George Zimmerman Pleads for Money to Pay for His Defense on the Web

George Zimmerman, by now one of the most well-known neighborhood watchmen since Batman, and certainly the most controversial, apparently believes an arrest is imminent in the case of his well-publicized shooting of teenager Trayvon Martin. Or at least, he’s preparing for the eventuality, since a website recently surfaced – started by Zimmerman himself – which asks for donations to help pay for legal fees associated with the case. The front page of the website contains a short, three-paragraph plea copied below:

On Sunday February 26th, I was involved in a life altering event which led me to become the subject of intense media coverage. As a result of the incident and subsequent media coverage, I have been forced to leave my home, my school, my employer, my family and ultimately, my entire life. This website’s sole purpose is to ensure my supporters they are receiving my full attention without any intermediaries.

    It has come to my attention that some persons and/or entities have been collecting funds, thinly veiled as my “Defense Fund” or “Legal Fund”. I cannot attest to the validity of these other websites as I have not received any funds collected, intended to support my family and I through this trying, tragic time.

    I have created a Paypal account solely linked on this website as I would like to provide an avenue to thank my supporters personally and ensure that any funds provided are used only for living expenses and legal defense, in lieu of my forced inability to maintain employment. I will also personally, maintain accountability of all funds received. I reassure you, every donation is appreciated.

      From what I‘ve read it was self defense for Zimmerman but nevertheless he made a bad decision to push his suspicions as far as he did and now he’s suffering the consequences of that bad decision. If I supported him I’d be advocating what he did – and I can’t do that.

      @Treaty…you don’t know anything about this case except what you have heard by some media source. You and people like you are what is wrong with this country. Why don’t you wait until the real facts come out before you start deciding who made a right or wrong decision. My opinion is that Mr. Zimmerman probably wasn’t left any choice. But right now that is just my opinion.

      “Intense media coverage” is an understatement: the media edited tapes to make it racial, used a photo of 12 yr old Trayvon and an old pix of Zimmerman from 2002 of Zimm in an orange jumpsuit instead of current photo, labeled him a “white Hispanic” (is 0bozo a “white black” or vice versa?). Also, have you wondered about the can or bottle of AZ iced tea? Did dear Trayvon have that in his fist using it as a weapon?

      This isnt about `defending Zimmerman, donating money is all about beating back the media who has already convicted Zimmerman with racial charges and intentional altering of the facts. A donation would smack the medias attack on the judicial system right in the face…. I hope zimmerman can attain $1million in donations by weeks end,… and now, I here, Gunshots have penetrated a police car in sanford. here we go!!

      Really! George Called 911 and the operator told him to stand down. He did not listen and shot & killed an innocent boy who had just returned to the “safety of his Gated Community” with candy & a soda or some kind of drink. And this As-hole killed this young boy. George Zimmerman will be found Gulty of murder. It could have been my son. And if it had been my son he would not be hiding because I would of shot him. And claimed the same defense he is claiming. Zimmerman is nothing but a killer!

      Umm… How do you know that after the dispatcher told him he didn’t need to pursue T. he didn’t turn around and walk back to his SUV, and was at that time attacked from behind and beaten until he shot T. in self defense? ‘Cause that is his testimony and seems to be the police account.

      Hey I know he’s not illegal but he is latino looking and thats usually enough reason for him to be illegal in the eyes of Blazers. Just like Obama is not a Kenyan, muslim, homosexual communist but thats not the general consensus here.

      Any lawyer should take his case against those news affiliates who put him in harms way by those photos that hid his beating and those doctored emergency tapes. He could win some big bucks later on, but I imagine he needs some money now. It should definitely be verified that it him who is receivng this money, however.

    Interesting to note that the Prosecutor is not presenting the case to the Grand Jury. Makes me wonder if she is doing the political thing to make sure that Zimmerman is prosecuted because that is politically correct. I am guessing the Grand Jury would probably not indict which is not politically correct.

    In Chicago this past Saturday, a 13 year-old Hispanic boy was shot and killed and two of his friends were wounded while sitting on their front porch. Two people with masks did the shooting. Where are the calls for justice?

    Zimmerman deserves his defense — it’s a basic tenant of our system — but I think he’d do better with a good court appointed public defender. I wonder how many people would donate or if any high-powered lawyers would step up to do pro bono work on this case. I doubt it.

      In Florida you only want a Court Appointed Attorney, if you want a plea deal. They are real good at getting the the DA to let you plead to a lesser charge. But if you want to get found innocent…

      A vigilante would have shot first and asked questions later. Zimmerman asked questions first, then shot little Trayvon while getting his head beat into the concrete. I believe the legal term for Zimmerman’s action is “self defense”. Little Trayvon should have been taught “sticks and stone will break my bones, but names (or questions) will never hurt me”, as well as the fact one cannot beat respect out of another.

    Could this case possibly get any crazier? I’ve been an advocate from the beginning to let the police do their job and not rush to judgment. And that sentiment prevails.

      Most progressives, unlike right-wing reactionaries, recognize wrong as wrong. Black on black crime, white on white crime, or anything in between. There is a special person called a public defender. They help to uphold our Constitution. He/she will be there to help when daddy has run out of money.
