Gingrich Says GOP Candidates Will Face Serious Questions if They Lose in Home State

During an interview on Fox News Sunday Republican presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich said that candidates must win races in their home states or face serious questions about continuing in the race. The comment comes as rival Mitt Romney appears to be struggling in Michigan, where the former Massachusetts governor was born and his father was governor, before the state’s primary on February 28.

If Romney loses in Michigan, “I don’t know see what he says the next morning to his donors to stay in the race,” Gingrich said.

That said, Gingrich acknowledged that he must win the March 6 vote in Georgia, where he served as a congressman and has been heavily campaigning over the last week with former candidate Herman Cain. Surging candidate Rick Santorum will run in his home Pennsylvania this April, which appears to be a key swing state in the general election like Romney’s Michigan.

“If any of the three loses our home state … you have, I think, very, very badly weakened candidacies,” Gingrich said. “I was home campaigning for the last two days precisely to say to all of my friends back home, Georgia really matters. You cannot take this for granted.”

Gingrich stopped short of saying he would drop out if he lost Georgia “given the chaos of this race.”

The Associated Press notes that the Republican candidates face a series of nine primaries and four caucuses between now and Super Tuesday on March 6. At stake are 518 delegates, more than three times the number awarded so far. Georgia has the biggest delegate haul at stake, 76. The pro-Romney group Restore Our Future is targeting Gingrich in television ads in the state, according to AP, hoping to deny the former House speaker a sweep of the delegates and leave some on the table for Romney to scoop up.

When all this is over and Newt loses, will he be the newest FNC contributor,
or, like a certain other – also-ran- will Fox give him his own show
trying to court more liberal viewers while they hide
the truth about the real conservative talent they are hemorrhaging.

What exactly is Romney’s home state? Michigan? Massachusetts? New Hampshire? California? He has homes in all four of those, plus perhaps a few more I’m unaware of. And, of course, a close connection to Utah.

      Exactly..

.if the standard is the state they were born in, that would be Santorum-VA; Gingrich=PA and Romney=MI.

BUT…since Newt and Santorum want to claim the states they represent…wouldn’t that make MA Romneys home state? Last polls I looked at he was doing so much better in his homestate of MA than Gingrich in GA and Santorum in PA.

OR…if they want to use the standard of where they were born…I think Romney is closer to winning his MI than either Gingrich is in PA or Santorum is in VA. Just sayin’

haha here’s a poll that needs to be sent to the RNC chair:

Who’s electible now? Taken by CNN/ORC among Independents nationwide

      http://wetheconservatives.com/cnnorc-feb-10-13-independents-favorability-graphic-from-cnnorg-poll/

Paul has a net favorability of +8 compared to rivals Santorum, Romney, and Gingrich who have net favorability ratings of – 6, -20, and -38 respectively.

But even better, he BEATS Obummer who only scored a 6.

Notably, Congressman Paul also has the highest favorability among non-white voters, men, women, voters under 50, and independent voters compared to his GOP challengers.

I am more conservative…but we can’t vote in Fl. in the Republican Primaries. I do agree with most Republicans. I am a Tea Party member but not real active in it. I really truly believe that Newt is our best choice and am amazed at the name calling people use against him. Man you all sound like Democrats when you do that. It is your way or else they are no good. I think Obama acts like that.
Please stop bashing anyone that may have a chance of beating Obama. If you don’t like him….that is fine……..but the name calling and snide remarks feed to the Democrats more fodder…….I like Newt. I trust he would do what he had to in order to restore and improve our country. I don’t think he is anything like what some people believe. Newt has already lost his ‘home’ state. He now lives in Virginia and isn’t on the ballot there. Romney has been a resident of Mass for 40 years so can‘t really call Michigan his ’home’ state. Your home state is where you reside NOW, now where you lived in the past. Newt‘s argument is ridiculous and if Fox wasn’t so biased they would have called him out.

Newt, along with the other two, have a VERY LONG AND WELL ESTABLISHED history of being progressive, big government loons their whole careers. Apparently everyone magically forget all this over the last few months. I mean it’s not like this information is well hidden either. It’s all right there out in the open. Just do a quick google search. Read their interviews. Look at their voting records.

