Gingrich Defends Romney Attacks During Frustrating Fox Interview

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich defended his attacks against rival Mitt Romney’s record as a venture capitalist, hotly debating the issue on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” Thursday.

Romney’s time as the head of equity firm Bain Capital has come under attack on the campaign trail, primarily by Gingrich and fellow contender Rick Perry who have sought to paint him as a heartless executive.

Though Gingrich’s segment began calmly enough, its tone quickly changed course when the subject was broached, with the former House Speaker insisting he wasn’t attacking the capitalist system — and not allowing the show’s hosts to get a word in edgewise.

“When you have a circumstance where they made a lot of money and the company went broke, it’s legitimate to ask the question,” Gingrich said. “That’s not an attack on capitalism, that’s not an issue about the whole capitalist system. That is a question about a very particular style of activities — we’re not talking about the system, we‘re talking about somebody who’s running for president of the United States and we’re asking a question about his judgment, his values, the choices he made.”

“But Mr. Speaker you are attacking the essence of capitalism,” Fox News’ Eric Bolling said.

“No I’m not,” Gingrich interjected.

“Venture capitalism is taking risks,” Bolling continued. “Bain Capital took risks on companies that likely may have failed had they not taking the risk. Sir, just allow me –”

“Wait a second, you don’t even know,” Gingrich interrupted. “You have no evidence, you have no proof, they are a totally private firm, they have never explained what they did.”

“But that’s what they do sir — I’m no fan — ” Bolling said.

“I don’t have any question about the general process of entrepreneurial conservatism,” Gingrich said. “There are a series of cases that don’t look right. And I’m saying, for a guy to run for president, use his record as the basis for running, and then tell us we’re not allowed to ask about his record?”

As Bolling tried to ask a follow-up question, Gingrich pressed on, not allowing himself to be interrupted. Bolling attempted a series of fruitless interjections:

“Sir let me follow that up — but, but sir — Mr. Speaker, let — ”

But Gingrich continued speaking, not stopping until the hosts were forced to cut him off to go to a commercial break.

First of all, let’s be frank: Glenn Beck, Jim DeMint, or Allen West would be FAR BETTER than anybody in the race at this point! And of those still in, Santorum is clearly the most trustworthy.

That said, at some point, Republicans need to stop pretending this serial abuser is going to stop beating them with brass knuckles! An attack on Economic Freedom is an attack on all Republicans. The Angry Pillsbury Dough Boy Must Be Stopped!

I‘ve never seen such a ’Progressive’ sore loser/spoiler candidate in GOP history…except for Mike Huckabee. Gingrich is the Mike Huckabee of the 2012 GOP Presidential Primary.

And since the real goal is to beat Obama, so we have a chance to restore America, and the only guy to beat Obama head to head in any poll is Romney, it would make sense to reject an Angry Pillsbury Dough Boy who is doing the Barack Hussein Obama Regime’s dirty work for them. If the GOP is the party of dishonest Marxist attacks on economic freedom, it’s time for a third party.

I’m not fond of the circus being played out, but the media and the RNC is doing everything it can to protect their chosen one. Newt is right on principle in that if Romney wants to run on his record, let the record be scrutinized–like it has been with Newt. (and by the way I’m a Santorum supporter).

What we‘re watching unfold is the same thing we’ve seen for years; the candidate has been chosen and the party espects us to fall in line with thier “wise” choice. We really must send a message this year that we will no longer be led by the nose, and NOT accept a liberal masked as a conservative just because he says a few conservative things on the campaign trail.

Good For Newt! Someone Needs To Shake The Fake Faces Off Of Romney.

Why Are So Many Against Vetting Romney And Getting The Truth About Him Out There?

That Love For Being Blind To The Truth is what got BHO into office and just look at what we’ve got there. BHO and his empty promises, ad nauseam, and too many blind sided folks bought it all, hook, line and sinker.

Newt has his warts and we all know what they are. Romney’s doing a very artful job of keeping his warts hidden. I’d rather have the guy who has openly lived and learned, =s Newt, than the guy who is hiding and who we know nothing about =s Romney!

