‘God Abhors You’: UK Muslims Convicted for Distributing Pamphlets Advocating the Murder of Gays

A disturbing trial came to a close this week in London, England, after three men were convicted of distributing pamphlets that called for gays and lesbians to be murdered. The hateful fliers were disturbing at best. One of them, titled, “Death Penalty?,” showed a mannequin that was hanging from a noose and said that gays should be sent to hell.

The Mirror provides more details on the contents within the “Death Penalty” leaflet, as it read that anyone found in the act of homosexuality should receive capital punishment:

It states: “The death sentence is the only way this immoral crime can be erased from corrupting society and act as a deterrent for any other ill person who is remotely inclined in this bent way.”

The leaflet continues: “The only dispute amongst the classical authorities was the method employed in carrying out the penal code.”

It goes on to offer burning, being flung from a high point such as a mountain or building, or being stoned to death as suitable methods.

Other leaflets apparently read “Turn or Burn” and “God Abhors You” (the acronym for this last one was GAY). These handouts were intended to protest a gay pride march that was taking place in the city of Derby back in 2010. Another pamphlet, which allegedly compared homosexuality to pedophilia, wasn’t given out, but is said to have been discovered.

The BBC has more regarding the case:

Ihjaz Ali, 42, Mehboob Hussain, 45, Umar Javed, 38, Razwan Javed, 27, and Kabir Ahmed, 28, have said the leaflets – which included quotations from religious sources – were designed to “raise awareness.” [...]

Mr Ali approached police a few weeks before the gay pride event to ask about a counter-protest by members of the Muslim community.

He was advised to be careful about the wording of signs and placards, the court heard.

He was eventually refused permission for the protest because he did not apply to the council with enough time.

The men were brought up on charges of hatred targeted at sexual orientation, though they maintain that they were merely attempting to raise awareness about an issue they were passionate about. In March 2010, new laws governing such offenses were put into effect and this was the first case being prosecuted under them.

Offenders found guilty could receive up to seven years in prison, but because there is no precedent yet through which to judge, it will be fascinating to see how these men are penalized. In the end, Huddain and Umar Javed were found not guilty, while the others were charged with the crime.

The men will be sentenced on February 10.

Feel free to define “Christian” broadly — so you can count the Westboro Baptist Church (which says and does really mean and terrible things, but has not, as far as I know, ever said that homosexuals should be killed). Basically, I really doubt that your rhetoric is reasonable.

I think it’s stupid to believe that gays will suffer in some future life for being what “god made them” on earth. (I leave god out of everything, actually.) It is FAR, FAR worse, however, to suggest steps to “send them” to that final punishment…i.e. to kill them so that they might face that supposed eternity. The beliefs are stupid but not criminal in and of themselves; inciting a murder or other action to ‘hasten’ that judgement IS criminal behavior. No confusion here.
The religious community, every permutation, is ALWAYS illogical. We’d be way better off without religion.

That could not be the furtherest thing from the truth. Those of us who grew up as truly conservative Christians were actually taught to love the sinner. There is no hatred involved. It is the left who calls disagreement hate. Don’t confuse the greater mass of us with the likes of the Westboro loons or other organized hate groups. I don’t even add Baptist to their name because the Baptist church has nothing to do with them. They simply adopted the name themselves, apparently to try and give themselves some sort of credence. Christians, if they follow scripture and Christ’s teachings, do not want to kill gays. We don’t want to kill Muslims. It is not valid to compare our faith with Islam, which teaches that the penalty for non-conversion is death here and now. Christ came not to condemn, but to offer life, here, now and eternally. They are opposite faiths. One comes from the Forgiver, who reconciles fallen man to God- the other comes through the Accuser, who shouts that there is no forgiveness, and there is no certainty in heaven unless you die while killing. Jesus= life

sirhansirhan- You blaspheme the God of Isaac and Jacob yet expect us to have dialog with you, this is impossible. Would you be willing to pray with an open heart and ask God to guide you to His truth, even if that truth is found in the Jesus of the Bible, and not in Islam? I have studied the quran and found the teachings and commands in the Qur’an and the Hadith are diametrically opposed to the teachings and commands of the Biblical Jesus. In Matthew 5:44-45 Jesus says, “But I say to you, love your enemies, barak those who curse you, do good to those hating you, and pray for those insulting you or persicuting you, So that you become sons of your Father in shamayim”. Does the Jesus of the Qur’an also teach this? Does even Mohammed — the ‘prophet’ of Islam — teach anywhere in the Qur’an or Hadith to love and pray for one’s enemies?

