Giant Waterspout Spotted in US

A rare waterspout hit the westside of Lake Michigan Saturday. Residents of Chicago and Milwaukee metro areas could see the funnels 2 to 5 miles away from the shore according to the Grand Rapids Press:

“Cold unstable air and warm water, creating a 25 degree temperature difference, were the two important ingredients that came together Saturday, the National Weather Service said.

The conditions produced ‘a rare outbreak of waterspouts stretching from off shore of Milwaukee, south to the Chicagoland area,’ the NWS Milwaukee office said.”

Waterspouts are seen all the time on Lake Erie. Not at all unusual.

I used to watch them from my high school near Buffalo, NY. I saw three of them together one morning. The east end of Lake Erie is a good place to see them.

Never fear – if it got too close to landfall, a quick call to congress would TAX it out of existence…

About 25 years ago I was boating down in the FL Keys and I witnessed about 6 or 7 waterspouts at simultaneously around our boat in all directions. Needless to say boats from all over were hightailing it back to shore. We were so close to one I could see the motion of the water inside the funnel traveling upwards. Got a nice photo of it too.

Good thing you made it back safely. At least with water spouts you don’t have to worry about debris.

Wow. Those spouts must give off a lot of mist near the shorelines. Must be refreshing and cooling. We like to dream about that misty coolness down here in South Texas. The only thing we see a lot of are dust devils.

Are you happy the protestors are getting sprayed with pepper spray?…i thought you were a libertarian,
what about the first amendment. Are really that intolerant of other people views that you would advocate for the use of brutal force against people who exercise there RIGHT “to assembly peaceably”
and address there grievance with government in a peaceable way. Glenn Beck exeggerates the threat that the protestors are. You may not agree with them but they deserve the same constitutional protections you do…

Adophis.. Peaceful protestors?? Peaceful is how the Tea Party behaves.. those in NYC are not what I consider peaceful at all.. screaming obscenities and threatening people is not peaceful. Brutal force is needed against brutal people. You really don’t think they would pepper spray peaceful people do you, if so you are delusional!

Interesting. Great shot of the waterspout. Weather all over the U.S. has been pretty active this year. Not due to global warming as that is a bunch of lies. Plan on seeing more of the same as time goes on. Get prepared with family emergency kits, food, water, medical supplies and more. Store as much as you can wherever you can. Just makes sense.