Ron Paul is an evangelical Christian:

Dr. Linzey later stated, “Among the six remaining GOP hopefuls, two are evangelical — Ron Paul and Rick Perry. But the tell-tale sign of being qualified for the presidency is not faith, but loyalty to the Constitution which defends the open expression of faith. Ron Paul seems to be the candidate most loyal to the Constitution according to the records. So when other evangelical leaders endorse GOP contenders of other faiths and traditions, some of whom have received funds from special interest groups, and are not as loyal to the Constitution as is Dr. Paul, one must necessarily ask, ‘What is their agenda?’ because they certainly are not endorsing the most qualified nor the most evangelical. If evangelicals wish to make faith an issue, then they should take a closer look at Dr. Paul’s statement on his web site, ‘Let me be very clear here: I have accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, and I endeavor every day to follow Him in all I do and in every position I advocate.’”

It gives me great pleasure to watch Gingrich destroy himself.

Romney, Paul, and Santorum will move forward, while Gingrich hangs on only to attack Romney. He will effectively split Santorum’s vote and make this a race between Romney and Paul. At this point, I can only see Romney or Paul taking this away. Or, maybe that is just wishful thinking on my part…

As Newt’s first two wives know, when Newt wants something, he is utterly without principle. He claims to have changed. He hasn’t.

Newt, the angry attack muffin, is willing to attack free enterprise, he is so ticked that he is not winning. He doesn’t care if he gives aid and comfort to the Marxists who want to demonize profit and destroy economic freedom. In fact, there is another good “domestic” analogy here. Newt is like the spurned husband who is willing to murder the wife who left him, because if he can’t have her, nobody can.

Good on ya’ for a great post.

Look, America & the biased media CAN’T have it BOTH ways.
Wash the hypocrisy from your hands-
you can’t complain about Obama, not being properly vetted
and then, whine & accuse, when Willard Romney gets tested.

Obama & his Chicago Slaughter House
are going to carve up & grill Romney….he will NEVER withstand the gutting process.
      He will NEVER be elected.

Roll Tape, it’s all out there to review-
remember, good folks & political & media phonies,
it WAS Willard Romney & the RNC who went after Gingrich FIRST.
      They set the precedent,
Gingrich wanted to concentrate on the issues
and they pulled him in their dark, RNC alley and roughed him up.
Now, Romney & his thugs are whining & cryin’ foul.

Gingrich has every reason to fight back….no holds barred.

      Chatsworth Osborne Jr. Romney
hires out bullies to do his work,
so he doesn’t have to walk away with barely, a bloody nose.

      He’s a fibber, he’s a libber…he’s as phony as Obama !

About stature, Gingrich, with wit & wisdom said,
“God didn’t want me to be a gazelle, he wanted me to be a bear”.

Look at that statement as a double entendre, America-
Gazelles are fast, fleeting & pretty
Bears are strong, steadfast & powerful.

      For Commander-in-Chief-
Give me a BEAR anyday, anytime……a bear like Churchill !

Get wise, America…Go with Gingrich…he’s the only one to take out Obama !

Nobody that speaks for the people has any chance at all. We are told what choices we have and that’s it. Newt is just playing his part as needed by the election planners. The need here is to set the focus on subjects that will dominate discussions on the future news tubes so the real problems that Obama has will not be the focus. Wake up stop, look and listen.

      1) Newt is correct on principal that if Romney is running on his business record then that record is fair game for scrutiny.
      2) Newt may not have intended this attack to appear to be a criticism of capitalism, but it has certainly come across that way. Sometimes the best thing to do for a business is to fire people and shut portions of the business (or all of it in some cases) down. In the end it means more competitive efficient businesses which means lower prices for everyone. If Newt didn‘t intend for this to appear as a criticism of capitalism then he’s obviously miscalculated his audience’s reactions.

Huntsman is ok. I like Newt. I like Santorum. I like Perry. I even like Ron Paul (though, as I’ve stated over and over his foreign policy is, IMO, naive, dangerous and wrong and could cost us far more than his domestic policies gain us). But this is not the way to attack Romney.

Romney is the only candidate left I really don’t like. He wants me to believe that he thinks big bloated government is ok at the state level (Romneycare) but that he’ll cut and limit it at the national level?!?!?!?!

Big government is a threat to individual liberties. That’s true at every level of government. (Getting on my libertarian soap box here.) That he doesn’t recognize this makes him my absolute last choice for the republican nominee and I think this is what needs to be pointed out to the American people.

