Ted Williams, the Ohio homeless man whose golden voice captured the attention of millions, was reportedly detained Monday night at a Hollywood hotel after Los Angeles police officers responded to a disturbance call.
According to the LA Times, Williams and his daughter got into a heated altercation, though the source of contention is not known at this point. The pair were taken to a local police station but were eventually released from police custody without charges.
Williams spoke of his family and their strained relationship with Dr. Phil this week:
Williams was in southern California for some television appearances, including “Entertainment Tonight.” The show’s voice-over actor, Randy Thomas, joined with other Hollywood voice-over talents to pay initiation fees for a Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) membership for Williams on Monday. With his new memberships, he will be able to work in high-profile jobs, be eligible for health benefits and have access to expert voice-over training.

Posted on January 12, 2011 at 1:53amI saw him for about a minute (audio was down — just as well) on a clip from Dr. Phil’s show. He needs to find a REAL therapist away from the camera, which means he needs to stay away from that other pseudo-psychiatrist with the white hair (he’s always on those ET / Inside Edition type shows). I see just enough of these shows before I find the remote! I too, hope Williams takes this slowly and has good people guiding him. It’d be fantastic to see him do well. That is, as long as he doesn’t make it too big. After all, as someone once said, “At some point, you’ve made enough money.” Funny though, this “someone” must not think his buddy Oprah has made enough money. I wonder how close she IS to making enough money? Gotta be pretty soon, as well as she’s doing. I also hope Mr. Williams is not tempted by the offer to do a reality tv show. He should get to know his family again AWAY from the cameras.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 10:43pmOnce I saw this story about a homeless, toothless guy who won the lottery. He went through it like crazy and I think within a year it was all gone and he was a hobo again. I hope this doesn’t happen to this guy. In the world full of bad stories, I hope he really pulls himself up by the bootstraps and we all have a happy ending to this story/his life. I think if he has reliable people helping him mentally, etc along the way, he should be ok. Bet if he does make a lot of money, he’ll own a lot of child support if the children are still minors.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 8:40pmToo bad he didnt have any one who cared enough about him to keep from going on dr phils quack psychology show. That jerk is more concerned with making himself look good by making others look like a fool than he is about helping that person. I think he actually does more damage to some ones self image by berating them on national television.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 8:45pmMTNCLIMBERJIM, I like you and respect you. You are absolutely right. They will exploit this man and all the temptations will come back tenfold. I will continue to pray for Mr. Williams. He has made alot of mistakes in the past, but if he learns from them they will be lessons well earned. I am concerned that he will feel obligated to join the progressives in Hollywood and will be indoctrinated. I wish him the best, and you too Jim. Congratulations on your sobriety. Kudos!

Posted on January 12, 2011 at 1:43pmCongrats mtnclimberjim. You and your loved ones must be so proud! And you are right about Williams. If he doesn’t surround himself immediately with the right people, he will fail! He’s already getting slammed from many directions, and the alcoholics I’ve been around, don’t deal with that very well. All this sudden fame and money can be a huge detriment to his recovery too. Yes, he is definitely climbing a slippery slope and he needs all our prayers.

Posted on January 11, 2011 at 10:27pmPov, in answer to your first question, I don’t think people who have no income have to pay income tax. Hence, like most homeless people, he probably did not file a tax return. Perhaps I’m oversimplifying it. It’s pretty complicated.
By the way, it’s “trailer,“ not ”trailor.” And I’m not sure, but I don‘t think a person’s susceptibility to alcohol is determined by how much “class” they have, where they live, or their spelling ability.
