Glenn Beck Calls for ‘Largest Day of Fundraising’ for Chamber of Commerce

Fed up with unsubstantiated accusations claiming the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is funneling foreign money into political campaigns, Glenn Beck is encouraging his listeners to shower the Chamber with “record-breaking” support. By mid-morning he had achieved his goal.
“I would like to have this [be] the largest day of fundraising for the Chamber of Commerce ever,” Beck said. While calling for action on air Thursday morning, Beck walked his readers through the donation process and pledged a $10,000 gift to the organization:
“Let’s break all records. Let’s show these people that we actually believe in something different than what Barack Obama and Joe Biden are saying,” Beck said, after explaining that the Chamber is “fighting” for small businesses and being demonized by the administration.
“They are us,” he said of the Chamber. “Put your money where you mouth is.”
Beck put a link up on his website where listeners can donate directly to the Chamber. That link can be seen here.*
According to Executive Vice President of the Chamber Bruce Josten, Beck achieved his goal. Within an hour Beck and his listeners had broken the single-day donation record:
The Chamber responded to the accusations on its website. “This allegation is … false and baseless, not to mention tiresome and desperate,” said one of the organization’s blog posts.
The post went on to explain:
The U.S. Chamber hosts several business councils, whose purpose is to promote bilateral trade and investment between the two countries. They are run as independent organizations and most members of business councils are not also members of the U.S. Chamber.
For those business councils affiliated with us, their monies are considered “restricted funds” and are held for use by those business councils. These councils have been around for decades. They have never engaged in political activity–and they never will.
Recently, Vice President Joe Biden challenged the Chamber to provide the public with a figure explaining how much foreign money it receives and donates to political causes. In another blog post, the Chamber gave an answer: “Zero. As in, ‘Not a single cent.’”
Listeners can donate to the Chamber here.*
(Editor’s note: this is a breaking story. Updates may be added throughout the day.)
*Due to overwhelming response, the Chamber requested the donation links be updated to allow listeners to contribute using the following link: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Nation. The links in the story reflect the update.

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 10:56amWe’ve tried to donate, but apparently the site is overloaded with donations. HOW WONDERFUL!!! Keep going, AMERICA. With GOD’s help and intervention, we will stand again. We will continue throughout the day trying to donate to the USCC….We believe in AMERICA, free enterprise and most of all, our GOD, the GOD of the Jews and the Christians. HE made you. HE loves you. And, HE wants you to come “home” to HIM. Let’s “get on it and get `er done”. As a rejected parent, we understand a little more of GOD’s love for HIS child who cannot or will not love HIM back. It hurts, but it doesn’t stop our loving our child. GOD is the same way with us: HE loves us in spite of our rejections of or lack of acknowledgment of HIM as our FATHER. Be good to be in HIS loving arms, figuratively and literally one day. In the meantime, please accept our “hug” to you on HIS behalf.

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 10:53amHere’s how the Chamber’s foreign fundraising operation works…
Report Post »The Chamber has an international division devoted to promoting free trade and related policy issues. U.S. Chamber staffers, based here in Washington, D.C. with offices in the Chamber’s building at 1615 H Street, create bilateral “Business Councils” fundraising programs to solicit money from foreign corporations in Korea, Egypt, Brazil, Bahrain, India, and other places. For instance, the Chamber’s US-Egypt Business Council directs potential members to wire their checks to the US Chamber of Commerce. The application also notes that checks should be marked “ATTN: Leila Vossoughi.” Vossaoughi is a regular staffer at the Chamber. Promotions to join the Chamber have included promises that foreign firms obtain “access to the US Chamber of Commerce and everything that it does” and pledges to help the foreign firms promote free trade policies in America. All of the staffers who manage the Business Councils work directly for the Chamber. Bylaws from the US-Bahrain Business Council confirm that the money the U.S. Chamber raises from these applications — which welcome foreign-owned businesses — goes into the Chamber’s 501(c).