Newt is defending his attacks against Romney by trying to claim he is just attempting to vet Romney’s claim to be a successful businessman and job creator. That is rubbish. Newt is really debasing his own intelligence with this weak defense of an even weaker campaign tactic. I believe the ads attacking Romney and Bain Capital clearly step beyond simply questioning the soundness of Romney’s business decision making and attack the underlying system of venture capital and free-market enterprise. This is not a smart strategy in my opinion.

I think it is more likely that Newt thought he had swung the momentum toward his campaign, but now is trailing behind Romney, Santorum, and Paul so he is desperately striking out at the frontrunner. Otherwise, I have a hard time understanding the nature and tone of his attacks. For the record, I am not a Romney supporter, but I think Newt’s attacks against Romney are sad for a self-proclaimed conservative. In fact, I think they may belie the fact that he is not a true conservative, but rather a big-government progressive Republican.

When Bush’s ratings went down to 25%, FOX and most of the other establishment Republicans still praised him. Romney and Bush are one and the same…establishment Republicans and the same ones are defending and praising Romney. Money is all they care about. They don’t care if this country turns to crap. They put down anyone outside Wall Street or the beltway. Newt is representing the OTHER 75% by calling out Romney. Romney beat up on Newt without hesitation from the get go but now that Newt is returning fire, Romney and his cohorts are squalling all over the place.

Romney has been boasting of his accomplishments with Bain Capital and Governor of Mass. Why isn’t it fair game for him to defend his claims. What is wrong with people. Is everyone in the tank for Romney? Is everyone mesmerized by FOX? There are good big money people and bad. How about the CEO of MF Global for you? Would everyone defend him? Thank God for Newt. Do I like the cannibalism among the GOP? NO. We need it though its something the left never did with BHO and look at us now. This Romney attack fest IMO is a the result of the media failing to vet Obama, some people have learned their lesson. Get use to it its the 21st century this is how the game is going to be played.

This will continue to be somewhat of a knock down, drag out primary. The Dems aren’t learning anything about the candidates that they do not already know. As has been said, Romney started the stone throwing in Iowa, spending big bucks through the superpack. Romney knew exactly what the Superpack was doing and approved it. Romney is at best a RINO, which we profoundly do not need.

The battle scars will prepare whomever gets the nomination for thew battle against Obama. Hopefully that will not be Romney. Could Romney beat Obama? Maybe, but more likely not. If he does get the nomination and wins, what then? A continued slide down the slippery slope, just maybe not quite so fast. Not prepared to choose a candidate yet, but wouldn’t mind seeing some infusion of new truly conservative blood.

Much like a suicide bomber, should you succeed, your victory will be Pyrrhic. In the world most of us live in, if you are going to charge someone with misconduct and unethical behavior, it would be the burden of then accuser to prove the charges, not the accused to prove his innocence. Remember when you said as much when you were being drummed out of the House? You may win your fight, but the damage you are causing in the long run will come back to bite the Republican party. If it’s true that the truth has no agenda (and it doesn’t), than right thinking will be found in the answers of, or the non answers, from whom the question was posed to. Romney’s negative TV ads were 90% misleading or completely false. Romney and his desciples were saying that politics wasn’t “playing bean bag” and other smartass comments. Anyone would say that the honeymoon between Republican candidates was then over. All the while Romney was arrogantly boasting about creating 100,000 jobs as CEO of Bain Capital. Romney was also boasting about all his financial expertise. It took a week or two for Gingrich to retool to compete against Romneys brand of negative politics. ROMNEY STARTED ALL THIS.

Now we have all of Romney’s desciples (including FOX) squalling for Gingrich to stop his hurtful ads against Romney.

The way I see it, Romney has a thin skin. Now we learn (Lou Dobbs last evening) that Bain Capitol had only a “passive” interest in Staples which is 90,000 of Romney’s 100,000 claimed jobs and this morning we learn that Bain Capital was hired by Obama to engineer the GM baleout including the firing of all those dealerships. Limbaugh reported two days ago that Romney praised Obama’s GM baleout as being what he was doing at Bain Capital. With Romney, we will get more government baleouts of his friends and more too big to fail crap with government ownership of large companies.