Yeah, Nert loves America – one woman at a time. He makes Bill Clinton look like a priest. Look, Nutt G(etti)ngrich is (1.) sympathetic to the illegal alien invasion, (2.) has a personal life that would make Larry Flynt blush, and (3.) is a caustic, polemical, offensive buffoon. If you still like him, that’s your business, but if you think he could ever beat Obama, well, you’re just not facing reality. Ron Paul, Romney, Santorum, all would have a good chance to become next president. But this country has seen Nert’s dirty, bizarre, liberal-in-‘conservative’ clothing too many times before to be taken in again.

I am not wild about ANY of the candidates that are still standing after the leftwing hatchet jobs on everybodyhe Demonrats consider a true threat to the Great Eared One. But I fully understand that any ONE of them is a better American and more loyal to this country than that America-hating Communist POS currently squatting in our White House. I say “squatting” because he is not even LEGALLY fit to be President, as according to the Constitution’s definition of “natural born citizen” — a citizen born in the United States of PARENTS who were also born here — he DOES NOT QUALIFY. And every time somebody MENTIONS that inconvenient fact, they are branded a “birther” or some kind of nut case by the hysterical left who foisted this poser on us and are determined to keep him in there long enough to finish the job of destroying this country.

My only prayer is, if he DOES get re-elected and allowed to finish his orgy of destruction, that the “useful idiots” in his orbit suffer a particularly cruel fate. They will assuredly be eliminated, and deserve no less, for having betrayed their country and having sold their heritage for the smelly mess of pottage being peddled by the radical left.

All that being said, I would vote for any of the candidates currently running against Obama, because any ONE Of them would have to be better for the country than him.

Truthfully, listen to what this man says,
take note of his sensible, practical policy & plan for America,
it is ALL anti-establishment, crippling, divisive government
    & PRO-American people.
There is NO way in hell, anyone else is more qualified for presidential leadership.

Gingrich knows this, he knows American history, like no other-
he will serve our country, in the same vein & with the same, unshakeable respect
& due diligence, as our founders.

I don’t care who you are or of what political persuasion-
the time is NOW to get serious, America.
Seldom. does a person come along with Gingrich’s strength.

Quit the childish, shallow, spiteful chattering & jibberish,
conduct yourself, as someone, intent on fixing our country
& give Gingrich the chance to do the same.

    Like “Braveheart”-
he is still, the ONLY one, who can whip Obama
    & carry our colors, forward.

It’s great to see Newt smiling & laughing-
on the contrary, he IS the most jovial, witty & charming candidate, of all.
Pair that, with his extraordinary wisdom & fearlessness
& that’s what you call “Presidential Timber”.

Willard Romney & the others are mere ‘Kindling Wood”.
NO Willard, NO Romney, NO way !

    On a side note-
Callista, please throw out Newt’s purple tie.
Not only is purple, the Union color,
it conjures up images of the Easter Bunny & bad, grape jelly-
To brighten up Newt’s cherubic face, go with deep navy & burgundy.

ambrosia: I appreciate your fine words about Newt. I agree with you. And…if we do not look back at history and understand it, then we cannot go forward…we will make the same mistakes of the past if we do not heed history. Frankly I am amazed at Newt’s depth and wisdom. He is slow and steady, and I hope and pray that he will be our Republican nominee so that he can implement his plan for getting America back on track. We literally stand at a crossroads, and we need to get this whole thing right this time. This country cannot afford four more years of this pretend***er-in-chief, this frau***dulent administration, which should have never happened in the first place. How Obama can r**un again is completely beyond my understanding…what on God’s green earth has happened to American anyway??? It’s time we prayed for some COMMON SENSE, before we lose all sense of our path forward and our destiny.
If we could only remember that we are a BLESSED RACE. Our forefather Jacob blessed our father Joseph and his two sons Ephraim and Manasseh, and they alone were to become the greatest peoples of the earth. Manasseh is The United States of America, and we were destined and blessed to become the greatest single nation on the face of the earth. WHY would we throw that all away? It baffles me! WAKE UP AMERICANS! Vote Newt Gingrich and let him, with the help of God, put this Great Country back together again. It will not be easy…it will take hard work.

