Gingrich’s Criteria for Muslim Presidential Candidate: Person Must ‘Reject Sharia Law’

Newt Gingrich Explains that a Muslim U.S. President Must Reject Sharia Law

During a campaign stop in South Carolina former House Speaker and GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich was asked if he could ever support a Muslim American for president. He answered that it would “entirely depend if they give up sharia.”

“I am totally opposed to sharia law,” he added.

“If they are a modern person integrated into the modern world and prepared to recognize all religions that’s one thing,” Gingrich began. “If they are the Saudis who demand that we respect them while they refuse to allow either a Jew or Christian to worship in Saudi Arabia, that’s something different.”

Gingrich also pointed out that the Islamization of Turkey — once a country that prided itself on its Western sense and sensibilities — has resulted in a 1400 percent increase in women’s murders.

He added:

“I think we need a president who stands up, tells the truth, and rejects any kind of effort to impose on us a sense of guilt because we believe in our religion and we are prepared to tell the truth and I am totally opposed to a State Department meeting a week ago with the organization of Islamic countries who are seeking to censor any comment about Islam because I think it is a fundamental violation of our right of free speech as Americans…But within that framework a truly modern person who happened to worship would not be a threat. A person who belonged any kind of belief in sharia, any kind of effort to impose that on the rest of us, would be a mortal threat.”

    How do you Newt fans respond to the audio Glenn has been airing where
    Newt says “I am a Real Politic Wilsonian” and also “I’m a Teddy Roosevelt Progressive”???
    Now, when Conservatism is back in vogue, he flips like a pancake on a well greased pan.
    Yes I know he did conservative things back in the 1990′s but I believe the quotes above
    are from AFTER that period. He also declared “The era of Reagan is over”. Answers

      I used to believe in global warming, I used to think when I heard a candidate say they were a Progressive Democrat/Republican it meant they wanted to move forward and improve things, I used to think FDR was a great president because he got us out of the Great Depression, and when I heard Newt report Reaganomics is dead (that one is totally taken out of context, it was said in sarcasm, watch the whole speech).

      You know what I found out about all these things and I changed my mind? I found out they were all lies and liberal twist, and your questions are all coming out of the Saul Alynski Progressive playbook and from the sounds of it, you are just happy and hunky-dory with the way things are going. Me, I defended this country for more than 26 years not so I could become some third world country I visited over the years, and definitely not like any European socialist entitlements country, so, since I was alive during the Reagan and Newt years, the thing I don’t remember seeing in the news is, I remember Newt was having more people fighting him because he was trying to do the right thing for the country more than most, and I am sure working for Slick Willie wasn’t the easiest thing to do, and look what he got accomplished in that situation, so guess what he could do for this country if he was limited by how fast he could get things changed in the House and Senate.

      I can’t believe Palin just came out and said that she would vote Gingrich in SC. ( http://url2it.com/lhld ) She is completely a disappointment now. She said she wouldn’t vote for a crony capitalist, Gingrich is the worst kind, possibly fighting against the right, remember that he won’t release the contract with Freddie Mac which may spell this out exactly. She said she wouldn’t vote for a career politician, who is the longest running career politician, Gingrich. And what about the fact that he is the largest big government candidate that we have.

      AT LEAST SHE COULD HAVE VOTED FOR SANTORUM. BUT HE TOO IS A CAREER POLITICIAN. ROMNEY AND PERRY ARE THE ONLY TWO LEFT THAT ARE WHAT SHE WANTED IN A CANDIDATE, YET PERRY WAS FOUND TO PROMOTE HIS BIG DONORS. SO ROMNEY WAS THE ONLY CHOICE LEFT. DISAPPOINTING

      EVERY word is being scrutinized by the pundits, to the max. Although Newt saying he’s a TR Republican, listen to the big government entities he wants to gut.
      Palin is trying to encourage the contest to go on, so as to weed-out the phonies. That may be our best chance.
      I wonder what we all would think if Newt called on Michele Bachman to be his running mate???

      I love Glenn Beck but a bit upset at him for how he treats Newt so unfairly. Newt is not a progressive, and deserves our respect. I just think Beck has it wrong about him, and Newt would the best choice for the country. Newt has no fear of the truth, and I believe he means what he says and says what he means! Forgive his past and give him this chance to beat Obama and debate Obama, he can win!

      I think this question should be posed to all the candidates. It would be interesting to hear what they have to say. For me, the only one not afraid of the left and can defeat Obama is Newt. He said on CSPAN yesterday that the attacks are nothing right now compared to what is to come with the billion dollars Obama plans on using for attacks. Romney stumbled the other night. Imagine him facing BO’s attacks. No, Newt said he can handle the attacks and I believe he can. His quick come backs to the gotcha questions are right on.

      I agree with Newt. If you are born and raised here (prove it), and are a Jewish American, Christian American, Catholic American, Buddhist American, Daoist American…you can be president. Just have the education, experience and the heart and mind of a free American, why not?

