Gingrich in the Spotlight, Barney Frank Takes Aim

Yesterday, while being interviewed by Chris Matthews on MSNBC, Barney Frank decided to take a few snarky shots at former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich.
Watch the MSNBC interview:
Frank’s comments might not come as a big surprise, however, as there may be two reasons for the attack:
First, as several commentators have pointed out, since the beginning of the GOP presidential candidate race, it has been a popular trend of GOP opponents to scrutinize en masse whoever is leading in the polls or generating excitement among conservatives.
Because Gingrich appears to be what many have referred to as the GOP “flavor of the week,” with ABC News writing “If August belonged to Bachmann, then September was Perry’s, October Cain’s, and now November is Gingrich’s moment in the sun,” he will therefore have all of the media’s attention turned on him.
And this seems to be the standard operating procedure.
Many would argue that almost every GOP presidential candidate that has managed to gain traction has been flooded with negative news stories, accusations, and criticisms that seem to last as long as it takes for their numbers to fall.
However, there are two glaring exceptions to the rule.
First, there is Mitt Romney. He has regularly done well in the polls and the media has declared him the “winner” in almost every GOP debate. Yet somehow, he has managed to go relatively unscathed by the mainstream media. Even after saying “corporations are people,” there was no media feeding frenzy.
The second exception is Ron Paul.
Despite his supportive and excited base, his fundraising capabilities, and his strong polling numbers, the media has decided to ignore him completely. In fact, in the last GOP debate hosted by CBS, he was allowed a paltry 89 seconds to speak.
But aside from Mitt Romney and Ron Paul, it would appear that the mainstream media has a standard operating procedure: thoroughly vet, dissect, and scrutinize whoever seems to be rising in the GOP and wait for their numbers to slip.
Here are some examples:
When Bachmann was doing well in the polls in August, the media suddenly turned their attention on her. She was declared “the queen of rage” and Newsweek featured her in a none-too-flattering cover story. However, once her poll numbers started to fall, the media quickly grew tired of her and moved on.
Rick Perry took over in September and he became the next big story. After making a strong showing in the polls, he was greeted with a deluge of what some have described as poorly researched hit pieces that accused him of being a racist:
Mixed with his personal gaffes, the onset of negative press probably helped cause Perry’s numbers to slip.
Next up, former Godfather’s pizza CEO Herman Cain surged in the polls. He was then met with a barrage of negative media attention stemming from multiple unverified and questionable allegations of sexual misconduct.
Although his fundraising and poll numbers were strong during the height of the sexual allegations, he has seen a slight dip in support since.
Enter Newt Gingrich.
Now that the Former Speaker of the House is in the spotlight, after several strong debate performances, he will continue to get what conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh refers to as an “anal exam” by the media.
This could be one of the reasons Barney Frank decided jump on board the “Let’s-Blast-Newt” train. Gingrich is the latest “big thing” and the attention won’t subside until his polling numbers dip.
However, there is another reason why Frank might be interested in going after Gingrich: ”Payback.”
Recall what the Former Speaker said about both Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd regarding their involvement in the financial crisis:
Needless to say, this might have upset Frank a little bit.
[Editor's note: Critics might find it odd that a senator involved with a male prostitute would think that he has any room to mock another man for remarrying.]

He is the best for the economy, he is great on foreign policy and unlike the media is trying to tell us, he may not be as much of a flip-flopper as they would like us to think. He is consistent on gun rights, global warming, the auto bailout, gay rights immigration… ( http://www.thedailycandidate.com/projects/nov/flip_flop_central.html ) I am still waiting for the research to be done on health care and taxes, and his consistency on that.

——————————————————————————————————————————–
Actually he’s not, but you’re entitled to your opinion. As far as Constitutionally accurate, Paul is BY FAR the most correct. I personally think that Gingrich would make a good VP, but IMO he’s poison as a leader. BUT, compared to the mentally stunted idiot Barney (the purple queer dinosaur) Frank, Newt is FAR superior in every way. That in itself is scarey!
I’m still not sure who to endorse. I go back and forth between Cain and Paul. For awhile I couldn’t figure out why I was so hesitant on Bachmann but I finally got it. She’s weak. I don’t want a raving lunatic for a candidate, but I want one who can speak with authority. The only reason why I don’t think she can, is because she’s not settled on exactly what she represents.
Romney isn’t a Republican…………….AT ALL! In no way. He’s a socialist, and there’s no 2 ways about it.
Perry has come up with some decent stuff since he recovered from his latest gaff, after recovering from his earlier gaff, after not having a message that had any clarity.
Everyone knows that Gingrich is a member of the Club of Rome, and of the Scottish Rights of Free Masonry.

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 8:14pmFor those speaking “foreign policy”, well, I’ll say this:
If we continue the progressive foreign policy, America will fall. We have been lied to, manipulated, and fooled.
As long as America continues to police the world, invade sovereign countries, and support dictators, bin Laden’s jihad will never stop. In fact, it will only make it stronger. The progressive policy legitimatizes bin Laden’s jihad. How we behave here has nothing to do with it, it’s simply us being there. That is the whole basis of their jihad, invaders of their land. bin Laden’s own words say so…
Goals
-Financially bleed America
-Spread the military as thin as possible
-Create dissent within America and between her allies
Continuing the policy of backing dictators and occupying foreign land only emboldens and strengthens bin Laden’s jihad…
We can either be arrogant and think we are indestructible like the Soviet Union thought, or we can change our ways from the foreign policy that caused this whole mess.
Any honest and patriotic analyzer will tell you the same. You decide to choose a candidate that continues the progressive foreign policy, blame yourself when we destruct.
Wake up, and stop being fools. The progressive foreign policy goes hand and hand with the progressive domestic policy. Stop being fools. Wake up America.

