Georgia Middle School Assignment Depicts ‘Positive’ Aspects of Shariah Law

Ga. Middle School Assignment Depicts Positive Aspects of Shariah LawA Georgia middle school adjusted its lessons after a father complained that his daughter’s homework assignment promoted Shariah law.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, the assignment was supposed to teach students at Campbell Middle School about the pros and cons of school uniforms. It featured a letter from a woman who said she is “proud and happy” to be Muslim and to completely cover herself in public — and also that her husband could take another wife rather than divorce her if their marriage gets rocky:

“My name is Ahlima and I live in Saudi Arabia. … Perhaps two differences Westerners would notice are that women here do not drive cars and they wear abuyah. An abuyah is a loose-fitting black cloth that covers a woman from head to toe. I like wearing the abuyah since it is very comfortable, and I am protected from blowing sand. … I have seen pictures of women in the West and find their dress to be horribly immodest. … Women in the West do not have the protection of the Sharia as we do here. If our marriage has problems, my husband can take another wife rather than divorce me, and I would still be cared for. … I feel very fortunate that we have the Sharia.”

“I thought this was absurd,” parent Hal Medlin said. “[The teacher] was trying to compare Islamic rules of dress and how they compared to school uniforms, which I thought was a stretch. The principal and the [superintendent] agreed with me … but they wouldn’t agree with my premise that it put Islam in a positive light because of the [statements].”

Medlin, who described himself as conservative, found the statements on polygamy particularly egregious: “I understand that some Westerners condemn our practice of polygamy, but I also know they are wrong,” the assignment said.

“It’s promoting or positively depicting their belief that polygamy is fine, if that’s what they believe,” he told WSB-TV. “But I don’t know how you could possibly state that and not have any kind of disclaimer that this is what these people think, but not necessarily what all of us believe.”

Another part of the assignment lists the requirements for women’s clothing according to Islam, including that it cannot resemble the clothing of non-believing women and must protect women from the lustful gaze of men.

It states, “Islam liberated woman over 1,400 years ago. Is it better to dress according to man or God?”

“It represents Islam in a positive manner. That doesn’t offend me as much as the fact that it represents no other religions,” Medlin said. “To me, this material is being used the way it‘s used is like tearing a page out of text book and saying here’s the whole story.”

But Sharon Coletti, the founder of InspirEd Educators and the creator of the material, said she does not understand Medlin’s objection.

“This particular sequence is a two-day social studies lesson. They read this letter and then examine stereotyping. The next lesson is a compare and contrast on the role of women in the Middle East,” she told the Daily Journal. “Yes, the Muslim girl stereotypes Western women, but are there ways we stereotype Muslims? I have no idea what the objection is.”

“It’s important for kids to have some empathy for other people in the world. Some people think we’re trying to teach their children to be Muslims, and that could not be more ridiculous,” she said.

According to the Daily Journal, the teacher has since adjusted the material for the lesson. Dale Gaddis, a district area superintendent, acknowledged that it could have been taught in a better way but did not entirely discount the material.

“Teachers may select materials that aren’t always the best, which is not necessary in this case, but within the adopted materials, they have choices that they can make with how they present certain items,” Gaddis said . “It was in range of the teacher and the course, which had to do with the eastern cultures.”

islam is evil to the tenth power. we in the west have no idea what to do about it. unless it is stopped using all the things we say we hate i.e. discrimination, we are going down. to continue to allow mosques to be built as if they were baptist churches is foolish. muslims will kill us when they reach critical mass. how big does that mass have to be, 5% of the population, 10% or more??? no one knows. what is known historically is that it will happen.

Here’s an excellent example of mind control techniques and how successfully they can be employed against weak-minded people, just as they have been utilized throughout the West.

This women happily accepts honor killings, stoning and limb amputation for infractions to sharia law, as well as her inability to drive a car, seek out an occupation for herself, and a ban on education for women. Not being able to vote and allowing her husband to beat her are also obviously o.k. with her too.

Years of brainwashing, mind control, and propagandizing are responsible for inculcating this acceptance in her to the point of happiness to be under sharia control.

Hasn’t the same been done in the name of political correctness here? It has, of course. Everything and most have been placed under its control by master seditionists who eventually gained converts among the gullible and naive who developed their rainbow utopian philosophy of love and tolerance, because it made them feel good, until they far outnumber the seditionists now.

Whether it’s love and tolerance designed to crush the white power structure or homosexuality designed to include people with mental illness in society, it is no different than a female fool duped into accepti

Actually, I live in the county of Cobb (where this school is located). Trust me when I say we are a rather conservative lot. Kudos, to the eye of this parent to catch the subtle attempt to slant the material.
While Cobb County Schools, on the whole, produce very well educated children, in recent years this (creeping political correctness) has been an increasing problem. Parents in our county are keenly aware and involved with their children’s education and I venture to say that issues such as this are rarely left unchallenged by someone. But, sad to say, Cobb County each year is becoming more and more urban in both physical and political ways. My children are all out of Cobb County Schools now and off to College, I would be remiss not to give our school system their share of the credit for their collegiate success, but at the same time, I am concerned for the classes coming behind them. I can only hope that somehow our fine system can stave off the creeping PC and restore itself to it’s rightful prominence in our State.

Sadly it’s planned in young fertile minds to mature and grow, while the old weeds of proven ideas i.e. Constitutional Republic, freedoms, etc are replaced and burned.

