George Zimmerman Back in Florida & Set to Turn Himself in, Lawyer Says

George Zimmerman hearing

SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — George Zimmerman has returned to Florida and will turn himself in to authorities by Sunday’s deadline after a judge revoked his bond in the Trayvon Martin case, an attorney said.

Attorney Mark O‘Mara announced Zimmerman’s return on his website Sunday, saying Zimmerman arrived late Saturday evening. Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of the 17-year-old Martin, was ordered by a judge Friday to return to jail.

The press release on the website said the deadline for his surrender is 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The judge revoked Zimmerman’s bond, suggesting he and his wife had not been honest about their finances. During a bond hearing in April, the couple had indicated they had limited funds. But prosecutors say Zimmerman had raised thousands through a website he had set up for his legal defense.

Zimmerman’s legal team said Sunday that they will ask for a new bond hearing to address those concerns, and that they hope Zimmerman’s voluntary surrender will show he is not a flight risk. Furthermore, the money Zimmerman has raised is in an independent trust and cannot be directly accessed by Zimmerman or his attorneys, according to the press release.

Zimmerman has pleaded not guilty to the second-degree murder charge. He maintains he shot Martin in self-defense under Florida’s so-called “stand your ground” law because the teen, who was unarmed, was beating him up after confronting Zimmerman about following him in a gated community outside Orlando.

Zimmerman’s credibility could become an issue at trial, legal experts said, noting the case hinges on jurors believing Zimmerman’s account of what happened the night in February that Martin was killed.

Zimmerman wasn’t charged in the case until more than a month after the shooting. Protests were held across the nation, and the case spurred debate about whether race was a factor in Zimmerman’s actions and in the initial police handling of the case. Martin was black; Zimmerman’s father is white and his mother is from Peru.

Police in Sanford did not immediately arrest Zimmerman, citing the Florida law that gives wide latitude to use deadly force rather than retreat in a fight if people believe they are in danger of being killed or seriously injured.

The questioning of Zimmerman‘s truthfulness by the judge on Friday could undermine the defendant’s credibility if it is brought up at trial. It also may complicate how his defense presents him as a witness, said Orlando-area attorney Randy McClean, a former prosecutor.

“The other key witness, unfortunately, is deceased,” McClean said. “Basically, Zimmerman is going to be asking the jury to believe his version of the facts. … As the case stands now, his credibility is absolutely critical to the case.”

Jail authorities in central Florida, where the case arose, said Zimmerman had not turned himself in there by early Sunday. He must do so by Sunday afternoon.

Zimmerman went into hiding in the weeks after the shooting and his exact whereabouts since he bonded out of jail remain unclear. It was not immediately clear exactly where Zimmerman would surrender.

Witness accounts of the rainy night that Martin was shot are spotty. There is no video of the fight, though photos released by prosecutors show Zimmerman with wounds to his face and the back of his head.

Zimmerman’s credibility would be important if his attorney, Mark O’Mara, tries to get a judge without the jury to dismiss the charges based on the law, said Orlando defense attorney David Hill.

“If he was in on something that was not truthfully revealed to the judge, when there is a `stand your ground’ hearing, of course you’re going to second-guess him,” Hill said.

Both McClean and Hill said O’Mara would be able to challenge the admissibility of the bond revocation at trial by questioning its relevance.

Zimmerman was arrested 44 days after the killing, and during a bond hearing in April, his wife, Shellie, testified that the couple had limited funds available. Zimmerman took the stand at the hearing and apologized to Martin’s parents.

Prosecutors pointed out in their motion that Zimmerman had $135,000 available then. It had been raised from donations through a website he had set up. They suggested more has been collected since and deposited in a bank account.

Shellie Zimmerman was asked about the website at the hearing, but she said she didn’t know how much money had been raised. Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester set bail at $150,000. The 28-year-old was freed a few days later after posting $15,000 in cash – which is typical.

Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda complained Friday, “This court was led to believe they didn’t have a single penny. It was misleading and I don’t know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie.” The judge agreed and ordered Zimmerman returned to jail by Sunday afternoon.

The defense countered that Zimmerman and his wife never used the money for anything, which indicated “there was no deceit.”

The judge said he would schedule a hearing after Zimmerman is back in custody so he could explain himself.

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for Trayvon Martin’s parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton, said his clients have always said Zimmerman should remain in jail until trial.

George Zimmerman would not have had to have people sending him money in the first place had those people not jailed this innocent man. I despise them and their sorry and cowardly ways. Zimmerman did not belong in jail in the first place. They are just trying to keep from getting sued.

I have a hypothetical question for those protesting Zimmerman’s indictment. Let’s reverse the facts a little. Let’s say that Trayvon was the one armed that night. Let’s say we know from witnesses that Zimmerman was following Trayvon from a safe distance and that Trayvon confronted Zimmerman, but the witnesses couldn’t see what happened after that. When the police arrive, Zimmerman is dead and Trayvon has a broken nose and cuts on the back of his head. Trayvon, a man with an arrest record for assault, tells police that he confronted Zimmerman but that Zimmerman started the fight and he felt in danger for his life so he shot Zimmerman.

Can you honestly say that you would not want Trayvon called into court to explain exactly what happened and exactly why he had to kill Zimmerman?

This case about the funds should not be mentioned by that prosecutor until it is tried. He is swaying public opinion onto Zimmerman. This is a separate thing. That loon needs to be in jail himself. He is about on lousy prosecutor. That bunch of dunces have been trying to deny George Zimmerman equal protection under the law. This case should not be be brought up during his Trevon Martin trial. This should shooting should never have been allowed to go to trial either. They are a bunch of cowards who are using George Zimmer to cater to a bunch of black activists. I think they should all be in jail and Zimmerman freed, at least on the Trevon Martin deal. To ComeonNow – The prosecutor who brought these charges against George Zimmerman should be arrested and jailed for prosecutorial MISCONDUCT. This is an Obama backed witch hunt if I ever saw one. So many injustices carried out by our Federal government – it’s hard to keep track. Meanwhile, Eric Holder still has his job after sponsoring a gun running plot to give guns to Mexican criminals to try to use that to demonize our second amendment and one of our OWN border agents was killed as a result. Yeah let’s worry about whether George Zimmerman provided accurate figures to this judge so he could take ALL of his money instead of just part of it. Yeah that’s appropriate thing to worry about

George Zimmerman is getting railroaded worse in Florida‘s kangaroo court system than anybody I’ve known about so far.

It all started with the fraudulent arrest affadavit by the despicable, man-hating feminist who was appointed to stop the possibility of riots, and as Dershowitz loudly announces, she should be charged with criminal conduct.

The rabid prosecutor, the judge, and everybody connected to this sham court case should be made to answer for their disgusting conduct. I have zero faith in the Florida judicial system after seeing the depths to which they’ll go in order to cover their butts, trying to compensate for the plethora of criticism toward them coming from numerous quarters.

This is their way of attempting to alleviate some of the criticism directed at them by trying to depict Zimmerman as some kind of criminal for possibly trying to get his bond reduced to the point where he could get out of the hell hole he was in. It was a crime that he was arrested to begin with by that worthless b—-h who did so, filing a bogus arrest affadavit.

The Pal article below tells us Europe and the US are headed for economic disaster…FOR CERTAIN. I I hate to say so, but it’s time for it to happen. The crooked system won’t have the money to pay its Gestapos and the Gestapo system and it will enable us to step up and reorganize as we see fit. We will have some judicial procedings and punishment of our own to hand out.

