Epic Vid: Giant Spider Battling Snake Caught on Film (Arachnophobes and Ophidiophobes Beware!)

In most cases, pitting a spider against a snake would be a no brainer of which would win. In fact, the snake would most likely ignore the spider and slither away to find a mammal or bird to prey upon. But it really depends on the spider. Add some toxic venom and amp up the size of the arachnid and you have a more worthy adversary.

(Photo: Ant Hadleigh via Cairns Post)
We can see just how it plays out thanks to a man from Queensland, Australia, who saw a giant spider battling with a snake in a friend’s backyard. Australia’s Cairns Post reports Ant Hadleigh said the struggle between the brown tree snake and golden orb spider took a little over an hour:
“I thought it was pretty incredible,” Mr. Hadleigh said.
“A few times the snake managed to get up and attack the spider, and the spider would run back up the web.
“I would have put my money on the snake for sure, especially seeing how big it was.”
Watch the battle (Warning: Those with arachnophobia and/or ophidiophobia might want to avoid):
Both the animals have venom, but it was the snake who succumbed first, according to the Cairns Post.

No, Soldiers are not blood suckers. They can’t join the SEIU. They fall under a much higher standard of conduct, (UCMJ), and they don’t cry when they have to work nights, weekends, Holidays, or are sent to a third world country to fight for YOUR freedom while getting shot at!
Now go back to HuffPo to read and comment on the liberal propaganda you take as truth.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 7:32pmNEPENTHE, not only was your comment not very well thought out, it was plain stupid. Members of the military aren’t considered government employees. They aren’t considered employees at all actually. They are left out of the employment count, whereas government workers, the blood-suckers, are counted. Do you honestly think he was calling our military members blood suckers? Nice try with the gotcha-gotcha game, but like I said, stupid.

Posted on April 21, 2012 at 12:40amWhile it true that members of the military/veterans are not Federal employees, that does not mean they are not bloodsuckers. As a VBA employee (benefits side, not healthcare) I can assure you that numerous veterans would shame the average welfare requester. Many of claims I see would make you sick – the garage that these veterans claim/appeal is beyond reason. As a veteran with over 26 years service (both enlisted and officer) I feel feel the need to call these clowns out. Veterans are no different than the populace – after all, they came from the populace. So while 47% of our populace decides to mouch off the other 53% – our veterans do the same. It’s very, very sad.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 1:31pmI really really really dislike spiders. Ok, ok.. I run squealing from the room if they’re big enough. Snakes, not so much for some reason. I don’t mind little orb weavers to help control bugs in the yard, but inside is my domain. And a spider THAT big? -=shudder=- If I saw that, I’d be gleefully torching my back yard to get rid of it! The first time that I saw one of those head sized banana spiders in Florida, I about choked a poor kid half to death as he went running by me and almost plowed into the web. I reached out and snatched him by the collar before he could. I thought his parents were going to kill me until I pointed out the web and spider. I mean, how can people miss giant Halloween decorated spiders with skull shapes on their bodies and fangs that you can see from multiple feet away?
Report Post »Ok, so I know that having a fear of spiders can make them stand out more, but wow. Get your hand away from that thing!

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 2:28pmSnakes don’t really bother me, BUT spiders I do not like. Every last one of them is venomous. Snakes are easy enough to avoid, But spiders. Black widows are everywhere where I live, Found over 20 of them living between the rocks of a raised bed garden I had made. When working outside or in a shed or basement be careful where you put your hands.
Report Post »MyzPhoenyx
Posted on April 20, 2012 at 3:22pmArizona. That state has far too many black widows for me. I was a life guard when I was a teen and got sunburns sometimes. I used fresh aloe from my mom’s garden to sooth the burns. I went out to get a piece one day, and even though that garden was being worked every day.. one had made itself a home in the middle of one of the aloe plants. I was NOT happy, ran for the bug spray, then realized that I couldn’t use it in the garden.. then ran for my mom. I also chased one down with hairspray one time, though. I’m a science geek and I had heard that if you kill a black widow that way, then freeze it, the hourglass would stick around, but if you left it out, the hourglass would fade. I wanted to see for myself. I got the one to freeze, but didn’t have the guts to go rummaging through the wood pile for another one after that fight. They do NOT like hairspray.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 11:42amAh, Australia. The land where almost every critter, great and small, can mess you up. It’ll take the Sci Fi Channel about a week to throw a movie up around this scenario. Man, they have the art of making horrible movies which you can’t take your eyes off of down to an art. Throw in a has been celebrity from the late ‘80s or early ’90s and you’ve got cinema magic.

Posted on April 20, 2012 at 12:14pmLol yeah no kidding. Australia has a lot of nasty creatures.
I love the bad science fiction flicks they do on the sci fi channel heh. It functions more like the comedy channel for me. I enjoy laughing hysterically when the moments in the movies pop up where the situation is just so ludicrous it’s insane, or when the acting is so bad you actually feel embarrassed FOR them.
It‘s like time has stood still and it’s still the 1950′s.
