Glenn Becks Take on Bus Bullying Video and What It Says About Issues in Our Society

The unbelievable video of at first seemingly normal schoolchildren near Rochester, New York, unleashing ten straight minutes of verbal abuse directed at 68-year-old bus monitor Karen Klein went viral Wednesday. The Blaze was one of the first national outlets to report on the disturbing story, and the silver-lining for Mrs. Klein who will at least receive over $300,000 from complete strangers who put together an online fundraiser to pay for a much-deserved vacation for the grandmother. While the fundraising campaign is a compassionate act, it should not tie a happy ending bow on the story that brings national attention to growing problems within our society that need to be addressed. During his GBTV program Thursday, Glenn Beck broke down the painful-to-watch video, as well as what the ordeal reveals about deeper issues with the way we raise our kids and confront cruelty.

As described by Beck, the video shows the early signs of individuals who now malevolently attack Ms. Klein unprovoked on the bus as kids, but will grow up to be the type of people who advocate policy that knowingly cuts off support for the elderly or physically challenged as means to support the self interests of the irresponsible.

“This goes far beyond just kids saying stupid things,” Beck said Thursday. “I shudder to think what these kids will look like when they are 25 years old.

“In another decade from now, when some spineless politician is looking for some scape goat for the economic disaster they‘ve created and they’ll say ‘You know who’s causing it? Those fat people. Those old people. They’re costing us so much money! Get them!’ You think these kids will have a problem with that?”

While commending those who have supported Mrs. Klein, Beck demanded that the media and Americans do not just move on from this story after hearing that the terrorized bus monitor will get a deserved vacation. Four questions come to mind after watching this horrific display of inconsideration and cruelty:

  1. What can we do differently?
  2. What’s the school doing to punish and prevent this behavior?
  3. Where are the parents?
  4. How many of us have kids like this and have no clue?

Beck pointed out that the story in Rochester plays into broader points he has made in regards to a negative shift in the culture and character of our society. Acknowledging media outcry following perceived statements he made last week, Beck cleared up that “I don’t hate Glee,” referring to the FOX teen drama-musical set in a midwestern high school.

“I hate the culture they’re promoting. It is a consequence-free culture,” said Beck. “It’s quite a statement on our current societal values that my view on personal responsibility, decency, truth, honor, respect, love– that thats the controversial one.”

 

“It’s a mistake to shrug this off as kids being stupid,” exclaimed Beck. “It’s a horrible mistake.

“We have to correct, we have to put our own morals and values back into the system. If you take them out, if you’re neutral, someone else will put morals and values in. If that doesn‘t happen they’re just filled up with whatever is around.”

Beck closed his segment on the issue by pointing to the experience, words, and wisdom of Abraham Lincoln.

During his second inaugural address deep into the morally challenging and nation straining Civil War, Lincoln preached faith to fight off feelings of surrender within the American people:

“Yet, if God wills that it continue until all the wealth piled by the bondsman’s two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said ‘The judgements of the lord are true and righteous altogether.’”

Why reference this quote? We can’t throw a check at and then forget, or ignore, the struggles of our people. As our society stands now, every day we add more hatred, more anger, more rage, more kids bully bus monitors–the more we do this, the higher the price we pay. We need to step to the plate and show kindness, compassion, and conviction in the face of what is wrong. Referencing Lincoln’s second inaugural address again:

“With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds..”

“Restore love,” Beck said in closing.

    Unfortunately, this started a long time ago. Anyone that breeds animals knows that when you breed an aggressive being to another aggressive being the progeny will be more aggressive with each successive generation that are born…for example, pit bulls. Liberals are breeding thier ideas more and more aggressive with every generation born. I believe it is going to get worse before it gets better. We need to pay closer attention to our children than we have been in the last 50 years.

      I totally agree with Glenn, where are the parents in this? I also believe that this has been going on for a very long time now. We need to start teaching our kids the same respect that we were taught. You’ll get arrested anymore for simply disciplining your own kids.       They learned bullying from the likes of glenn beck and the rightwing media;demonizing ,arrogant and war mongering.beck wants to see world war 3unleashed against muslim’arabs and iran. he and others made their careers demonizing either europeans or muslims and now the gets all self righteous when american children act like the bully adults on a smaller scale.     I’ve noticed this attitude among children for the past 30 years or more. Of course they act like little angels when they are with their parents..even adult children of parents act differently when confronted with an even older adult parent. If you folks out there haven’t learned this by now, than you are as dumb as the pavement you walk upon. I don’t even have bratty kids and I notice it on a constant basis how out of control they are..and that is why i don’t have much hope for our future as a nation.

