Georgia Refuses Ku Klux Klan’s Application to Adopt-a-Highway

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation has declined to accept a Ku Klux Klan group’s application to join the state’s “Adopt-A-Highway” program.

The International Keystone Knights of the KKK in Union County applied last month to adopt part of Route 515 in the Appalachian Mountains. In a statement Tuesday, the agency says “promoting an organization with a history of inciting civil disturbance and social unrest would present a grave concern” and could “have the potential to negatively impact the quality of life” of people in the county and state.

Organizers said they wanted to preserve the area’s scenic beauty, but critics balked at the move as an offensive publicity stunt.

The state’s program enlists volunteers from groups and companies to pick up trash, and volunteers are recognized with a sign along the road they adopt.

If you substitute white for black in much of what Wright has said, it would be as bad as anything the KKK has said. I’ve done it and pretended it was some Klan kinda name, like “White Riders of the South” or whatever and everyone will want the culprit arrested.

How the mighty have fallen. They used to run the south. Struck terror. The black maid would ride home in the back seat, not beause you wanted to but because it wasn’t safe.

Now, they’re jokes, pathetic losers everyone laughs at.

Yeah, put ‘em on the side of the road but only if they wear their white gowns with those red cross things that look like a bullseye.

Georgia had no choice since the NAACP didn’t turn in an application. It would have looked bad with just the Clan. The Rev. al Shaptoung said, “It was a form of slavery since the workers were not being paid.

The Klan is still around? It must be like 3 guys in a basement somewhere. And they are all cowards. Every day I see the Black Panthers on TV. I’ve yet to see a Klansman marching around in sheets. Especially now that Senator Robert Byrd (D) has died!

The sad thing about the KKK is the perception among many is that they’re Christian. If they were Christians they would be grounded in love. Unfortunately for their souls, they hate Christ, Christians and identify more with Baal, atheists, and Muslims… any pretend religion as long as it’s not true Christianity.

If Christ were walking the Earth today instead of ruling from Heaven, He would choose to dine with them the day after dining with the tax collectors and if they didn’t repent… kick the dust from His sandals.

This may be a free speech thing but it’s an idea that has been tested in the minds of millions of Americans since its inception as the strong arm of the democratic party and has been found to be lacking.

Listen, I’m not in favor of much of what the KKK stands for but this is a free-speech issue that needs to go to the Supreme Court.

I could not agree more, this is a free speeh issue all the way. I think the kkk is a vial and disgusting organization, and can’t even believe they are still around, but we are not a country founded on free speech…..as long as people agree with you.

“I’m not in favor of much of what the KKK stands”

… wow. I’m not in favor of ALL of what the KKK stands for. The fact that you agree with any of it is truly telling of your character.

And it’s not a violation of free speech. The group has a history of physical violence and is in many ways a terrorist organization. No one has a RIGHT to join Adopt a Highway and if the state deems it necessary, they have a right to deny someone admission. Anything requiring an application must also have conditions that make an applicant ineligible. In this case, it’s violent racism.

Grant the KKK the stretch of highway, but deny them a sign. It is not a right to have a road sign.

I am reading some of the comments that say Georgia doesn’t have the right to do this. You may be correct. However, perhaps if we used a little common sense. I don’t want the KKK with a prominent sign on my highways, just as I wouldn’t want the NBPP sign either. Enough division, let’s start uniting America.

That ain’t going to happen my friend! You see,it’s OK to hate,as long as your hating the white male & humping the white female to claim your prize. That is just how it is. It will only get worse as time goes by & whites don’t start demanding this crap stops. If whites won’t stand up for themselves,do you really think someone else will?……NO!
Oh & BTW,the KKK is as dumb as they come, they hate Jews but love Jesus? How is that possible seeing that Jesus was a Jew?

That would have been the filthiest stretch of highway in the country. People would drive out of their way to dump trash there. Then the KKK would have demanded that police keep an eye out for littering, tying up MORE tax dollars to keep a cop there 24/7. This would have just snow-balled into a huge mess.

Does this mean they will also deny any application the NAACP makes to adopt a highway? In my opinion, they are not too far apart. They both are raciest fear mongers.

The Knights of the KKK has all the rights to adopt a high way just like the GLBT Groups and the Non-White groups and other groups. The KKK should have this right and if Georgia does not let them have this right to make the state a beautiful place then they should take the state to court.

      “Criteria
Any civic-minded organization, business, individual, family, city, county, state, or federal agency is welcome to volunteer in the Georgia Adopt-A-Highway program. Each volunteer group must have at least six members, with three backup members. All members’ names, addresses and phone numbers will be provided to GDOT prior to acceptance of the application. Children aged twelve to fifteen years must be supervised by adults at a rate of one adult for every three children. Children under the age of twelve are ineligible for participation in the program.”

Still can’t find a listing for organizations currently involved in the program.
