‘God Sent Another Shooter’: Westboro Members Send ‘Horrific’ Tweets in Wake of Deadly Sikh Temple Attack

Westboro Baptist Church is no stranger to controversy. The group, which is known for picketing military funerals and for its anti-gay sentiment, is increasingly turning to social media to spread its radical messaging. In the wake of Sunday’s Sikh temple shooting, Fred Phelps Jr. and Margie Phelps, two of the church‘s members and children of Westboro’s founder, Fred Phelps, sent tweets that were widely seen as offensive.

Not long after the tragedy unfolded, Margie’s Twitter feed read, “God sent another shooter?” Later, she went on to write, “God doesn’t hear prayers of wicked,” in response to a tweet in which someone encouraged fellow Americans to be praying for the temple shooting’s victims. The Huffington Post called the first tweet ”horrific.”

He wrote, “Beautiful work of an angry God who told Wisconsin to keep their filthy hands off his people (WBC)!,” among other similar messages.

These, of course, weren’t the only Westboro members to make their voices heard on social media. Fred’s Twitter stream featured re-tweeted (shared) messages from others within the church, too, who seemed to be praising the deadly shooting as a show of God’s alleged wrath.

Here are some of the other tweets that were sent:

Once again, Westboro is entering itself into national discussion and claiming that God purposefully allowed such a tragic crime to unfold. While it’s not surprising to hear these responses (especially based on a long track-record of similar statements), the church’s increasing use of social media is noteworthy.

Westboro Baptist is a Democrat hate group. Why isn’t the media asking Al Gore why he supported Fred Phelps (Westboro’s leader) in his run as the Democrat candidate for Governor of Kansas? I say they represent Democrats in the typical Democrat fashion. Democrats are people who think it is OK to kill an unborn child so why would this surprise anyone?

As a Latter Day Saint, I feel for the peace loving, humble, faithful Baptists who are lumped in with this group simply because they put the word ‘Baptist’ at the end of their name.

We run into the same problem with the RLDS church (not to mention Harry Reid).

To any who are seeking a religion: Do not fail to consider the Baptist denomination based on these people’s actions. John Wesley was a good man; a man inspired of God. The members are hard working and God fearing people who try their best to live the commandments of God.

I am not judging the WBC, I‘m just saying don’t lump all Baptists in the same category.

      Encinom, you’re an idiot.

Jesus told his apostles to love everyone equally. However, this Cult seems to think Jesus meant that everyone should be hated if they believe differently… that is Islam, not Christianity.

As for Chick-Fil-A, since when does not agreeing with gay marriage equate to hating gays? One of my gay friends hates gay marriage, saying it is just too political… does that mean he hates himself?

Lets be honest there is little difference in the under lying message of Mr. Cathy of CFA and Westboro. Cathy just has better pr as he funds groups that seek to deny equal rights to all Americans and more commonsense and knows not to protest at military funerals. Same message, that its alright to restrict the rights on a class of citizens, different tactics. Read the comments on the Blaze by your fellow Christians, not more than hate filled rants with bible quotes sprinkled in to justify the hate, little difference from Westboro. Westboro is the ugly true face of American Conservative Christians.

The questions are often asked: ‘Is not God angry with the mischievous acts of man?’ Does He not then display his wrath? Does He not use people to kill others? Loaded queries to be sure and worthy of a little thought.
-is not God angry? Yes, but He is reserving his anger
-does he not display his wrath? yes, but only in nature (earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, hailstorms)
-does he not use people to kill others?

No, and this is where most so called christians go astray and rant like idiots. The depraved acts of man (lying, stealing, adultury, pride, gossip, murder, etc) create enough mischief without GOd’s help. God does not approve of cold blooded killing. This is not the time to discuss capital punishment; thats another issue, but saying ‘God approves’ of this killing is the utmost absurdity.

GRACE is God’s marching order for the day, and his patience with meting out anger in no wise diminishes his anger; he is simply withholding, and for any man to step in and ‘hasten the day,’ as it were, and say he is acting in God’s stead is a fool. The murder of Sikhs, Jews, Poles, Italians, whatever, whoever, is contrary to GOd’s mind, and a disgraceful opinion and interpretation of God and his word.

I fear that soon that freedom of speech in its entirety will no longer be an option in America. It will be morphed into whatever is the prevailing sentiment of the majority at any point in time. Think it won’t happen here? It’s already happened in Europe and Canada.

Fire and brimstone is fine, distorting the written Word of God is not. Nowhere in The Bible does God talk about hating sinners. It talks about hating wrong paths, hating wickedness, hating iniquity, hating divorce, hating evil, but nowhere does it talk about God hating the actual sinner (like the Westboro cult believes) . I’m glad I grew up in a non-denominational church that taught me how much God loves me, how much God loves us, how much God loves sinners…..so much that he sent his son, so that we may have eternal life with Him.