      The public school system has failed the American student and their parents. These children know no discipline because the left has made it illegal to use capital punishment against children.

      There is no threat of reprecussion for these students, their parents won’t be allowed to spank them and all the school will do is kick them off the bus for a few weeks, making the children’s punishment the parents punishment.

      Children need immediate reinforcement for wrong doing. Just as they grasp instant gratification to entertain themselves they need to receive immediate capital punishment for their deserving actions.

      You want collectivism, the principal of the school should paddle each and every student on the bus for acting in such a manner, and to those who sat and did nothing to stop it they deserve to be punished with the rest.

      The parents and the school district should be held accountable.

      The next week I would have a newly returned soldier on the bus as the monitor.

      Something’s going to give, the childrens behavior I would suppose.

      I would also suggest that the states be given the education of the children and they should look to hire retired military for their teachers. Nothing can be learned without discipline, and it is obvious there is no discipline in the entire school system, if there were you wouldn’t have children acting like this to an elderly person.

      Actually, the left has no more control over the schools, than the taunters had over the attacked lady. The schools SHOULD BE CONTROLLED BY THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, NOBODY else. NOT the “left.” And the federal government has NO AUTHORITY to dictate ANYTHING. But we let them! Just like the lady and the kids.

      The parents and the school district should be held accountable… BY WHOM? You? Beck? Unless we are PERSONALLY involved, it’s simply none of our business.

      But your authoritarian remedy, including military, is chilling. Absolutely chilling. As it’s EXACTLY HOW THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT PLANNERS WANT YOU TO THINK! They will PURPOSELY bully you into sacrificing your self-determination, to CREATE THE CHAOS they exploit, to “crack down.” It’s an historical SCAM.

      My schoolyard trouble-making was handles with couple of swats. Problem solved. If we are bullied by leftist threats to STOP punishment like this… we need ONLY BLAME OURSELVES for the results.

      I was going to provide a comment about your extensive listing but then realized that you have no grasp about the horrific treatment of an elderly woman by anti-social children on a taxpayer funded public school bus. Many of us do see that verbal and physical abuse of this elderly woman by a gang of vile, anti-social children is unacceptable and that society has laws against ‘elder abuse’ — the action of these children seem to rise to criminal. Elderly abuse — verbal, physical, and threats to her safety on the bus with ‘…if I had a knife it would go through you like butter’ and demanding to know her home address in order to continue to terrorize her.

      Thanks for your posting Brother Winston Smith — it is informative to know that there are actually people who think like you.

You, instead, resort to the typical tactic of implying that my LOCAL solution that include ONLY THOSE INVOLVED… is condoning the behavior. Similar to the ol’ 10th Amendment = “legalize drugs” garbage.

      Funny… as a liberty supporter who has endured abusive language MUCH WORSE online over the last few years (but have NEVER, EVER tapped a “flag as offensive” button) what shall I do?       you miss the whole point. This is a reflection of the direction of our society. These kids do not care about others. They have no remorse no conscience no empathy. How does this effect you?/ because this is OUR society we share with each other… you will care when you are the old ladies age any society has dissolved even more. (4.     Well one thing that I say is require those kids to work for say, six months or so at a nursing home taking care of the elderly. They would learn that the elderly are people too and that it is better to care for people than to terrorize them! That is what these little punks of uncaring incompetent so-called parents did was to terrorize her and it should be resolved based on it being terrorism!

    I agree with Glenn’s view…. But the bigger picture needs to be examined.

    Over the past 40 or so years, kids and teens have been forced to change from a physical to a mental way of dealing with others. Back then, if you had an issue with another kid in school, you settled it out in the schoolyard after school. No weapons, just hand to hand. Yes, sometimes you were bloodied, but you lived, and learned respect, and to be accountable for your actions and comments to others. Right or wrong, The important thing is you learned to not get into those positions, or if you did, you at least earned respect because you stood up and challenged the class bully and knocked some sense into them.
    Now, 40 years later, you have a generation of liberal sheeple who are only allowed by politically correct terms express themselves. With that comes A list of problems down the road. the problems are not solved as they happen, but build up over time, and create situations that are often very violent since all this is repressed. School shootings, gang shootings, teen suicide, and the list goes on. Add to all of this the social media issues and you have time bombs seeking revenge years later.

    One would like to think that across America, Parents are taking a good hard look at their kids, and taking steps to make sure they will not be the next headline.

