Gingrich Downplays Romney’s Nevada Win, Vows to March On

Newt Slams Romney and Dropping Out Rumors Following Nevada GOP Caucuses

(The Blaze/AP) — Defeated in the Nevada caucuses, Newt Gingrich brushed aside all talk of quitting the Republican presidential race and said he hopes a series of victories will enable him to catch up with front-runner Mitt Romney by the Texas primary in early April.

At a news conference in Las Vegas after results showed him and Ron Paul jockeying for second place, the former House speaker attacked Romney and President Barack Obama by turns. He said he and aides have spent much of the past four days retooling a campaign that twice has made him a leader in the polls, yet left him with only one victory in five states.

He described Romney as a Massachusetts moderate, and cast himself as a conservative, and said the differences between the two will become “wider and wider and clearer and clearer” over the next few weeks.

He needs to forge a breakthrough as the race turns to a string of states friendly to Romney, including Colorado and Minnesota on Tuesday and Michigan, where Romney grew up, on Feb. 28.

Nevada was the second straight loss for Gingrich after his triumphant South Carolina upset.

And it was beset by glitches. Gingrich bungled a meeting with Nevada’s governor then suffered through the indignity of having advisers tell reporters that the former House speaker would score the endorsement of Donald Trump, only to watch the unpredictable real estate tycoon back Mitt Romney.

Gingrich’s campaign has always been a bit of a freewheeling affair, especially lined up against the regimented Romney effort. Gingrich is perpetually late, he frequently strays off message and his schedule sometimes seems improvised. His public appearances in Nevada have been surprisingly few, and he didn’t even venture out to caucus sites on Saturday as voters cast ballots.

But in Nevada, organizational problems were laid bare in a fashion that raises questions about whether he’s can compete in upcoming contests.

Gingrich aides say they have been using Nevada – where Romney was heavily favored and Ron Paul has sizable support – to reset the campaign after being clobbered in Florida.

One reason Gingrich held just five public events since arriving in Nevada is that he’s been at closed-door fundraisers and meeting with donors at the Venetian Hotel, lining up the cash he’ll need.

The Gingrich strategy hinges on Super Tuesday on March 6, when the campaign will sweep South again through states that look good for him. Gingrich – who is own chief strategist – and aides have been hunkered down mapping out strategy. Ohio will figure prominently in the mix. He’ll head to the Super Tuesday state on Tuesday, bypassing other states that have contests sooner.

Nevada provides a pretty good example of what not to do.

“We’re a bunch of volunteers that are drinking water through a fire hose,” said George Harris, a national co-chairman of Gingrich’s finance team who hosted a fundraiser for him at his Las Vegas restaurant, Mundo.

“And yeah, sometimes the left hand doesn’t know what the right is doing. But that’s how it goes sometimes,” Harris said.

In fairness, just three days separated the Florida primary and the Nevada caucuses. Romney carried 51 percent of the vote in the state when he first sought the Republican nomination in 2008, and his Nevada operation remains strong.

But Gingrich fumbled some key opportunities.

A meeting in Carson City Wednesday with Gov. Brian Sandoval was scrapped following scheduling confusion between Gingrich’s national and state staff. Sandoval had backed Texas Gov. Rick Perry, who endorsed Gingrich after exiting the race last month. Gingrich backers in the state had been hoping that even if Sandoval failed to offer up an endorsement, that a photo of the two men together would hold sway among conservative caucusgoers.

Gingrich’s Nevada director Dan Burdish said he was disappointed by the mix up.

The state team had also pushed for more campaign time, including a swing through rural parts of the state. They were rejected.

Without a debate to key in on, Gingrich – who is usually seen as the wonkiest candidate in the room – sometimes seemed downright out of the loop as he met voters.

News on Friday was dominated by new jobless numbers that suggested an economic rebound.

But Gingrich made no mention of them as he plowed through a speech at Stoney’s Rockin Country, a music club in Las Vegas. Asked about them afterward by reporters he said he hadn’t seen them yet.

Gingrich’s news conference remarks late Saturday night:

To all of you who are verbally attacking the Blaze and Glenn and supporting Gingrich I can only ask why YOU are overlooking that line of video where Gingrich praises The Democrat Party, Woodrow Wilson and FDR? How big do you need the caution sign to be? We’ve got an unfortunate basket of imperfect apples to choose from, but I’ve heard better explanations and intent from Romney and Santorum than Newt or Paul. I‘ve heard no explanation from Newt on his proud fan club membership of the Whitehouse’s strongest oppressors of the last century! He needs a big and believable explanation of THAT if he wants support from the people who are paying attention. Who ever wins the nomination needs to get out and explain how our freedom was established, protected by law and ignored by too many in the 20th century and how strongly Obama policy works to ignore what Obama called the charter of negative liberties. Job ONE. Get Obamacare repealed. Job TWO; dismantle the progressive monster and restore our rights and freedom!

