Gingrich Pulls Spanish Radio Ad in Florida after Romney, Rubio Complaints

Gingrich Pulls Spanish Language Radio Ad after Romney Campaign and Rubio Complain

As the presidential primary fast approaches in Florida (Jan. 31), the four remaining candidates are actively courting the state’s large Hispanic population. Newt Gingrich has been one of them. But a new radio ad meant to bolster the new frontrunner’s status backfired on Wednesday, and he’s now pulled it following criticism from several Hispanic-American political leaders in the region.

Despite Gingrich getting the endorsement from the country’s largest Hispanic Republican group, the latest ABC/Univision poll finds that Mitt Romney has a huge lead in support from Hispanic voters in Florida. And as prominent Cuban-American political leaders began to line up behind Romney last week, the Gingrich campaign released a controversial ad on Spanish-speaking radio stations in south Florida alleging that the former Massachusetts governor is “anti-immigrant.”

Shortly after Gingrich’s ad was released, possible running mate and popular Cuban-American Florida Sen. Marco Rubio came out to denounce the attack on Romney, saying that the ad uses language that is “inaccurate, inflammatory, and doesn’t belong in this campaign.”

The Tampa Bay Times has produced a translated transcript of the controversial ad:

“He is the most anti-immigrant candidate.

Mitt Romney may have the fame, but he does not have the substance to be our President.

In Contrast, Newt Gingrich is a candidate that has committed himself to the Hispanic community. A Republican similar to Ronald Reagan, with experience.

Unlike Romney, who uses statements from Castro, Newt Gingrich has fought against the regime with Lincoln and Ileana to approve Helms-Burton; he supported the formation of Radio and TV Marti; and is in favor of holding the Castro brothers accountable for the shooting down of the Brothers to the Rescue airplanes.

Newt Gingrich has given his word to the Cuban American community in writing and will not let us down. This January 31st vote for Newt Gingrich by punching number 12 in your ballot.”

The Romney campaign immediately rebuked Gingrich’s attack, saying in a statement to The Tampa Bay Times:

“This ad is false and full of ridiculous claims. Mario Diaz-Balart, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Lincoln Diaz-Balart all stand with Mitt Romney because he has laid out a clear vision for spreading democracy in our hemisphere. By attacking anyone who supports common-sense border security and immigration reforms as ‘anti-immigrant,’ Newt Gingrich is once again reading from Barack Obama’s liberal talking points.”
The Miami Herald now reports that in the wake of heavy criticism from Sen. Rubio and the Romney campaign’s Hispanic leadership team led by former Sen. Mel Martinez, the Gingrich campaign has agreed to pull the radio spot.

“We respect Senator Rubio tremendously and will remove the ad from the rotation. We will replace it with a positive message that will continue to focus on drawing contrast between our clear vision on the issues important to the hispanic community and our opponents lack thereof,” Gingrich’s Florida campaign chairman Jose Mallea told The Herald.

Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R)

The Herald reports that Gingrich has released a new Spanish-language radio ad attacking Barack Obama’s lack of experience and failure on the economy, mentioning nothing of the former Speaker’s Republican primary opponents.

Sen. Rubio has said he plans to stay neutral in the race.

I can‘t believe how many people are fooled by Gingrich’s antics. Out of all of the politicians I have seen, he is the quickest to change stripes depending on audience. He was a Rockefeller Republican before he was a Goldwater Republican… he was for climate change policies before he was against them. He called Paul Ryan’s budget “right wing social engineering” and now he says he was mistaken.

How are you people fooled by this man? He fell flat in last week’s debate, and you could see how little substance he has when he couldn’t play to the audience.

Wake up people, this man is a big Government progressive. His first thought on any issue is more Government, not less. He is the ultimate Washington insider… how is anyone, particularly anyone who identifies themselves a member of the Tea Party fooled by this man?

And he is the only politician in America who is probably less popular than Obama. If he is the nominee, the election becomes a referendum on HIM and not Barry and his failed policies.

I agree, Truth. I’m appalled that so many people are utterly fooled by this guy. He’s got to be the biggest internationalist progressive on the GOP side of the aisle that I can think of. How anyone can believe his rhetoric when there are countless clips of him saying he’s a HUGE government progressive, standing up for the worst presidents in our history, and their awful policies, is utterly beyond me. Not to mention his voting record over the decades. What’s worse, is all the Newtites somehow believe that if you’re not on board with this disaster of a candidate, you’re somehow in the bag for Romney. Huh? I’m NO fan of Romney, but I could hold my nose and vote for him if I absolutely have to. Newt is the only one of the GOP hopefuls that absolutely guarantees I will vote third party I wholeheartedly believe, with everything that I am, that 8 years of Newt will destroy what’s left of this country. We **may** survive 4 more years of Barry, but not 8 of Newt. Our best hope is to get a strong hold on congress that will stand up to the progressive, internationalist things any president may want to do. But I guarantee there won’t be enough strong constitutionally-minded reps and senators who will stand against a president of their own party. Because of the nature of politics, there will be enough opposition to Obama’s destructive policies from the “moderate”, establishment Republicans so that, with the help of the strong constitutionalists, they can block them.

