GOP Rep Calls for Pentagon Probe Over Cooperation With Hollywood Movie About bin Laden Raid

A movie about Navy SEAL Team 6′s hunt for—and killing of—Osama bin Laden is well underway, and the creative team behind The Hurt Locker (which took 2009′s Best Picture Oscar and five other golden statues) is heading up production on the yet-untitled flick.
It’s the buzz of Hollywood.
But the buzz in Washington appears to be an “alleged collaboration,” as Homeland chief Peter King put it, between the filmmakers and the Pentagon, White House, and CIA—and it’s generating some odd plot twists.
Twist #1: The Pentagon confirmed it‘s giving mission information to the film’s screenwriter Mark Boal and director Kathryn Bigelow. Except why, wondered New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, would “an administration that has tried to throw more people in jail for leaking classified information than the Bush administration” now be so accommodating?
Dowd’s questions last Sunday prompted Rep. King (R-NY) to ask for an investigation. In a letter yesterday to the Department of Defense, King expresses “concern regarding ongoing leaks of classified information regarding sensitive military operations.”
“The Administration’s first duty in declassifying material is to provide full reporting to Congress and the American people, in an effort to build public trust through transparency of government. In contrast, this alleged collaboration belies a desire of transparency in favor of a cinematographic view of history.”
Today, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney deflected King’s concerns:
“We do not discuss classified information. I would hope that as we face a continued threat from terrorism, the House Committee on Homeland Security would have more important topics to discuss.”
Twist #2: Why is the Pentagon helping Bigelow and Boal when, Fox reported, a Department of Defense-sanctioned Army adviser pulled out at the last minute from work on The Hurt Locker after learning of several scenes the DOD hadn’t authorized? (Could be important to note that President Bush, not Obama, was in office when The Hurt Locker was being made.)
Twist #3: The new movie’s planned release date is October 12, 2012.
Just a few short weeks prior to the presidential election.
You might say the release date is a boon for Obama, given the movie is about what history may record as his most successful, universally lauded action as Commander-in-Chief.
Dowd also discussed this detail in her column:
The White House is also counting on the Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal big-screen version of the killing of Bin Laden to counter Obama’s growing reputation as ineffectual.Kathryn Bigelow (director) and Mark Boal (screenwriter) are teaming up once again for another military epic, this time about the killing of Osama bin Laden.
The Sony film by the Oscar-winning pair who made “The Hurt Locker” will no doubt reflect the president’s cool, gutsy decision against shaky odds. Just as Obamaland was hoping, the movie is scheduled to open on Oct. 12, 2012 — perfectly timed to give a home-stretch boost to a campaign that has grown tougher.
The word from Hollywood is that this film‘s release date merely represents the filmmakers’ hopes to mimic the success of The Social Network, which won three Oscars this year and was released in October 2010. Incidentally, The King’s Speech—released in December 2010—won four Oscars this year, including Best Picture. (But who’s counting?)

This is NOT the sort of thing any political party should use as propaganda just prior to an election. If Hollywood were to make an honest account leaving out any and all political BS, then I might say… maybe. But we all know Hollywood can’t do the honorable thing so we may have to raise a lot of H*ll anyway.

Did not believe I could be anymore sickened by Obama and Hollywood but again I was wrong. I believe that the Obama Administration should never have even spoken the words “Seal Team 6” because that told the enemy who they needed to be looking for and now so many members of that group died. Also I don’t know if alot of people know this but Special Ops,Colonels,Generals all have to worry about their lives out in the war but also back at home because there are terrorists that would love to kidnap and hold an officer for ransom or for some sort of list of demands. Also these soldier’s families are high risk targets as well. Terrorists know if you can’t get the soldier that the next best thing is to take a wife or child. I grew up military and we had standard protcol that my mom and dad taught us growing up. We had to answer the phone a certain way and a few other things. These were safety measures to protect us. I pray that Rep King can put the k-bosh on this movie!!! One other thing guys. I am reading the posts and everyone is misreading the story. They are not trying to make a movie of Seal team 6 copter crash. They are doing a movie on the seal team 6 guys that went into BIN LADEN’S COMPOUND!!! Just thought i would clarify. :)

But, as usual, those in Hollywood want to dramatize something to help the politician of their choice get re-elected. News flash…Obama did nothing more than authorize the operation. As he likes to say, he had no “skin in the game”. Special operators do there jobs covertly, and while I can’t speak for them, I‘d be willing to guess that they don’t want their tactics or operational secrets displayed on 3500 movie screens, dvd’s and Netflix downloads all over the world for future, or current bad guys to see!

Because where’s the only place that could feasibly house Bin Laden while he awaited trial? Gitmo. And what has Obama ordered closed but is yet to close? Gitmo. Obama preserved rendition on a long weekend while the NYT was asleep. But Obama would have had to be moved to a permanent facility eventually and held for trial. Gitmo. So to avoid putting OBL in Gitmo and embarrassing himself..Obama ordered him killed outright. The decision to kill over capture was a political one. He actually was responsible for talking the potential mission to death with advisors, sleeping on the final decision over night (so he could get the Misses’ approval), and then agreeing to what anybody would agree to. What a man.
I wonder if the movie will cover how he and his administration immediately ran to the microphones like little girly men to spill the beans with total disregard for the safety of our troops, the possible intelligence windfall if we kept it quiet for awhile, and all the time, effort and money spent pursuing OBL. They should have kept it quiet for a good 30 days or more. Gutsy? Or stupid.
And I’m disgusted with the total comfort with which these guys will campaign on the backs of our service members while normally having little use for our military.

He never gave any kind of go-ahead for the mission at all; Panetta was the one who finally decided to quit waiting for the idiot-in-chief to do something and gave the go-ahead. We’d been watching that compound for… three years I think, and had known Osama was there for months.

Yep nothing.. but some yahoo’s in Holywood, will play it up like he is some wonderful ingenious demagod.. when in reality he is nothing more than a buffoon! I don’t like the fact that they are taking classified information and giving it to Hollywood to make a movie.. my suggestion is to boycott the movie so they will make little money.. I don’t want to watch some concoted made up story making Obama a hero, when we all know he is nothing more than a Chicago thug!

Looked like Obama was sitting on a folding chair in the back, slightly removed from the everyone else and looking confused. He came in 20 minutes late (had to finish that golf game), got his hand smacked by Hillary & didn’t get to sit at the grown-up’s table.
Thank goodness we have him as Commander in Chief. (heavy, heavy sarcasm)

There’s been a book published and rumors of a movies since 2008. I guess because it doesn‘t glorify the Anointed One there’s no hurry to give the public a pro military flick about courage, honor and bravery. Shame on Hollywood again.
