Gingrich Has Harsh Words for Relentless Romney Campaign, Mitt Continues Attacks Before Tuesday’s FL Primary

Gingrich and Romney Up Verbal Attacks Sunday Before FL Primary

Despite leading national polls for the moment, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich is 15 points behind rival Mitt Romney in Florida. The former Speaker went to the stump and airwaves Sunday to pitch his message to the conservative base only days before the Sunshine State’s Republican primary election. Gingrich even hinted that fellow candidate Rick Santorum should perhaps step aside.

“When you add the two conservatives together, we clearly beat Romney,” POLITICO reports Gingrich said of his and Rick Santorum’s vote shares in current polls. “And I think Romney’s got a very real challenge in trying to get a majority at the convention.”

POLITICO’s Maggie Haberman writes Sunday that Gingrich came out swinging against Romney outside the Exciting Idlewild Baptish Church in Lutz, Florida, telling reporters he will take the race all the way to the convention because “the Republican party will not nominate a pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-tax increase moderate from Massachusetts.”

Gingrich acknowledged his slide in polls during an interview on ABC’s “This Week” Sunday morning, alleging that he’s still ahead of Romney in the areas of the country not flooded by “Romney carpet-bombs with Wall Street money.”

”It’s only when he can mass money to focus on carpet-bombing with negative ads that he gains any traction at all,” Gingrich said.

To the former Speaker’s credit, POLITICO reports Sunday night that Gingrich has been outspent on the Florida airwaves by a nearly $12 million margin. A source monitoring the Sunshine State ad war told Alexander Burns that through Friday, the Romney campaign and the super PAC Restore Our Future had spent a combined $15,340,000, in comparison to the $3,390,000 spent by the Gingrich campaign and the super PAC Winning Our Future. The Associated Press notes that Romney has already begun advertising in Nevada ahead of that state’s caucuses next Saturday.

Perhaps smelling blood in the water, the Romney campaign has reportedly sent surrogates to all of Gingrich‘s campaign stops in Florida to remind reporters of the former Speaker’s House ethics probe in the 1990s and other episodes in his career aimed at raising doubt about his judgment.

Gingrich has responded defensively, calling on supporters to help him “defeat the Republican establishment” and alleging that Romney has made untrue statements in his advertisements and on the debate stage. The National Journal reports on Gingrich’s “jarring assault” on Romney Sunday:

“’Some of the attacks on me have been breathtakingly dishonest,’ Gingrich said on ABC’s This Week. ’And I think as that deepens, the conservatives are going to come together and decide they do not want a Massachusetts liberal to be the Republican nominee.’

Gingrich went on to accuse the former Massachusetts governor of making untrue statements in his advertisements, in his campaign rhetoric and on the debate stage, where the candidates have now met 19 times.’I don’t know how you debate a person with civility if they’re prepared to say things that are just plain factually false,’ Gingrich said.”

Gingrich objected Sunday specifically to a Romney campaign ad that includes a 1997 NBC News report on the House’s decision to discipline Gingrich for ethics charges. The ad indirectly stars anchor Tom Brokaw, and NBC News and Brokaw have since objected to the campaign’s use of the footage.

The National Journal notes that while taking the opportunity to appear on several Sunday news programs, Gingrich attacked Romney on a wide range of issues:

“For example, Gingrich bashed Romney for raising sizeable amounts of money on Wall Street and specifically mentioned Goldman Sachs, a firm which is wildly unpopular with tea party voters because of the size of its government bailout during the 2008 financial collapse. He then accused Romney of using that money to ‘carpet bomb him in Florida with dishonest ads.

‘I give Governor Romney’s campaign due respect for the sheer volume of negativity that they use and the sheer amount of money they raise on Wall Street,’ Gingrich said on Fox News Sunday.

Gingrich also lit into Romney’s background, labeling him a ‘Massachusetts liberal’ and saying that Romney is trying to hide his record. ‘You have a governor of Massachusetts who was pro-abortion, he was pro-tax increase, he was pro-gun control,’ Gingrich said. ‘He can’t even remember his own voting record.’”

Gingrich and Romney Up Verbal Attacks Sunday Before FL Primary

The Associated Press reports that Romney spent Sunday continuing to paint Gingrich as part of the very Washington establishment that he condemns, and as someone who had a role in the nation’s economic problems.

“Your problem in Florida is that you worked for Freddie Mac at a time when Freddie Mac was not doing the right thing for the American people, and that you’re selling influence in Washington at a time when we need people who will stand up for the truth in Washington,” Romney told an audience in Naples.

Gingrich’s consulting firm was paid more than $1.5 million by the federally-backed mortgage company over a period after he left Congress in 1999.