Flip flopping Mittens is at it again??

First it was this: Mitt Romney has laid out a specific plan for dismantling Obamacare even without the congressional majorities required to strike it formally from the books. On his first day in office, he will issue an executive order paving the way for Obamacare waivers for all 50 states. He will then work with Congress to accomplish full repeal.

He has some ‘slaining to do.

A student at Univ. at Southern Maine has said this about an upcoming visit from Dr. Paul. Quote “”Ron Paul wouldn’t be my candidate of choice anyway,” Rothgaber said. “I like his foreign policy best out of all the Republicans, but I’d go for Romney because he’s the least right.”

WHATEVER is going on…the “ FIX” must be in.

Remember in 2008 when there was BIG opposition to Obama from people like
    Alan Keys, Sharpton, Jackson, etc?
Remember when Hillary went after Obama with guns blazing and Harry Reid
had question about Obama, and John McCain suddenly deserted Palin FOR Obama-
He responded to a Town Hall question about Obama, McCain said Obama was a “good
person”, almost siding with or defending HIS opponent.
AFER one of their “behind closed doors secret meetings”, they all came out in
what appeared as a NEW PERSPECTIVE about Obama. And, Obama walked on
them AND McCain like door mats – they said nothing- just took it.

McConnel, Boehner and the boys – as much as they SAY they disagree with
Obama – you wouldn’t know, as they jump to whatever Obama says. The SOTU
would have been the time for them to show their disapproval – and NOT showed up.
Instead, they looked like they didn’t want to be there BUT sat with a look of “fear”.
Daniels rebuttal was meek, mild – cautiously worded NOT to express or
show anger or offend Obama, while looking like a scared mouse.
Obama has lied the whole time – and THEY DO NOTHING ABOUT IT.
They have gone along with everything he proposes, one way or another.

Romney is who they WANT and Newt is not – why?
Pelosi is openly disregarding the Constitution – guaranteeing Newt WILL NOT WIN.
WHAT is it that THEY KNOW OR FEAR ABOUT OBAMA?

Republicans are not going to worry about a few lost Libertarian votes until the numbers become very severe and it seems that there is a possibility of skewing the election. For the most part, the Republican establishment figures that the Libertarians have to vote for the Republican in the general election because they have no other place to go. If they go to the Democrat, they would have gone there anyway because they like the idea of liberal drug laws and abortion.

You Newt/Romney kids are too much. Politically they’re equal. They’re both Bush. Obama is Bush x 4. All of them are going to expand the power of the federal government, ignore the constitution, ignore the spending problem, stick to party lines, and recklessly pursue foreign objectives in the name of selfish national pride. Santorum’s not off the hook either. He likes to sit quietly in the corner and let Newt and Mitt duke it out while he hides the fact that he’s just like them. A stinking big government progressive who’s pandering to the born-again Constitutionalists who seem to have forgotten how much politicians will lie and deceive to get their needed support. At least Romney can take some credit for hiding it LESS.

I have been driven to become a “Paulbot” by these other 3 clones and their followers. Frankly, I’m really starting to like it over here. I’ve been avoiding Paul for years because of what everyone says he is, but the truth speaks a bit differently. He’s the only one fighting for the Constitution and founding principles, and the only one who’s been steadfast in it since he took office. His views are much closer to Glenn’s than Glenn gives him credit for. IF there’s a last chance at redeeming our nation, it’s him. Even his kooky foreign policy has many merits, to the point where it is in fact better than any other candidate’s. Don’t let your normalcy bias cloud your judgment, let his words sink in. I’d already decided over a year ago I would no longer be voting for the lesser of two evils when I had a 3rd option that was a better choice, LONG before I began to accept Paul. I came to this decision because I’m tired of being stuck with choosing between horrible and downright nightmarish. It’s that fearful mentality that “we’ve got to vote for the Republican that will beat the Democrat” that has allowed the media to manipulate us into putting their desired candidates up in the general election. My vote is my voice, and my voice will go to the most fit candidate. The nice thing about Paul is that he’ll actually have a lot of independents and midline Dems on his side this time around (not buying the hard left support though). The way I see it, whether Hussein wins or whether one of the other 3 clowns wins will make little difference anyways, we’ll still have no chance as a nation. In my view the best shot at solving our problems without civil is to abide by my policy. You may disagree if you like, all I hope is that whatever happens is the best outcome for liberty.

