GOP Rep. Webster: If We Cut Aid to Israel We ‘Lose God’s Hand’

There are many conservatives who advocate for cutting all foreign aid as a means to trim the deficit. But what some might not realize is that doing so would also end another popular conservative staple — aiding Israel, as it is one of the  top benefactors of U.S. foreign aid.

That’s the point GOP Rep. Dan Webster (who beat out Alan Grayson in Florida last fall) was trying to make last weekend when he appeared on the local TV program “Good Life 45.” But Webster went a step further. He said that discontinuing help to Israel would mean “we lose God’s hand and we’re in big time trouble:”

Here’s the transcript:

WEBSTER: I believe God’s hand needs to be on this country.

HOST: That’s right.

WEBSTER: Some people have been talking about, every place I go, they bring up the issue foreign aid. I go, you can’t get rid of all foreign aid. Why? Because you ask them and they go, ‘yea we can’t do that.’ You take away the money from Israel? No. That’s something we can’t do. Do I like foreign aid? Sometimes, but not every time. Don’t like giving money to our enemies, but I love giving money to Israel. And so there’s a picture there that people realize that, we stop helping Israel, we lose God’s hand and we’re in big time trouble.

HOST: That’s right.

Webster’s comments, which have riled up the left, make sense when you realize he served for years as a pastor. For him, then, supporting Israel is not just a conservative position, but it is a religious one. But one doesn’t need to be religious to defend continued aid to Israel. For example, there are those who see Israel as a key ally in the Middle East, and it’s existence guarantees a stable partner in a very unstable area.

    We must always support Israel………they are the only nation in the east that is free to all of mankind, they are the protector’s of all religions, they are the people who founded the bible and have suffered the most of any one group of people on earth….we can never allow this to happen again, its our duty as human beings to protect the good in this world.

    Uh…let’s see… We pay the Saudi’s for using their country as an airbase, we pay Bahrain (sp?) for using thier country as a Navy port, we pay Egypt for nothing (supporting the Radical Islamic Muslim Brotherhood)..and on and on it goes…. But they want to cut RENT (read “foreign aid”) to Israel?

    Don’t get me wrong…I am a born again believer in Jesus as the Messiah, and I believe what God says, whoever blesses Israel, is blessed and whoever curses Israel is cursed and don’t need any more reason than that to bless their socks off… But even without the spiritual implications, there are MASSIVE political, economic reasons for supporting Israel… THEY ARE THE ONLY STABLE DEMOCRACY IN THE ENTIRE REGION!!! C’MON people!!!! LOSE ISRAEL, LOSE THE REGION.

    I have to disagree with most of you. We’re just about broke and can no longer afford to support the world and be world cops. The bible doesn’t say God will slap us down for not supporting Israel but will crush Israels enemies. Please seperate the two. We’re not their enemies but we also can keep sending them billions, we’re broke.

    If any of you have a dollar left,take a look on the back right side at the 6 pointed star of David and the Glory of God surrounding it over the American Eagle. George Washington had that put there as thanks to the Jewish people living in country for funding the Revolutionary War. God of the bible put it in their hearts to loan Washington money so we could win the war and become the #1 supper power. Then that made it possible for Israel to become a nation in one day(Isaiah chap.66 v.8) with the help of her big brother (US). Talk about putting your ducks in order,God did this.

    I stand with Israel regardless of the religious implications as I would help my fellow Americans who have had their lives turned upside-down by the damage caused by flooding/tornadoes. Please tell me that you would not refuse me the same, simply because I am not a part of a Judeo, Christian, or Muslim faith.

    For decades, the United States has aided Israel. But, over time, Israel has built her own industries, and been a major supplier of food in the Middle East–an area under threat of imminent starvation. While it‘s trendy among the Left to ’support’ Palestinians, a lot of those so-called ‘victims’ wouldn‘t have jobs if they weren’t working in Israel.

    Israel just discovered three undersea natural gas fields in the Mediterranean. The amount of gas is estimated at 22 trillion cubic feet–enough to make Israel (an dem dammed Goos) energy-independent and wealthy enough to export. More…Where you find gas (not the flatulence liberals fluff from their foul mouths), you often find oil, too.

    I’m not going to get all religious here, unless I’m speaking to another Christian. But, in the physical world, Israel is about to become wealthy beyond measure.

    No one and no nation who curse Israel will get away with it. They will have to pay the consequences. Obama knows what he is doing, therefore, he will have to pay the consequences probably 500 to 1,000 times more or even more. Only God knows the content of his heart. I know I do not want to be in his shoes when he stands before God on Judgment Day.

    Is God the God of all people in the world, or is he regional? Does God love Arabs as much as he loves Americans and Israelis in your worldview? If God is God, and not just a regional god, why do you not sympathize with and love Arabs as much as you seem to love Jews, as God surely does?

      GOD loves everybody, and does not wish that any should perish; but Israel is his chosen people period. Not the Church, as the Church seems to think. It is not wrong to love and support Israel. Israel has never said that they want to kill the Arabs and drive them into the sea, like the Palestinians and Arabs have said about Israel. GOD’s Holy Word says that in the last days, the whole world would turn against Israel. That is what is happening right now. The only friends Israel has now are the Christians. Why do you begrudge them that:? Would you be happy if they had no one?

      It is like an unwritten Universal (meaning the Universe) Law. That to end support to Israel we will suffer consequences from the Lord himself. obama has just pulled support away from Israel and has given support to the Muslims. Huh I wonder why he would support the Muslims? Giving them land they do not rightfully own? I say waiting until 2012 is too long to have him in control of the United States. He is doing too much damage! Why instead of talking about him aren’t we doing something about him?