The Boston Globe notes that Romney accused Gingrich Sunday of making excuses about a pair of flat debate performances last week and mocked Gingrich as “Goldilocks,’’ a new line he has adopted to suggest that the former former Speaker can’t decide why he appeared to struggle in the debates.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul  has invested little in Florida, and AP reports Sunday that the libertarian-leaning Congressman looked ahead to Nevada. The Paul campaign is focusing on gathering delegates in caucus states, where it’s less expensive to campaign.

Santorum canceled his Florida events Sunday to be with his youngest daughter Bella, who had been admitted to a Philadelphia hospital Saturday night and is recovering from pneumonia. The former Pennsylvania senator’s aides sent his 20-year-old daughter to campaign for her father in Florida Sunday.

Is there anything funnier than Newt feigning righteous indignation. A guy would proposed twice to women he was having affairs before he told his then current wife(s) he wanted a divorce. Guess he wouldn’t have felt a need to tell his wives anything if the answer was no. Providing a situation where Newt got elected President would be the worst thing Obama could possibly do.

For anyone who thinks Romney is safe because there is no “dirt” on him:
The pro-Obama media in some European countries has already started the systematic destruction of Romney. People are saying things to me like “Can you believe that Romney guy?… How can anyone vote for him?”
Yes, Europeans are pretty immune to Cain and Gingrich style “dirt,“ but they are proving that there are plenty of ways of associating ”reasonable doubt” about Romney’s character and judgement.
Then all that’s left are his similarities with Obama… and the undecideds will vote “incumbent.”

abbygirl1994: Romney cannot beat Obama; even George Soros said that. LOL Romney is too much like Obama.
Newt Gingrich is a great debater, because he is great on discussing real issues. It‘s hard to address Romney’s lies about Newt; they never quit. Romney is becoming as good a liar as Obama! And that’s not saying much is it?
Romney debates like a little sissy. He resorts to name calling. So childish! He cannot throw an honest punch and have a real fight over the issues, because Romney has always been such a flip-flopper.
You call Mitt a righteous man. I don’t think so. The man cannot tell the difference between the truth and a lie in his reli***gion either. And how do you know that Romney hasn’t had an affair, or that he has not lobbied?
Romney continues to distort Newt’s record, but I think the American people are smart enough to see that. Just this morning Fox had him on, and he lied, and Fox just gave him a pass. If that was Newt, they’d hold him to account for every word spoken.
Romney tells us that he knows how to create jobs having worked in the private sector. Well, he can claim his job as one I suppose, where he sucked multiplied millions from the private sector for his own benefit. Did anyone in the private sector fair as well as Romney? I believe in capitalism, but not corrupt practices where people drain businesses and then let them fail.
Romney was an independent; not a Republican. The programs he supported say much about him.

    http://www.newsmax.com/Headline/gingrich-refutes-ethics-fine/2012/01/25/id/425485?s=al&promo_code=E044-1

Take anything we keep repeating about Newt’s horribleness and you can find proof everyone is lying about it, the ethics charges were cleared up a very long time ago, but the media and Democrats were pushing so hard to make him guilty and smear him, they forgot to make any real reporting effort on the results after the fact.

So, if Newt is a dirtbag, Progressive, sleaze and all those other things that really don’t explain why you are thinking he is like this, tell me, the seriousness of Newt getting railroaded out of the House Speaker position was all over the charge of legally claiming a college course was tax exempt, whereas the Democrats charged him with saying it was political in nature and was not tax exempt. Proof above it was all dropped and not fined, and to think, all this for this, when Charlie Rangel owes back taxes in the six or seven digit range and he is still in Congress????

Bottom line, CHECK YOUR FACTS, PERIOD.

      Marion,

Heres a fact for you that at some point Romney will bring to the attention of the electorate:

How does he progress from a 34k a year job as a professor at a third tier college in 1978 to a net worth of 4.15 million by the 1998? In 79 as representative for Georgia he was paid 31,500 and in 97 as Speaker he was paid 117,000….its called inside trading. He knew what bills would effect specific business and thus he invested accordingly. That‘s info you and i aren’t privy to receive and if we are found guilty in receiving such info, we go to jail.
You wish to suppport Gingrich, that is your right. Unfortunately, the former Mr Speaker spews accusations rendering someone is a liar, and challenge their chararcter, without giving clarification of the truth of those accusations. Ethics?….Newt has proven without doubt he cannot manage his personal life as well as his professional life due to the complete narcissitic vile submission to his lusts and ego. You really want someone like this managing the next four years of your greatest investment which is your country? The USA is a business and we NEED someone with business skill to produce the desired effect of success.in fiscal management.