I want the next Presidential nominee vetted and vetted good! Newt said that he will be right behind Obama on the campaign trail, fire the czars and appoint John Bolton as Secretary of State. Okay lets say Newt gets the nomination, then He debates Obama and wins the election. Then what? We have a good debater as president? I don’t want a good debater, I want a leader. Newt has been so angry and irrational with his comments lately that I have lost so much respect for him. He will attack Romney from the left then apologize for it shortly afterwards. He has done that twice within the last month.

Either he is a closet liberal letting it slip out on accident or he is an irrational man who can’t control his emotions.

@ Klammey- You must have missed it. Bolton endorsed Romney this morning. I must say, I sent Newt a small (thank God) donation early on. I attended a retirement banquet years ago for my Congressional representative and Newt was the keynote speaker. I applauded so hard and so long that my hands hurt.I always admired his confrontational manner when he debated the opposition. And NOBODY can question his intelligence. Over the past few weeks I have seen a vindictive side of him that I have never seen before, and I am really turned off by it. I really think the damage has been done. He is now coming across as an angry hateful little man, and I never thought I would say such a thing about a man whom I have admired for over 30 years. Too bad.

Exactly. The Press won’t cut him any slack no matter what he says or does because they are pushing Romney. I find it appalling that it is ok for Romney to slam Newt in billion dollars ads, but Newt can’t vett Romney. I don’t believe for a minute that Newt has a vendetta against Romney. That is the Media hype putting that into our heads and it’s conniving. He is trying to expose Romney for what he is and for them to say otherwise smacks of bias toward Romney. It seems people are buying into the hype that Romney supposedly can defeat Obama. This is such baloney. Ever watch Romney when he is backed into a corner? He stutters and stammers like he is a nervous wreck. Newt is never nervous about any question thrown his way and he is able to defend his position very intelligently. I will never allow the Media to sway me into telling me who I should vote for.

The Media is trying to destroy him because they want Romney in and will stop at nothing to make that happen. Do you see them doing this to Romney? No, he is “The One” in their view. This is no different than when the Media pushed Obama in 2008. They give no one else a chance once they have decided who the nominee should be. I don’t see Newt as vindictive at all. I see him as trying to defend himself. I don’t know who I will vote for yet, but I have to say when I saw Newt on CSpan talking to the Veterans, he had a Veteran come up on stage from the back of the room, carrying an American Flag, and they all said the Pledge of Allegiance. I agree that faux news has pimped Romney. That’s because they are run by socialists. Newt clamored for a “clean” race to the GOP nomination for 1 reason alone. A bloody race would expose that POS for exactly what he is, a communist puke. He’s betrayed everyone in his life, though nobody is going to argue against gingrich’s ability to debate. As the Rolling Stones once said, “he is practiced at the art of deception”. Now that the rest of the field refuses to play “his game”, gingrich wants to go on counter attacks. That’s fine if he wants to do that, but the reason for it it is crystal clear. The other candidates have exposed what a creep gingrich is. Pretty sad day when the french whore socialist romney is even an alternative choice who looks far cleaner than gingrich. But he is.

There is “1” Constitutional voice in this entire race.

For those who are teachers or grammar nazi’s. Before the critique of not capitalizing gingrich and romney. They don’t deserve the respect, so please refrain from the proper grammar lesson.

First lets talk about how Newt was screaming what a dirt bag Clinton, for getting some oral stimulation, was screwing around on his own wife. Second, let us not forget his own party fired his ass as speaker. Then instead of supporting his parties actions he acted like a 2 year old and took his toys and ran home.
Now about Romney, I hear how we want a president to reduce the government and fire some people. And guess what Romney has experience with that, he knows what it takes to go in and take a bloated and failed company and either make it better or shut it down. So do we want another party hack or some one that has fired people to fire some bums in the government.

The problem is that politicians do not understand economics and can be bullied into voting. They don’t understand monetary policy! They don’t understand its detriment to society in general.

This is why we need Ron Paul. Say what ever about his foreign policy, but his economic understanding is astounding compared to anybody else. 13th Imam: Fortunately this issue is bringing the progressive leanings of Gingrich and Romney to the surface. What makes Progressives dangerous is their ego. They think they are the only ones smart enough to fix things. Gingrich is not helping himself, but, the biggest question all conservatives should have about Romney is: Can he avoid taking charge of the private sector to “fix” it like Bush did?

