Georgetown’s Policy May Cover Contraceptives After All

Evidence has now sufficiently established contraception poster-woman Sandra Fluke specifically went to Georgetown University to protest their policy on contraceptives. In her testimony, she blames this policy for leaving friends with genuine medical ailments to rot out all because the college has an excessive concern over policing its students’ sex lives. Or does she?
Fluke‘s testimony contains a notable passage which calls her entire story into question regarding Georgetown’s policy on covering contraceptives (emphasis added):
A friend of mine, for example, has polycystic ovarian syndrome and has to take prescription birth control to stop cysts from growing on her ovaries. Her prescription is technically covered by Georgetown insurance because it’s not intended to prevent pregnancy. Under many religious institutions’ insurance plans, it wouldn’t be, and under Senator Blunt’s amendment, Senator Rubio’s bill, or Representative Fortenberry’s bill, there’s no requirement that an exception be made for such medical needs. When they do exist, these exceptions don’t accomplish their well-intended goals because when you let university administrators or other employers, rather than women and their doctors, dictate whose medical needs are legitimate and whose aren’t, a woman’s health takes a back seat to a bureaucracy focused on policing her body.
Georgetown’s spokeswoman did not return repeated requests for comment regarding which forms of contraceptive use are, in fact, covered by Georgetown’s insurance policy.
Cynical observers may remark that this shows the degree to which Democrats rushed Fluke forward as a witness without vetting her. It is not clear that she is even an expert on the effects of contraceptive bans at Catholic universities, despite this being the main reason she, and not a national pro-contraception mandate leader, was called to testify. At best, this statement makes Fluke’s personal connection to Georgetown dubiously relevant. At worst, it calls her entire speech into question.
UPDATE: Even for those students who can’t get Georgetown to cover their contraception, there is still hope. CNS News reports the following item:
CNSNews.com confirmed, however, that the Target store at 3100 14th St., NW, in Washington, D.C., which is 3 miles from the Georgetown Law campus, offers Tri-Sprintec, the generic form of the birth-control pill Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Target sells a month’s supply of this birth control pill for just $9 to individuals without health insurance coverage for the pills.
A CVS pharmacy only two blocks from the Georgetown Law campus also sells a month’s supply of the same generic birth control pills for $33.
Tri-Sprintec is an FDA-approved prescription drug and is the generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. The Physician’s Desk Reference (PDR) says it is for: “Prevention of pregnancy.” It is also decrease the risk of ovarian or endometrial cancer and, for some women, to fight acne.
The total cost of these two drugs over the course of a three year degree in law school is between $300 and $1200, depending on which pharmacy one buys from. At worst, that is just slightly more than one third of the estimate in Fluke’s original testimony, again calling into question the expertise of this witness.
Editor’s note: Buzzfeed has picked up on the part of Fluke’s testimony that stood out to us. You can read its story here.

[Quote] “If it feels good do it…let everyone else pay for it…”
Such is the way of Ba’al, and as to why our system is collapsing today. It is a direct relation to the vast majority of people who can care less of the impact they have on others’ lives so far as the results benefit theirs. We are sharply heading to the point where 51+% pay nothing into the system and directly benefit from it. Nor do they care that we are going bankrupt in the process.
Instead the progressives warrant their “needs” with pointing to ho insignificant amount the impact is on all these social programs. However, when you add this across large droves of leeches, the costs quickly stagger to epic proportions. And the burden is being passed to only the honest tax payer (which are ones that end up still paying taxes after adjusted for the annual return. Some of the (currently) 47% that do not pay taxes, think the actually still do because it was withheld. However, when your return is more then you pay in (even adjusting for embedded taxes in alcohol, cigarettes and gas), your are living off the system. A single mother with three children making $20K a year, will get $13-15K in Earn Income Tax Credit. This adjusts her wage to $35K a year… Why ever look to work harder for the additional $15K? Do you see how this stagnates productivity?