      Embrace clarity

Small difference from a ‘fine’ and a penalty. He had to pay for the investigation that he did not help very much with. But you miss the entire point, the fact is that he was investigated for Ethics violation, had to pay 300k to refund the tax payers, he was found guilty of one (yes, only one of many I know), was ‘pressed’ out of service by the conservatives that did not like him or his tactics.

You focus on the small wording, yet your candidate sits there and calls Romney, Pro-choice, anti-gun, tax raiser, yet if you look at the record he is none of those things. Newt takes a few voice clips and other smoke/mirrors tactics to say it is factual.

Pro-choice: Record shows otherwise, very very pro-life record. Newt tried to pin funded abortions on Romney under romneycare, but it had nothing to do with that, it was a supreme court deal, was not part of Romneycare AT ALL. Same withe planned parenthood, it mentions the words ‘planned parenthood’, nothing to do with the company. Then of course the gun side as well, the Gun groups in his state were extremely happy with Romney’s record.

So you tell me who is dishonest, and this is only the small stuff, this does not mention Newt flat out lying about putting up folks to refute the ABC interview, or lying about having divorce depositions. He has flat out lied and now goes to show to show calling Romney a Liar.

Folks, sorry, Newt got spanked on the campaign trail, he brought a knife to a gun fight.

It’s my understanding the Democrat Party Tactician’s developed the winning election strategy of “Occupy Class Struggle” pitting the 99% against the 1% as well as tested and perfected their exclusive “Media Theme Tool” last year on Global TV.

It’s crystal clear to me their target opposition is the “1% Romney” and will overwhelmingly win the contest in Obama terms “It’s A Slam Dunk”.

The 2012 election theme is not “It’s the Economy Stupid” rather it’s “Where’s The Money”.

Republican’s must select a 99% candidate to have one iota of a likelihood of winning, unless the establishment GOP priority is winning control seats in the House and Senate while consciously sacrificing the Presidential Throne.

And just about everything that they are tossing forward is skewed, and not skewed towards the truth, but towards anything that will tend to smear Gingrich.
And of course we all know one of Coulter’s best buds is Drudge and now apparently Glenn. They’ve lost it. What does this say about the Romney candidacy that it can only be advanced in this way? Do these attacks against Gingrich, these smears, in any way obscure the fact that Obamacare WAS based on Romneycare, that chief advisers to Romneycare COOPERATED with the obama team to construct obamacare?
If Romney gets the nomination, it won’t just be him that prevails, it will be the very same people that have led this country into such straits, such a crisis. The very same people that have wrought economic havoc upon scores of millions 0f people.
Well, you vote for the same ole crap, you get the same ole crap and you will deserve it!
      http://billmoyers.com/episode/crony-capitalism/
Let’s see, who fits this description??? Why are both establishments so against Gingrich?
Compare contibutions once you watch this, you will see who is the same ole crap!
      http://www.opensecrets.org/pres12/contrib.php?id=N00000286

And I am not a bigot, what is that the new “racist” card that is being played if you don’t want Romney? Give me a friggin br

Yeah NWADO, go check the liberal video created by the Unions who are trying to smear Romney. Non of the facts are true, Romney had nothing to do with it. This is old news, it is just Mr. Sheldon Adelson, billionaire politician buyer, is getting PO’d knowing he invested 17.7 million in Newt and knows there is no way he will ever get his money back. He couldn’t buy Romney, he’s not a cheap political ho like Newt. What still amazes me is how Newt consistently attacks free market practices and his supporters jump on ship with him. What is wrong with these people ?? Why don’t they just sign up for the Democratic party is they want business to be a fair game where everybody wins. Then these republiberals start crying that the establishment is unfairly attacking Newt while Newt literally is undermining and smearing the free market practices. What is even better yet, these bigots and republiberals accuse Romney of practices of the left, which is exactly what they are doing. Even Rush fails to see this. The last thing we need right now is Newt making a bad name for the free market practices to the general public. If you cry baby‘s haven’t figured it out yet, Obama won last election because more people voted for him. IN order to be Obama, we not only need McCains votes, but also all the votes of those who voted for Obama. It is like you ignorance has you so confused that 50% of the nation believe exactly as you do, but clearly this isn’t the case.