That’s funny raginjudge, being for paul and a constitutionalists and all, I am surprised you are not out raged withe idea of Newt even being considered. Mostly everything I have found regarding Newt Ginrich and his very anti-constitutional stance has been on the Paul site. Or at least those who provided the information are Paul supporters. Gingrich takes a great many stand where he completely discounts the constitution and even says that it is out dated and needs improved upon. It is one thing to be Romney and not be 100% right on all matters, but with Newt we are talking Council on Foreign Relations, NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and large support foreign aide and for the UN. I could keep going on and on, but Newt and Mitt certainly aren’t just simple Bushes, Newt is a progressive of the worst kind. Very interesting to hear your opinion, I just concluded that all Paul guys understood the extent Newt discounted the constitution and move our nation away from sovereignty. With pointing towards books like “The Third Wave” in place of the constitution. Heck , even in his SC speech, he compares Sual Alinsky‘e was as Obama’s ways to his which he said The Declaration of Independence. Why not the constitution ? This didn’t surprise me after I all I read, with the book calling the founding fathers “Founding Parents”…. I don’t know, I just thought a Paul person would see more of contrast on Newt and Mitt. I like Paul in many ways.

Oh don’t get me wrong I loathe Mitt, Newt and Santorum, which is why I am in my position. Mitt was the first man I positively identified as a very bad choice for president. Romneycare and just plain ole’ being a governor of Massatwoshits made that observation an easy one. I started out with hope for Newt, willing to overlook his past character flaws, and he’s an excellent orator, but the more I dug in and analyzed, the more I realized he was at LEAST as bad a choice as Romney. Santorum came later, initially because of his pro-gun history, and then his 2005 NPR interview put the nail in the coffin. It’s really difficult for me to pick one of the three, but as I said I guess I have to give Romney slight credit for being less deceptive than the other two. I won’t even give Santorum Catholic points (that’s what I practice). It’s difficult for me to see much contrast between one right-wing progressive and another now that I’m against them, all of them extremely dangerous to the Constitution. They‘re all so muddled up in lies and deception that it doesn’t seem worth trying to sort them out. And I’m certainly not arguing against your assessment on Gingrich, lol.

To each his own, it’s a tough decision to make. Considering that it would be Paul and that my other options would be so terrible, I’m more inclined to stick to my resolution. I’ve already all but given up on the thought of this country being saved through a (mostly) peaceful political shift, to me the 3 progressive Republicans aren’t different enough from Obama to offer any real valuable advantage, so the decision is much easier for me to make than I anticipated. Either one gets us to essentially the same place the way I see it. I’m not even sure if Paul can fix this mess, but by God I know he’s the ONLY chance of a possibly bloodless outcome. The other 3 might buy us another few months at best, but they’ll be crappy months anyways. Hopefully we get Paul. If not, hopefully I’m wrong.

I‘ll not vote for the lesser of two evils unless there’s only two options. The reason there have been so few worthy candidates since the dawn of the progressive era is that very mentality, at least that’s the way I see it. Since I believe there’s no hope for this nation with the victory of EITHER evil, there’s really no inner conflict that would change my decision. If two evils are all that are left to vote on, THEN I’ll vote for the lesser of two evils just to add one non-Obummer vote.

And yes, I believe W was a good man at heart who loved his country and did what he thought was best. I also know that he was absolutely insane for believing that his choices were ACTUALLY good ones, because they were downright terrible. When I compare him to Oblamer, I’m simply comparing their policies and big-government, big-spending tendencies. Bush doesn’t need any position of power; I’d love to have a beer with him though. Hussein, on the other hand, would get the Tim Thomas treatment at BEST.

Newt WILL take Florida and kick butt all the way to the White House! HOWEVER, it‘s NOT because Romney’s a Mormon.

Romney lost traction because America sees thru him. Romney has no moral compass and like Newt says, Romney keeps trying to find the version of himself that he thinks America will buy [pharaphrase]. In other words, instead of acting from a position of integrity, Romney only says and does what he thinks folks want to hear = Romney is not an honest man.

Newt is proving himself to be an Honest, Seasoned, Battle Trained Warrior who has made his mistakes, LIKE WE ALL HAVE. Newt knows where his mistakes are and, By The Grace Of God, he has learned from them. And, like All of us Christians, Newt Is A Forgiven Man.

In this thread Newt has been compared to Satan and a pedophile.

Newt has been honest and forthright about the fact that he has had moments in his life that he regrets, that he has had to seek reconciliation, and go to God for forgiveness.

The impeachment proceedings against President Clinton were due to the fact that the president committed perjury in front of a sitting federal judge, which is a felony.
He served his dying wife with divorce papers? Newts daughter cleared it up….
      1) It was her mother that requested the divorce, not Newt, and it was months before the hospital visit in question; 2) Her mother was in the hospital to remove a tumor, but it was benign, and she is still alive today; 3) Newt visited the hospital for the purpose of taking his two children to see their mother, not to discuss a divorce. http://townhall.com/columnists/jackiegingrichcushman/2011/05/08/setting_the_record_straight/page/full/
