s Lehner in his own words (The Blaze video).

Early on Mayor Dwight C. Jones met with and expressed empathy with Occupy. After a couple of weeks, however, the empathy wore thin, they got smelly, and he cleared the park where the Occupiers were staying.
It was around this time that the Tea Party lodged its complaint about unequal treatment. To voice their respective grievances, members of the Tea Party and Occupy showed up at a City Council meeting only to have the mayor walk out when it came time for the groups to speak – a show of disrespect that was lost on no one. Nevertheless, one outspoken member of the Council did agree that the Tea Party should be refunded.
Meanwhile, as they say when the plot thickens…
The Occupy “cause” was picked up by Raymond Boone, the editor and publisher of a local rag called the Richmond Free Press. Boone invited the Occupiers to occupy his yard, which just happens to be right next door to the mayor’s house. Needless to say this has not made Mr. Boone any friends in his neighborhood. He has evidently been served with a couple of violations of community ordinances, and last week an altercation between an Occupier and a neighbor in a truck just missed turning hostile. Occupy is now residing in a secluded suburban out of sight to all but those unfortunates in that suburb.
And, of course, the latest with the Tea Party is the mayor‘s office’s issuing what amounts to a threat in the form of a proposed audit.
    This oughta be fun t

That is another example of “social justice” instead of “equal justice”

    “Social justice” AKA “social control”

So, who are these virtuous people…

Off topic; but I’ve been wondering why the word, “Occupy” was chosen? Same root as occult. Just sayin.

May Mayor Jones suffer the same fate as NY’s Bloomberg. Infestation plague. Richmond’s taxpayers apparently have no problem picking up the tab for the infestors.

Wrong. Bloomberg himself is a infestation. He routinely violates the second amenment and every other one he can find.He is a walking piece of treason in a suit.Mayor Jones is merely possibly corrupt inept definitely silent and sullen. This city has and is infested with corruption. However its also infested with something much worse in some ways.Ineptness across decades and depts. One layer over another.

This is open criminality. That’s why they get into positions of power, to exploit their positions against their perceived political enemies.

They must be stopped at all costs, or we are doomed.
