GOP Leaders Engaged With Obama: McConnell and Boehner Confident On A Deal In The Near Future

Republican leaders in Congress say they are confident that an impasse will end soon over raising the government’s debt ceiling and heading off default.
“We are now fully engaged, the Speaker and I, with the one person in America out of 307 million people who can sign a bill into law.”
House Speaker John Boehner and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell made the prediction after the Republican-led House rejected Senate Democrats’ rival plan. McConnell said he had spoken in the previous hour with President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden. Boehner and McConnell said the president still needs to indicate what kind of package he will sign. He said discussions on that were taking place.
In the meantime, Obama called Democratic leaders Harry Reid from the Senate and Nancy Pelosi from the House to the White House to meet with him Saturday afternoon.
The Associated Press contributed to this article.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 9:27pmSNOWLEOPARD, your post is so awesome! You say that Democrats should be led off in handcuffs for treason! They’ve violated the Constitution!
How fun! Let me try. Let’s see. Tea Party members are willing to throw the entire country under the bus unless we pass legistlation that cuts funding to the elderly who have paid into Social Security their entire lives! You know, those people who are least able create income. And let’s eliminate all programs that help “the poorest among us!” Cool! As a pastor you know that Christ said that government should support the rich, and only churches can support the poor.
And let’s not eliminate tax breaks for corporate jets, and let’s continue to give tax breaks to and subsidize the richest and most profititable companies in the world at the expense of the middle class and poor!
And let’s all consign Republican leaders to heck and lead them off in chains too, becuase the have violated every single part of the Constitution time and time again!
Hey SNOWLEOPARD, that sure is fun. Makes me feel intelligent and informed to accuse people of violating the Constitution. And I don’t even have to defend any statement I make.
SNOWLEOPARD, you’re such an awesome believer. I wish I were a member of your church!

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 9:35pmIt’s probably all fiction, but without debating the actual content and structure of any deal, you’d have to get some enjoyment out of this if it turns out that McConnell and Boehner work it out with Obama while cutting Reid and Pelosi out of the negotiations. I mean, if the Republicans announce they have an agreement with Obama, what can Harry and Nan even say at that point? It would almost be worth getting a crap deal just to have it go down this way.

I am not saying that raising taxes is the right way to go about it. I am saying that Boehner gave the Democrats some of what they wanted. He gave the an increased debt limit and more revenues. It might not have been 1/2 way; it might have been a 1/3 of the way. The Dems did not acknowledge his compromise. You would think he is stonewalling.
Apparently, the Democrats think that since the Chinese bought some T bills in June that everything is peachy. Instead of borrowing 42% of the money for the budget, are they going for 50%, 60%,or 80%.
Oh hell Democrats, just borrow 90% to 100% of what you are going top spend! Democrats are that stupid or that arrogant. It does not matter which!

They haven’t cut any current spending levels. The budget continues to overspend and borrow money to cover it.
Stop being stupid, please. There’s enough information out there. Read it. Take an hour to research and understand. This entire process is a lie.
Report Post »Doc_Slammin
Posted on July 30, 2011 at 11:33pm@Jaycen – You are correct. Unless there are immediate significant spending cuts the price of (quite literally) everything is going up. It is obvious that Democrats want to blame Republicans for not compromising on a debt ceiling plan to demagogue them later for the credit rating drop that is (by all signs) a foregone conclusion. Republicans have tried to sit at the negotiating table with several different plans of solvency, but Democrats want 1 thing, and 1 thing only, more tax revenue. They are not interested in cutting anything because it would reflect badly on the very core of their existence. They would have to admit that SS, Medicare/aid, and Welfare (in their current forms) are not sustainable and will drag the entire country into a worse depression in 2014 as 3 million Americans become eligible for Medicare/aid funding via Obamacare.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 5:34pmBoehner said he would consider cutting the military budget back in January 27, 2011. The NYT said the Republicans were split on that issue. what the NYT or other liberals did not say is that Boehner was negotiating in bad faith
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/27/us/politics/27pentagon.htm
Boehner agreed to 800 million in tax increases. Then Obama came at him for 400 million more.
I accuse the Democrats of negotiating in bad faith. I am telling you that the democrats and the leadership of their various factions will be the ruin of America.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 7:04pmI’m seeing it more as you do now. I despise the mindless taxing and spending of both parties. Reps are simply the slightly palsied right hand of the same left hanbed monster. However it occurred to me yesterday for the first time that the “best deal” if agreed to will not solve the problem before the election in 2012….and Obama will be out on his ear. If the reps take blame for the economy away fro the Obama or Hillary will win the battle in the press. JOB 1 has to be win the presidency and keep the house, gain seats in the senate and PASS an balanced budget amendment, and anything else that can change BACK to a constitutional republic.

Posted on July 30, 2011 at 5:28pmWe must spread the call for Obama to resign.
Obama’s lack of leadership is not only an embarrassment to the country in front of the world, but is rapidly becoming a national security issue. Any Commander-in-Chief who threatens his own military who have or are currently putting their lives on the line on battlefields around the world with having their paychecks withheld is totally irrational. He must step down now.
His despotic ravings have and are breeding fear, loathing and contempt are creating a massive irreparable divide in the country not unlike what existed just prior to the civil war. He is driving businesses and jobs from this country at an alarming and increasing rate which may soon make our current economic conditions “the good old days”.