There is a reason why the progressives have not gone after him, Either they think he is no match for Obama (or Hillary) or they know that he can be swayed to the left.Romney does not impress me as far as being a conservative. If he is thecandidate nominated,we will be back to the same scenario as the last election with McCain. Which I believe will be another win for the progressives. I am still not sure of two things. First can we win at all considering the money and the power that backs the dems? Also, if Obama declares martial law and we are left with trying to survive, what will we be coming back to while the progressives will have the ability to force their agenda with no opposition? I know that we are determined to beat the dems in 2012 but the truth is we are up against an enemy like we have never faced before. I pray that our numbers will grow and somehow we can organize on a larger scale, and find individuals willing to financially back us. This isn’t like the elections of the past. (With the exception of the last). We thought that we were angry after the last election with voters fraud, brainwashing, and the financial backing of Sorus and the Unions, but I would bet that we ain’t seen NOTHING yet. We’re gonna end up with Romney and you all know it, that’s who the Press will annoint. Right now, Newt is the smartest and boldest. Former UN Ambassador John Bolton almost ran, he would have made all these guys look like propeller-heads.

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 6:47pmFirst, there is Mitt Romney. He has regularly done well in the polls and the media has declared him the “winner” in almost every GOP debate. Yet somehow, he has managed to go relatively unscathed by the mainstream media. Even after saying, “Corporations are people,” one would think a media feeding frenzy would have ensued
Report Post »____________________________________________________________________________________
I can explain this, the dems had rather have Romney as the GOP nominee than anyone, why, because they have a multitude of trash on Romney that they are saving for the general election to release. The establishment has also picked Romney. The reason Romney has remained steady in the polls is that he peaked right off and that‘s all he will get unless he ends up with the nomination and is shoved down everyone’s throats. What the establishment is not counting on is many will vote for a 3rd party before they will vote for a RINO. Glenn Beck should go ahead and release everything he knows about Romney because if he don’t and Romney gets the nomination, we’re gonna lose to Obama again. Obama beat McCain and McCain beat Romney, I rest my case!
P8riot
Posted on November 18, 2011 at 7:00pm“the dems would rather have Romney”? Are you serious? Romney is the only one who consistently beats Obama in the national polls. Newt is double digits behind Obama in the national polls.
The primary reason Romney is steady in the polls even when he’s attacked by the media (and directly by the White House) is because Romney supporters reason with logic, not just emotion and bumper-sticker-lines (i.e. 9-9-9).

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 7:11pmThis is correct Romney has gotten a free pass while the others have beaten up, and Romney is weak and worse than a RINO he in my opinion is a closet Lib. Things in this country could unravel by the time the election gets any traction. In politics it’s an eternity so anything can happen. What all of this boils down to is that there is no clear leader coming from the GOP, Newt in my opinion would destroy Obama in a debate but his hands are dirty with his past dealings with NAFTA and Gatt and his ealier cozyness with Pelosi. So some don’t want him around, Romney will lose, Paul would do better in a third party run but would fall way short of votes to beat Obama. The rest look to weak Perry appears to be another Bush type that will turn off the voters, Bachmann is out she is getting no face time. So what’s that all spell? we get the Dear Leader for the rest of our lives as he will not leave if he gets reelected, and we all will be hearing the word comrade and feel a size 10 boot on the back of all our necks. Screw it I will vote for Newt if he gets the nod and hope for the best at least we won‘t be communist’s.

Newt’s been looked at so many times they left a flashlight for future use. Right now, Newt and Bachman look good for a P&VP. I like Cain but he’s from GA as Newt. I hate the media bias. Posted on November 18, 2011 at 10:33pmGARYM, I believe you are absolutely correct. The Libs / Dems want Romney because they have something fatal on him (or have him in their collective pocket). Their (Libs / Dems) lack of scrutiny on Romney clearly portends an October surprise. And the establishment Republicans want Romney nominated because they think he is the only one who can beat Obummer. They’re more interested in a “win” than actually restoring the country.

That is why the Left, who forgives anything their own do , like to pillory conservatives because they know that that will “get to ” the conservatives. The Left hates the fact that the conservatives go to church and has standards, so the Left loves to crucify any conservative who “falls short” on the moral scale. The Left – well, they don’t give a — about standards and falling short…for a fellow Lefty ! Great tactic for the Left: they can forgive/dismiss their Barney Frank while pillorying a Newt …..

Posted on November 18, 2011 at 8:47pmYour comments about Newt are what people may think but also may not be too relevant. He does have a reputation as Speaker of the House under Clinton and helped balance Clintons’ budget which he bragged on. I think now, voters will vote on record versus personal record e.g. obama never had a job, original birth records, college manuscripts. He was a community organizer and that’s all. We can certainly all say he’s a rabble rouser. Newt speaks well under pressure which the sitting prez does not. All the R candidates have strong points. We have a long row to hoe. Our country is a stake. WE have to vote wisely this time. We might not have another go-around. TaxedEnoughedAmericanvet.

Newt discussed a wide range of choices, while Obamacare destroys the private insurance industry.