I agree partly with both of you.
We are being used by the progressives to seem ill-informed and extreme. Our positions are extreme only in the fact as the the direct opposite of the progressive agenda. We need to stop being afraid of their labels and names though. Our job is to not stammer or doubt our positions. We need to clearly explain our position that choice is exclusive to the individual making it. Any hindrance on choice by other PRIVATE parties (group or otherwise) offering a good or service can limit a choice based on their choices. It is the basis of freedom. I want to offer a car without AC, then I should have the right to offer the type of car. It is not the position of Government to say that due to heat exhaustion and extreme heat, I must offer AC. It is the position of the buyer to make a choice whether they would like to buy a car with no AC with and understanding of the cons of not having AC.
The progressives are simply muddying the waters by calling us uncompassionate. However, we feel that the Progressives are uncompassionate to those that want to have liberty to make their own decisions (Good, Bad or Indifferent). What matters is each individual accepting personal responsibility for their own actions. I think the issue comes when we resort to name calling. There is a double standard, but we have to be the better of the two sides by not resorting to their childish games. Otherwise, we are no better than them.

Posted on March 6, 2012 at 1:16pmJOHNNYMIDNIGHT….let’s be honest here. In November all the voter will be concerned with is the debt, his job and his paycheck. This is all just noise. It’s slowly getting out there that Fluke is 30 years old and a feminazi who demands others pay for her abortions, sex changes and contraceptives and who makes up numbers as she goes along. This won’t matter in November. It’s just the left trying to seize anything to deflect from the high gas prices which are killing Obama right now. Adding to that, finally it’s filtering into the public conversation that Obama actually wants high gas prices to inflict pain on Americans and force them to consider his “green” agenda. You really think a militant feminazi matters to most Americans? Let the left play their games. This will be over with in a week. Limbaugh knows this also.

And let us be honest that most voter will be selfish in only looking at there individual debt and what others (not themselves) add to the national debt. What Fluke proposes, and the progressive agenda really is about, is removing personal responsibility and placing the burden of individual existence on society. It is never the voters fault, it is the system (which the progressives created).
Each flaw our system has is rooted in telling people they are not at fault and it is someone else’s. We (Americans in majority) only vote what effects us personally. We knew of the Social Security issues with $90 trillion in unfunded liabilities for over 30 years. However, everyone talks of keeping the system intact. You even think about touching it or medicaid and the elderly flip out.
Let’s really be honest and admit that each persons dependency on Government/Society/Others taking care of their own (the individual’s) needs. It is the road to serfdom and the bane of freedom and responsibility. Every little issue adds to the big picture. You, as in we, can’t afford this. People need to be productive in order to increase supply to met demand. At least in Capitalism the choice exists. In Socialism, the choice does not exist and fascism is one step away as force will be needed to met the status quo.

Again, this is just noise. These are the kinds of distractions the left feels compells to seize upon because Obama’s record is abysmal, his job approvals at terrible levels and they‘ve got no answer to the real problems on Americans’ minds. I guarantee you, a 30 year old feminazi begging for handouts is the last thing anyone will be thinking about at the polls in November. Take a look at what MONACNE just attempted as proof. The facts behind Fluke tell a very different story to the story Media Matters wants the media to sell of her right now. Fluke is a 30 year old (read: well and truly an adult) feminazi who’s demanding anyone but herself pay for everything from sex changes to contraceptives while touting made up numbers to curry sympathy. This is not what Media Matters trolls like MONACNE want being discussed. It‘s the image they’ve fabricated of Fluke they want out there..not the truth. Actually, Sarah Palin has been called many things by Bill Maher and the left. Not once has it turned the die hard progressive women and independent voters from his Progressive, Democrat support from women or moderates. Heck, look what he said about Elizabeth Hasselbeck.
So Rush is not the only person to cross that line. If fact, Bill Maher excuses his behavior based on people being public figures and on the fact it was a joke (though intentionally meant to harm the person). Bill Maher does not apologize, nor does the left ever hold him accountable.
Or like when the Roots played “Lying Ass Bitch” when Michele Bachmann walked on stage. It is evident that the progressives do not like the conservative female, hell, or the moderate ones that support freedom and personal responsibility. At least Rush admits he crossed that line and apologized for his actions. You will never get that from the Roots, Bill Maher, or any progressive. If you are going to hold him accountable for the Republican candidate, but not Obama for his “Team”; you would come across as being hypocritical.
Otherwise, the independent woman vote is really a joke and votes solely one what they personal get from politicians and not what is vital to the nation as a whole. Now any smart independent woman would know that Rush does not speak for everyone, nor does he, or people who comment here, represent the Republican or TEA party.
