George Zimmerman’s Bond Revoked, Ordered to Turn Himself in Within 48 Hours

SANFORD, Fla. (The Blaze/AP) — A judge on Friday revoked the bond of the neighborhood watch volunteer charged with killing 17-year-old Trayvon Martin and ordered him returned to jail within 48 hours.
Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester said that George Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie, misled the court about how much money they had available when his bond was set for $150,000 in April. Prosecutors claim Zimmerman had $135,000 available that had been raised by a website he set up.
Zimmerman‘s wife testified at the bond hearing that they had limited funds available since she was a nursing student and Zimmerman wasn’t working.
“He can’t sit back and obtain the benefit of a lower bond based upon those material falsehoods,” Lester said.
Defense attorney Mark O’Mara said the fact that Zimmerman and his wife never used the money for anything indicated “there was no deceit.”
Prosecutor Bernie De la Rionda described the Zimmermans’ testimony as “misleading.”
“This court was led to believe they didn’t have a single penny,” said De la Rionda. “It was misleading and I don’t know what words to use other than it was a blatant lie.”
ABC News the judge’s decision came after prosecutors filed a motion requesting it. The Orlando Sentinel has more details:
Prosecutors allege Zimmerman’s wife knew about the donations her husband had collected through a PayPal account, but didn’t mention the money at his bond hearing.
Zimmerman’s PayPal account ultimately collected more than $200,000, his attorney later revealed.
“Defendant has intentionally deceived the court with the assistance of his wife,” the motion says. “During the jail phone calls both of them spoke in code to hide what they were doing.”
Prosecutor Bernie de la Rionda told the judge today that “this court was led to believe that they didn’t have a single penny” at the earlier bond hearing.
Zimmerman’s wife “flat out lied to this court,” de la Rionda said. [Circuit Judge Kenneth] Lester agreed, revoking Zimmerman’s bond. He must turn himself in, the judge said.
Prosecutors also said Zimmerman had failed to surrender a second passport, but the judge dismissed that concern as the equivalent of someone who has lost a driver’s license, applies for a new one and then finds the old driver’s license.
Zimmerman is pleading not guilty to second-degree murder and claims self-defense. Zimmerman shot Martin in February during a confrontation at a gated community of townhouses in Sanford, Fla., where Zimmerman lived and where Martin was visiting his father’s fiancee.
The delay in an arrest for 44 days prompted protests nationwide and led to Sanford’s police chief stepping aside so emotions could cool down.
At Friday’s court hearing, De la Rionda and O’Mara also asked a judge to stop the public release of witness names and statements made by Zimmerman to police officers. Those documents normally are part of the public record under Florida law.
“What’s occurring, unfortunately, are cases are being tried in the public sector as opposed to in the courtroom,” De La Rionda said. “We are in a new age with Twitter, Facebook, and all these things I’ve never heard of before in my career. Everybody gets to find out intimate details about witnesses that never occurred before. Witnesses are going to be reluctant to get involved.”
A consortium of more than a dozen media groups, including The Associated Press, asked the judge to ignore the request, saying such records are presumed to be publicly available under Florida law.
Rachel Fugate, an attorney for the Orlando Sentinel, cited the Casey Anthony trial as an example of a highly publicized case in which a jury was able to be seated despite intense media coverage. The Florida mother was acquitted last year of killing her 2-year-old daughter.
“Discovery in Florida has traditionally been open … and Florida hasn’t encountered problems seating juries and giving defendants fair trials,” Fugate said.
O‘Mara said Friday on a website that he doesn’t expect the case to be ready for trial until next year.
O’Mara said he expects to call on 50 witnesses who need to be deposed before he decides whether to file a “stand your ground” motion which would ask for a hearing before a judge without a jury. At the hearing, Zimmerman would argue self-defense under the Florida law which gives wide latitude to use deadly force rather than retreat in a fight if people believe they are in danger of being killed or seriously injured.
Zimmerman was freed on a $150,000 bond in April. He has pleaded not guilty in the death of Florida teen Trayvon Martin.