These so called educators don’t even understand that by teaching the positives (yea right) of sharia law, they will be bound by it as it slowly creeps into the US. Somehow they think these muslim nutjobs will spare them, worked well for the idiot hikers in Iran. Teach your children what respect and chasity is and you won’t have to worry about it. Covering them from head to toe in a table cloth does not reduce rape it reduces women to objects owned by men. If women are allowed to stand up to men as equals and men are not sexually repressed as they are in the middle east, there would not be a need for them to blow thenselves up because they think that is the only way they will EVER have sex.

Apparently, your “renegade” assumption is correct. This material is Coletti’s own “creation.” In other words, there is no “Ahlima.” Coletti wrote the alleged letter, herself.
And she is the founder of InspirEd…
      http://www.inspirededucators.com/About_Us.html
so, it’s doubtful that the school will admonish Coletti, even though she deserves it.
At the very least, I hope that the parents of her students will demand that she undergo a thorough psychological evaluation, if she is to continue teaching middle-school students.
Because, even if her sole purpose is to afford her students “the experience” of the strange, middle-eastern cultures –
that might be fine, in a college setting.
However, adolescent students are far too young and impressionable for the level of “experience” Coletti is teaching.
And I think that the fact she’s doing so, speaks volumes about her own level of maturity.

It’s not stupidity. It’s moral relativism. And it’s strategic. Thing is, the classroom IS the best place to address this: to study something objectively, you NEED to suspend value judgment, but ONLY for the time you’re studying it for what it CLAIMS to be. After you understand how shariah THINKS it ticks, you have the understanding to demonstrate why, OBJECTIVELY, it’s wrong and none of the students should choose it.

Happy, that would be nice, but it’s never the case in this day and age. The schools teach that all cultures are equally good, equally valid. We have no right to “judge” other people, so our children will never learn that a woman under Sharia Law has no rights as we see “rights” here in the Western world. They will not hear of the women stoned because they were raped or the women killed because their father believed they “shamed” the family.

I happen to live in Cobb County, GA and am surprised at this. Overall, we are a fairly conservative district. But this just goes to show that parents need to be vigilant. I’m glad this dad raised a fuss.

Aw, jeez! It just goes to show that if you aren’t diligent, they’ll slip in whatever the cr@p du jour for a liberal education they can. I got upset over PJ day at school – fortunately, that stupidity stopped after I made my case known to the principal, teacher and other parents. I hate to think what my head would do if I found out this was going on.

It is teachers and administrators like this that are driving more parents to home school or find charter schools that focus on American values. There are an increasing number of empty school buildings (some of which are being sold to charter schools) as American parents take the education of their children away from the public schools and indoctrination by NEA anti-American influence peddling teachers.

TANK the problem is it is flying and it`s flying nation wide. The Muslim that sits in the White House supports Muslim Outreach. We should be sensitive to the Religion Of Peace And Love. We as a nation are in serious trouble of loosing our way of life.

Proud to wear a shroud for the rest of her life? Proud to be the subject of possible abuse and not be aboe to get anyone to believe it, because she is a lesser human being? Proud to be excluded from her children’s life? Pound to see the possibility of one of her daughters possibly murdered because she talked to a Non-MOOslim? These women are victims, if I ever saw any. Victims of the institutionalized brain washing dictated by the MOO lahs to keep women in their places and out of the social or political arenas.

AMEN!! The worst part..this started off as a discussion about school uniforms. The Libs have this crazy desire to bend over to muslims…I don’t get it! Wasn’t it muslim exetremists, Sharia believers that crashed those planes on 9/11? Thought so! Why not choose AMERICAN school districts that use UNIFORMS and compare those districts to some that don’t use uniforms? This is out & out brainwashing our kids into accepting shariah as normal…Stop it B.!

The women of the middle east are told where to go, when to go, who to go with. They can’t drive, vote, go out alone or be seen with a male that’s not related to her. If she gets raped by a rapist a male relative will kill her. Hell yea that’s what I aspire to be when I grow up!

Islam liberated women 1400 years ago? Boy, are they in denial. This is what happens when a portion of the populace is brainwashed. If your marriage is on the rocks, fix it. Don’t take another wife and just “take care” of the other one. That right there states that women are property. When a man gives a dowry for a woman, he’s buying her “private parts” and can do with the rest of her what he wants.

Eh, you should probably read up on the history of Islam a little.

Islam was actually a very liberal religion hundreds of years ago. While it treated women as second class, they at least treated them as people unlike other religions who treated them as livestock at best or things at worst. Women were even allowed to teach which was unthinkable in other areas of the world.

The roots of Chemistry and modern Mathematics also lie in the middle east, we’re using Arabic numerals even today.

Doesn‘t mean that women’s rights aren’t pretty much screwed in large parts of the middle east today. But change is happening, women are rebelling in quite interesting ways. You should read up on that too, it’s actually pretty damn interesting. Just leave your comfort zone for once. Knowledge doesn’t hurt.

Erabin – yes, I know about how Muslims and Christians and Jews all got along once upon a time, in a few places.

But it’s not been like that for a very long time. What happened a really long time ago isn’t relevant if what is happening now is evil. And vice versa.

And we all know what would have happened if this had been Christian material; ACLU, NEA, and all related groups would have filed suit against the school system.

Yes and put an end to the Christian crap also. I think the assignment was probably to teach tolerance of others beliefs, but hey we know right wingers do not do tolerance.

Why a re the right so involved in their Shariah law ******** at the same time waving their bibles at pubic town hall meetings? Or trying to pray under the flag at public schools,, or trying to bring their Christian non science creationism into the class rooms?

This is very stupid, how does this assignment relate to school uniforms? It would be ok in an section comparing different cultures, side by side, but as a stand alone lesson, it indeed does endorse shariah and the subjugation of women by Islam