Newt’s so-called press conference was as ugly as it gets. I was hoping he’d drop out before he wasted all the goodwill out there for him, and work something out for a position in a Romney administration. But, he proved too immature to do it. All that goodwill is gone now. He spent 95% of his lecture to the press trashing Romney and whining. Note to Newt: there‘s a reason you can’t raise money, and it’s not a conspiracy. He’s got nothing to look forward to now except debt, damaging the Republican Party and a lot of enemies.

I have been a rabid GB Fan for years, but I’ve decided to cancel my subscription to GBTV today, and I also will not be tuning in to his show until Newt buries Obama and moves into the White House in Jan. Then, maybey Mr. “Riddled with ADD” will get back to doing what he should be doing now, and that’s focusing on the advancement of the Socialist movement that is the Obama Administration and the Democratic party.

I just can‘t figure out what’s up with ole Flap Jackson these days, but to actively sway the opinion of his listeners to favor a TRUE establishment poster boy and progressive elitest like Mitt makes absolutely no sense. (Must be a Mormon thing.)

I think that it comes down to

Who has the best explanation of their skeletons

Who has the strongest conservative promises

Who has the best explanation of

      government’s actual purpose and job
      the constitution’s purpose

the American, freedom establishing and still essential principles of liberty written into the Declaration of Independence

The damage that has been and is being done to our rights

Patriots and freedom defenders vs power grabbers, racial, cultural; income level separatists/activists and government dependency builders through policy and expansion

Self responsibility, self achievers and the truly needy vs those who ride the system, covet neighbor’s goods, steal and some of whom who advance this as a way to replace our constitutional republic with a socialist state

Why the Judeo – Christian matter and have been a crucial element of liberty and why socialism minded people work to have the individual (not collective) salvation and individual responsibility and not covet thy neighbor’s goods stand intact in a public way, whether all citizens are faithful or not. The PRINCIPLES maintain liberty. If to whom more is given, more is expected, it’s a personal, individual lesson, not one of turning money, power and responsibility to government.

That may be so, but who did the “conservative” voters chose? Romney, overwhelmingly. Romney took 49% of the most conservative (Paul – 14%) and 61% of the “somewhat conservative” (Paul – 17%). Mitt even took the Tea Party with 50% (Paul – 16%). It seems the only group Paul won big were the atheists (55%). Now there’s something to hang his hat on.

It apparently worked, since you believe him. Only Newt would repeatedly say something so stupid. Besides, Soros was talking about certain investment areas, he wasn’t referring to the presidency as a whole. Romney shut down certain loop holes in Mass. This is the kind of stuff that kills people like Soros. This is also the BS where Newt keeps spewing Romney raised taxes. I really can no longer bare Newt, he is a disgrace to himself. As a budding psychologist, I will say, he really has some serious Mommy issues. The level of his insecurity and inability to sustain confidence but instead thriving off of ego and pride. The man is socio-pathic, as somebody pointed out above, maybe he has a drinking problem, but I don’t think so. His depleted condition, irrational behaviors, and even depressed state reflects a person lost as to who he really is, instead, trying to be nothing but a projection of himself. Driven by fears, this is unsustainable and forces him to thrive for attention or anything to fill the continuing empty void. Cycle after cycle, he goes up, puffs out his chest, ego and pride, and the lord says humble yourself or I will pull the carpet out from under you and humiliate you. The glory is not his to be had, lessons he should have learned long ago if he was truly sorry for his actions.

Reagan wouldn’t stand a chance in the GOP primaries.
According to today’s tea-party led, taliban-like takeover of the Conservatism, Reagan would be a liberal. He raised taxes 6 times. In 82 he raised taxes by almost 1 percent of GDP, making it the largest peacetime tax increase in American history. Reagan also backed a $3.3 billion gasoline tax and increased the Social Security tax rate. Reagan met and negotiated with Gorbachev – the head of the “evil empire”. A fiscal hawk? Sorry, Reagan began the steep slide into deficit spending. Remember, Reagan raised the debt ceiling 18 times. And for a party that has worked tirelessly to destroy the civil rights of homosexuals, Reagan was a maverick in his opposition to the Briggs Initiative in California, which would’ve banned gays and lesbians from teaching in the public schools, and his opposition helped defeat the measure. Lastly, let’s not forget that Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegal aliens in 1986, a position antithetical to current American Taliban ideology. Any Republican today talking or governing like Ronald Reagan would earn a swift kick out of their party, labeled as a tax-raising, terrorist-negotiating, gay-loving, amnesty- granting, big spending RINO Yet that hasn’t stopped the American Taliban from elevating Reagan to sainthood. Republicans have been thrown to the curb for far less these days.