First off, I’ve never heard he was planning to fleet the country. What I do know is that he turned himself in once charges were filed. If he was planning to leave the country, it was probably because of hatemongers like the New Black Panthers placing a bounty on his head, and he was in very reasonable fear for his life.

Zimmerman put the target there himself when he instigated a confrontation with and murdered a 17 year-old. He does not deserve any mob-style justice at all, but he absolutely deserves to be put through the wringer (legally speaking) for his actions.

She’srunning unopposed this time for office, which is ashame, because we can’t vote her out. The best we can hope for is what Dershowitz said should happen, which is to charge her with criminal conduct.
Her office has been dilligently looking for a way to try to tarnish Zimmerman’s image in order to deflect some of the criticism from her, making it look like Zimmerman is a bad person.
It’s not even clear Zimmerman was aware that donations for legal defense should be consideredas part of his assets at the time he declared insolvency.
This prosecutorial B***ch is on everybody’s payback list in my area of Florida.

Yes, I would bet that much of what I post has folks like you scratching their heads. Yes, I am still competitive for command, but not for promotion. The promotion already happened, and LTC is as high as I will go.
Nothing modern about me, and far from the typical officer. I do not brew my own beer, golf, smoke cigars, go to the Officers Club, live on post……
I prefer to hang out with my own crowd. You never know where you might find me. I have been know to hang out with kids from the toughest projects in Phenix City, Alabama (to include Riverview and the Frederick Douglas Apartments), teaching young males to swim, fish, shoot, work, and be a productive citizen.
I hunt, but do not drink. I hang out with people I can learn from. Mechanics, farmers, engineers, craftsman…. I am not comfortable being with my fellow officers in my off time (with a few exceptions). I do not share their interests in golf, investing, and modern entertainment. I prefer to do competitive shooting, competitive submission fighting (thus the arthritis), NHB, build 4×4 trucks, work with my tractor, garden, hunt large and small game (especially when I can teach kids), and be active in my church.
I am not looking to impress anyone. I am simple, and I live simple. I base my beliefs on a 1611 King James Bible. I am small and not significant in the big picture, and got where i am by the Grace of God.

Posted on June 1, 2012 at 7:51pmATLBlackOps, I’m not aware of any attempts to flee the country, but I do agree that Zimmerman deceived both the court and his donors, and I can’t imagine for the life of me why people are ignoring this. He blatantly “hid” his financial status when it was a key factor in determining his bond.
What this does is damages his character if nothing else. If he went to this extreme to be dishonest about his finances, there’s going to be plenty of speculation that he was also “lying” about the events that led to Trayvon’s death. I’m just surprised that people refuse to focus on the facts, case in point – instead of acknowledging Zimmerman’s deceit, they are ranting about Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton who are not on trial, and violent woulda-coulda-shoulda riots that have not happened, and heartfelt statements made by our President in reaction to such a senseless child murder.
These people are watching this through a well-magnified racial lens…..their minds are already made up that Trayvon somehow deserved to die so they will ignore the simplest of facts and accept whatever justifies the killing, and hate in their hearts.
There will never, and I quote NEVER be a murder case involving both blacks and whites and the nation be unified in its stance. Anytime a little blond girl is murdered, or an old white grandma or grandpa blasts their own kin, white people will (collectively) award them a medal. Just a bit tired of a nation that keeps running PC down our throat. The whole Martin/Zimmerman would not even be news, if it were not for the leftist media making something out of nothing. Had Zimmerman been black, no one would hear of this case.
While some who do not know me, may think my comments racist, they are real. We have droves of second and third generation thugs, raised on welfare, passed on through the education system, raised on gangster rap music, instructed in multiculturalism, where they think they are owed something.
The prisons and jails are full of them. People will quote that they are 12% of the population. I disagree. Blacks may be 12% of the pop, but a large chunk of the black population, are working a job, and pulling their own weight. It is the welfare crowd (regardless of color) that commits the crimes.
I have no use for the stupid meth brewing, white trailer trash, red neck crowd that thrives on welfare, and commit crime. The difference is that this crowd does not get a free pass from the left wing media.

So if the judge esteemed that, what does it matter if bail was not set much higher? Is it the duty of the court to squeeze Zimm dry or give him a fair trial? Maybe someone here can enlighten me. I don’t get it.

