SANFORD, Fla. (AP) — George Zimmerman was released around midnight Sunday from a county jail on $150,000 bail as he awaits his second-degree murder trial for fatally shooting Trayvon Martin.

The neighborhood watch volunteer was wearing a brown jacket and blue jeans and carrying a paper bag. He met a man in a white vehicle and drove away. His ultimate destination is being kept secret for his safety and it could be outside Florida.

Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said at a hearing Friday he cannot have any guns and must observe a 7 p.m.-to-6 a.m. curfew. Zimmerman also surrendered his passport.

Zimmerman had to put up 10 percent, or $15,000, to make bail. His father had indicated he might take out a second mortgage.

Zimmerman worked at a mortgage risk-management company at the time of the shooting and his wife is in nursing school. A website was set up to collect donations for Zimmerman’s defense fund. It is unclear how much has been raised.

Bail is not unheard of in second-degree murder cases, and legal experts had predicted it would be granted for Zimmerman because of his ties to the community, because he turned himself in after he was charged last week, and because he has never been convicted of a serious crime.

Prosecutors had asked for $1 million bail, citing two previous scrapes Zimmerman had with the law, neither of which resulted in charges. In 2005, he had to take anger management courses after he was accused of attacking an undercover officer who was trying to arrest Zimmerman’s friend. In another incident, a girlfriend accused him of attacking her.

Zimmerman, 28, fatally shot Martin, 17, Feb. 26 inside the gated community where Zimmerman lived during an altercation. Martin was unarmed and was walking back to the home of his father’s fiancée when Zimmerman saw him, called 911 and began following him. A fight broke out — investigators say it is unknown who started it.

Zimmerman says Martin, who was visiting from Miami, attacked him and he shot in self-defense, citing Florida’s “stand your ground” law, which gives broad legal protection to anyone who says they used deadly force because they feared death or great bodily harm.

Zimmerman was not charged for over six weeks, sparking national protests led by Martin’s parents, civil rights groups and the Revs. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. Martin was black; Zimmerman’s father is white and his mother is from Peru.

      Why has the question still not been ask, as far as I can see, “why was Martin in a gated neighborhood to start with?” What was his intentions in that gated neighborhood? Why did he resist questioning in that gated neighborhood? I have not even heard these questions ask.

      HKS -Two other interesting questions are why did it take 3 days for “ ANYBODY ” to claim the body and what were the parents thinking when T. Martin stated showing up at home with expensive dental work and very expensive tattoos. Were was the mother on these issues?? He’s kicked out of school and then just wanders around without supervision of any kind. Like how are you,is the bill for your cell phone paid, where were you for supper, what are you eating,what are you going to do with your life sweetheart you’re a junior in high school., hey mom can I have some money for Mountain Dew and Skittles? No contact for 3 days?

    He’s supposedly innocent until proven guilty, has the entire ghetto crowd gunning for him with a bounty on his head…and he can’t have a firearm to defend himself? Why don’t they just tie him to a telephone pole in Compton as well?

    Too bad the trial will mean nothing. I have a feeling the verdict will be “not guilty” as there is just not enough proof one way or the other that is not disputed…and then, all those people who just want “justice” will riot and make this guys life hell until he dies. Because “justice” is only served if the verdict goes their way.

    If you live in Florida or any other large black community, I’d double the insurance on your house, belongings, car & business…keep your vacation time loose and the moment you hear “the defense rests” I’d get yourselves to Utah or Texas for a week or so. If you are able bodied, prepared and willing to defend yourself…then “stand your ground”…but if not, be ready to travel.

      BTW, I sure hope that was not a paid bodyguard as he was failing big time. Park your car in backwards, let the principle carry the bags so your hands are free, keep your eyes on the crowd and don’t turn your back on them to help him in the car. Zimmerman was a sitting duck in that short walk.

      I really, REALLY hope it was just a gofer from the law firm he is using.

      THE_ALMIGHTY_CREESTOF, Just typed this into the search engine. Boat load of stories about the release, but the other man in the picture is not identified. They did confirm that Seminole County deputies were on hand and that they checked the IDs of each of the reporters and crews before Zimmerman was allowed to step outside.

      That is why the trial and all legal proceedings will be delayed and strung out. Martin was the witnessed aggressor and Zimmerman shot in self defense when his jacked came open in the altercation and reveled the firearm. Martin resented Zimmerman following him to his dad’s fiancé’s home so he could give the police the address for them to go to. Martin came back out of the home and challenged Zimmerman starting the altercation. This info came from a retired Attorney General who was in on the information loop. A year from now it will not be in the hands of a jury.