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 12:58pmWait wait wait – the Chamber of Commerce didn’t support Obamacare – what it is doing, however, is endorsing candidates who support it (like Manchin in W.Va). The CoC, is pushing back for the sake of the small businesses it supports and is getting heat from the Administration because of it – so that tells me they are worth supporting for sure – even though some of their endorsements make me scratch my head.

My husband owns a small bsuiness and is so frustrated with all the the outlandish new regulations that have come down in the past 18 months. I betcha that by the end of this weekend some liberal group will have to respond with a donation blitz of their own.. They can’t take it when conservatives support Glenn in such a huge manner. Remember 8/28!!!!!!

Posted on October 15, 2010 at 10:34amSo let me see if I have this right,
The director of Chamber of Commerce is on the record stating that “outsourcing jobs is a good thing”.
Three of the “FOREIGN” companies that have donated to the Chamber specialize in outsourcing “AMERICAN” jobs to third world countries.
The Chamber then runs attack ads against democratic candidates for “losing” jobs in their states.
And now Glenn wants you to “DONATE” to the very organization that is working to send “YOUR” jobs overseas.
So you’re paying to make yourselves unemployed, and then complaining that there are so many people on unemployment?
Do I have this right?????

Posted on October 15, 2010 at 12:12pmI gotta disagree with Glenn on this one. I think donations would be better spent on conservative candidates that are in tough races. In general, I support the Chamber, but they do support some things that I disagree with vehemently, such as comprehensive immigration reform. I think getting pro-business candidates elected will support the Chamber better in the long run. Appreciate the sentiment, just think it’s off the mark.

Posted on October 15, 2010 at 1:26pmThe only companies that actually benefit from the chambers efforts are financial companies, American companies that sell or buy bulk overseas and any and all foreign industry that want to sell here from overseas, many mom and pop’s will join and continue to be members at that level for a bit an of advantage over their local competitors and some EXCLUSIVE type deals here and there but they never financially boom from being a member,
period,
the us chambers biggest influence on American business is the push for American companies to send their jobs overseas, ask Campbell Hounsfield, used to be very proud to be MADE IN AMERICA, now with the push from the us chamber and walmart…..all china baby, and they have done this with hundreds and hundreds of American companies.
the chamber does industry, both literally and figuratively, they don’t want the hundreds or thousands of dollars from some American drywall manufacturer, they want the 100 million from the chinese construction supply industry, so that deadly drywall gets in quick and quiet like.
in this situation, the chamber will get credit for helping the drywall mfg acquire drywall at a better rate, which works great for the business owner, he only needs warehouse people, no more trade or skilled positions, minimal full timers since a temp service can provide 15 new $8 an hour guys everyday.
across the board, not just the consumer goods, clothes, electronics, tools, auto parts etc.
but 5 years ago you couldn’t find a chinese made cabinet door or hardware, now, everywhere
now multiply that to literally every industry, every product we buy…
the us chamber of commerce is the pimp in this process, they get the fee for introducing our money to foreign takers or the American companies that make up that top 2%.
I challenge you to find a single radar worthy position or action they’ve taken, that doesn’t bet against the actual American working family.
This is what is going to finish off our economy, we will become essentially a giant flea market for the worlds goods,
and that is exactly what the us chamber is banking on and pushing for and you are funding it……………we are doomed.
maybe you like the toxic chinese water jugs or the 3 dollar shoes at walmart, but I think its offensive,
some day all of our children really will pay for this insanity, its not the left or right, they screw us equally, its us that are allowing this to happen,
NOW…. send the chamber a few more bucks and go to shop at walmart to put another american out of work you PATRIOTS

Posted on October 15, 2010 at 2:27pmI would do a little research on how the chamber ships our jobs overseas….before contributing to them. Why do you think it’s been illegal to use foreign money to use in political campaigns. I am really worried
Report Post »about the people here so blindly following Becks ideas when at the end of the day it will result in the
End of America that you all want back so much. Please use more critical thinking. Please look into
the difference between the US Chamber of Commerce and the local ones…HUGE!! God Bless You
