GOP Looking for Special Election Upset in Venice Beach

If you thought Scott Brown taking the late Ted Kennedy’s senate seat in Massachusetts was the biggest political upset you would ever see, you could be wrong, as a Republican is making strong strides to represent Venice Beach.
Democrats often roll up landslide victories for their candidates in coastal California, especially in the 36th Congressional District, which runs from the famous Venice boardwalk through the beaches south of Los Angeles International Airport.
In a season of turbulent politics, a little-noticed runoff election Tuesday for the House seat vacated by former Democratic Rep. Jane Harman has become unusually competitive.
Supporters for the Democratic candidate, Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn, are jittery, while Republicans see a potential upset in the making for businessman Craig Huey, who owns marketing and advertising companies and has largely bankrolled his campaign with at least $795,000 in personal funds.
Huey even making it to the ballot is a victory in itself, considering the state’s new “jungle” primary rules where all candidates are placed on a single ballot. On his way to Tuesday’s special election, the Republican Huey had to beat Democrat California Secretary of State Debra Bowen in May’s primary.
Constituents of the district have responded to Huey’s calls to cut federal spending, repeal excessive business regulation and lower taxes. Some have speculated that the real chance of victory in L.A. could signal things to come in 2012. The Sacramento Bee:
“Despite a commanding 18-point registration edge for Democrats in the district, tallies of mail-in ballots suggest a potentially tight finish. Hahn remains the favorite, but the likelihood of a paltry turnout in a mid-summer special election means a small number of votes could swing the result.
In a state with double-digit unemployment, a housing crisis and government budget problems ‘voters are cranky and don’t feel good about what’s going on,’ said veteran Democratic consultant Bill Carrick.
‘The potential for surprises in elections – not just in this election, but in the next year or so – are pretty high,”‘Carrick added.”
Left-leaning groups like Organizing for America is appealing to supporters to make thousands of phone calls, while the conservative California Republican Assembly wrote to supporters in an email Friday,”this is the West Coast‘s ’Scott Brown moment.’” Craig Huey interviewed by Neil Cavuto in June:

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 8:30pmThe trouble is, the lazy getting “free money” to sit at home. Hopefully that money is running out and they will wake up to the real problem….. The Left and Democrats that want to destroy this great country from the inside out. Taking out jobs from America and passing laws that continue to destroy this country. $10.00 light bulb vs. $1.29 for a 4 pack. What company got that law passed? Who is collecting that paycheck? Obama cutting out all oil drilling in America. So we have to pay for it from overseas when we have BILLIONS of barrels of oil in the ground. Obama wanting to get rid of coal the #1 fuel in America so all electric prices will skyrocket. Wake up people!!! When are you going to pay attention to the corruption in Washington when you are in a death camp like the Jews were under the Germans in WWII? If you pay attention to what happened in WWII and what the Germans did to its citizens and the Jews and then you look at Washington today what they want to do to and what they are doing to America. The parallels are frighting.

Posted on July 11, 2011 at 1:19am@ Sarcasticus:
Pete Stark can be EXPELLED – file a Formal Complaint – (can be anonymous) – because he does not live in the congressional district that he claims in California. He lives in Maryland.
Check out the address that he claims in California – take a photo of it – and give it to Brietbart.
Pete Stark was exposed in Maryland – on a tax-exemption – for his primary residence = Maryland.
His primary residence is SUPPOSED to be California – in order to be a candidate in an election in California – and to maintain the US House seat from California for that congressional district.
Nancy Pelosi and Senator Diane Feinstein have been behind this SCAM…….to cover-up the fact that Pete Stark’s primary residence is not in his congressional district in California.

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 7:15pmWell I want to remain upbeat and bellieve that this is a good sign. I know so many of us are disappointed in the Republicans and the Tea Party people we help put into office. WE have to remember we did not get into this trouble overnight and we won’t be able to come out of it with one election in 2010. I like to believe they are doing what they can. They are new and are fighting some of the Repubs also. We just have to keep going and get Obama out is the most important thing and get more of our people in there again in 2012.
I certainly didn’t expect it to be straightened out by now. Just pray they are going to do the RIGHT thing about the Debt limit. We are going to have to be a little patient and forgiving of some of these things until
we can get OUR President in there so we can really make a change.
Please don’t get disheartened, we have to remain strong do all we can and Pray that God will gude us all and show us and the elected officials the right way to save Our Wonderful Country… God Bless the USA.

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 7:09pmAs soon as I walk off the plane in California I have this immediate urge to urinate. The libs, the DNC and their state government blood suckers (a.k.a. employees) have made it a cesspool of waste and corruption.
My generation from the 60‘s did this to the state and now their kids think it’s okay to keep on doing what they grew up under as long as they keep getting theirs.
I hope their taxes keep going up and up until they choke on it. That’s the only that that will bring sanity to the state via the ballot box. At the same time get the Mexicans back on their side of the border. Right now the whole state is essentially tacoland and you are paying for it.

Posted on July 10, 2011 at 6:30pmWell, this fits in nicely with what I just saw earlier on TV about a book written by Ben Shapiro – who is a 27 yr. old Harvard Jewish guy who is VERY Conservative (that was very encouraging in itself) and has been writing books to expose and encourage Consvs. in L.A. to “come out” (they are few but there) — and start getting active & start making competitive TV shows, etc. The book is “Primetime Propaganda”. If that happens, then that will promote more Conservativism – and then I see this article. Hmmm…..maybe so, maybe so.