If the Bible is not the word of God as you say, why cant we see the Tashkent quran to compare it to the copy you read in Arabic?

You blaspheme our book yet wont produce yours! Ill make you a deal sirhan, when the WORLD IS ALLOWED TO VIEW THE TASHKENT QURAN I for one would love to compare its teachings and commands to the teachings and commands of the Biblical Jesus again. Then we might be able to have a dialog. :]

hey sirhansatan-there is no historical or archaeological record of Mecca ever having existed, prior to the 4th century AD when immigrants from Yemen settled in the area. While there is plenty of such evidence that confirms that Arabian cities like Qedar, Dedan and Teima were established long before, there is no such evidence that Mecca ever existed before the Christian era.
Try a search like – archaeology of mecca – or – historical and archaeological evidence of mecca – or – ancient towns in Arabia. If you can find some evidence that predates the first few centuries AD, that demonstrates that Mecca existed prior to the Christian era, we would appreciate you sharing it with us in the forum. In the absence of such archaeological and historical record, what can be concluded about Mohammed’s stand-alone 7th century religion?
-If muhammud is the last and final prophet to the world, and the quran was his only miracle, why is the only way to understand it in arabic? sounds like only Arabs can truly “understand” the quran, not the entire world according to your political theology .
-Didnt Joseph Smith claim the muslims are fallen also? If your right they must be too! and when another “prophet” comes along you can follow that religion too!
      what fun :]

@ HEARTITORLEAVEIT- You have been mislead about Islam. First, I am willing to believe what you said about Jesus but you have to prove what you’re saying. If Jesus died where’s the proof. If he is God where’s the proof.

You say you have studied the Qur’an and Sunnah; that’s not true. If you studied the Qur‘an or Sunnah we wouldn’t be having this conversation. Give me one quote from the Qur‘an from the word of Jesus that you disagree with as proof that you read the Qur’an.

There is no such thing as a “Tashkent Qur’an” there is only the Qur’an (Arabic only). Translations are okay, but only use one that has the Arabic text along side the translation. It wont be that hard to find one.

You say there is no evidence that Mecca existed before the Christian era. What do you mean by that. Are you saying Mecca did not exist before the 4th century? Mecca is mentioned in the Bible:

Psalm 84:6: Who passing through the valley of Baca (Mecca) make it a well; the rain also filleth the pools.

Isaiah 21:13: The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye travelling companies of Dedanim.

Ezekiel 27:21: Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they thy merchants.

According to the Quran, the Ka’aba was re-built by Abraham and Ishmael, and has presumably been the center of worship for Allah’s people, since Adam. However in the 7th century AD the Ka‘aba was a center of pagan worship of some 360 rock idols that resided in and around the Ka’aba. Mohammed took issue with the polytheists and eventually recruited forces from neighboring Medina to attack Mecca and force removal of all of the rock idols ….. except the black stone that still resides at the Ka’aba today.

there is absolutely no record – outside of 7th and 8th century created Islamic tradition – of Abraham, Hagar or Ishmael ever having been in Mecca. According the Scriptural record, confirmed by archaeology, Abraham’s travels were mainly in the opposite direction and he never got within a thousand kilometers of Mecca. Indeed the first caravan route along the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia wasn’t established until almost a thousand years after Abraham.

sirhansatan- The Bible states that Abraham sent Hagar, and Hagar’s son Ishmael away, and that Ishmael did nearly die of thirst, the probem here is when I consider the geographical location of Abraham’s home, and where Hagar and Ishmael wandered, once they were sent out.