I attend a church that has a very mixed population, and our song leader is a black man. My last church was known for its aggressive bus ministry into the poorest black neighborhoods in Columbus, Georgia.
Now for the part you just do not understand. The democrat party has a long history of racism. they fought to keep the blacks as slaves, Dems were responsible for the KKK. Dems voted in the jim crow laws. Dems voted down the civil rights acts started by republicans. A good number of dems voted against the 64 civil rights act. When dems saw they could not stop Thurgood Marshall, and his success in courts, and could not prevent the black man from voting and being productive, they (LBJ and crowd) came up with a new plantation. The libs initiated the PC lies, promoted separate standards, and subsidized the ghetto. They destroyed the black family, by taking away a need for a strong black man who is a husband and a father. Now we have droves of young black thugs, raised without a real man, educated in the multicultural liberal schools, indoctrinated by vile, violent, anti woman, anti moral rap music. concerning the conspiracy theory, let us look at some facts.
When in modern history, have we had a president, who throws out comments about local crimes and such? Obama is the one that stated Treyvon would look like his son if he had one. He weighed in on one side of the issues, and it happens to be the same side as the MSM and the rhyming reverends.
Do you remember when he threw in his opinion about the cop that arrested the smack talking professor (that was a friend of Obama)? Obama came out looking like a fool, and we found out the cop had an impeccable record, and not a racist bone in his body. We also found out that Zimmerman is a democrat, he was active in his community, and was known to push for equality for black people in a case of violence against a young black male who the cops shot. He was also active in stopping burglaries in his neighborhood. After Obama’s comments, we also discovered that Zim had cuts on the back of his head, and a broken nose. Also found out that Martin had THC in his system, and a past history of getting caught with burglary tools on him at school.
Let us not forget the OJ trial, where the feds had an interest in seeing him innocent. They believe there would be nationwide “Rodney king” style riots in major cities if he was found guilty.

There was not suggestion by the prosecutors that Zimmerman was preparing to leave the USA. Zimmerman was not being ASKED to return to the court as a flight risk. If he were perceived as a flight risk then the prosecutor would have asked that Zimmerman be immediately picked up and returned to the court. Such was not the case. The article is unclear about the ‘second passport’ it sounds to me as though Zimmerman had a USA Passport “A” and he misplaced it. He at some time in the past obtained a replacement Passport B. One is told on the issuing of the replacement Passport that the first passport is now ‘void’. Seems more like the prosecutors grand standing to get media coverage.
It is also odd that the prosecutors claim that the Zimmermans were ‘speaking in code’ about the website donations. If you knew your calls were be recorded might one try to have a conversation that wouldn’t be splashed in the media headlines and it not be an effort to deceive anyone? Exactly how did the judge and the prosecutors ask the Zimmermans about the financial status? When did the Zimmerman donation fund begin? If it was open at the time of the bail hearing, how much was in the donations fund? Did the Zimmermans under the stress of the events swirling around them and in the community view the ‘donations’ as their personal assets like a bank account, car, house — or as separate from their PERSONAL holdings?

My quick writing and lack of spell check (often) and grammar errors would be more of a reflection on me, and not the education. My master is in education, and is from an SEC school.
Preaching is a calling that I do not feel I have. I will most likely give about three more years to uncle Sam. Sam paid for my two degrees (undergrad in CRJ and Pre Law). I may work law enforcement, as I think I would enjoy it, or I may try to teach public high school. I think I would have a bit of conservative flavor in our failing education system.
yes, I have arthritis in my back and bad knees. Yes, I have 25 years in, with five being an enlisted grunt, and the rest as an Infantry Officer. Yes, I also have arthritis in my hands and elbows are shot from the submission fighting. Doc claims that overuse issues with the hands can be attributed to the continuous gi fighting, where you grip the opponent’s uniform.
No one that I know of jumps a 100 times a year. I have just less than 100 jumps and over ten years on airborne status. Jumping heavy loads and landing on tarmac runways can be a bit tough on the bones. Yes I live off post, and I wish I got 120,000 a year. I am much closer to the 100,000 mark.

