GOP 2012 Budget to Make $4 Trillion-Plus in Cuts Over Next Decade

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Republican chairman who’s writing a 2012 budget says the GOP will propose cutting more than $4 trillion over the next decade.

The head of the House Budget Committee, Rep. Paul Ryan, says President Barack Obama is “punting on the budget and not doing a thing to prevent a debt crisis.”

Ryan tells “Fox News Sunday” that GOP budget-writers are looking at cutting $4 trillion-plus in spending over the next decade. That‘s more than even what the president’s deficit commission recommended.

Ryan is talking about spending caps and long-term belt-tightening for the Medicare and Medicaid health programs. He wants older people who are wealthy to pay more out of pocket for their health care.

The GOP plan for the budget year that begins Oct. 1 is coming out Tuesday.

    Why is it before the GOP took over the house, no one blamed the democrats for NOT cutting spending ect. BUT let the gop take over the house and every one thinks they should create jobs and cut spending. IF YOU REALLY want that to happen…..ELECT a republican president and congress and house.       I want to cut it a minimum of 40%
      The first things to go would be anything that benefits you in any way, shape, or form. (Although I would ask for an earmark to have you neutered. We don’t need more junkyard dawgs running around)

      After that, it’s easy. Anything that is not specifically spelled out in the constitution for the Feds to cover is gone. Anything that is important enough to be handled by a governmental authority would be left to each individual state.

      The states that do things well, will flourish, and the ones that don’t, will be Democrat.
      Simple, is it not?

      If that did not make sense to you, let me translate: Bark bark bark bark woof, bark bark bark bark bark bark.

    I heard Paul Ryan give the rundown on Sean Hanity show. The liberal Dems and Chris Mathews will be squealing like pigs in a slaughter house. He said the true and total repeal of our nation destroying Obamacare will happen when America has a conservative president and controls the house and senate in 2012. I thought I heard numbers like 6 trillion plus in cuts….but the 4 tril mentioned in this article is a huge cut. Wonder how many agencies we don’t need? FCC EPA Dept of Commerce All full of obama appointed over-regulations strangling America’s growth.

    Great, but why wait? We need to do it now not over a decade, stop all foreign aid now, get out of the UN now, scale back our financing of NATO by 75%.. Why keep on pushing back the date we need to do it now not later! Republicans and Democrates alike are to blame, it‘s not one or the other it’s both. There’s plenty of blame to go around so stop the petty finger pointing and do something now! The American people are fed up with the bickering and dirty tricks etc. If those bozo‘s in Washington don’t stop playing politics and do something this country is finished. The American people need to stand up and tell Washington in no uncertian terms that we’ve had it! We will not stand by anylonger and listen to the BS coming out of Washington, if they won‘t do something we will at the voting booth and we’ll vote them out. haven’t people figured out by now the only thing that people in Washington are concerned about is getting re-elected! There should never have been a career politician, it‘s not a career it’s a privilage to serve, not a means to an end of a real working career. Too many lawyers, too many career polititians, too much outside interests, and special interests!

      @Richard: Can the populace get a referendum put on the ballot to let the people decide the annual salaries of our representatives as well as their retirement and health benefits? Think if we can take the offices back to “service” rather than “career” we might get only loyal and serious folks as our Senators, Representatives and Presidents.

      @AmeriCat: It amazes me why all democrats seem to think a one-plan-fits-all is the do all-be all solution to every problem. They never consider that a less populated southern state does not have the same problems that a densely populated northern state has, as an example. We are all different in more ways than one and each state’s needs are different. Gads, just get the federal government out of our personal and state business. I would like to see a return to the original Constitution and start building from there. Hindsight is far better than foresight in this instance.

      You’re a liar and so is BO. I work for one of these demonized insurance companies. There are/were no subsidies. We are non-profit, we take everyone with no pre-existing conditions; always have. We were never allowed to drop except for non-payment. The only thing that denied coverage was democrat governmental regulation across state lines. If that didn’t exist everyone in the entire country could have gotten insurance AT LEAST through just the company for which I work.

      If you want to keep going on this just open up again but this time with coherent sentence. You lie and so does your dictator. You aren’t going to spew your bs, unanswered around me.

