Craigslist Scandal: Shirtless Hook-Up Pics Doom GOP Congressman

Craigslist Scandal: Shirtless Hook Up Pics Doom GOP Congressman

Rep. Christopher Lee, R-N.Y.-26

Rep. Christopher Lee, a married Republican congressman from New York, abruptly resigned Wednesday evening after he was confronted about personal ads posted to the online classifieds site Craigslist.

According to Gawker, the now ex-congressman used Craiglist’s “Women Seeking Men” forum to advertise himself as a divorced “lobbyist” and “fit fun classy guy.”

On Friday, Jan. 14, Lee reportedly sent images of himself to a supposedly single 34-year-old woman looking a “financially & emotionally secure” man. After exchanged flirtatious emails, Lee forwarded a topless photo of himself posing with flexing muscles.

When the woman searched online for Christopher Lee, she realized the congressman had lied about his age and occupation. She then forwarded her correspondence to Gawker.

One of Lee's emailed photos, via Gawker

On Tuesday, Gawker said they contacted Rep. Lee whose spokesman confirmed the email account used in the exchange was indeed the congressman’s:

So did the married Republican prowl Craiglist looking for hook ups? After first telling us that he couldn’t comment until we forwarded every single email in question, a request we refused—shouldn‘t Lee know if he’s corresponded with women on Craigslist?—Lee‘s spokesman eventually announced that the Congressman believed he’d been hacked, and provided an email he claims Lee sent to his staff about the security breach on January 21.

That could, theoretically, be true. But the evidence suggests otherwise. The emails were sent more than a week before the alleged hack. The shirtless photo—which, according to metadata contained in the picture, was taken in Washington, D.C.—-was taken with a Blackberry, the same mobile device that Lee uses, which means the hacker would have also had to access the photos on Lee’s phone. Finally, if someone had hacked into his account and was seeking to discredit the politician, why shoot in the dark with such relatively benign emails to a totally random middle-aged woman on Craigslist, who didn’t seem motivated one way or the other to us, beyond wanting to share a funny story? And funny it is.”The Congressman is happily married,” said Lee’s spokesman when pressed for answers to our questions. “The only time he or his wife posted something online was to sell old furniture when they changed the apartment they keep in DC.”

On Wednesday, Gawker caused a stir online, posting both the images and correspondence.

When Fox News asked the congressman to comment on the story, he said he was not willing to talk about the issue.  “I have to work this out with my wife,” he added.

By Wednesday evening, Lee had announced he was resigning from Congress.  A statement from Lee posted to his website read:

“It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness.

“The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately.”

This is not about being a democrat or republican. This is about trust and integrity. If an individual cannot be trusted in one matter as intimate as a bond between his or her spouse then how is he or she to be trusted in any matters? You are either a trustworthy person or you are not. How unfortunate that we see individuals from both sides particularly the trolls on the left today not laying blame where the blame should be but rather attempting to drag down an entire population of people.. By the way whiteteaparty. not only do I find your posts offensive with your little inuendos and vague bigoted nuances, your user name is just as offensive so why don’t you and tweetybird find another place to troll. By the way, Christ is my Savior and Protector and I do let Him lead as much as possible. Too bad for you that you find that “creepy” Maybe instead of casting dispersions on people you don’t even know, you should enlighten yourself by reading that Bible. I will pray for you.

It shows a very callous and, frankly, not very smart streak. If it were a Dem, the Republicans would be shouting about it into every TV camera because they are the party of “family values” and such.

Spot on Booger. I don’t think it is the party, as far as sexual sin is concerned. I do think that most Repubs are quicker to fess up and do the right thing. But, the temptation is there for all, and both sides imbibe. Now remember in Bill’s case, he took it much farther and even lied to a grand jury and every American wtih a television. And as you say, most of his party gave him a pass (after all, they said, who wouldn’t lie about something like that?). As anyone can see from the posts tonight, the Repubs and Conservatives don’t give him a break. That’s the right (pun intended) way to do it. It’s a shame, because he has a young child at home. I don’t think there is any proof of actual adultry, but ask Jimmy Carter about that one.