hahaha.. I find it hilarious Newt is going to say he has no idea what Mitt is going to say to his donors if he loses Michigan. Newt knows Santorum will lose Pa, ofcourse Newt will win Georgia, I mean , the southerners vote their own kind, we all know this.
I wonder what Newt would say to his single donor, Sheldon Alderson, if he did lose ? haha I wonder what he will say to Sheldon after this is all over having Sheldon now giving Newt 27 Million over his life since being chased out of congress. I wonder if Sheldon will make him his pool boy or something for the rest of his life. Maybe a Bellman at the Casino in China where Newt was meeting with him while on a trip for historical purposes ( wink, wink). If newt does some how magically win, wonder what Sheldon gets for the 27 million ?? I would like Newt to answer this question. I am sure he has an answer since has been being paid to influence politics all his life.
Lastly, you are most likely an Evangelical, right ? Those of you who chose Newt over the actual conservative Santorum, now have to live with your decision so you are not backing down. Maybe I am wrong, but I met a great many Evangelicals, particularly on Palins FB page, who had sold their souls and pulled the lever for Newt even though their convictions really aligned with Santorum. This was easy when Newt appeared to be a winner, for a minute. I do remember, him in Iowa talking about his inauguration. OH yeah, then again in South Carolina…

You, like a lot of “concerned” Americans, have considerable depth,
in recognizing a Leader from another Loser.
America can not afford any more mistakes,
I believe, in their heart & mind, they know Gingrich
is the only man, with a plan, solutions & the tenacity to repeal, all of Obama’s
nightmare policies & start with a clean sheet of paper.

He has stated all the things, he would do, in the first 24 hours of leadership.
He needs to repeat & post the list frequently, so it percolates on voter’s minds.
It’s incredible, how spiritually uplifting, his suggestions & solutions are.

The malaise, Obama has forced upon America,
dissipates & drifts away, as Gingrich clears the way through the destruction.

He is sitting, on the backburner, at the moment…simmering.
Let Willard Romney & Santorum beat each other up-
like you said, Mary, Newt is slow & steady.
American folks are slow & steady, too-
I have a feeling, just like Sarah Palin, in their heart & gut,
they know, Gingrich is the dependable leader, America needs.

Let the crackpots rip him, all they want,
they wouldn’t recognize leadership, if their life depended on it.

Right from the very start, as a statesman, Newt vowed to stay on issue,
Romney & his vicious RNC attacked full-force,
      strangulating Newt’s good intentions.
It was, as much of an attack, on the American people, as it was on Newt.

Romney has lived in Massachusetts for no less than 35 years. That is more than half of his entire life! I consider the place where a person has lived the majority of his/her life to be that person’s “home state”. Massachusetts is Romney’s “home state”, not Michigan. Gingrich needs to focus more energy on his own campaign than worrying about Romney’s.

Exactly. Romney hasn’t lived in Michigan since he left home for college 46 years ago. He’s lived the largest portion of his life in Massachusetts. He‘ll win that state and he’ll pull Michigan out in the end. Gingrich was actually born in Pennsylvania, lived in Georgia, but has spent most of his life just outside of DC in Virginia. Newt couldn‘t even get on the ballot in the state where he’s lived 34 years. Will he win Georgia? It‘ll be close but he’ll lose it to Romney.

Santorum sure is strong in his fascist policies. How many times are we going to sit here and ignore everything he has done in his past? The guy has NEVER tried to limit government. Let alone shrink it.

I would rather take a stand and vote for Paul as a write in then settle for a progressive because he has an R in front of his name.

Now or Never. Ron Paul 2012.

And people scratch their heads and wonder why the Tea Party gets a bad rap.

But oh no we can’t have him become president because of his radical views like putting our interests ahead of every other country and slashing spending,he even wants our wars in the future to be declared by congress,he must be mad for following the constitution.

Newt,Rick,Mitt and Barry are all the same, big government and none of them has said anything about slashing spending.Oh that’s right the Marxist in chief said he would cut 1 trillion over ten years, like I said no cuts from any of them but Paul.

      THE FACTS.

Dr Ron can’t claim purity when it comes to corporate subsidies. The Washington Post reported that he pressed the U.S. energy secretary in 2008 to approve a federal loan guarantee to expand a nuclear facility in Texas.

This contradicts statements Paul made in his 1981 book “Gold, Peace, and Prosperity,” in which he slams federally guaranteed loans, calling them “the most significant contributing factor to our inflation.”