Or are you forced to carry your own laptop to the PX Café every few hours (what a bummer- treated like smokers in Government buildings)?
Is the policy restricted by rank? For example you exhibit extraordinary maturity and restraint on this site, but foolish young solders might not. Plus they might be swingers looking for porn or gays looking for underage recruits.
I would not approve of Government assets being used to access porn (unless released by AFRTS).
Is there an Army or DoD policy that restricts members from accessing Porn sites? Seems like young soldiers could easily be hacked, by Chinese cyber soldiers or spies… No?

If you had a job like mine, you would have pulled a 15 month tour in Iraq, and a year in Afghanistan, not counting some of the short trips. All of that in just a four year period. Those were not staff jobs either, and much time spent outside the wire, to include the Shia uprising of 08 and the surge in Marja.
The military has changed since you were in back in 72. Every soldier has a smart phone these days, and the majority have computers in their rooms, along with cable TV. Life is different than when I first came in, and we lived in open bay barracks.
No, you cannot surf just any old site from an military computer. Non legal sights to include porn and gambling are blocked. In the sand box, there are internet cafes set up for Joe. he can check his facebook, skype back to Momma, check his e-mail, do his online banking.
From a DOD computer, you can check your personal e-mail, and yes, you can read the news. I hit them all. I read more huffpo than anything. Can also check the blaze, fox news, MSNBC. Most officers stay abreast of current topics in the news.
Most of my blogging is done in the evening, or early morning. I am quick at typing though, so I have no problem pecking out a quick blog response at lunch time, or a quick brake with a diet mountain dew. I would bet I can gin up a paragraph or two in fewer than two minutes. Partly the blame for the spelling and grammar errors.

It seems this is more of a political issue rather than issue of justice. But you want to invent other reasons: Francis Priven and her thugs strong armed both the prosecutor and the judge, or Soros bribed someone to follow up on Zimmerman’s perjury in court, or Obama exerted the power of the Presidency to make sure Zimmerman’s lies resulted in the revocation of his bail.
Sure PERP, go for it. But my view is that when you in court on a murder charge, you don’t lie under oath to the judge, especially in a way so easily proven as a lie.
But if you do, and the judge catches onto your lies and your bail is revoked? Well blame liberal!

Zimmerman and wife said they had little available – to add to that? The bond was set at 150,000 in April – still over what they had by a long shot. The DEFENSE admits ULTIMATELY there was over 200,000 – in April or NOW?
I question whether the attorneys are playing games here. It would not be a big stretch to see an attorney playing down a figure to the court to make sure they got their fee. Yes a total supposition, but I reiterate —- this story is unclear in it’s timeline and who did what to get to this decision.

The entire case has been mishandled and manouvored! It became a circus when “not-to-Sharp“ and ”Jerkie Jackson” got into it, became a carnaval when Pres “O”no tried to weigh in, and is now a disaster on the way to happening.
I don’t believe that Zimmerman was “running” anywhere! But considering the number of people, includinng highly and poorly respected people want him railroaded, I can understand as monies came in for his defense (after the bail hearing in no doubt!), making sure that that money did not “disappear” in the courts of little to no accountability! A “original copy” passport (if replaced with another), which is invalid due to being replaced, would be difficult to use to leave this country as when scanned, the numbers would kick it out.
I believe that Zimmerman is concerned for his safety and possibly his life, and the court system is just showig him that he has reason for caution.
May we citizens of the United States of America remember that we are a country of laws, not of personalities, and may justice be both blind and fair throughout!

Z specified that the money would be used only for his legal defense and living expenses, since he has been forced into hiding. As one expert attorney notes, “You will need money for your legal defense fund. Criminal cases can last several months to a year or more. You will need the best lawyer you can afford. CNN and FNC didn’t report it for about 15 minutes after MSNBC. I guess the prosecutor called the Martin families attorney and he called (of course) MSNBC first.

You can rest assured that I have all three though. I’m also not a racist, but I’m not going to condemn Zimmerman as a murdering racist based on some NBC altered 911 tapes. I’d like to see all the evidence before I make my final conclusions, but right now its not looking good for the prosecution, considering all the injuries Zimmerman suffered.