    When I went to school (In Germany btw) teachers had the power to discipline us and it didn’t hurt me one bit (other then the actual pain of the punishment at the time maybe :) ), in fact it made me a better student and eventually a better person. This notion that teachers can’t discipline out of control students is just crazy. In fact it encourages this kind of behavior, because kids figure out weaknesses really fast. Like I knew I’ll better ask my Mom for something I wanted instead of my Dad…..:). Of course there was something else too. If I ever would‘ve dared to come home and told my parents that the teacher hit me because I misbehaved I would’ve gotten another discipline lesson……If you know what I mean.
    But some people would actually look at my parents as being abusive when nothing could be further from the truth. They taught me that everything in life has consequences and they did a great job teaching me that and kept me out of trouble
    Give teachers and school bus drivers/monitors back those powers and you will end up with better kids, student and human beings.

    Beck is like a fine watch set to the incorrect time. He doesn’t seem to realize the Bible says events like this are predicted in the last days. Isiah says the younger will rule over the older during that time.

    It is later than most realize and from here on out, it only gets worse. Much worse.

    Find Christ while there is still time, because there isn’t much more of it left.

    Cue the scoffers in 3…2.., but the Bible predicts them as well.

      If you’ve watched Glenn you would know that he knows what time it is…His point to us is that we cannot stand by and just watch passively for whatever remaining time we have.
      To not stand is to stand and to not speak is to speak. No one knows how much time we have left (even though we “feel” the time is drawing near) and we had better put our words into action and demonstrate the love we have inside. If we are living the word we don’t have to beat people over the head with a bible. They will see something in our life that they don‘t have and they’ll want it also.

      SERVANT OF YHVH, I am by no means an Obama supporter, let alone a zombie. However, the statistics are from the census, the FBI, and you can find it from other sources as well. I did not want to make the claim that crime is falling without references.

      This has nothing to do with protecting Obama or making him look good. Crime has been falling for a while, which is why I said it is a cultural thing.

    Beck’s right. These kids remind me of a few kids I knew growing up. They followed no rules because they had worthless parents. They never knew the meaning of consequence. Everyone of them grew up to be losers, inmates, or early owners of cemetery real estate.

      Hrothgar- we already know and have been told about those that will not see the end and it’s signs and make fun of those that believe. No matter what, that does not absolve us, no matter how harsh the critics or how loud the laughter, from taking a stand and trying to remind everyone. It is the promise Christians who truly believe make to God.

It’s just bold evidence of patterns we were told that would exist in the end days. We’re behaving like the prophets said we would in the end days, and people like you will deny such.     He took the words right out of my mputh. Thats exactly how I raised my kids and they are all decent human beings. I have been involved in Scouting for over 20 years and the change in parents over those years is crazy! They dont want to get involved with their kids anymore, they just want to dump them off somewhere. They are letting the kids raise theselves.

    One of the problems these kids have is that they are not loved, by
    parents or teachers. If children are loved they are taught respect,
    compassion and disipline. Todays children are like wild animals.
    Twenty years down the road society will have a real mess on their
    hands. If the united states becomes a God fearing country again,
    it may save the family unit and get rid of the communists.

    I watched this show and Glenn Beck was, as usual, captivating. I saw on one of this week’s radio shows that he is hoping to get someone? to attend the Restoring Love show in Dallas and he said something to the effect that if that happened he would be taking a back seat to this person? In my opinion he would only take a back seat to Jesus Christ if he showed up.

      What does it say about our society when people like TROLLI here, have nothing better to do but ask baseless open ended questions, simply trying to encite an argument. I visit the site because I find the material compeling at times. Why are you here TROLLI?. Although you are correct in one area, this site does attract some mindless twits, like racists, lefties, and yourself. But hey its a free country.

      Fear mongoring? Really, this is exactly what our government has resorted to in order to take our rights and freedoms.

      We have to be stripsearched to get on a plane because of the Muslims who flew the planes into the twin towers, but the government continues to allow the Muslims into our country.

      The lie is there is no such thing as a Radical Muslim. They are all one in the same.

      The government tells us they are terrorist and when we attempt to protect ourselves the DOJ wants to investigate how we do so.

      Secure the borders, get the Muslims out of the US and then get the federal government out of educating our children.

    I agree with Beck’s assessment…these kids are dead inside, their parents are dead inside and do not know how to parent. The scary thing is crazy progressives will use this as a reason to give the government more power over it’s citizens…Hello Mayor Bloomberg & Nannystaters, there‘s kids out there who don’t know how to treat the elderly!!!
    Instead, they all should have their butts kicked & should be forced to spend time working on Karen’s yard & house; and then nursing homes. They’d all be better off for it.