    That detail, that he was visiting from Miami, was unknown to me. When most people hear Miami, they think of South Beach or of “Miami, The Magic City”. But I used to live in Miami when I was a kid. My parents couldn’t get out of the city fast enough. It is not a good place to raise a kid. I have a younger cousin in Miami and he’s going down the wrong path, getting with the wrong crowd, forgetting school and getting into marijauna. If Trayvon was born and raised in Miami, if he was still living in Miami, then chances are he was not the innocent kid the media tries to say he was. The peer pressure in Miami schools is too strong for black and latino kids. The majority of them don’t have a future. With that detail, that he was visiting from Miami, I don’t have trouble believing he might have been the kind of thug that would throw a man to the ground and bash his head into the pavement. That’s the lifestyle in Miami, unfortunately.

      The fact he was not even IDed in the morgued for 3 days says a lot about his relationship with his parents. They were not abe to probably keep up with him if he was on drugs. These politicians caused all that mess and that Zimmerman to be cruicified for nothing. They should all be sued, those who caused any harm to his case should be sued. The DOJ and the President interefering with the State’s laws and putting a finger on Zimmerman was illegal and they should be sued. I despise what they did to stir up and incite people by not protecting this citizen of the United States who was doing his duty as a community watch. Even if he was not Florida has the Stand Your Ground law. They should be sued. That prosecutor is trying to play big off the back of this man who has done nothing but try to live. This woman and man in the prosecutor’s office should be fired. They are cowards and liars who would sell out anyone to appease and/or get votes. Their job is to seek Justice and that they have not done.

    i don’t see how he survives until a trial. the black community has been so ginned up by the media spin machine in cohort with the race hustlers that they have completely divorced themselves from all semblance of critical thinking regarding this case. it’s all down to emotion and complete hyperbole. all you hear is “he stalked and murdered that child” when there is actually evidence to suggest that is not what happened. when i first heard about this case, it seemed george had given into anger over repeated breakins and picked the wrong person, but having realized there was serious misinformation coming from the media, i took a long hard listen to the original, uncut 911 call and it changed my opinion. with blacks, all you get is “tray was chased” and “white people get away with this all the time and if a black man did this he would be under the jail” when again, we have cases in mississippi, texas, and oklahoma among others where the white perpetrators of hate crimes are feeling the full weight of the criminal justice system. meanwhile, hate crimes against whites are suppressed or ignored in the media and untold numbers of inner city crimes with black victims go unsolved without arrests because of the “don’t snitch” culture. if someone tries to discuss the gang culture that wastes young men in cycles of violence, all blacks want to do is talk about slavery, white pedophiles and atrocities committed by people like the nazis. civil discourse is lost.

      Trayvon was kicked out of school multiple times.

      At least once kicked out for for graffiti. Graffiti is associated with GANGS.

      The reason Trayvon was at Zimmerman’s neighborhood was because his mother booted him out of HER HOUSE after he got suspended for school AGAIN – this time for 10 days for getting caught with an empty baggy that had marijuana in it. So Trayvon was either selling drugs for a gang or himself or taking drugs himself. During his 10 day school suspension – he went to live with his father who was living with his girlfriend who lives in Zimmerman’s neighborhood.

      I do NOT feel one bit sorry for Trayvon Martin – THUG creep drug pusher or his parents. The acorn did NOT fall far from a rotten tree. Read below.

      I think the forces of evil may have made a tactical mistake in this case. I believe the forces of evil that have arrayed themselves against George Zimmerman are the very same forces of evil which have arrayed themselves against the United States of America and will be trying to take down Mitt Romney in November. That is why I think they made a tactical mistake. In coming out of the woodwork, and jubilantly going after George Zimmerman they exposed themselves EN MASS. This Zimmerman case is going to continue on for a good long while and it seems to be returning to Zimmermans favor which means that the forces of evil will not be able to retire from their ginned up war against Zimmerman and will have to remain out in the light AND SOMEHOW that is where we have to keep them, like they have unknowingly STEPPED IN A TRAP and cannot get out and slip back into the evil darkness of the Obama re-election campaign.       of course not. look how effective this type of trash is at killing civil discourse and pitting us against ourselves while the government rapes us of our wealth and liberties. the black community has just about lost its collective mind over this one case because its leaders can call up so many painful historical and cultural threads of the history of race in this country that they can tie every vulnerable individual in their commuity into their groupthink. meanwhile hundreds of black youths have lost their lives at the hands of other black men since this case blew up and the only people out there voicing discontent over it whether these cases get solved or not are the families of the departed and a few local community organizations. certainly nothing approaching the national hysteria being expressed over this case. they have been convinced that it is not justice they should seek as a community, but revenge as per the marxist playbook of their masters.

      I think it was exactly opposite of this case – black guy shot a hispanic guy (who as it turns out had limited mental capacity).

      The media and the race hustlers had a made to order template… a young black man complete with middle school photos, a Hispanic guy that they could say was white, throw in the gun control nuts and it’s made to order.

      We will not hear about the case of the black guy shooting the Hispanic guy for the same reason why our AG turns a blind eye to the NBP voter intimidation, the NBP placing a bounty on someone’s head, and why the AG heaped praise on the likes of Al Sharpton recently….. it does not further the narrative.