Newt being a big government is a Saul Alynski tactic, take the truth and reverse it, say it often enough and others will believe it. Seems to be working, along with cuts and snippets of lectures on tape to convince people he is a Progressive, and I am pretty sure he was a big part of the collapse of the Soviet Union, not part of letting it happen. Newt’s voting record proves without a doubt he is a Conservative, and he does have the plans necessary to bring the country back from the brink, Romney doesn’t.

      • Glen Beck interviews Mr Kibe, and for some reason it does not seem obvious to him that he is only tearing the Tea Party further apart. His hatred (justified as it may be) for all things progressive drives him to hurt the country and the cause for which he has given so much. I hope that Mr Beck has made twice the number of phone calls to Tea Partiers than he has talked about their ‘racism, hypocrisy and stupidity’ in voting and endorsing Newt. If all he does for this election is to sit at GBTV studios and talk (as important and vital as that may be to the direction this country takes in the future), then something is really wrong.
      • That should even further make him (Beck) realise that he is just one part of a game that must be won using all the other parts as well. It has to be a team effort. While he coaches the nation on the virtues he perceives are most vital for a restoration, he must stop insulting those who are on his side, but disagree with him. I would be a millionaire by now if I made a dime for each time he teased Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol. What happened to the “With malice towards none” lesson? Completely agree with you, RDJones…

The WHOLE TRUTH has been sadly missing at GBTV/ Blaze
when it comes to anything Romney.
Never seen anything like it…except on mainstream media.

      1. Of significant note: We all know how much Beck despises Alinsky.
Yet, he refuses to report the Alinsky – Romney Connection…
even though multiple “tips” have been sent.

Yes, THE Saul Alinsky was ADVISOR and MENTOR to George Romney,
who openly admired and followed Alinsky’s ideologies over Conservatism.
And young smitten Mitt admired and emulated his father AND Alinsky.
Where is the GBTV/Blaze report on this shocker!

Photographs and quotes are all there, folks.
They were dug up by Dan Riehl, at Breitbart’s biggovernment.com.
The info is public, but obviously, hidden away.

Doesn’t this remind you of the 2008 election?

Yes just like he never said a bad thing about John Huntsman Junior why? The man work for Obama as ambassador to China how did that work out for us in his tenure? I truly understand a friendship bond between his father and Glenn but not one article on John Huntsman’s actions or involvement with China which gives one bias much. Same with writers here why are they afraid Newt Gingrich with all the negativity towards him. Huntsman Junior is not a progressive? Somebody stated that the Mormon church doesn’t get involved in politics or tell their members on which way the wind blows are you serious? 90+ percent of the Mormons voted for Mitt Romney, and yet you people claim the black race with their percentage towards Obama to be racial, yes I’ve known many a Jack Mormon in my days or do they still refer to as Jack Mormons struggling to break free of the bonds put upon them.

I’m cool on Newt now. I thought he could really hit the issues but I think what has kept him from total success all his life is at it again..PRIDE and EGO. HE didn’t need to knock Romney at his “PRESS CONFERENCE”…he only needed to address what HE could do for the USA. He will not make it past The big SUPER TUES. if he makes it that long. They all need to get behind MITT now who is not the lightweight I thought he was. More of the TOUGH MITT (the one I liked during the Olympics Save…is showing through. NEWT could out debate OBAMA, but OBAMA could get under his skin in about two seconds and he’d be ruined. YOU KNOW I’M saying it like it is! SANTORUM needs to go see if he can run for GOV. of PA. I’m assuming most of the posters on this site are GB fans, and if in fact that is true, please tell me WHY you would throw your support behind Willard’s campaign after everything that Glenn has taught us about George Soros? Have you not seen the video from Davos where GS does say that there is not much of a difference between Obama and Romney? Have you also turned a blind eye to the major contributors of the Romney campaign? How can anyone who believes what GB tells us support Romney? Are you blind to seeing a wolf in sheep’s clothing? Romney is by no means perfect. But Newt is dangerous and divisive. Newt spends all his time accusing Mitt of being dishonest without any consideration of his own peccadilloes with his multiple long term deceitful affairs. He consistently invokes the name of Reagan as if he was Reagan’s right hand man. Fact is not long ago he said people should stop talking about Reagan because “the era of Reagan is over”. With the world rapidly uniting against the U.S.A. we need someone that can unite us as much as possible and that person is NOT NEWT. He can’t even control his own self.