Paul insists that the government should let the free market determine how energy is produced. He told the left-leaning Grist magazine in 2007 that research and development subsidies “are bound and determined to always misdirect money to political cronies,” and he criticized the federal government for providing ethanol subsidies.
Paul tried to help certain industries by co-sponsoring legislation that included tax credits. One bill from 2011 promised ***$5 billion*** in credits to the natural gas industry. Another measure from 2009 promoted fuel efficiency with a $2,000 deduction for individuals who swapped gas guzzlers for fuel-efficient cars.

The Cato Institute, a *** libertarian*** think tank, has said all energy credits and deductions constitute loopholes.

Paul’s proposal to cut 1 Trillion in one year is the economics version of science fiction. We need a president who is grounded in reality, not a guy who has done virtually nothing, saying he can do a lot… in theory. Grandstanding BS.

Far better that Romney. I take offense to your “gangreen” comment in as much as that kind of talk diminishes the conservative ideal. And quite frankly, Gingrich has the experience to drag us UP from the the issues we are dealing with and factually, not Mitt Romney attack ad lies, Newt did balance the budget. Even with Clinton who had to figure out “how do you define what ”is” is.? I’m fine with Santorum. I really believe that if we the people would take a real look at “policy” idea’s. Newt is far ahead.

Hmm, Gingrich seems so quick to suggest when others should drop out of the race while not committing to do so if HE loses GA (not so sure you may win your own home state after all, Mr. Gingrich??). Can you say, “hypocrite?!?”

Gingrich is far too eager (even for a candidate) for others to drop out. He must be VERY insecure. Are we hearing the others suggesting candidates drop out? If so, I haven’t heard them–has Romney, Paul, or Santorum suggested any of the others drop out?

Seems this is only Gingrich’s gig.

Probably because he isn’t so sure of winning should the others stay in the race.

Mr. Tell-Others-To-Drop-Out, I hope you lose GA. In fact, I live in GA and you can count on the fact I will NOT be voting for you. As a matter of fact, the more you open your mouth lately, the LESS likely I am to vote for you!

Romney’s negative ads have reached Michigan. I am not impressed. I’m hoping the good people of Michigan vote for Newt Gingrich, who has real solutions to the real problems that Americans face. I went back and listened to Newt’s CP**AC speech and took notes. He alone clearly articulates what we face, and what he would do about it. Newt brings to the table in an intelligible and transparent way how to deal with taxes, regulations, our energy supply, immigration, our military, and so much more.
There is coming change to Washington. Either we will continue the destructive path of the Obama administration as they transform America and stomp on the Constitution, OR we will elect someone like Newt Gingrich who will protect our Constitution and our laws and make America great in the eyes of the world again.

abbygirl1994: I care what Newt has to say. Apparently you have not been listening to what Newt is saying. Did you listen to his CPAC speech? He outlined a lot of his agenda, and I’m hard pressed to wonder what exactly you did not like about it. He knows how to get America working again. He will repeal Obamacare. He will abolish the czars. He will approve the Canadian pipeline. He will stop sending money for abortions overseas. He will repeal every act of religious bigotry that the Obama administration has proposed and passed. He will repudiate 40% of Obama’s government when he (Newt) becomes President. He will and knows how to create jobs and get Americans back to working again. And there is so much more. Go back and listen to his CPAC speech which he outlines so clearly. And abbygirl, which one of those are you opposed to? If not Newt…who then?
If you are against Newt, who can do an awesome job as President, and get us all back on track, you are playing right into the hands of the left who want nothing more than to destroy Newt’s chances of becoming the Republican nominee, because the left and Obama do not want to meet Newt in any debate for the President of the United States. They would never defeat Newt on a level playing field, and even the left/democrats understand that. Calling Newt an angry man, and demeaning Newt will not work. If we are honest with ourselves, we would have to admit that Newt is the best candidate to defeat Obama.

Please stop with the Progressive Label
Newt’s not a progressive He said he admired
a couple of progressive presidents. (Wilson,FDR)
But his Record is Conservative (Ronald Reagan,
      Balanced Budget,Contract with America,Welfare Reform)
He was taken out as Speaker because he pushed for
A Balanced Budget Amendment an Term Limits both of
which were part of the Contract with America.
But neither the Repub‘s or Dem’s want to actually have to
