GOP Leader Endorses Mixed Seating for State of the Union

A House GOP leader has come out in support of a Democratic Senator‘s proposal that Democrats and Republicans not sit on separate sides of the aisle during the president’s upcoming State of the Union address. It would be the first time the party’s mixed during the speech.

Democratic Sen. Mark Udall of Colorado on Wednesday suggested ending the tradition of separating lawmakers into Republican and Democratic camps. He said that seating arrangement offers a negative symbol of division.

On Friday, House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) endorsed the idea, joking that he might even sit next to Democratic Majority Whip Steny Hoyer (MD).

“Steny Hoyer and I try to talk quite often and I would enjoy sitting next to him. I’d go sit by them [Democrats]. It’s an opportunity here and I think the American public would find it as a positive one,” he said.

The idea is starting to gain traction. Besides McCarthy, Sen. John McCain showed his support for the idea by re-tweeting Udall’s Twitter message about the proposal:

GOP Leader Endorses Mixed Seating for State of the Union

Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called the idea “interesting” during his daily press briefing yesterday.

“Maybe not having a physical aisle separate us would be a good thing as we talk about the state of our union,” he said when asked about the proposal.

Despite seating during the speech not being assigned, politicians have always sat on opposite sides. Whether or not politicians mix on January 25, the day of the speech, remains to be seen, as there is no official process for making such a decision.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

What an idiot. No doubt, this is a shallow attempt by Democrats to concoct an illusion that the Congress backs Obama’s radical agenda by scattering sycophantic applauders throughout the House of Representatives chamber. Needless to say, when Obama starts chastising Republicans for repealing his healthcare plan, it will look better if Republicans appear together in a solid block of opposition in the right wing than if they are mixed in with 244 Democrats cheering him on.

Send an email to your Republican congressman and tell him to vote no on this!!!

Why does Gibbs find it “interesting”? Doesn’t sound like he wants it to happen. I guess it’s more effective if they have them grouped together when they stand an applaude.

Not when they are in the minority. It looks worse for Obama when 289 people are sitting together on their hands than if they are scattered among 244 other people who are standing up and cheering.

Interesting gesture, but… what does it really mean or accomplish? Why are we humans so taken in by symbolism and circus-style manipulation? They‘ll sit together because none of them want to explain why they wouldn’t, now that the idea is being promoted in the media. It won’t really mean much to many of them. It’s a show. It shouldn’t impress any of us.

The choreographed display of unity would certainly reinforce the imagery and illusion of obama as the great unifier. Imagery has always been important to those like Hitler, Stalin, Castro.
I’ve heard it said that McCain will not only reach across the isle, but he‘ll put the other side’s uniform on, shake their pompoms and cheer for them. Udall is of the same ilk.
America has had obama‘s ’Transformation’ jambed down its throat, and it’s well underway. Now the call for a display of unity goes out and pathetic Udall & McCain can’t wait to join in, eager to ‘compromise’ the Constitution in the spirit of ‘cooperation. It sickens me.

The State of the Union is just a big political parade anymore. There’s really no point to it. One side cheers, the other jeers. It should unite, not divide.

Woodrow Wilson strikes again: George Washington gave the first State of the Union address on January 8, 1790 in New York City, then the provisional U.S. capital. In 1801, Thomas Jefferson discontinued the practice of delivering the address in person, regarding it as too monarchical (similar to the Speech from the Throne). Instead, the address was written and then sent to Congress to be read by a clerk until 1913 when Woodrow Wilson re-established the practice despite some initial controversy. (Wikipeida)

Macaulay Culkin pretty much sums up the State of the Union after he puts on the aftershave:

This is a BIG freaking joke!

The Dem idea was born out of covering how few there are of them now. Guess the representation wasn’t listening to Glenn when he said “watch the other hand,” because that’s exactly what this “unity” push is all about.

Very difficult to spot that only 40% of the chamber is Dem if they’re not all sitting on the left side of the dais.

DEMOCRATS DON’T WANT ANYONE TO SEE HOW SMALL THEIR SIDE IS SO THEY WANT TO MIX THINGS UP.

Stupic Ass Hole GOP will go along with this. The GOP may have a majoriety of votes in the House, but Democrats still run it. If they was one Democrat in the House, the GOP would still be a minoriety party. The only way to save our lives is to breakaway from this nation as we have the right to do.

Democrats hate any idea that they haven’t thought of.

When Republicans read the Constitution the Democrats said it was “meaningless symbolism”. Now Democratic Sen. Udall of Colorado suggested ending the tradition of separating lawmakers…He said “that seating arrangement offers a negative symbol of division.”

The very real ideas that separate us are diametrically opposed and mutually exclusive: Tyrannical centralized government versus individual freedom; human rights versus collective faceless government rights; Ruling Class versus Country Class.

      When they play

Here is my suggestion for what to play when Obama makes his grand entrance :

When will they ever realize that the Left has no intention of coming together or getting along. The Left doesn‘t want to be left segregated and standing all alone for Urkel’s liberal progressive agenda. THEY ARE TRYING TO BLEND IN…Word Up Repubs….they will never blend in. And you need to stop trying to do the same. We need to separate the hallowed chamber with signs. One side says…“BALLS”…the other…“NO BALLS”. Problem is there would be more women on the BALLS side than men in our current Administration. I am damn sick of all the politics. Self-Reliance. No Compromise.

All we are likely to hear from now on is “can’t we just get along”. The Repubs will bite again, go along with the Dems, and we get screwed.

There is a reason for separation. Light from Darkness, Day from Night, and Good from Evil. It is not wrong to be discriminating ( I do not like onions), nor is it wrong to want separation ( I like living in the country), but when birds of a feather sit with other birds, it breeds confusion.

GOP pull your head out! This is not an act of good will and if you can’t see that then maybe you are not smart enough to be there for the 2013 state of the union. Who can’t see that this is designed to make it look like Obama is getting greater support than he is. When the Dems mixed in with GOP stand up the visual will not be the same as seeing 3/4 of the Reps sitting down as a group. Tell the Dems if they want to show us they want to work together on our behalf they have the chance next week on the O-care repeal. Ever since the election Dem’s have been spinning the story that we voted for compromise and bi-partisonship, this is just an attempt to further that lie. Again if you don’t get that we voted for seperation from the Dems and their Progressive policies then you might as well get use to sitting with them as come 2012 you will be sitting in the same unemployment line.

Come on, think. Liberals understand that most Americans form their opinions based on what’s popular at the moment and that their opinions can be changed 180 degrees if they think the majority of people disagree with them. If 60 million uninformed viewers watch the ABC, CBS or NBC evening news the day after the State of the Union and see, what appears to be, people all over Congress cheering as Obama chastises Republicans for repealing Obamacare, their opinion of Obamacare will become more favorable.

I’ll bet 30% of Americans don’t even know Republicans won a majority in the House last November. Liberals understand how uninformed people are, how easily they are manipulated and how a picture is worth a thousand words. This little stunt of theirs to mix up the seating will bump up Obama’s approval ratings after the State of the Union and they know it. If Republicans in Congress are stupid enough to go along with this, they are allowing themselves to be pawns in the manipulative games of Liberals and they don’t deserve to hang on to the majority in the House.