I feel in my bones that this administration is scared to death of Romney, why cause they can’t find any dirt on him but them, oh boy.. if Mitt can clean Newts clock with ads, just imagine what he can do with Obama and his failed administration.. It reminds me of that Rock ‘Em Sock ’Em Robots game from way back when & I’d like to see someone come along & knock both their blocks off. I think it‘s becoming obvious that Santorum is the only adult left in the running or if you’d rather, the only voice of reason & class act around. If there is any candidate who emulates Ronald Reagan as closely as possible, it would have to be Santorum. I’m writing his name in regardless of how these primaries go because all I see anymore with these two individuals is two establishment politicians who are spending millions of dollars in a mud-slinging contest & the loser will be the US taxpayers because these guys will reimburse themselves at our expense before they are done, in or out of office. While I believe that Romney still has some conscience & Gringrich has none, the current irresponsible conduct demonstrated is more telling about how these men conduct themselves in their personal & professional lives & will conduct themselves in the future. I would now prefer that the networks utilize whatever airtime these two idiots were going to use up to blow steam at each other & accord that time to Candidate Santorum & his plans for the White House. I would rather hear about how he is going to go about fixing things up & cleaning up the messes left by his predecessors. I want to hear about real reforms & his ideas & suggestions for making this nation great once more.

I know for a fact that Gringrich & Romney have both participated in activities to help destroy this country & this economy & neither one will ever convince me now that they will change their ways. It‘s obvious they haven’t because it’s still business as usual for the two of them & they could care less how what they do or what they have done affects the populace. It’s about manipulation on all levels to them to get what they want for themselves only, they consider the rest of us trivial & expendable & we are only a way for their means & a means for their ways. The United States of America is its people, not just its politicians. We would still be the United States without the politicians altogether, but not without the people. Think about your right to vote for the right man for the job, not just the candidate shoved in front of you. It’s just a game to them, but it’s real life to us. Do we pull together or do we let a minority of self-serving attorneys pull us down. I believe we still have an opportunity to turn this country around if we depend just on our own interests. Let the rest of the world fend for itself while we get our own house in order. I think for now Santorum is worth the gamble.

Obama is a designed device put in to bring us down from within, and needs to be charged, tried & hanged for treasonous offenses, along with those that support this infiltration & treason to the United States. You know what I “love” about Newt? Here is a guy who, DISHONEST throughout his married life towards marriage vows now takes the self righteous platform and calls Mitt, a man of integrity who has STAYED MARRIED to his only wife, now tries to imply that Mitt is the “dishonest” one when Newt has been clearly inconsistent ALL HIS LIFE. That’s the truth. By their fruits ye shall know them.

    NEWT’S FRUIT = BAGGAGE.
Romney made Staples and Sports Authority. I’m thinking we need someone who knows how to make the economy grow. That is our biggest threat to America right now. Losing our freedom through financial disaster. Riots will come and loss of freedom will come if we let this economy SABBOTAGE continue by Obama and gang.

I amazed that someone on the Blaze actually recognizes the real Newt and the dirtbag he is and has always been. I lived thru his days as Speaker and how disrespectful he was to his fellow Repubs in the House! He was a dirtbag then and he is even worse today! His ego is bigger then the state of Texas and believes he is entitled to the position he now seeks! That is so far from the reality as he has stated he is a Wilsonian Progressive several times and there are articles that have been all over with his statements about Progressiveism that are just plain out of line with Republican views! After living thru his hugh ego days, he is disgusting, a dirtbag, and unfit to lead our country! Why do you thing the people are believing in Mitt over this dirtbag, Newtie! Just go back and learn what he was like as Speaker and how he treated people during those days! Get real folks he is the opposite of a Saint that he would like you to believe!

What better candidate to go up against Obama than Ron Paul.
Obama will have hundreds of millions or a billion dollars to spend. Talk about trying to buy people! Let him do just that. And Ron Paul would be the best man to show in stark contrast what a Republic is all about!
Small and limited government reigned in by the constitution, coupled with a wise, honest, frugal candidate would be the BEST way to show Americans the difference between the progressive/corporatist/socialistic/militaristic obama (and the same thing on the GOP side!). Let the people see the waste and error….the full monty….. and then see the alternative… Ron Paul.

You like the fact that Romney is a flip-flopper and you won‘t be able to actually tell how he’ll govern, because he hasn’t told us yet. He knows how to create jobs in the private sector, even though he milked it for all it was worth to become a mega millionaire. He donated to democrats and tried to distance himself from Republicans, but you think he’d make a great president? He supported gays in the boy scouts, and abortion in Romneycare, but that’s okay, because that’s a Republican stance??? He votes for democrats??? He touts the fact that his father was born in Mexico, but does he also tell you that his grandfather was a poly***gamist and so was running from the laws of the United States that were against poly***gamy? You cannot wait for business as usual in Washington DC, which is exactly what the flip-flopping Romney will give you??? You want a president who lies as well as Obama? Just beggin’ for all this I see, or you would be voting for Newt! Romney doesn’t have a good idea yet…not that I’ve heard anyway. He could never compete with Newt on any level.