      Health insurance is a PRIVATE idea. It was never a right and never will be. It is a product that someone created and people choose to buy it.

    $4 trillion over a decade? That’s about 20% of the work they need to do. They need to cut $20 trillion in that period.

    The $4trillion number will never be realized. This is more smoke and mirrors garbage. Let’s get real: We need to cut $1.7 Trillion THIS YEAR.

    $4Trillion over a decade doesn’t do squat, and you can bet most of the cuts are in the ‘out years’, meaning they’ll never really happen.

    Want to trim government? Go back to the Gold Standard. That’s when we started deficit spending. Four trillion sounds nice, our nation‘s cancer is at Stage 4 and we’re going to have to gut Washington like a fish if we hope to survive. We HAVE to get back to being a nation of producers and slap big-time tariffs on crap imported into this country. Severely limit collective bargaining so we can produce items like cars, steel, TV’s and on and on, on a competitive footing. Increase retirement to 75 for SS, Medicare and Medicaid. End unemployment on the federal level. Food Stamps should require you have a job so that the stamps bridge the gap, not fill the whole picture.
    This kind of CHANGE will give the American people real HOPE for the future. Because as things stand now, we don’t have a very pretty outcome.

    This is not enough cuts. We need to balance the budget each year now and cut 500 billion more to start to pay off the 15 trillion debt now over a 30 year time span. If the economy grows we can pay down the debt faster and spend a little more. EVERYONE needs to take a haircut and I mean everyone, every generation if this country is to prosper over time again.

      I’m going to walk back what I said earlier until the plan if officially revealed. Paul Ryan has been running a media blitz preparing this budget’s official release. He hasn’t said any specifics, in fact, he specifically stated that he wasn’t giving specifics yet. AP, the Blaze, and myself are jumping the gun with this report.

      Earlier last week on Hannity, he stated that the last budget he presented was for $4.8T over 10 years and that it is his goal to cut more than that in the budget. He also stated that he wants the budget to be below the 2008 spending levels; 2008 spending levels were about $2.9T, that would make the cuts between $900B and $1T from this year.

    Finally, a serious move in the right direction. It doesn’t solve the problem completely, but at least it will slow the hemorrhaging a little. What we need to do is radically reduce corp taxes to make us more competitive, and start getting companies to place their business in America vs. running as far away as possible. This problem will not be solved by raising taxes on anyone. It will only be solved when everyone is working, everyone is paying their fair share, and everyone is accountable for their actions. Stop punishing success and start promoting true capitalism and innovation.

      ok, so our national debt is projected to increase by over $9 trillion AT LEAST over the next decade, and their big plan is to only spend us into $5 Trillion more debt??? Thanks for coming up with a plan to kill us more slowly! We’re going to pay more than $5 Trillion in interest payments alone.

      Firstly , this will never get done at a $4 Tril clip – there will be no way Senate or the POTUS would sign off on it. This is a diversionary tactic, just to make their constituents happy with big numbers that will never come true. Secondly, this gives them cover to negotiate this week on the 2011 budget, and say ” Well, we had to give in to Dems this time,, but NEXT time, we’re gonna fight! Look at our shiny new plan for next year!” What a joke.

      Balanced Budget Amendment NOW. The Republican plan is STILL going to spend far more than the government takes in, and continue to dig us deeper into debt. Not good enough.

      We need the actual facts on the cuts. These snakes (all politicians) will claim huge cuts, but in reality they are cutting PROPOSED spending increases and NOT current expenses.

      It would be like me stating I’m going to cut my expenses next year by $35,000.00 by not buying the brand new 4X4 I had planned on buying. In reality my actual expenses remained the same and nothing was cut.

      Democrats and Republicans…can’t trust a damn one of them.

      I appreciate your position, however; I learned only a few days ago, a balanced budget amendment does not do the trick. Consider that we have a (actually I’m not sure of the exact number – but follow the logic) 4 trillion gross domestic product, the government taxes everyone 100% and spends 4 trillion – balanced budget – not a good situation. The answer really lies in linking spending to GDP say 10% (eventually). This approach actually encourages government to get out of the way, and let the free market grow – increasing revenues – but limiting the amount they can spend.