      Besides, you can’t declare Martial Law when peace is breaking out all over.

    i’m pretty sympathetic to this zimmerman kid at this point. the underhanded method the media went about lynching zimmerman in public, the racially motivated hysteria whipped up by Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson, barrack obama and the new black panther party, the weakness of the prosecution case and the evidence presented thus far lead me to believe that the kid is innocent and the dark forces to each one of our freedom are conspiring not only against George Zimmerman but the rest of us as well. if they do end up convicting this guy with the evidence they have, it will be a sad day in America.

I would like to add — he has shown more class than all of those against him … he didn’t run (I think he should have!) and he has apologized IN COURT .. he did not have to do that .. and it was met with snarl and vitriol by the lawyers for the parents (why do they need a lawyer?). Watch as Trayvon’s parents and others CASH IN on his death .. Zimmerman seems to be the only one in this case who truly is sorry .. and his life is ruined.

GERALDO is on fnc right now interviewing Zimmerman’s attorney. Geraldo is saying that all of a sudden there is a groundswell of support for Z coming from reverands and pastors and lots of other people. Swelling support. Geraldo is asking Z’s lawyer if he will be able to keep them under control like he thinks there is a BIG lynching coming as this whole thing backfires on blacks. Blackfire. Now that it is on record that the prosecution has no evidence to dispute Zimmermans story of self defense, how can this go forward past Stand Your Ground?

    The D.A. got a little over zealous in pursuing a murder 2 charge. That’s gonna back fire on her & it’s gonna put the city of Sanford in a nasty pickle thanks to her. I see 3 possibilities with this case happening. 2 of them are not good & will probably lead to rioting & violence in the streets of Sanford like what we saw in 1992 with the Rodney King case. 1, the judge possibly will end up throwing this case out the window because of the lack of sufficient evidence to maintain a murder 2 charge. We don’t really know for sure if Zimmerman followed Trayvon Martin or not when the 911 operator told Zimmerman not to. 2, the jury wont be able to give a guilty verdict because the burden of proof is on the prosecution. Beyond a reasonable doubt. He’ll be found not guilty & that’ll be the end of that. Can’t retry him for anything else. She was better off going for manslaughter but she wanted to show she was tough & would pursue such a tough charge to show the Martins she’s trying. The 3rd & final possibility is Zimmerman pleas down to manslaughter & the case doesn’t go to trial. Somehow I don’t see that happening. And when the 1st & 2nd possibilities I mentioned happens, sadly there will be rioting, race wars & we have our lovely President, Sharpton, Jackson, the Black Congressional Caucus & the NAACP to thank for fanning the flames of violence & hatred.

      I think there will be riots if Zimmerman is found not guilty or the charge is dismissed. I think Sanford will be in for a riot. Riots will happen in major cities. If you look at the history of race riots in the US, it is generally the black community and business that is destroyed.

      Obama had a real chance to improve race relations but that did not fit his agenda. Chaos to overthrow the Constitution is his agenda. I didn’t really believe this when I joined the Blaze in 2010. Now I am fully prepared for the land of bad things.

    Geraldo Rivera did a HATCHET JOB on Zimmerman last weekend. He devoted the entire show to Trayvon Martin‘s parents and screaming Zimmerman’s guilty except for a short 5 minute weak “defense of Zimmeran” which was pathetic. Then the show went right back to trashing Zimmeran.

    I noticed Bill O’Reilly told the world last week in front of Geraldo that Brocoff (or whatever that news anchor was) did not like Geraldo and fired Geraldo for being a zealist. WHY DID FOX HIRE GERALDO?

    Sanford, FL is almost 1/3 Black, so naturally there is a lot of crime there. The Zimmerman case will be one in which the rights of self-defense will be pitted against the power of the media and Obama’s federal government. We can only hope that the former will prevail over the latter.

    George Zimmerman is innocence until proven guilty, yet there has been men and women in the USA Congress who have declared him guilty. I have to wonder how they know that he is guilty, since none of them were there. It appears that Zimmerman had actual injuries to the back of his head, and it’s possible that Martin attacked him. We just don’t know at this point. All of us should calm down and let this case go through the Courts. I also believe that the members of Congress who declared Zimmerman a murderer, should face some kind of censure.

      The way the media and politicians have already tried him, about the only place he can get a fair and objective trial is somewhere in the middle of New Guinea.

      The NBP are going to be in a frenzy in the days and weeks to come.

      blacks will be convinced he’s being set free for good. they have also convinced themselves he’s white. i rather wonder how innocent citizens of this country who had nothing to do whatsoever with this tragedy will be protected between now and the trial. i’m sure the lock and load crowd on both sides is salivating.

      OH OH!! While the left and Geraldo is turning a blind eye to George being 50% Hispanic and treating him as a white man (too bad his name wasn’t Jorge – this farce of an arrest would never have happened)

      - your calling him a “boy” will probably raise the hackles of the race baiters who consider Zimmerman Hispanic for the purpose of the BOY racist remark and then switch back to considering him white to further gun control laws and for shooting a black thug.