      He has just cursed our Nation! By pulling support from Israel and giving their rightful land to the Muslims. Muslims are the religion furthest away from Christians you can possibly get. His religion states in effect that you must destroy America! Why are we letting him Destroy Us from the Inside?

      The Lord did not take his statement lightly I am sure. How much more terror are we going to take from this unrighteous leader, who does not have our best interest at hand?

      TexasCommonSense, I think you misunderstand the reason for the hyphen.
      TheAmericanRifleMan is correct.
      It is a sign of reverence and respect. We do not write or say His name casually.

      I am Jewish – Jews believe that is it forbidden to erase G-d’s name. Therefore it should never be written in a place that can be discarded, defecated, or destroyed. To clarify, Judaism is not against writing His name – only erasing. But most avoid writing His name due to the risk that it can be destroyed.

      This is similar as how the Hebrew name for God, “YHWH” (aka Tetragrammaton – 4 letters: Yud (י), Hay (ה) , Vav (ו), and Hay(ה)) is NEVER pronounced out loud in Judaism. When it appears in Jewish scripture, we substitute the word “Adonai” which means “my lord.” Outside of prayer service “Adonai” is substituted for “Hashem”, meaning “the name”, as “Adonai” is so closely linked to the name of G-d.

      Deuteronomy 12:2-4: You shall utterly destroy from all the places where the nations, that you shall possess, worshipped their gods, upon the lofty mountains and upon the hills, and under every lush tree.       Our administration doesn‘t have to FULLY repeal it’s support for Israel…..the Palestinians already see an opportunity to go on the offensive……they just publicly praised Russia for their support in forwarding the UN draft resolution that would isolate Israel unless Israel gives in to Palestinian demands…..Hezbollah has re-armed, and Syria desperately needs a “distraction” in order to bring their own population back under government control……get ready…..our beloved Supreme Palestinian-In-Chief is going to pull the rug right out from under Israel very soon…….then there will be no need for talk of the “1967 borders” because there won’t even be any “pre-1948 borders” for Israel….

      Christ died for ALL to be accepted into his tree of Judah, thru Christ. Anyone not accepting Christ, is not of the tree of Judah. It’s that simple. 

      God’s people of Earth are those who accept Christ..Just as Moses believed in the coming Messiah, they were the root and base of tree. The Jews who saw Christ die for them and reject him from then forward are broken off the tree as Romans says. Jesus is the way to God. 

      Collectivism is taught in Judaism, not Christianity. Christ gives individual salvation. 

      You do not stand with Muslims, why? Not the same God. Jews do not accept your God Christ, therefore, not the same God..

      If you want to aid them for democracy, ok but you will need to be consistent and aid all “democracies”..Being we have a republic it seems silly..

      We must borrow from our children’s future in order to continue to provide Israel with their Billions even though they are a debt free Nation so that they can funnel a portion of the money back into the US politcal system through their PACs in order to continue to reward their cronies in the US Congress and Senate so that Israel continues getting more and more of our money which we have to borrow from the future? And of course if we don’t give them our latest technology they quickly steal it.

      Besides if Israel fails then America’s certainly not far behind because they are the foundation of Western Civilization. Remember they are little satan and we are BIG SATAN.       To say God will disown us as a whole for not aiding Israel is false, a lie, and comes from the Jews who still believe the Messiah is yet to come. 

      Since Jesus Christ is the Messiah, died for all our sins and arose waiting to reap the good fruits, Jesus holds a personal relationship with each individual choosing to accept him and keep his commandments. 

      Using God as a political tool is deceitful and not of God. 

      If we can’t take care of our own house we must stop all aid until our house is in order..

      cut the aid… cut all foreign aid…. we will still be on Israels side, we will still be their ally and trade partner.. foreign aid is just a waist of money that often does more harm than good, just like every other socialist welfare scheme…

      We need to cut all aid to all countries as well cut aid to the IMF and the UN. We need to nip this world governance crap in the bud early.

      As much as I concur with the sentiment, I certainly do not believe the push for world governance is any longer in the bud.. lol I believe if you’d asked any leader of the Nationalist movement in Germany in the 30s or 40s they would have told you they were trying to nip World Governance in the bud..

      But today we are on the very verge of a totalitarian World Gov’t.. It’ appears that the push will not be stopped. Not that it‘s of any importance but I’ve known this for the past 20 years.. but it was only recently that I learned who was pushing it so hard. Of course one can’t deny that this is foretold in the Scriptures.

      I have read many comments here, spanning all spectrums of opinion.
      Paraphrasing:

      The reason they are rich and debt free is most of our aid to them is NOT in dollars, but in military hardware.They are basically (in this context) another branch of our military, holding back the islamic horde they face every day. We trust their sovereignty, and have since the biginning of Israel because they have always been resonsible. Do any of you remember in the first gulf war when Iraq sent 2 scud missles into Israel? I watched live and could have sworn to you at that time (was 19) that that was the beginning of WWIII. It wasn’t. They didn’t even retalliate. Why? because we told them, and they trusted, that we had their back. And we did. Now “we” don’t (meaning our…um…*cough “president”) I pray that if we stop giving them aid they will be able to hold out until 2012…..

      I believe this only in a circular, VERY involved way which I may not have the space to explain. America is said to have been created from “Divine Providence”, and I believe that. I fear America chose its demise back when we allowed our Courts to kick God, The Bible, and Prayer out of school( in 1962) .To borrow form the so called Americans United undated pamphlet. Once our educators began to teach the foreign ethic and religion springing from it of Secular humanism .Generations of Americans have been militated against our Founding religion and