      Well we don’t have to look back thousands or even hundreds of years to see how dangerous this present day situation is, we can look back to Bolshevik Russia, we can see the takeover by the Bolsheviks, talking about the peoples revolution, talking about the positive change, and Lenin came in and then Stalin, the fact is, is that over 40 million Russians between 1925 and 1940, good Russians, people who were Christians, people who had, who had their own businesses, people who were educated, they were exterminated because they had their own business, because they were educated, because they believed, believed in God’s law.

      We can look over at Germany. Germany was in a very very terrible economic situation, and this very charismatic leader called Adolf Hitler comes in, he rebuilds roads very well and he promises a better life for the people, and within 10 years you see a completely nationalized, centralized, dictatorial situation where millions and millions of people were exterminated.

      We can go to Maoist China. Mao Tse-tung came in, he promised change, he promised a better life, and within 5 years, 60 million Chinese were exterminated.

      Let us not forget Castro, Idi Amin, Pol Pot and Kim Jong-il

      This isn’t taught in schools these days and it wasn’t that long ago and I pray to God that this will not happen in the United States and the way it won’t happen is if you and your friends and all of us together take action to say no. This country is too precious, it’s too wonderful, it’s too good of a place to lie down as a victim and give up.

      American is beholden to the Financial Institutions. The Federal Reserve should be done away with. The Federal Reserve Bank is no more federal than Federal Express.

      Stop spending, get rid of entitlement programs so “We The People” can stand on our own.

      I AM ANGRY AND TIRED OF THE GOP BOOSTING OF WHAT THEY PLAN TO DO

      They will not even keep the promise they made to us last year for the November election. They do not have any intention of reducing any spending and will never try to repeal Obama Care. We are doomed unless we force the end of the Federal System of Government. Only Palin can end this and Democrats know it which is why they hate here and fear the TEA.

      Hey- Conser! Your post is very interesting, it’s great there are so many Quotes that are useful in your messages.That’s why a lot of us read bibles so closely whenever a question comes up.
      There is a solution to the economic pressure we face as a country.
      What we need to do is pay our bills. We are not “broke,“ the country has plenty of cash and this ”broke” word is just a scary talking point that has recently become popular. As a clear eyed patriot I refuse to consider America “broke” – we have power and control over most of the material wealth that exists and always will.
      We are going to make 3 Billion dollars in 2011 and 2012 helping Japan clean up their reactors. Home Depot estimates they will make 400 millon dollars in construction supplies and Walmart is planning to set up 3 separate Japanese response centers in May 2011.

      Until the Repubs have control of both Congress and the White House, these are just wishes. It doesn’t hurt to put them out for Americans to see, but in reality, for now they just don’t have the power to enforce this budget. Hate to see them negotiate one iota with the Dems, since it is the Dems that got us into this mess with their huge spending the last two years. You should never negotiate from a point of weakness. As they said on The Price is Right: COME ON DOWN, 2012!

      I’ll try that. I’ll spend way over my means and just blame my employer for not keeping up with my spending through pay raises.

      I agree with you that we need to pay our bills, but we also need to quit the irresponsible spending that got us in this hugh deficit. Public and private sector.

      To all “moderate” or “conservative” Democrats and “liberal GOP”:

      The Progressives, and that includes Democrats and Republicans alike, are trying to overthrow this government by spending us into bankruptcy. The national debt is unsustainable. Period.

      The sooner the American people realize this and understand it, the better. I do not know why this Congress has not rescinded all discretionary spending, foreign aid and grants (Brazil’s oil comes to mind), and FREEZE any and all unspent Stimulus I and II funds. They are playing a con game with the bailout paybacks. The Fed needs to be audited. And, Obama needs to be INVESTIGATED to determine if he is serving a VOID presidency or to impeach him — YESTERDAY!

      Its about time! We should have the budget go back to pre-911 and eliminate a Trillion in Terrorism/Fear programs and all active Wars, and cut the Border Patrol back to 2000 levels. It would also be a good idea to pay back what we spent in Afghanistan and Iraq, by taking their oil and precious metals. Sadly we will never get our dead and wounded back again.