Yea, Willard is another one of the typical establishment politicians, but do you not know who Newt is?? Both of these guys suck to the tenth power. This is why the GOP/Tea Party is inept. Every time the people complain about how much we need a real conservative in the White House, but every election cycle the conservative base always nominate a flawed moderate politician. Real conservative candidates always get thrown under the bus. People is voting on electability instead of conservatism now. OK, how did that work out for us in the 90′s or 2008?? Insanity is not learning from history, making the same mistake by doing the same thing over and over again. Everyone threw Michele Bachmann under the bus, now everyone is throwing Rick Santorum under the bus. This pattern tell me “you the people” is the problem, not the politicians. Wise up people before it’s too late…

I like Glenn, but his word is not gospel.
Mitt is a flawed human being like the rest of us, but on the whole, he is the best candidate to run the country and aid in the economic recovery. His background/record proves that.
I don‘t care that he’s not “the most conservative”, I don‘t care that he’s a Mormon, I don’t care that he has the appearance of a flip flopper. He is the MOST qualified to fix the biggest issues facing 2012 America—-JOBS, the ECONOMY and ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. Everything else takes a back seat in this election. MUHERDNATION, I agree, but will vote for anyone against Obama. What we have to realize is that all negative comments from the candidates and from this site as well as all conservative sites will be used against whoever wins the nomination. Are we cutting our own throats? Newt needs to back off his personal attacks until the people are reminded of the nastiness of the Obama Hillary campaign. Romney is not as upfront with his attacks as Newt. He plays it down more and lets the pac ads do it for him. Newt’s ego and desire to be in the history books might make him a conservative leader. He is more gutsy than Romney and has had more experience. Let’s face it the corruption in Washington has made most politicians give into temptations. None are saints, most are greedy. We can not stop it in a day or even in years. As a nation we as citizens had become to secure in our little comfort zones and had not paid close enough attention. I know that I didn’t until now. I thank Glenn Beck for helping me be aware as well as FOX and talk radio. So what do we do now? The old saying “You don‘t know what you’ve got till its gone” keeps ringing in my ears. 9/11 was a wake up call, but how soon people forget. Our freedoms are not yet all the way gone but we are headed that way. So many here are turning away from the people who opened our eyes to the truth. We can disagree but we have to work together and remember what separates us from the porgressives or else its over. America will no long

Helium-3 is thought to exist in Moon dust (as a deposit from Solar winds) and in theory it can be used to provide fusion power that also does not produce neutrons. Nice idea. Of course, nobody has actually been able to get more energy from that fusion reaction than they have put in to making it happen. Instead of putting out heads on the Moon, maybe we could cogitate a little about a PROVEN way to safely produce clean and cheap energy — the Liquid Flouride Thorium Reactor. Check out energyfromthorium.com and you will get a better picture.

Did you look at energyfromthorium.com? The LFTR is really THE solution to the energy problem. As you are interested in these matters, I really urge you to look into it because the LFTR actually does prety much all that has been hoped for in fusion power (Safe, low waste, clean) plus, it is technology that was demonstrated in the 1960‘s AND you don’t need to go to the Moon for the fuel. In fact, Thorium can be had for FREE (as an unwanted byproduct of rare earth element mining).

Both are not on the ballot in Virginia and don’t have full slates of delegates in Tennessee, but in Missouri Gingrich is not on the ballot while Santorum has no issues and Santorum is not on the ballot in Washington DC and lacks full delegate slates in North Dakota, Ohio and Illinois. Yes, I am in Indiana and many who are for Santorum will have to write him in since he didn’t get enough signatures. I didn’t even know that he was short. I would have tried to get some so he could be on the ballot.
I think the issue here is that we are all so frustrated at what this election has to offer in terms of candidates!
We need to be united somehow which is the only way I see obie being defeated. But if georgie says Rom is no different…HEY, do we listen to him? Why are we doing that? Do we really believe that? Or is that what he wants us to do. Remember…georgie is not on our side. That is something to think about.
One thing for sure is that I am not excited about any candidate, just like last time. Sarah brought a breath of fresh air tothe McCan’t team. But when they saw how well received she was they had to stop her..because McCan‘t didn’t want to be President.
There is no “breath of fresh air” in this campaign.

Remember the bigger picture is to take this Nation down and there may be people in on this than we would like to believe.

II Chronicles 7:14 : ” If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
