Glenn Beck & ‘The View’ Trade Barbs in Biblical Debate

On their Tuesday show, the women of ABC’s “The View” discussed Glenn Beck’s recent comments that the earthquake in Japan may be a message from God.
Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar, two of the show’s most outspoken hosts, criticized Beck, who said on his Monday show that the the world’s events may be a “message” sent from God. The message, he said, was “‘hey, you know that stuff we’re doing? Not really working out real well. Maybe we should stop doing some of it.’”
“Which commandment does he want us to follow?” Behar said. “Thou shalt not build a reactor near the water?”
“If this is because we’re misbehaving and God is pissed, I would check the mirror, Glenn,” Goldberg responded.
“How about ‘thou shalt not advance your career on the back of the Japanese people right now?’” Behar added.
Taking to his radio show the next day, Beck reiterated that people should work to turn back to faith and God. “Man’s actions don’t control the planet’s earthquakes. But man’s actions do control the earthquakes that are happening in our society,” he said.

Posted on March 16, 2011 at 8:40pmWhat is your point? Don’t use the word “Christ” in a city name?
If there were a god who used natural disasters to make a point, why would he hit a churć and not a gay bar or the MCC? Why reason could there be for not being direct? It makes no sense. Unless it’s random and someone sifts through hundreds of instances to find something that sounds remotely causal.

Posted on March 16, 2011 at 8:26pmThe American woman is exactly the opposite of what God thinks is beautiful. Jesus said that a quiet and meek spirit is of high price in the eyes of God. Not today. We have a bunch of filthy mouthed vulgar females that are of the Jezebel spirit. I know that there are some truely godly women who are an asset to their children and husbands but they are few. A woman that makes her husband ashamed is like rotteness in his bones (proberbs) The same goes for the men being godly husband and fathers, they need to be the head in a way that they would not expect a woman to do what they would not want to do. In fact, they are to be the servant of the family, not a ruling bully.

Posted on March 16, 2011 at 8:21pmThe ladies’ comments are crass, but Glenn set himself up for this one. It does not matter how fervent our faith is, we should never with our little pea brains try to suppose what God is doing with world events. His ways are higher than our ways. He even admonishes us through the prophets to not try to figure Him out. We would do well to watch world events, both man-made and natural, and balance what we see happening against biblical prophecy. But to say things like “God is doing this because of ____” is presumptuous, reckless, and I think irreverent.

Posted on March 16, 2011 at 8:03pmThis may piss some off…especially the way I am about to put it…But I find something most ironic, and Glenn has mentioned it too along with much of the media. Japan is indeed very low on Christians. Not hardly any at all, a few missionaries…And maybe God does have a hand in these disasters, but I am not going there. That is like that fool Pat Robertson with the Haiti quake. It was an idiotic statement. This is an evil world and evil happens…Maybe it was God but we cannot…should not go there…
But check this…Japan has embarrassed us big time, and most of the rest of the world too. Look how they act! No riots, no looting…Nothing but politeness and helping each other. It is a cultural thing but they put Christians to shame!!! THIS is how WE are supposed to act towards each other, but what do we do? Just look at WI. Just look at all the union thugs. Look at Katrina. As a Christian I am shamed. I see it often enough in this country when I look at how atheists generally act compared to Christians. A few months ago we blew out a tire on the way home from church. I limp the car to a convenience store and go to change the tire…easy job, right? The cheap factory jack collapsed under the car dropping the car and just catching my hand. I am bleeding, car on the ground, and I am standing there watching all the church people drive by looking. It was a young dude in a pair of shorts, flip flops and a beat up truck who stopped and asked if I needed anything…I see this time and time again.
We need to take a lesson from Japan. As a culture we have all but failed. As Christians we have all but failed…

Posted on March 16, 2011 at 8:58pmThere is no ******* me off on this one. The trouble is what is (or isn’t) being taught in “christian” churches. Light on Bible, heavy on feelings. No one really knows much about how the Bible teaches us to be. By our fruit they will know us. Churches by and large have failed. The Word was poured out to all flesh, and the fact is most reject it. They may attend a “church” but are they being guided properly to be what they are supposed to be? Or are they gettin down with the jehovah java, the “worship team” and the “tithing” which NO-ONE seems to understand. Religion is all about the money, and for the money they deliver a product.

Posted on March 17, 2011 at 10:41amTolltrainer you nailed it my friend. I too as a Christian man is shamed on how well the Japanese are treating each other! Not very many Christians there and there is no looting, no rioting and no one dying. I heard a story where this Japanese man went down to grab some bottled water, he took the remaining ten and left none. Halfway to where he was going he stopped, turned around and replaced 8 bottles of water and only kept two! Could you see someone in America doing this? Hell we can’t even say that after Katrina! I do believe that this earthquake is a way God is showing his people on how to react to a crisis! We all would do well to learn this lesson when time comes in this country. And that will be soon.

It might have some of the same attributes of doing good to others but it lacks faith in a higher being. Buddhists believe that you can become God like by doing good, believers in Christ believe that you do good because it proves your faith. Because the bible says, For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:(Ephesians 2:8). So good works will not “save” you but it is true “Faith” in a loving and merciful God.

I have to disagree. According to Glenn and the Bible, there is no “collective salvation”. Therefore, there is no collective punishment. There is individual punishment and salvation. Ezekiel 18:4. God does punish us individually and I know a thing or two about that, Ouch! However, he’s right, I mean correct, in stating that the situation in Japan is not punishment from God, but a natural disaster. On the other hand, the guy who got swept off by the tidal wave in California, might be punishment, I think.

