Pop music icon Lady Gaga‘s upcoming show in Indonesia has officially been scrapped due to security concerns after radical Islamists vowed violence if she entered the planet’s most populous Muslim nation.

Fearing her skimpy wardrobe and suggestive dance moves may corrupt the country’s youth, Islamic “hard-liners” assembled and took to the streets, holding up signs and chanting phrases such as “Go to hell Lady Gaga” to protest her sold-out June 3 concert in Jakarta, according to an Associated Press report.

However, others were reportedly willing to go well beyond that particular brand of protest as violent threats were hurled at the controversial and sometimes intentionally offensive pop star.

The Blaze previously reported on comments made by Habib Rizieq Syihab, the head of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI), an Islamic pressure group in Indonesia, who threatened to stop Gaga at the airport and assemble 30,000 people to attack her concert.

“With threats if the concert goes ahead, Lady Gaga’s side is calling off the concert. This is not only about Lady Gaga’s security, but extends to those who will be watching her,” concert promotion lawyer Minola Sebayang told the AP.

Gaga tweeted about the show’s cancellation early Sunday and vowed to try to make it up to her fans.

“We had to cancel the concert in Indonesia. I’m so very sorry to the fans & just as devastated as you if not more. You are everything to me,” she wrote.  “I will try to put together something special for you. My love for Indonesia has only grown.”

Police initially refused to provide the necessary permits for the concert unless the singer agreed to take the sexy in her performance down a few notches, according to an ABC News report. But at the end of the day, her management team said the cancellation was necessary because of security concerns.

Some argue that while the majority of Indonesia’s Muslim population is moderate and peaceful, the radical fundamentalist Islamists in the country are growing more intolerant and forceful when promoting their views.

The Wall Street Journal reported on a few of the most recent examples:

In the most recent case, several residents threw stones, bags of urine and rotten eggs at members of a Christian congregation in the Jakarta suburb of Bekasi, accusing them of trying to convert locals, said Palti Panjaitan, who is in charge of the church.

“They don’t want us there because they believe their children could grow up to become Christians,” Mr. Panjaitan said.

A group of Muslims in Bogor, another Jakarta suburb, continue to block one Christian congregation from worshipping in their church in a dispute over the building’s permit that has dragged on for more than a year.

Meanwhile, the Ahmadiyya and Shia Islamic minority sects have also been targets of attacks by hardliners in Indonesia. In recent years, Ahmadiyya members have been driven from their homes and had their places of worship burned. Many mainstream Muslims believe Ahmadiyya followers to be heretical because they recognize another prophet after Muhammad.

Mobs have ransacked at least four Ahmadiyya mosques this year alone, said Firdaus Mubarok, a spokesman for the group.

It should be interesting to see if any Muslim rights groups like the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) or the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) – or any leftist civil liberties group really – will come out and publicly denounce Indonesia’s “hard-line” Islamists as they themselves constantly argue that the U.S. must become a more tolerant nation.

      Jaycen, they are protesting, isn’t that a right also? If they feel she will corrupt their children they have a right to say so. Now I do not agree with violent protest or take violent actions against her should she had continued with the concert. However, we know radicals resort to violence it does not matter their beliefs or lack thereof.

      They are acting no different than the left trying to force those with a moral compass to accept their way of life without one. When you have a strong belief you have a tendency to promote it. Some do it incorrectly through violence.

      You don’t need to silence Lady Gaga to stop her influence on todays youth…you just need parents to go back to being parents who accept the responsibility to raise their children until (at least) the age of 18 in the proper way. That means no longer being their “best friend”, or ignoring them 23 hours a day, that means being a role model and not a “do as I say, not as I do” twit, that means policing their music/videos/games/clothes/friends/computer/phone…dosen’t sound like fun? Then you should have kept your legs closed or your party hat on.