I’ve said from the beginning to wait for the facts to emerge in this case and not rush to judgment. I find it sad that the left is trying to make Trayvon out to be a saint worthy of taking away a man’s life. Too bad the facts don’t support their agenda & narrative. Although, given 0′s past drug use, it is correct that “if he had a son” Trayvon would certainly be just like his daddy at that age.

how in the world is this overreaching ??!? Zimmerman and his wife conspired via jailhouse phone to lie to the court. read the hearing transcript and read the motion to revoke bail. it is based on simple fact. there is no need for pressure from the outside. no prosecutor wants to lose; all prosecutors want to get a conviction. that is their role in our judicial system. that is their duty.

demonic opposition ?!? that is really laughable. a grown man gets in a conflict that he cannot handle – an established pattern of behavior demonstrated by his past assaults on officers and women. well, this teenager may have gotten the better of him. so what happened? Zimmerman had to pull out a gun.

it’s no wonder that this coward is a role model for so many right-wingers. sad, but typical.

demonizing the victim and asking for prayers for the perpetrator is less than pitiful. I would have more sympathy for Zimmerman and his family if he stood up for his actions. if he takes the stand and subjects himself to questioning and cross-examination, maybe he can earn some respect. but lying like a weasel does not help his case.

Regardless of what happened that night (my belief is that Martin confronted him after being followed and things escalated to the point that Zimmerman shot him in self defense–still, could have been avoided had Zimmerman stayed in the car), there’s not enough evidence to convict him of second degree murder..
If he goes to trial and is found not guilty, the judge who who never should have allowed the charge in the first place will be in part responsible for the wave of racial violence that will follow.
Of course, if the judge contrives a way to get Zimmerman back into jail and he is killed before the trial…

Wrong. The judge does not help to bring charges. The judge administrates the courtroom. It is the Grand Jury that sanctions the charges that the DA will bring. Likewise, the DA can also push for manslaughter, so the conviction does not have to turn on 2d degree murder.

The judge has contrived nothing here. The Zimmerman defense has perjured itself to the court. Now the Zimmerman defense will have to explain itself. The only conspiracy here is Zimmerman and his wife lying about finances and his passport.

Before calling yourself CaptainAmerica, you should have a little better understanding about how our justice system works.

On the facts, how did Martin confront Zimmerman if Zimmerman was in his car? Zimmerman originally reported to police that he stepped out of the car to check which street he was on. There are only three streets in the complex – so the truth of this statement seems quite dubious. Likewise, the area where Martin was killed is on a sidewalk between the condos – completely away from the road and any parked car. I’m very interested to hear how Zimmerman explains all of this if he is man enough to take the stand.

Trayvon would still be alive if he hadn’t tried to take on Zimmerman. Obviously the two at some point confronted one another. Zimmerman was officially looking out for his neighbors and justifiably so, there had been thefts in the neighborhood. If Trayvon had kept a cool head things would have turned out very differently. No one wants to address this issue. Zimmerman is not a cold blooded killer. Look at the man, look at his record. Instead the media has gone out of way to mislead. Trayvon beat the hell out of Zimmerman, that’s a fact, and one that media, Owl ‘Crap’ Sharpton and certain others want everone to conveniently overlook. All that’s going on here is a 21 century (modern) lynching of a ‘white hispanic’ and it’s being led by a bunch of blacks all for political posturing.

As far as this bond thing is concerned, it was common knowledge that Zimmerman was collecting legal defense funds when his bail was set. The judge wasn’t aware of that? Everyone else interested in the case knew it! Now some moron is trying to drag Zim’s wife into the legal frey. If 95% of Black Voters Supported Oblamer in 2008 and only about 85% will support Oblamer in 2012, then I would estimated that about 85% of Oblamer Voters support Trayvon in 2012. In other words, the 85% of black voters support Oblamer and Trayvon.

If you think Zimmerman is a murderer, then there is an 85% chance you that you support Oblamer, and anyone with anything resembling a function brain couldn’t support Oblamer.