DCJONES, et al: You are so right. We need to get rid of these two because they won’t throw out the last hundred years of progressive “improvements” overnight. Then we could elect someone who has moderate success at running private sector enterprise with a market base of bigots, drug users and freaks, has accomplished next to nothing as an elected official, has no executive office experience and believes that we can be the biggest, strongest economy in the world and noone will hate us if we just tell them we won’t defend ourselves (And he wants us to think he will defend the Second Amendment).

Are you kidding me? Romney is the only candidate who can beat Obama! This video pails in comparison to Obama’s record. All they have to do is bring forth some of the numerous people whose jobs were saved/created because of Bain Capital. (I worked for an airline that Bain saved from bankruptcy). Then add people who have been unemployed for the last 2-3 years who have given up looking for a job because of Obama’s failed policies. Or business owners who can’t hire because of the policies of this administration. And how about all the car dealerships that were closed (many were very profitable!) after the government took over GM, killing thousands of jobs. This president has never created any private sector jobs ever…

Plus the fact that 40% of Americans are registered as independents today. 21% of democrats have left the democratic party and are now independents. Gingrich can never win in a general election. Romney is the only one who can beat Obama in the general election. And he will.

Every single one of these politicians is self-serving and has the record to prove it… except Ron Paul, even if you disagree with him on Foreign Policy, for whatever reason, there‘s not a single one that can even compare to Ron Paul’s character and integrity.

Get in line, Newt. Lock Step. Chop Chop! No original thought allowed. No dissent! You will leave a urine, semen and fecal specimens in the plastic cups and deliver them to Nurse Colby. There is only conformity to the establishment. There is only unity. There is only Fox! You will put your testicles in the box by the door. We will wash your memory of any truth you have inadvertently released. We will all act like these Romney Episodes never happened . . . Repeat after me . . . I never said it . . . I was just kidding . . . politics ain’t beanbag . . . I didn’t really mean it . . . That’s what primaries are . . . Mitt’s a good man . . . Mitt’s a good man . . . Mitt’s a good man.

And the lemmings move onward to the sea. If only conservatives knew the joy of having an independent mind, life would be better for everybody. But alas, they insist that the narrow closed and bigoted mind is the right mind. And the world suffers for it. Shame on you, conservatives. You are destroying our country. Gingrich is upset with the people who aren’t as smart as he is .. remember he announced himself THE candidate … that he would win the primary and be THE candidate. Now it is not working out that way and he is upset at the people who don’t “understand” that he is THE candidate. Acting like a teenage girl scorned.

Romney won’t/can’t defeat Obama. Period. Romney will become the nominee in the same fashion that McCain did, i.e., because of the open primary system. Many Dems are voting for Romney. If NH had closed primaries, I assure you it would have been a much different outcome. Newt Gingrich is the only man in this race that would defeat Obama in the general election, and the WH knows it. Romney as nominee guarantees Obama’s re-election. You think Obama’s first term is bad? You ain‘t seen nothin’ yet. Death panels and slavery reparations comin’ soon.

It doesn’t matter, Romney threw the first few punches but that’s ok – Gingrich is not the establishments choice so he doesn’t get the same treatment. If it is a lie then Gingrich is wrong for doing it, however, the only people I have heard saying anything, are not saying it wasn’t true. Gingrich is right up there with the treatment Ron Paul gets from this site.

Amen! Folks open your eyes and look at how the Blaze has mirrored the Mainstream Media in its kid-glove approach to Romney (their candidate) and the others who threaten his supposed frontrunner status. When it was Herman Cain, the Blaze took aim at him; when Gingrich, Beck makes sure to have him on the air to expose him (as well as using Bauchman to call him a Progressive); when Santorum, he uses the Newt playbook, too. Beck, not shockingly, is for his fellow Mormon. The Mormons are about to wet their pants in excitement over the possibility here that “their guy” is getting “oh, so close!” BUT he’s unelectable with true conservatives, and Beck has pragmatically sold his conservative soul for his religion’s cause. Obama knows all this, and can’t wait to destroy Mitt. (And, no, I am not remotely a Ron Paul supporter. He’s a joke!)

Josiah914, from what I have seen, Beck has been anything BUT Pro-Romney. Have you been following him at all ?

The main reason Mormons support Romney is that his family and moral values, and love of country and Constitution match ours. Oh, and by the way these same values match up with Evangelicals too if they can overcome their fear of the Mormon “Straw Cult”.
