GOP Senator: Tea Party Challenges ‘Killed Off’ Chances for Republican Majority in Senate

CNN
Sen. Dick Lugar said challenges by Tea Party candidates are partly to blame for the Republicans not having a majority in the Senate.
Lugar, a six-term Republican senator from Indiana, is up for re-election in 2012 and facing a primary challenge from a Tea Party-backed Republican opponent.
Lugar told CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that he’s the best chance for the GOP to hold on to his Senate seat, and that similar challenges by Tea Party candidates are part of the reason Republicans are in the minority in the Senate.
“Republicans lost the seats before in Nevada and New Jersey for example and Colorado where there were people who claimed that they wanted somebody who was more of their Tea Party aspect, but in doing so they killed off the Republican chances for majority,” he said. “This is one of the reasons why we have a minority in the Senate right now.”
Lugar — who has been critical of the Tea Party in the past — implied that if Tea Party supporters want to see Republican seat gains in 2012, they’ll support the candidates who have the best chance of winning, and that means the existing Senate Republicans.
“A Republican majority in the Senate is very important and Republicans who are running for re-election ought to be supported by people who want to see that majority,” he said. “I think the majority of Tea Party people understand that, too.”

We are of a mind to vote Constitutionalists in…so if they do not abide by the Constitution..they can plan on an early retirement or impeachment without benefits..and hopefully we can get policies changed to..no more special health insurance for Senate and Congress..they should have to live by the standards set by themselves for us..and no more voting themselves raises and no more retiring after one term with the same salary for a lifetime..Ron Paul has stated that he would be willing to accept a salary of $39,336. I believe a year which is roughly the average salary of the American citizen and he has always placed money back in the coffer..We need people in the Senate and Congress with the morals and heart for the people like his..We need to stop them from making clowns of us all .

Thanks Senator…TeaParty is a double edged sword, it slices it dices it eviscerates Dems AND RHINOs (such as yourself) as was evident in Nov 2010. Typically the coward remains silent under the bar during a brawl for their own safety; as does the cockroach avoid the light to be squashed under our boot. We appreciate you not making us hunt you down while hidden, placing a spotlight on your own miserable seat in the Senate for us was a nice Christmas gift. We The People can now support your campaign opponent. Wisdom is in short supply in DC, thanks for reinforcing this for us, kudos! No Newt / No Mitt / Nobama 2012 friends :)

Adios, Lugar!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lugar is correct that Tea Party primary triumphs figured in defeats in Nevada, New Jersey, and Colorado–but the blame was not with the Tea Party but with the national GOP establishment that refused to lend its support to the Republican nominees and counter the media lies and distortions (even going as far as to steal back an election for one of their own in Alaska).
Sorry Quagaar Warrior, but to elect its own GOP candidates in November, the Tea Party has to weed out all the RINOs holding the pursestrings and levers of power in the Republican Party itself.
So why would he cling so closely to the Progressives in word and deed? Because he has fallen under the charismatic influence of “The Great Leader.” Either that or the Obumar FBI goons have discovered some dark secret about him that would ruin his career and he’s being blackmailed. Or maybe it’s simpler than that. He’s being paid off by George Soros. He is bought and paid for by the leftists who support despotism, anarchy, communism and socialism and fascism and will do anything to achieve the goal of enslaving Americans, and, indeed, the rest of the world.
Our 2010 sweep was a MAJOR change! We need much more change in order to restore America.
However, there is a REASON the left uses “nudges…“ They know that America will accept ”nudges“ and that the opposing side will paint every significant change as ”radical.”
We will not be able to restore America overnight.
That being said, the time for “wishing” is over, and it is time for action!
Posted on December 25, 2011 at 2:44pmSenator Lugar, scratch that and reverse it. It is the GOP’s fault that we have a minority in the Senate, and it is mostly in thanks to the Tea Party that we at least managed a majority in the House. We need to stand up to these career politicians and let them know, we don’t give a care about the R or the D in front of their name. All that matters is if they are good for the country.
Report Post »Why, so our small majority will have a harder time passing laws. They used the rule on the Republicans it should be used on them. Anyway, they would just change it back when they get the majority again.
Posted on December 25, 2011 at 2:41pmDick Lugar is what is wrong with the GOP. A great path to reforming the “establishment GOP” is to get rid of one RINO at a time starting with Dick.
Posted on December 25, 2011 at 2:39pmIf the Republican Party is saved, it will be because of the Tea Party. If they can’t save the GOP, it will be time for it to pass on and make way for a truly conservative party, as the Whigs passed on to be replaced by the Republicans.
Posted on December 25, 2011 at 5:31pmI agree Robert999. The professional politicians have got go. Term limits and true patriots are the people to serve the nation, not run it. This country is slipping away from it’s founding quickly, we must press on.
Posted on December 25, 2011 at 9:25pmPeople need to remember that the TEA Party is what has kept the Republicans out of the ash bin of history. Without true conservatives, the entire party would have gone the way of the dodo bird following the 2008 elections, just like everyone was predicting.
Posted on December 25, 2011 at 2:38pmI agree with you 100%. Screw Lugar and the rest of the GOP establishment. In 2010 we tried playing it their way. We won’t be fooled again! Everybody says the Tea Party can’t become their own party. I strongly disagree. Working “within the system” has gotten us nowhere. We have a Speaker of the House with no ba@@s and no spine! People need to begin to realize there is simply no difference in the Republicans and the Democrats. We need a third party if we want to save this country.