Sorry it’s about Race, but Zimmerman ( A Hispanic, White, Black registered Democrat) is going to Get Prison time for Self Defense and following the law, in my opinion.

doomytram – “following the law” – as in engaging in a confrontation when he was told by the 911 dispatcher that they didn’t need him to pursue Martin. had Zimmerman waited five minutes for the police to arrive, Martin would not be dead and ZImmerman would not be jailed.

Police departments nationwide concur that community watchmen should not be armed. just like a security guard, they only have the authority to observe and report. yahoos like Zimmerman do not make communities safer.

It is impossible for Zimmerman to have a fair trial at all; especially given the current prosecutorial conduct in this matter of the alleged funds availible to Zimmerman. According to what I have heard on the matter, the defense was given no time to prepare for the meeting in which the DA made his claims.

What pressure is the DOJ and Obama slamming down on the head prosecutor in this case to make sure that Zimmerman is railroaded?

Remember the case of the three lacross players who were hounded and wrongfully accused by a zealous and overbounding DA for supposedly raping a stripper? All were cleared by a federal probe of the matter, and yet people to this day still claim the rape happened.

No matter what, Zimmermans life will always be at threat from the NBPP, due to the open bounty on him to this day.

If Zimm walks away from this a free man, I wonder if he will have a bit of enlightenment, and see the error of his ways as a democrat voter.

Here he is a registered democrat that used to go from black church to black church, handing out flyers because of a young black male that was slain by the police. He was even vocal in his community concerning police brutality. His neighbors chose him to head the neighborhood watch program, because of his character. Recently, he and local police working together were able to thwart burglaries in his neighborhood.

So as a democrat from a multiracial family, who takes a giant dump on him when the chips are down? It is the same folks he voted for, and had an allegiance to.

I bet Zimm has one heck of a wakeup call, and sees what dems are really all about. I hope the Hispanic community sees this, and takes notes. In liberal world, if it comes down between a working Hispanic, and a welfare black, the dems will side black all day long.

That information checks out 100% – three news organizations verified that Mister Zimmerman was actually contacted by the Sanford City Police Neighborhood Watch Coordinator that he would be the Twin Lakes captain of record. The police even advised him to carry his weapon after a dangerous pit bull was reported loose. Pepper Spray is not effective with pit bulls.

The Police Neighborhood Watch Coordinator assigned Miste4r Zimmerman as Captain, and on patrol, a police officer advised the young man that there was a loose pit bull, and told him to carry his legal sidearm because the customary pepper spray does not deter pit bulls before they can maul you.

From the very beginning of the Martin/Zimmerman saga I have only wanted the truth to come out in a fair trial. I no longer believe a FAIR trial is possible for Zimmerman. There are too many groups and individuals who are using this man as a political tool to advance their own personal cause. Justice is now secondary to personal gain.

I feel we must surround George Zimmerman with prayer. All things will work to the good for those that love the Lord and we must pray that somehow GOOD will prevail.

I guess those dems of today are not much different than the dems that fought to keep black people as slaves, started the KKK, enacted the Jim Crow laws, voted against the civil rights acts, and tried to keep the schools from desegregating.

I think this election, we will see a bit of a change in the way Hispanics vote when they see the way the democrats have gone after one of their own. Dems threw out “innocent until proven guilty”. Dems did not blink an eye, when the NBPP put out a literal bounty on the man’s head.

Their funds were no secret SZ told them that RZJ had all that information. All they had to do was call a recess and CALL RZJ. They (The court and prosecutors) choose not to. Why? I am pretty sure it was for this reason. So they could come back and say that they lied. They actually didn’t lie. They gave “lawyer” answers. If you are unsure you say “I don’t know” You never give estimates because that can come back as lying as well. All they had to do was call RZJ.

Also you can’t transfer funds at a bank from your pay pal account. You can only do that through Paypal. Also you can only transfer $500 a month without asking Paypal for more. Just saying.
