Get a Sneak Peek of Apple‘s Proposed ’Spaceship’ Headquarters in Calif.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs gave a presentation to the Cupertino City Council yesterday about his company’s new proposed headquarters. And would you believe that he described it as a “spaceship?” He did. And the pictures show he’s not that far off.

It looks like “a spaceship just landed there,” Jobs told the council, according to Business Insider.

BI has some details of the building, which Jobs said will hold 12,000 people and is circular with “not a straight piece of glass:”

  • The campus would use its own natural gas generator as its primary source of power and the city’s power grid only as a backup. Weird.
  • The building includes an auditorium for conferences, and Jobs suggests that’s where Apple could hold its big events instead of renting out space in San Francisco.
  • Apple wants to break ground next year, and move in in 2015.

The outlet also put together a slideshow of Job’s presentation that shows what the sprawling facility will look like:

Apple is a company that produces products & offers services people want. I wish them well with their ugly building. They are paying for it themselves to me that is the most beautiful part.

Are the contractors who are building the new office American contractors or are we letting the 3rd world countries come here and build for us because we are above manual labor now? Just sayin!

Boy, some of you Blaze folks sure are cranky. If you don’t work there or live there, what do you care what it looks like? It’s being built by a private company with the profit *gasp* they made by selling a product millions of people want to buy. Cupertino wins with tax revenue. If you don’t like Apple, don’t buy one. Lots of people do and they buy them. Last time I checked this is called capitalism. Yes, the country‘s collapsing but that isn’t the fault of Apple’s new building. Go outside and play. Get some sunshine. You’ll feel better.

      @BEn
I am surprised so many like apple due to its enormous profit margin. Larger than some big oil co’s out there.
With that being said, why is big oil sooo evil and apple’s success so great.

Kinda different, but doesn’t seem very practical.

How do you get from one side to the other?

Is there parking all the way around, or do you have to walk 1/2 mile to get around to your office?

I don’t Know about them Being in Chine as much as they use a company named Foxconn that practically treats it employees worse than slaves, so much so the workers would jump off the building to kill themselves. seriously it got So bad the company installed safety nets between the buildings so the people would not get hurt if they Jumped.
While all companies use Foxconn for parts they all don’t use them to the extent that APPLE does!

You beat me to it: I thought that this is what the Pentagon would be if they built it today. Although I think Jobs should have his head examined: building a glass structure in California; earthquakes and ‘soaring’ energy (air conditioning costs – and perhaps (haven’t read it yet) unhealthy ‘green’ building).

Imagine what all Apple would do if they were ALLOWED to bring a trillion dollars back to the US from non-US earnings!? WOW! They could build a nationwide wireless communications system based on the vacated TV frequencies (from switch to digital TV) They could provide unlimited data plans, super high bandwidth, low prices, etc. It will take that kind of capital to do it, but, right now they would be taxed on those earnings even though taxes were paid abroad.
The greed of our own government is what is stopping businesses from growing – govt is in competition with businesses. This was NEVER supposed to be the case. This is NOT what the founders intended. This is NOT what we need!
