Is Jane Pitt Afraid to Speak Out Following Springfield News Leader Letter?

You probably already know about Brad Pitt’s mother, Jane, and her pro-Christian, anti-Obama and anti-gay marriage letter to The Springfield News-Leader in Springfield, Missouri. On Friday, the brief note was the talk of the media, as it drew a stark contrast between a famous son — who embraces President Barack Obama and his policies — and his mother who very clearly does not.

While the family initially remained quit, Brad’s brother, Doug, has come forward to address his views on the matter, while also defending his mother. On Monday, he appeared on the “Today” show, where he said that it’s perfectly normal for members of the same family to agree to disagree on a great variety of issues. Politico has a portion of the transcript:

“You know, I think moms and dads and kids agree to disagree all over the world. So why would our family be any different?…There can be healthy discussion when people disagree with you and I think there should be. You know, the bad thing is when it turns to venom and negativity, and we don’t have that in our family. It’s open discussion. We can learn from each other and, if anything, it solidifies your point. Or maybe you learn something.”

While Doug has been vocal, his mother has seemingly retreated from the controversy. World Net Daily claims to have spoken with her briefly in an attempt to gain her perspective about the furor that followed after her letter to the local outlet went public. Writer Jack Minor claims that Jane has faced death threats as a result of her comments in the note and that when he reached her, she politely declined to speak about the incident.

Minor goes on to claim that Pitt may simply be fearful after the angst that followed her commentary. Certainly, we can’t know for sure how, exactly, she’s feeling, but some of the Twitter activity in the wake of the incident (as compiled by Twitchy) does, indeed, showcase some reasons for the Hollywood mom to be nervous:

And these are only some of the more vehement responses.

In the note that started the controversy, Pitt was responding to another writer’s article that was critical of Romney and Mormonism. In her brief letter, she claimed that she’s a Christian and she urged other believers to strongly consider voting for the GOP candidate, despite potential ideological differences concerning his theology.

“I think any Christian should spend much time in prayer before refusing to vote for a family man with high morals, business experience, who is against abortion, and shares Christian conviction concerning homosexuality just because he is a Mormon,” she wrote.

Jane went on to deride Obama and to highlight the reasons why she won’t be supporting his re-election campaign. You can read the original note here.

      @ Tac616… I took the challenge and referred back to that story. The date of this piece is July 7 for all to all who need proof. I only read the first page of comments but I did not find one comment that sounded like gloating, nor did one person imply “gladness ” over her death. I saw some who called it “karma” and others who joked about the timeline of her death but not ONE comment even approached the level of vitriol I saw in those tweets. To begin with that language is blocked on this site. When you exaggerate and fabricate you loose all credibility. Don’t you know that?

    The people who wrote the dispicable remarks about Mrs. Pitt are the same ones demanding they be treated with respect regardless of how one feels about homosexuality.

    They demand the freedom to live and speak as they choose but will deny those same freedoms to Mrs. Pitt and anyone else who disagrees with them.

    It takes a vile mind to say the things they have about this woman. It is terrorism.

      You know, this would be a perfect opportunity for Brad to show us all how tolerant liberals can be. Just the way his brother is pointing out that in a family they can just agree to disagree and move on – so could Brad defend his mother from the rabid liberal crowd and support freedom of speech with the same statement, with the added impact of his celebrity. But we hear nothing.

      Doesn’t make me think liberals have much to commend them.

      However, if this Brad guy is a true loving son, he would defend his mother’s right to speak out. If he doesn’t, it‘s because his wifie won’t let him.

    Seems to me that Brad would be quick to come defend his mother’s honor… I mean after all she is his mother. I don’t care if I was Hitler and my mother was Mary herself, NO ONE TALKS TO MY MOM LIKE THAT! The left REALLY makes me angry!

      Anyone who will not defend his mother is a coward and a traitor to his/her own birth. Any man/woman or child who will put anyone above the woman who went to deaths door to bear them owes their mother the courtesy of standing by her side. This woman is right, he knows it, anyone who is not so deep in sin knows it unless their conscious has been seared and they are doomed. Brad Pitt may better rethink his priorities and know who he is and who his family is. All the money in the world is not worth going to hell over.

      I don’t think it is so much that the Blaze cares about the Hollywood elite so much, but to point out that even if you are the darling of the silver screen you had better shut up, sit down and color! As long as you have that HUGE platform to espouse the idiology of the radical left agenda, you had better use as such, or the will destroy you, your friends and your family! This is what happens when you make a deal with the devil…those that giveth will taketh away and leave destruction in their wake as to warn those that were thinking baout taking up the cause with you. I hope this will be a lesson for the Pitt family that they realize just how desperate and pathetic the lefts agenda really is…but somehow I think they are even going to miss this wake up call.