-Genesis 21:14 “And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave [it] unto Hagar, putting [it] on her shoulder, and the child, and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beersheba. 15 And the water was spent in the bottle, and she cast the child under one of the shrubs. ”

To suggest that Hagar and Ishmael wandered their way from Beersheba to what eventually became Mecca, would require them to have crossed 1000 kilometers of – at that time – unpopulated, uncharted, unknown, barren, desolate desert, on a single skin of water. The nearest location that anybody has placed Mt. Sinai to Mecca is not within a thousand kilometers across barren desert!

there is not a single shred of archaeological or historical evidence, that suggests that Mecca ever existed before the 4th century AD when immigrants of the Yemeni tribe of Khuzaa’h settled it, or that the Kaaba existed before it was built by Asa’d Abu Karb in the early 5th century A.D.

      sorrysirhan no covenant for you!

      sirhansatan- YOU HAVE CHOSEN!
-Between the 1600 year record of God to mankind as revealed through all of His prophets and witnesses, that His people have followed through two covenants for 3500 years, or the EXACT OPPOSITE through the stand-alone 23 year record of A SINGLE 7th century southwest Arabian desert dwelling illiterate, and his recycled Sabian and Quraish Arabian moon, sun, star and jinn-devil worship rituals. Rituals that take place in the city of Mecca, which no historical or archaeological record suggests, ever existed before immigrants from Yemen settled the area in about the 4th century AD!

-There can be no question that one of these directly opposing records comes straight out of the pit of hell.
      THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND.

If Muhammad was a true prophet of the God of the bible, then all the other prophets were false!

      So what inspires you, sirhan?
-To desire to believe the scriptures were corrupted? To run and hide from the Gospel?
-It is “that spirit of antichrist” working in you heart and mind sirhan?

sirhan, Are you willing to pray with an open heart and ask God to guide you to His truth, even if that truth is found in the Jesus of the Bible, and not in Islam?

(BTW- Loon Watch is a site that tells Muslims how to talk to non-Muslims – what to say, what arguments to use, etc. This is why Muslims sound like parrots, just mouthing off what they’re told). Nothing original ever comes out of Suhan’s mind, that would be Haram!

sirhan–Surah 4:157 That they said (in boast), “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah”;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-
It is crystal clear to all of us that you represent and belive in the exact opposite of Christianity. This single verse from the Quran rejects all of the prophets and witnesses of the New Testament ! INCLUDING Jesus Christ who prophesied His own death – and the whole subject of the new covenant. No crucifixion, death and resurrection. No shed blood. In spite of the massive, even secular, historical record of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Throughout the last two thousand years not a single Christian has ever had a doubt about Jesus’ crucifixion. But you deny it sirhansatan. Why would you try to prove anything to a Christian if you by denying Christ’s devinity? There is not a single mainstream Jewish sect that harbors any doubt about Jesus being killed.Your religion is unique among other religions, in that at it‘s very core it teaches it’s adherents what to DISbelieve.

      King James Version (KJV)

16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,

19A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

@ V-MAN MACE you asked: Which of these does homosexuality fall under?
As long as you asked, the Bible does expound on that subject quite clearly in another book called The Book of Romans. Any more questions?

Ro 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
      28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

You have listed lying on your list twice. I think redundancy was one of the original sins.

      WISEPENNY

It was an honest question, I’m always seeking knowledge. I feed off it.

I understand that the book of Romans addresses the issue, and I’m intimately familiar with the text, but does it say that God hates homosexuals? No. God doesn’t hate sinners. He hates their actions, however.

Is a homosexual any more of a sinner than anyone else? No. We’re ALL sinners.

      sdarbro

It isn’t my list. It’s directly from Proverbs. I suppose it could be considered wicked imaginations and/or running to mischief, yes. That correlates very well in the context of “…God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient…”

So I would venture to say that you both are correct. You have expanded my knowledge.
