Actor George Clooney has been arrested while protesting outside the Sudanese Embassy in the United States, MSNBC reports.

The protesters and Clooney accuse Sudan’s president, Omar al-Bashir, of provoking a humanitarian crisis and blocking food and aid from entering the Nuba Mountains in the county’s border region with South Sudan.

Clooney said Friday that he hopes to draw more attention to the issue and is impressed with President Barack Obama’s personal engagement on it. The actor also said that if action is not taken in the next three to four months “we’re going to have a real humanitarian disaster.”

Clooney was joined by his father, Nick, and Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia, among others, as he walked to the protest site. The group held a sign that read: “Sudan: Stop Weapons of Mass Starvation.”

NBCNewYork.com reports:

Police arrested some protesters, including actors George Clooney, during a protest outside the Embassy of Sudan on Friday morning.

Clooney was seen in cuffs with his hands behind his back, being led away from the embassy at about 10:45 a.m. He was put into the back of a police car.

Others joining in the protest were Martin Luther King III, NAACP President Ben Jealous, Rep Jim McGovern (D-MA), and former Rep. Tom Andrews (D-MA).

Clooney, his father, Nick and others, including Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Moran of Virginia and NAACP President Ben Jealous, were arrested after being warned three times not to cross a police line outside the embassy. They were handcuffed and placed into a U.S. Secret Service van.

“I’m just trying to raise attention, because attention is the only way these things ever happen,” Clooney said at the protest, according to NBC.

What pissed me off is the flex cuffs. Those wankers needed double hinged cuffs locked tight and reminded they are human too.     Who is behind the problems in Sudan? Radical Muslims. Everywhere they go they leave behind death and destruction. I’m sick of them and trying to “understand” them. They are barbarians. We have no business getting involved in these African and Middle Eastern revolutions since their definition of democracy is the freedom to elect Muslim theocracies and Sharia Law. If they don’t want to adopt OUR Constitution, then we have no obligation to get involved. We cannot afford to be involved in 2000 years of constant fighting. This is how these people live and want to live. Sad, but true.

      Clooney’s got money..let him throw it away on another African nation that has no chance of leaving the third world. Am I saying not to show compassion? Of course I’m not. But clearly Clooney wants money thrown at the Sudan and money won’t fix the problems of this and other similar African nations. This is business as usual for these African nations. Corrupt and brutal governments, hording and denying food and facilities. You get rid of this one, another corrupt and brutal government takes it’s place. Just another day on the continent. Their own people are their only possible saviours. Until they change their ways, African countries like the Sudan will always be in trouble.

      Here is a question for mr. Clooney. Since you believe fighting Islamic nazis is wrong, what is it you want us to do? Do you think it’s a good idea to send us troops or NATO troops in to start killing 12-14year old Islamic slave soldiers? Do you think going after a particular evil warlord will stop this. When has that worked? You liberals are asking the us to attack all these Islamic leaders, but you don’t want us in Iraq or Afghanistan , what’s up with that?       @COLORADOMAVERICK – This crisis is not “manufactured” as you say. You need to do some simple research on the drought in Africa and the issues with war, drought, starvation, and Al-Qeda backed governments. You might change your tone once you realize that innocent children and people are starving and dying because of this.

      GEORGIEBABY..feel free to write a cheque to any African nation you desire. Sell everything you own to pay for it. Feel free to organize a fund raising venture to make others send money to you to send to any African nation you desire. But don’t ask for the tax payer to do it for you. After decade upon decade of watching Africa wallow in the misery of it’s own making, throwing money at them doesn’t help them. It goes to this corruptocrat or that corruptocrat..this warlord or that warlord but it doesn’t seem to have any effect in credibly changing the lives of the people there. ONLY Africans can genuinely help Africans.

    Okay, Clooney I understand you wanting things to change and on the surface your protest seems like a great cause, buy why is it the governments job or the taxpayers to do something? If you are so upset put YOUR money where is your mouth is. Where is YOUR money in all this. Sorry dude, I am tapped out. I am spending $600 plus each month of my savings to stay afloat. I have a part-time job that ends in May and then will be spending 1600 a month of my savings because I can’t find an employer who will hire a 60 year woman. So buddy SHUT UP, use your damn money.

    Instead of protesting what some foreign leader is doing, which I don’t give a rats ass about, protest Obama to change some of policies that is putting a strangle hold on companies. Raise hell that so many AMERICANS are unemployed and losing their homes; not some poor mountain folk in Sudan. Charity begins at home first.
