The debate over Proposition 8 and gay marriage is still raging in California, where Hollywood celebrities are slated to, once again, take the proposed restriction on same-sex matrimonies to task.
In an effort to raise awareness and to garner support for same-sex unions, George Clooney, Jamie Lee Curtis, Martin Sheen and others are slated to star in “8,” a play which recreates activists’ fight to protect and secure gay marriage.
A description of the play reads:
Uncover the truth about marriage for gay and lesbian Americans. “8”… demystifies the debate around marriage equality by chronicling the landmark trial of Perry v. Schwarzenegger. Learn about the historical context of marriage from expert testimony. See the human cost of discrimination. Uncover the arguments used to justify bans on marriage for gay and lesbian couples. Using the actual court transcripts from the landmark federal trial of California’s Prop. 8 and first-hand interviews, “8” shows both sides of the debate in a moving 90-minute play.
“8” was written by Academy Award Winner Dustin Lance Black, who also penned the feature film “Milk” about Harvey Milk, an activist who is revered as a trailblazer in the gay community. Lance is also member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights (AFER), which was created with the specific objective in mind of overturning Prop 8. The foundation is heavily involved in the production.
Watch the trailer for “8,” below:
The play’s world premiere took place back in September, though the event was a one-night-only fundraiser intended to benefit AFER. This first production had just as much star power, as Morgan Freeman, Anthony Edwards, John Lithgow and Cheyenne Jackson took center stage.
Earlier this week, AFER announced the upcoming, star-studded L.A. event, which is scheduled to take place on March 3. While this will also be a one-time endeavor, more than 40 readings are already scheduled in 17 states across America. Citizens are also able to stage their own readings, as per the production’s web site.
Currently Prop 8 hangs in the balance, as the future of the controversial legislative measure is currently under review.

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 10:06pmSome time ago a politician said to his or her self……I don’t have enough votes to succeed. Thus “gay rights” was born. For the sake of politics, politicians anointed themselves….the custodians of mankind! Politicians took it upon themselves to manipulate the destiny of mankind by creating and declaring war against heterosexual procreating human beings and are using non procreating homosexuals as their soldiers to carry out that war.
So much for what the Constitution of the United States of America, the Supreme Law of the Land, says about promoting AMERICA’S POSTERITY!
Well on the other hand, maybe there is a method to their political madness. Maybe they think that there are way to many constituents for them to manipulate and dominate. Maybe this is their way of killing off an over abundance of constituents that are becoming a threat to them!
Naa! These sick and twisted politicians whether democrat or republican just want to start a class war amongst WE THE PEOPLE and any act that starts a class war is unConstitutional!

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 11:13pmFor some odd reason, I’ve never like George Clooney. Not because they say he’s gay. He just never was my cup of tea and I really don’t like ultra liberal types of people, and he R one. One what, I’m not sure. In fact, having been raised around the Hollywood area, I really don’t like most of those people and how most were rather common then begin to think they are a gift to the rest of us after a little fame. Most never went to college, but think they can teach us something. NOT.

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 7:46pmI spent 4 years working for Child Protective Services of Florida, and 3 years working for youth court system of Mississippi, and if that time taught me anything, it’s that child abuse is unforgivable, and it’s a lot more likely in a homosexual household than in a heterosexual one. I’m sure people will call me names for saying it, but it’s the truth. Homosexuality is one of the worlds universal taboo’s, right up there with murder and incest, once you are willing to ignore it, there aren‘t a lot of things you won’t ignore.

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 6:55pmYes, I understand. But marriage does have a lot to deal with religion unlike simple politics. Which many people see as immoral or disgusting. What I would like to see is gay couples presenting themselves as a way in making marriage and family life better.

Posted on January 19, 2012 at 7:24pmIt’s fairly hard to start a family without a male/female combo…sure adoption os the only way a Gay couple could put together a fmaily (and I’m sure many families of this type are successful) but the traditional meaning of the term (rightly or wrongly depending on your viewpoint) for marriage is the union of male and female to go forth and multiply. This is not man made edict but rather the bassi among every major religion and loose asociation of the ideal the “family unit”. There are certain needs a child requires that has to be taken in consideration. every boy needs a mother, every girl needs a father and vis versa. I have nothing against the Gay lifestyle but by the same token I am not actively out supporting everything hetero. Live and let live and consider some traditions off limits otherwise you risk tearing apart the glue that holds the nation/country together.
