Gibbs Brushes Aside Wiki Threat: ‘Not Scared of One Guy With One Keyboard and a Laptop’

Remember when Press Secretary Robert Gibbs tried to downplay the midterm elections as a referendum on jobs?
Well, Gibbs is at it again, this time refusing to recognize the danger of the recent Wikileaks dump of classified documents. Instead, he wants everyone to believe Wikileaks is only “one guy, with one keyboard and a laptop,“ who ”popped down $35 and bought a web address.” And because of that, Americans should not be afraid.
The comments came on this morning’s “Fox and Friends” after that shows hosts pressed Gibbs on why the president hasn’t addressed the Wikileaks issue:

Maybe the next time he gives a briefing he will be wearing a cape & mask. THE DEFENDER of justice. Right! Part of a team of fearless leaders that want only to destroy , I mean save this country from the evil conservatives. Posted on December 2, 2010 at 1:33amWhat I don’t get is, why are so many conservatives jumping on the prosecution bandwagon for this guy.
Did he bribe somebody to get these documents?
Once he had them, he was under no obligation to keep them private.
He is not a terrorist.
On the other hand, if he did bribe somebody, that would be a crime.
Until he embarrassed the state department, he was one of Soros’s faithful minions.
I know, back when he exposed the military stuff, many conservatives were calling for his head; and, it’s consistent to continue doing so now; but, even back then, I was not clear on what he did that broke any laws; and, he didn’t directly (or without warning) expose anyone to danger be releasing the information; so, his actions were focused on exposing corruption and issues, rather than just sharing actionable classified information with our enemies; as, he was accused of doing.
If he bribed people to get the information, he should face time for bribery, like anyone else.
If he didn’t, then, where’s the beef?

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 1:40pmI wouldn’t doubt that Carl Rove is behind all this, after all who is more practised in dirty tricks to make the president look bad. Obama is the best president the United States has ever had, so the Republicans have to resort to dirty tricks like this to create the illusion that he is doing a bad job. The reason you people don’t have jobs is because big business found out it can make even more money if they layed off lots of employees and worked the ones left even harder. The latest quarter reported record profits for big business.

As an example, (and sorry to change the subject) I have been trying to reconcile Bill S510 in my brain. Are they just that power hungry or is there something we do not know. Have they gotten recent intelligence suggesting a terrorist attack on our food supply is immanent and therefore needs major oversight? Could Obama’s indifference on these leaks be because the information within the documents could lead to major public outrage forcing and allowing him to take yet more of our civil liberties? There is always more than meets the eye. This is a chess game where each move is planned WELL in advance.

Maybe Gibbs can fool the average American, but we know better. These document dumps are a major embarrasment for the Obama administration and they have the potential to not only waeken us around the world, but may end up getting people killed.
I wonder how Gibbs would feel about a document dump that included all of his personal financial info, and notes that the Secret Service has in his file about how he got busted as a teenager for drugs or that incident with his neighbors underage daughter. Then to top it off, the info dump includes all the same info on every person in his family, including that embarrasing issue with his Grandfather. Gibbs would be having a nervous breakdown and demanding that this be stopped.

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 2:04pmRush had an interesting point on the Wikileaks topic today:
Nobody’s going to lie to its own cables (meaning they’ll spin, lie and deny in public, but everything going back to Washington is presumed to be the God’s honest truth.). Everything in the cables coming out of the Middle East says Israel & the Palestinians aren’t the major problem in the Middle East, Iran is.
So why does the American Left constantly harrass Israel for being the biggest problem in the Middle East when everybody in the Middle East knows they’re not a threat, as is evidenced in the wikileaks dump?
My answer: Despite all the rhetoric they shout, spit, or projectile vomit at us about hating everyone who doesn’t look like us, the Left is now and always has been the real home of racist hatred in America. Period.

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 2:10pmMy feelings on the wikileaks issue is running contrary to the majority on this site. I welcome any responses.
Report Post »The wikileaks should be published. I have not found any evidence of actual harm to any person due to the docs being published, but i have had a bit of satisfaction seeing the bigwigs squirm. I don’t like the government, I don’t like the lies and obfucations that we are being handed…but am in love with the truth. If it takes something like this to help our situation, I say,“publish”. Our way of life has been co-opted and our integrity has been corrupted. Let’s take the United States to confession, and pray for forgiveness. I, personally, don’t put much stock in our leaders…any of them. They are all from the school of “get what you can.”
If it is God’s will, the nation will make it through. But it won‘t happen if we don’t get ‘straight’. LET US GET STRAIGHT.
The economic solutions are going to hurt and badly, so are the moral solutions.

As O’Reilly pointed out, the problem is that we MUST have the cooperation of other countries in numerous endeavors, such as fighting terrorism, sharing intelligence and so on. But if the people willing to put their lives on the line for us no longer trust us then they will no longer help us. We nned their help as much as they need our help, so for that reason alone we cannot allow this type of information to get out. The 100+ Afghan citizens who were such a tremendous help to us over there are now in serious jeopardy because their names were published in these documents. That should be enough reason not to want this stuff out in the open.