      Here’s the secret…start off from day one, reading the right books, listening to the right music, talk to your child about the importance of being themselves and not hiding from who you are –because you don‘t know if you’ll be accepted– by wearing idotic clothes, asinine makeup, moronic tattoos, etc.

      If you do this, then you won’t wind up with a 12 year old daughter leaving the house looking like some 21 year old tramp looking for a pimp…you won’t wind up with a son dressing and acting like some cowardly gangbanger or some Justin Bieber/Timberlake clone.

      Your kid won’t wind up being fluent in only ebonics, or using “dude”, “bro”, “wassup”, “yo” or any other “go with the flow, act cool like the fools” behavior.

      I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if the protests and threats were co ordinated through these groups back here in the USA. A large section of the “protesters” in Egypt last spring/ summer were helped out by many US based organizations (Code Pink, UAW, Communist Party of America, etc).

      She followed Madonna’s recipe for success which to this day I still cannot fathom why she or Gaga becaome so popular. Compared to quality artists from the late 50‘s to late 70’s neither of two would have been offered a serious record deal back then……..sad to see how the standards for nearly everything have fallen to such a degree.

    well, my mother(a christain) left indoneasia a long time ago, she told me that all christain-majority villages and towns have govt funding cut off COMPLETELY just because of religion, my mom, after having a high school diploma, change her identity to be a muslim(still a christain) to a mulsim only section in sumatra just to get a job as a hair stylist. there she met my dad(ship deck crew on vacaition) and left the country. not until i was 11 did we visited inoneasia to see my grandma, great gran uncle, and bunches od unlces, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces, the scenery is great, air is fresh, just that te govt is corrupt and appease only to the muslim elite. this is what America could be if this maddness keeps on happening!       You DID show your true colors and true thoughts by saying, “they have the right to EXPRESS themselves and keep her out.” My problem isn’t with the “express themselves” part but the “keep her out” part. They DON’T have that right, especially if they keep her out by threats of violence. By saying you condone their “right” to “keep her out” you show you aren’t interested in freedom of speech or freedom of expression. You are PERFECTLY fine with using threats of violence to impose your reality.

      A few ways they DO have the ability to keep her out is by
      Not watching her videos
      Not listening to her music
      Not buying her merchandise
      Not buying tickets to her concerts.

      I thought that the people ran the country, not the entertainers. They made their voices heard and accomplished something. What you mad because they achieved that? What are you going to do about it? Are you going to fight every Muslim in Indonesia until they see it your way? Are you that into it?

      They exercised that right of so called “Freedom of Speech/Expression” you’re so hung up on repeating, you know the same concept you told me that I’m so adamantly against. Do you know anything about the Indonesian Government? I didn’t know our UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION and BILL OF RIGHTS extended all the way over into the South China SEA. I didn’t know once Lady Gaga leaves the America, she is the embodiment of the Declaration of Independence.

      Oh if you were so hip on the news, you would know that Indonesia does have a thing called Blasphemy laws (Laws relating to blasphemy, or irreverence toward holy personages, religious artifacts, customs, and beliefs.) Like I said before, IT’S their Country. They can do whatever the f!!K they wanna DO. They’re the ones that have to answer for it, not you.

      I am for Freedoms of Expression in my country, emphasis on “MY COUNTRY”, “ THE PLACE I WAS BORN IN”, but your argument is weak on so many levels. No Entertainer has any rights over a population of people, however small they may be. If they don’t want her, they don’t want her. Get over it.

      Lady Gaga’s antics, when performed in the Western World, do not make her the target of real violence or death. Offending those in the Western World has no consequences. And so she if free to be as “expressive” and “daring” as she likes. She is free.

      Only when offending those in the muslim world does Lad Gaga place herself, and those around her, in grave danger of injury and even death. She is not free. She is made to feel subdued.

      Lady Gaga should show some mettle and go on with her show. If the muslims attack her, then we will have more proof of the intransigent, intolerant, and misogynistic nature of Islamic culture.