4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Posted on March 17, 2011 at 12:35amWhy oh why… does Glenn do this to himself???
Actually, I’m glad that some people, like Glenn and Bill O’Reilly, have the guts to go on that stupid show and give the adult view of the world. Or is it just that Whoopi has the HollyWood view, and Behar has the Alien view (as in Mars)?

Posted on March 17, 2011 at 12:43amNice try Blaze, and Blazers, for trying to deflect the craziness of Glenn’s remarks to anger against The View hosts. Here’s what Glenn said:
“God — what God does is God’s business, I have no idea. But I’ll tell you this: whether you call it Gaia or whether you call it Jesus — there’s a message being sent. And that is, ‘Hey, you know that stuff we’re doing? Not really working out real well. Maybe we should stop doing some of it.‘ I’m just sayin’.”
Glen says that God is sending a message that “we” are doing something wrong. What message was God sending with Hurricane Katrina?
Blazers, don’t claim that Beck if is off the hook when he precedes a remark with “I’m not saying that…” and then goes on to say that exact thing. That’s clever, claiming you’re not saying something, and then stating outright that same thing. But that doesn’t wash. Beck’s explicit, stated claim is that the earthquake is Japan is a message from God that “we should stop some of it.”
The idea of pointing to natural disasters and saying that it shows God is displeased with us is as old as humankind. Katrina was a God‘s punishment for America’s tolerance of gays and not being prepared for a terrorist attack according to some Evangelists. Okay whatever.
To many of you Glenn Beck is a profit, explaining to you God’s will through current events. That‘s so similar to the pattern of false Prophets since mankind began it’s creepy to me.
Believe what you want. But my opinion is that Glenn Beck is not the selfless Christian you imagine him to be: someone you say has special insight into God’s mind, someone with special insight into politics, the economy, government and the mind of every group he singles out for disparagement.
I think he’s making money off of your fears and prejudices. He certainly making money, a whole lot of money. He’s a multi-millionaire. You tell me if he’s motivated by profit, or if by a selfless desire to serve Christ.

Posted on March 17, 2011 at 1:33amIn the Doctrine and Covenants that Joseph Smith believed to be Gods direction of how to set up his church in the last days is a very accurate prophesy. This is off the top of my mind, somewhere between 1830-1835 in one of the passages it says within this generation there will be war, famine, disease and death. A generation is forty years. The civil war happened within 40 years of this statement. I believe when I did the research it was almost exactly 40 years. It surprised me!! Could we be living in the end times? Good question. In Revelations it speaks about an earthquake that the likes have never been seen, nuclear war perhaps, and many other terrible things. One prophesy that stands out is when it mentions that in these last days people will be looking at the weather and questioning it. Isn’t one of the biggest conversations on global warming? Almost all of politics has centered themselves around this. Also that a blight will form and destroy a third of all the trees and animals. A third of the Aspen trees in Colorado have died in the last 5 years from a blight. In research I have found out that this blight is world wide effecting many different trees. Beetles in the Western United states especially Colorado have destroyed many pines. Go to Grand Lake, Colorado and look around. Everywhere you look as far as you can see the trees are dead. Even in the early days shepards new that Jesus would be born thousands of years before he was born. They were told by Angels to look for the signs of the times. That’s how they knew about the north star and where Jesus would be born, Bethlehem. It’s not so different today then from those days. Even if these were the last days it would be great to see the signs be true. Evil cannot contend with God anyways. At least we would see an end to corruption and murder for a bit. I guess that is why it is called the Great and terrible day of the Lord. If you have never read the Book of Mormon it even has a section on a record of a group of people that came from the Tower of Babel. It describes how they let corruption and greed destroy their great civilization. When crooked politicians and judges came into power they ended up removing anyone that believed in God by murder. They ended up sacrificing them in their temples and even feeding the husband and sons to the captured women. Even if you don’t believe that the Book of Mormon has any value it is worth reading. The question I had was, if there are many different cultures and they all have written histories that we are finding these days. For example the Phoenicians cuneiform, the Book of Judas Iscariot, and many other archeological finds. Why would I read those and not read the Book of Mormon? Why would I favor one over the other? What if the things men were looking to achieve were right underneath our noses? What if when Jesus said, “I must visit my lost sheep” that he literally meant that he was going to visit a race of people somewhere else? I feel like when we stop asking ourselves questions we stop learning.

Posted on March 17, 2011 at 2:58amBeck: “Can we connect with all ten?” Well, that pesky number 4 and you would say, ‘no’.
To put it more clearly than Beck. This is the point of any disaster, to us as believers (a much better term than “christians” or “judeo-christian”):
Luke 13
Repent or Perish
1 At that time, some people came and reported to Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. 2 And He responded to them, “Do you think that these Galileans were more sinful than all Galileans because they suffered these things? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as well! 4 Or those 18 that the tower in Siloam fell on and killed—do you think they were more sinful than all the people who live in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as well!”
p.s. Notice… “perish”… not burn in an eternal tormenting Dante-like, greek mythology hades.

The View averages 7-8 million viewers a day.
Beck averages 2 million viewers. Nuff said!

Thats true. There are many many more women on welfare who have nothing to do after their kids are in daycare ( public schools)
than
there are people who have jobs to go to, businesses to run, and get involved with their kids’ life