      Furthermore, there is only ONE God. So if you believe in God, it’s the same God! There are different religions all over the world. God made it that way. God knew when He scattered people around the world that skin, eye and hair color would change, He knew that language, philosophy and beliefs would change. Everything is made by ONE GOD!       Well, I noticed you said I think in many of your sentences, if these things WERE accurate I would believe that to be an EFFECTIVE politician over many years with the changing beliefs and what is considered the popular belief, EVERY good politican has to roll with the tide. Now having said that there is a LIMIT to that roll and what I mean by that is if the politician WORKS FOR THE PEOPLE and his change has MEANT A BETTER ECONONIC STATUS and overall BETTER position for Americans then it was worth the change and the roll really makes NO DIFFERENCE at all! For instance, many have bad feelings toward Gingrich because of what he did that they feel got Clinton re-elected. For that I say they think much too much of themselves and give Gingrich much too much credit! We were doing GREAT in the Clinton years! and part in partial of that WAS DUE TO GINGRICHS EFFORTS, so to say that with what they got done the Americans would say even though we are all doing BETTER lets just throw out Clinton? No, what the Republican WANTED was for Gingrich to do what the Republicans are doing NOW…create GRIDLOCK, get nothing done, HURT the American People so they will FEEL as well as believe Obama is a bad President and the Republicans can take back the White House. Newt Gingrich WILL NOT SELL OUT THE COUNTRY TO APPEASE the Republican BASE!!! And you have seen that with your own eyes during this election. That is the kind of Leader I want in the White House.

    If anything, there is one side that I like of Newt. And that is he is the only one who has addressed the danger that the US could be open to an EMP attack. Forget terrorists nuking a city, just a couple of nukes detonated a hundred miles or so above North America would send us back into the 19th century.

    Only with 300 million mouths to feed.

    When he said in the last debate that we should “kill our enemies”, that is the reason.

      Ever since Cain was forced out of the race, I’ve been a Newt supporter. It is the first major disagreement I have with Glenn. I just do not see the same thing that Glenn sees in him. Newt has faults and baggage, but considering the amount of trouble this country is in, we desperately need a man with the kind of vision, historical knowledge, and God-given talent that the man possesses. It also helps that he would wipe the floor with O-blame-A in the debates. I knew all along that Cain would likely not get the nomination, but I just hated to see him taken down in the way that was done to him. (By that vicious Gloria Allred).

      @Bodybag: Thanks for the link to the Bozell artricle. Nice piece and I too think that Newt is the one who can really take it to the one in the White House. I also like Romney . It has to be one of the two, but having McCain stumping for him, I don’t think does Mitt any good. Like the kiss of death. If Newt can keep from letting his anger get the best of hime, I think he could win this contest. We each, as voters should be able to think for ourselves and not listen to anything, but what we hear with our own ears. We should not be sheep.

This article will help in my fight. It is past time to kill political correctness in DC and turn this country around and I think Newt is the man to do it, not ‘ready to go along’ Romney.

    I’m for Romney, he followed through on his campaign promises as governor . He kept he promise and commitment to his partner in life , his wife, and family . I trust he will follow through on his promises to the American people. Appears to me to be a exceptional honest and trustworthy man.
    Can’t say the same for Newt. I don‘t trust Newt and hope this angry vindictive person doesn’t get power.

      That is what Muslims think of us. In their eyes, WE are not worthy of living.

      Name just one other religion, that says kill everyone who doesn’t follow our Bible and our law.
      I’ve never heard of a Baptist, Lutheran, Mormon, Catholic, or Jewish church, call for beheading of infidels.

      Only Islam (Muslims) demands everyone follow their (Bible) Quran and Sharia Law to the letter or be killed.
      If you would research the Quran, you would know the truth about Islam.
      You would know what they are trying to do, all over the world, not just in America.

      LEADNOTFOLLOW, at the risk of sounding racist, I have to say if the day comes that a muslim is elected to be president of The United States we will be finished as a country. I am sorry but that could never work. Is it possible? Yes unfortunately, and it scares the crap out of me. I am not trying to be mean but I do not think western civilization as we know it would survive. The cultures and beliefs are to different and America would no longer exist.

    The quran instructs them to lie to “infidels” when they’re put in a position where they start squirming. They’re not to be trusted. Any muslim that rejects sharia is subject to being stoned to death so I wouldn’t trust their word any further than I can spit. Absolutely no muslims, especially the Catholic-turned-muslim hypocrites like keith ellison, have any business or standing to “uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, so help me God”, as their OATH OF OFFICE commands.     Would someone please explain why the Obama government and the media are referring to Americans who believe in Islam & Sharia Law as Muslim-Americans??!! Stop it! If it keeps up, we should allow every other religioius/non-religious group to be designated by their beliefs. Aetheists would be known as Atheist-Americans. Or, if Mitt Romney makes it to the White House, he would be the first Mormon-American elected President. How about a Christian-American? Absolutely NOT! Why, just the mention of Christ or God is an anathema to non-conservatives today. And, as President Obama said in his inaugural speech, the USA is no longer a Christian nation. But we are, I gather, an Islam/Muslim nation?!

    Today, I watched an episode of “Dennis The Menace” which was first aired in October 1962 — fifty years ago … half a century ago. In the scene where a woman was being sworn in to give testimony in Court, with her left hand on the Christian bible, and right hand held in the air, she was told to repeat the standard phrase about telling the truth. But then where the part “so help me God” was to be said, the word “God” was omitted, leaving the woman saying, “so help me,” and then taking her seat in the witness chair.

    I think now I understand Ronald Reagan’s deep concern for the future of America. Because he’d seen the “roaring lion” devouring society 20 or more years before taking his own oath of office as President. Oh, for another Reagan in the Oval office.

    I dont want Sharia Law…I dont want ANY new laws from politicians concerning religion. The DOMA act is the most idiotic law of all time. We have to define marriage by law now? get the F’ing Government out of marriage and the problem is solved. No licenses, no being married by judges. None of that crap anymore. Let the Churches handle marriage…

    Santorun, Newt and Romney all are going to change the landscape with new laws that will do nothing but bring on new problems. The only solution is to return to the Constitution. Yank the welfare state away from the teat suckers and stop the nation building BS.

I bet the majority of the people would not want Sharia law…if you know nothing about Sharia Law you should move to a nation that imposes it on their people…Or you could go to some place in Canada where they are allowed to have Sharia Law.