If you will check your history, O Holier than Thou Idiot, you will find that the Democrats are much more likely to engage in such discretions. They just CONDONE it and make little fuss over it. But when a (gasp!) REPUBLICAN does it, why it’s all over the mainstream liberal media!

      Can’t resist:

A woman from Los Angeles who was a tree hugger, a liberal Democrat, and an anti-hunter, purchased a piece of timberland near Colville, WA.

There was a large tree on one of the highest points in the tract. She wanted a good view of the natural splendor of her land so she started to climb the big tree. As she neared the top she encountered a spotted owl that attacked her. In her haste to escape, the woman slid down the tree to the ground and got many splinters in her crotch.

In considerable pain, she hurried to a local ER to see a doctor. She told him she was an environmentalist, a democrat, and an anti-hunter and how she came to get all the splinters. The doctor listened to her story with great patience and then told her to go wait in the examining room and he would see if he could help her.

She sat and waited three hours before the doctor reappeared. The angry woman demanded, “What took you so long?”

He smiled and then told her, “Well, I had to get permits from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Forest Service, and the Bureau of Land Management before I could remove old-growth timber from a “recreational area”, so close to waste treatment facility. I’m sorry, but due to Obama Care, they turned me down.”

Like this is news? He has joined a not at all exclusive list of married, God loving, family values, Tea Party Republicans who have cheated on their wives or engaged in homosexual behavior despite the fact that their antics are almost sure to become public at some point. Where to begin?

      -Mark Sanford (out hiking)
-John Ensign (with the wife of a friend, and an employee)
-Larry Craig (attempted liaison in bathroom with a cop)
-Vitter (high priced, short term girlfriends)
-Gingrich (not enough lovin’ at home)

Why is it news that a God loving Christian who wins votes based on his appeal for family values and is found to be a fraud actually news anymore? Blaze, move on to the next topic.

Thirty-some responses prior to mine,,,,all of which you all proclaim him to be a ‘Democrat in hiding, a liberal, a rhino, etc., etc., etc.’ Of those thirty-some responses, some of you are hypocrits, because approximately HALF of all marriages, at one point or another, have had/has a cheating spouse.

While what the congressman did was blatantly stupid, I believe it was a spontaneous thing. When it blew up his face, he quickly apologized and resigned. RESIGNED!! I give the man huge credits for his swift and respectful response. I worry about the other politicians who would have either lied about it or maintained it was not what it appears to be,,,,we already have too many of those present.

Yet, in the face of the man whose quickly ‘man-ed up’ and left politics, you still spit in his face, kick him, and call him names. It is you who should be apologizing.

Listen Tinkerbell, you‘d do well to remember that you can’t throw a kitten in Congress without hitting a Democrat that has cheated on their taxes, their wives, recently departed drug rehab, played “Tickle Me Elmo” with his male interns, bilked billions in tax dollars to companies where their spouses are executives, ran a gay male prostitute ring out of their homes, etc. The difference between you and I? You only see it when Republicans do it. Me, I say throw them out, regardless of party. Good news though. At least this douchebag had the common decency to resign…. You might as well take that Holier than Thou attitude right on down the road. When you say that crap you just look foolish.

Vet them as a conservative? At this point I’d settle for an old fashioned drug test, MVR and background check. We could rid ourselves of the majority of the corrupt freaks in Congress if we did that alone. And why not? I had to pass one to get my 60K a year job. Why does this not make sense. Congress is privy to national security issues. The guy who scrubs the Congressional toilets has to have the checks done, why not Congressional candidates? And I think they should have random drug tests too…

BECKWILL I agree, Representative Lee won’t be missed by the republican conservatives, since he was an ultra-liberal posing as a conservative and as a republican. Besides that, he’s evidently just a little weird. Since he posted on Craigslist as a single man, hopefully his wife will make that a reality and divorce the jerk. He’s apparently a little stupid as well. Being a republican representative in the Congress of the United States he didn’t take into consideration someone just might recognize him.

Most of the people who are true Christians do not even resemble the bible thumping scumbag politicians that claim to be Christians, holding their faith up high primarily when they are running for office. But whether you are an Atheist, Deist, Christian, Buddhist or etc., there is no shortage of scumbag politicians in Washington on both sides of the isle, though they are primarily RINO’s on the right.
